Drasven Hammers |

Drasven is ready to heal as needed.
The comic relief if needed.
The grumbler as always needed.

GM Polyfrequencies |

I for one love the party's dynamic! I also definitely appreciate the occasional OoC check-in to make sure that we keep characters' actions and frustrations separate from players'. I imagine that, for this group to have stuck together for about 8 years, you've had plenty of those conversations! I'll do my part to ensure that inter-character conflict doesn't spill out into inter-player conflict, but I'm always here to mediate if needed!

Karmid Groundbreaker |

Just a reminder: Loot sheet finalization is coming up. Make sure you have claimed/wrangled/argued your choice of loot items before we sell everything.

Lia Tani |

Under the weather is...a harmless-sounding way of putting it.
Halfway through the week, I was ready to get isekai'd.
That said, yeah, I did start feeling a bit better again, and will hopefully be able to jump back in shortly. Thanks for the patience.

Rojava Brishen |

I took some time to consider magic shopping options, then got busy figuring out attunements and forgot to finish shopping.
Let's see what I can find this time around.
Boots of the Cat: 1d100 ⇒ 13
Cat Burglar's Boots: 1d100 ⇒ 10
Quick Runner's Shirt: 1d100 ⇒ 20
Ring of Feather Falling: 1d100 ⇒ 18
Ring of Swimming: 1d100 ⇒ 79
Ring of Stars and Stairs: 1d100 ⇒ 21
Wand of CLW: 1d100 ⇒ 75
Wand of Sure Casting: 1d100 ⇒ 48
Wand of Resistance: 1d100 ⇒ 8
Wand of Polypurpose Panacea: 1d100 ⇒ 34
Wow, again so many things I can't have.

GM Polyfrequencies |

So yes on the Ring of Swimming and the Wands of Cure Light Wounds, Sure Casting, and Polypurpose Panacea.
Karmid will manage to find a pair of Boots of the Cat when he goes out shopping, but that confirms that there's only one pair available and y'all might have to fight for it.
Ro also already looked for and found (or will) a Quick Runner's Shirt. But that tells me there's only one in the city and if she doesn't move quickly it might...run off.
I'll see myself out.
An updated list of what magic items are available this week in Magnimar can be found on the loot sheet.

Rojava Brishen |

Grrr...
Potion: Resist Energy 1d100 ⇒ 74
Potion: Monkey Fish 1d100 ⇒ 84
Potion: See Invisibility 1d100 ⇒ 32
Wand: Feather Step 1d100 ⇒ 75
Scroll: Liberating Command 1d100 ⇒ 69
Scroll: Saving Finale 1d100 ⇒ 13
Ring of Spell Knowledge 1 1d100 ⇒ 55

Rojava Brishen |

@Karmid: So far only you and I have claimed a potion of CMW. If nobody else takes the other 2, I think you should grab them both. I'm fine with a single one since I'm getting a wand of CLW as well. Ro also won't need to be in melee range so much anymore with the Blinkback Belt.
Should we split the Boots of the Cat and the Quick Runner's Shirt if you're wanting either of them? You choose the one you want and I'll take the other?

Karmid Groundbreaker |

Take what you want/can afford. I can make do.
Im out of town right now, but I should be able to respond in game tomorrow.

Drasven Hammers |

I have finally cleared all work related stuff and have time to read through and post!!!
Beers for everyone especially myself.

GM Polyfrequencies |

Also, y'all just let me know when you want to get to the next day. Afaik, there might be some shopping (which we can handwave or play out as you like) (and you don't technically know that you'll be getting another reward yet). It sounds like the party will be heading back to the shrine. And then you're scheduled for dinner with the lord-mayor.

GM Polyfrequencies |

Two things while we finish the current scene:
1) I want to grant everyone one of the ten campaign traits from the official Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition Player's Guide.
(They're also easily linked-to on Archives of Nethys.)
Ideally all five of you will have something different but try to make it fit into your backstory and how you have been playing the PC so far.
---
2) I want you to think about one virtue and one vice that your PC has exhibited the most so far in this campaign.
Virtues
Vices
I think I have a decent sense of each of the PCs so far, but I'd rather get your input than make assumptions.

Rojava Brishen |

The trait is easy in Ro's case:
Eager Performer:
Hearing that Sandpoint had a theater rivaling those found in large cities like Magnimar and Korvosa, you decided to try your luck getting stage time there. After sending a letter to Cyrdak Drokkus requesting an audition and not hearing back, you’ve taken it upon yourself to travel to Sandpoint and meet him in person, trusting your force of will and charming inf luence will get you what you want. You gain a +1 trait bonus on checks for any one Perform skill. Additionally, choose any one spell of the enchantment school; its save DC increases by +1.
I'm fairly sure Ro's vice would be: Lust
Virtues.... Chastity is out obviously. So is Humility and Temperance I think...
Does Ro actually have any real virtues? I'm open to suggestions if anything comes to mind for anyone.

Issengrim |

Interesting questions!... made somewhat more difficult by the fact I haven't been playing long. :)
For a campaign trait, based on elements of Izzy's backstory, I'd go with Giant Slayer. If someone else has dibs on that, Monster Hunter would be a decent second choice.
The Virtue/Vice question is harder...
Virtue: Diligence, maybe? I envision him being both cautious and relentless.
Vice: Ugh... very difficult choice. I could see Wrath and/or elements of Envy being key to his personality.

Lia Tani |

No strong feelings on the traits - there are few that could work for her, and most would not really provide much of a benefit, so I'm letting everybody else pick theirs first.
Regarding the Vice's: Sloth, possibly?
Maybe Pride in trying to fix things alone at some point, but I think that'd be a stretch.
The virtues are difficult.
Lia's been chaste, she's been kind, charitable, and I actually think humble.
No temperance, patience or diligence awards, but the others...
Same as Ro, I'm open to suggestions.
(I'm not saying I'll like them in case I'm suffering from cognitive dissonance but I'm open to them).
@Ro: You have been very diligent while you were our leader - you also showed patience towards us, and you've been nothing but kind to Lia. I think Ro definitely has virtues, but doesn't like to show them :)

Karmid Groundbreaker |

Off the top of my head?
Virtue: Humility?
Vice: Wrath?
Feel free to disagree.

Drasven Hammers |

One Virtue and One Vice?
This will be hard.
For Virtue,
Might just be Kindness.
For vice however.....
Perhaps it will be Either Sloth or Envy.

Lia Tani |

Yay for bandages, but did anybody have any actual healing left before we rest for the night? I mean mechanically, in unused curative magics.

Rojava Brishen |

I think what Drasven was saying without rolling dice in a prior post is that he would use whatever spells and channels needed to bring Lia back to full HP. But I can roll 4 more CLW castings if you like.

Lia Tani |

I think outside combat we get to use average on healing - I just was not sure how much more juice we had left since the shadowclock was earlier today. As in, I was wondering how much healing we could get done without dipping into next days resources.
If between Drasven and you you do have 3 CLW's left that'll be about 30 HP, plus a night of rest should fix Lia right up.

Rojava Brishen |

So here are my completely unsolicited opinions whether you want them or not. XD
I like Sloth for Lia. Her not getting much done or however one would characterize it seems like the kind of thing that would get handled today with time management coaching and maybe an Adderall prescription, but sure Sloth.
Lia has quite a few virtues but I'd say the standouts would be Chastity or Kindness. I think she's probably the most straightforwardly kind of all the PCs. Temperance also works well as a choice for Lia I think.
Izzy, you're new. <shrug>
Karmid pairs well with Wrath I think. He gets mad a lot, and seems more capable of violence when he does. I think Humility is a good virtue for Karmid too. He has some history of bragging, more an early on thing, but it was never really believable coming from him. So he might tell people about how he's awesome of whatever, but he doesn't really believe it himself, so not Pride.
Drasven, maybe Envy is a better match than Sloth? I'm thinking about Abadar and his crowd's ethic of 'time is money' and efficiency. Unless Drasven is a real oddball among his peers, Envy or Greed is a pretty decent match.
As for Ro, I've already selected Lust as her vice. There's an argument for Pride to be made for sure, but she's more a case of self-centered with a poor self-image. Like Karmid it might seem like pride, but it's really something else. They're both sort of bluffing rather than expressing truly held beliefs.
Working backwards from lack of vices, I think Greed is the vice she displays little of. It's corresponding virtue is Charity, and I think that works well enough. It's not so much the 'give to charity' narrow definition, but the broader one of of being generous with her stuff, and tolerant of differences or flaws in other people, she's not judgy. So yeah, Charity.
To make it official:
Trait: Eager Performer
Vice: Lust
Virtue: Charity

Rojava Brishen |

I was wondering how much healing we could get done without dipping into next days resources.
We're actually in the day after the clock tower now. At least that's when we went to see the mayor. If there's any doubt, I can only say that if anyone tried to get Ro to go straight to see the mayor, she'd give that a hard veto. Her agenda for the rest of the clocktower day was a bath and some booze the take the edge off. Then sleep.

Lia Tani |

Hum, no, afraid same day.
Karmid wanted an immediate audience with the Mayor right after we finished cleaning ground zero. Here.
We then split up, with Lia going to the Shrine of Sarenrae while you lot were at the Mayors office: here
In the next post, before the ambush, I was offered a recharge courtesy of Sarenrae "as if I had rested a night" here.
I thankfully declined that and redirected her boon.
But yeah, we're still same day, which is why I was wondering on available resources - that said, there's still time for a bath and some booze :D

GM Polyfrequencies |

Yes, Lia trying to clean up the shrine happened at the same time that the main group met with the lord-mayor, which was in the afternoon following the destruction of the Shadow Tower. But it still makes sense for Ro to have been there if you want. If not, then there's no need to worry about backdating changes. I assume that healing happened using up renewable resources because there's ample native healing in the party. We can just keep moving to the next day whenever the group is ready.
---
So for now, here's how things stand by votes and/or declarations:
Drasven: Virtue - Kindness (1); Vice - Envy (2), Greed (1), Sloth (1)
Issengrim: Virtue - Diligence (1); Vice - Envy (1), Wrath (1); Trait - Giant Slayer or Monster Hunter
Karmid: Virtue - Humility (2); Vice - Wrath (2)
Lia: Virtue - Chastity (2), Kindness (2), Temperance (1), Charity (1), Humility (1); Vice - Sloth (2), Pride (1)
Rojava: Virtue - Charity (1), Diligence (1), Kindness (1), Patience (1); Vice - Lust (1), Pride (1); Trait - Eager Performer

Rojava Brishen |

But it still makes sense for Ro to have been there if you want. If not, then there's no need to worry about backdating changes.
I was joking, no change to how things have gone needed. I'll just be more attentive in the future. Ro will not be rushed!

Something, something Se7en.

Karmid Groundbreaker |

Karmid went to you immediately and requested his assistance in clearing the gargoyle away. I was intending to hand wave the conversation so we could move on really, assuming you agreed.
As far as the campaign trait, I think I will go with Hagfish Hopeful, it just sounds like something Karmid would do.

Drasven Hammers |

Between channels and heals? Drasven has enough for average 50 hitpoints.
That also includes spontaneous casting of Cures.
Envy Will be Draven's Vice. Not being as close knitted as the rest of you having come in the middle of the game (Adventure) he's not as close bonded as the rest of you are though he's kind because of being a cleric but being a travelling cleric, he does envy those with close bonds and such.
Trait? I really haven't thought about what to give him.

Issengrim |

Karmid went to you immediately and requested his assistance in clearing the gargoyle away. I was intending to hand wave the conversation so we could move on really, assuming you agreed.
I didn't get that impression from your post. No worries.

Lia Tani |

@Drasven thanks for healing, then.
I think patience, diligence ot temperance could work for Drasven, too. But Isegrim already has Diligence homed in.
As for trait, there would always be student of faith - which could be a thematic fit and even provide a minor(at this point) benefit.
I think the traits vary wildly. I mean, one of them gives you one heavy horse with equipment and lifetime stabling.
Another one gives you +10% re-sale value of goods to merchants...that's a lot of extra horses over the course of an adventure path.
I struggle a bit to match them up with Lia - I was thinking maybe Family Ties(but she does have a family) - where instead of growing up with them she'd simply befriend them without any prejudice.
I could see her walk right into a sczarni camp being curious, then singing and dancing the evening away. And if one of them had a mind of targetting her for some trickery, the wise old fortune telling lady invariably part of every such group would point out the Butterfly accompanying her and tell them she's off limits lest they want to incur Desnas ire. A "honorary" Varisian/Sczarny, so to say.(Could also help with where she really learned how to use a Starblade).
That said, I think Sloth is pretty much locked in. If Karmid takes Humility and Isegrim Vigilance, that leaves Drasven and me to pick, and we both eye Kindness(but I'm fine with taking something else, like Temperance, after re-reading it).
I am not sure I want "Chastity" as her defining characteristic. Lia is oblivious to flirting, she is naive and would approach anything sexual with a childlike curiosity. But she is not an asexual being. She grew up on a farm when she was little. She did see animals procreate. She knows why she bleeds once a month. She does know all that is relationship stuff and she is not ready for one. She does not sexualize stuff - like tomorrow during shopping, she will love being naked beneath the hat of disguise. Not because it's nasty or risky, but because she can feel the wind and the sun on her skin and she can be free and dance with no long-cut dress hindering her. But not making things about something sexual should not invalidate her as a potentially sexual being, once she is ready to extend her sexuality to another person again(yes, she has alone time. She knows about desires and how to take care of them. I imagine it's rare for her, but not never). As in, she is chaste because there is no one right and she is not actively searching for someone, not chaste out of some deep personal conviction.

Karmid Groundbreaker |

I didn't get that impression from your post. No worries.
Sorry about that. Im out of town and Im not always great with follow-up sometimes.

GM Polyfrequencies |

Not to get too far off topic, but chastity is one of those odd vestiges of ancient western morality that doesn't hold up to a modern multicultural lens. To be fair, the book has the following list of virtues versus the vices:
So if that changes or informs anyone's answers, have at it. But in general I prefer the list I gave you initially. Lust doesn't strike me as being either the opposite of love or a particular excess or deficiency, so it doesn't quite fit as well.
(And yes, this is a question coming from the book. There's probably no need for me to be sneaky about that.)
I think that the paladin oath of chastity from Ultimate Magic provides a better in-universe understanding of the value of chastity. Clearly there are married canon paladins who have kids, so it's not an all-consuming goal.
If it wouldn't require a rewrite of all sorts of in-universe stuff, I'd happily overlay something like Aristotle's Nichomachaen Ethics onto the existing paradigm. But that isn't strictly necessary since my goal here is not to pass moral judgment on a character or shade in the nuances of how they fit into their existing alignments, but rather to understand their motivations in a new way.
---
All that to say, I think I'm narrowing in on a good sense of each character and certain challenges I can drag them towards for the next four books.
If the group wants to RP shopping or anything else, or just return straight to the old Shrine to Sarenrae in the Underbridge, just let me know.

Karmid Groundbreaker |

I just got back yesterday from my big trip, so I have not updated the money item/treasure/money sheets yet. I will do that this week ASAP if you guys can hold off a little longer on shopping.
For now I would say I don't mind moving on to clearing out the shrine next.

Rojava Brishen |

I'm content to stick with the original vices/virtues list, and my choices from it for Ro.
I don't have a preference for gear buying RP or moving on, happy to go along with the majority.

GM Polyfrequencies |

If you're still having a hard time, you can just upload the image to a link that you share with me, whether publicly or privately. Imgur, Google Drive, or any other cloud or cloud-like service should do.
If I haven't linked it previously, I typically use Token Stamp 2 to make avatars.

Lia Tani |

Ugh, I love that spell!
Me too. Turns me into an instant disney princess.
*smiles*
Flutter, Figment Sage Butterfly |

Btw, I get that Flutter is excluded because he already made the checks last time.
BUT:
He got only specific sub-parts of the categories, based on my understanding of the prompt.
If we ARE doing full categories, then he should be entitled to some additional information.
(And would have shared that information with the others, so Karmid does not have to double up on the same categories - (which is just as well, 26 beats DC 14 by 10, not 15, so it's 3 questions, not 4.)
(I originally asked for Elemental Resistances, SR, and Senses with Flutters 3 Questions)
So based on the "Categories" that would be
Senses
Special Defenses (e.g., DR, SR, Resistances, Immunities)
and I'll take
Other Special Abilities (SQ)
as the third one(since SR and Resistances are both Special Defenses).
So those 3 all of us would already know prior to coming here.

GM Polyfrequencies |

Yes indeed, only three questions for Karmid, and no need to double-up.
The categories are an open conversation until we settle on what the table likes. Do you want Special Defenses to give everything in that category, or for it (and perhaps other categories) to be combined? Consider what you find fair versus engaging rather than just useful. The rules are left deliberately vague, but I generally prefer each item be an individually useful thing. I also want to enable the table to keep moving at a good pace, so stopping and waiting for each item to figure out what else you want to ask seems like a poor practice that would unnecessarily slow us down.
For instance, one actual-play podcast that I listen to tends to rattle off all special defenses but includes the proviso that "The creature has DR. Knowing what overcomes that DR is a separate question."[/b] Face-to-face, this could work, but would slow us to a crawl in PbP. (Some of this could be alleviated if we set up a Discord channel for quick questions.)
I generally like being able to provide the information about a creature in a narrative sense rather than something purely mechanical, so if it can be linked together I'll link it together.
So, thoughts?
(Just waiting on Drasven's action in gameplay.)
