About Lia Tani

Backgrounds moved to botttom of Profile
I'm leaving this here...Lia when she dreams

Personality:
Lia understands OTHERS perfectly. Sometimes better than they understand themselves. But others may have a hard time understanding HER. She permanently does not only see what does happen, but what could happen, or could have happened. It is a blur that is all one to her. She may see a dog bite you, and claim that the dog is dangerous, only for you to take note of the dog, causing it to back down and not bite. For Lia however, it happened, the dog bit you, even if a different timeline was travelled, because that was just an evasion that took place because she was aware of the alternative.
Seeing different strands of fate, different possibilities, ideas and motivations of people, paths open, travelled, or closed, takes a great toll on a persons mind. Where our conscious mind only ever focuses on a small aspect of what our brain thinks about, for Lia, the floodgates of the unconscious are open. She dreams permanently, while awake, and that is more than a sane mind can take.

Description:
After her awakening magical potential manifested, Lia had started using Prestidigitation to color her hair blueish. Nobody ever managed to get a satisfactory answer from her as to WHY she did so. She wears light robes, but those are more of an afterthought than a fashion statement. She had been known to forget to undress at night, or, worse, forget to dress in the morning, her mind occupied with other things. For the same reason, she has a very lithe frame and a small build. While she is very nimble, and quite healthy, she never ate very much, and often forgets a meal. She never really trained physically, and her strenght is very lacking.
A light breeze usually accompanies her, blowing into her face, and quite likely magical in nature.(Also, while the portrait is a close match, disregard the golden jewellery)

=====Dreamspun Bloodline=====
Your family is a long line of dreamers, who dream not as ordinary mortals do but rather as those who reach through and touch the supernal realm of dreams and the farthest shores of night. Whether it is a gift or curse is not always clear, but your visions of the past and future call you ineluctably to a life of adventure.

Bloodline Arcana: Whenever you target a single creature with a spell, you gain an insight bonus equal to half the spell’s level (minimum +1) for 1 round to your AC and saving throws against any spell or attack made by that creature.
Bloodline Powers: You reach out into and through the world of dreams to touch the minds and destinies of those around you.

Lullaby (Sp): At 1st level, you can use lullaby as a spell-like ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier. This effect lasts for 1 minute and does not require concentration. The penalty on saves versus sleep effects increases to –4. replaced by Bloodline Familiar
Combat Precognition (Su): Your insight into the future grants you an advantage in combat. At 3rd level and every 4 levels thereafter, you gain a +1 insight bonus on initiative checks.
Dreamshaper (Sp): At 9th level, you can manipulate the dreamscape of others, drawing forth or tampering with their subconscious minds. This power allows you to tamper with the target’s memories as if using modify memory, or you may ask questions as if using speak with dead upon a corpse. A successful Will save negates the effect. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 your sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier, with further modifiers as the nightmare spell. You can use this ability once per day at 9th level. At 17th level you can use this ability twice per day, and at 20th, three times per day.
Eye of Somnus (Sp): At 15th level, you can project your consciousness as if using arcane eye. In addition, at any point you can cause the arcane eye to become visible. The eye can no longer be moved, but it acts as a symbol of sleep to all who see it. You may use this power once per day.
Solipsism (Ex): At 20th level, you can drift into the dream world, fading from the world around you. You can become incorporeal for 1 minute per sorcerer level. You gain the incorporeal subtype and take only half damage from corporeal magical attacks (you take no damage from nonmagical weapons and objects). Your spells deal only half damage to corporeal creatures, but spells and abilities that do not deal damage function normally. The duration need not be continuous, but it must be used in 1-minute increments.

Haze of Daydreams (Su): At 6th level, you can emit a 15-foot-radius haze of daydreams for a number of rounds per day equal to your cleric level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. Creatures within the haze gain the fascinated condition unless they succeed at a Will save (DC equal to 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + your Wisdom modifier). You may designate a number of creatures equal to your cleric level that are not affected by the haze. The fascinated condition ends immediately when the creatures leave the area or the aura expires.

BACKGROUND / Story and Info.

The Ten-Minute Background:

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!

1) Lia has a very lithe build and small frame, looking even younger than she is.
2) She is of a split mind...while her human self is overwhelmed by constantly "dreaming" while awake(something she somewhat learned to cope with), her scientific, mental self took refuge in Flutter, and manifests as a butterfly.
3) She is marked by Desna, both in her bloodline, the birthmark, and the choice of familiar.
4) People in her village thought her to be crazy, or worse, possessed, but the acolytes in Sandpoint were open to her quirks after learning she was choosen by a Goddess.
5) Reality, for Lia, is shifting. There is not one perfect truth, to her, there are several, equally valid ones. At the same time.

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

1) Character Goal: Lia is not a highly ambitious person. She knew from a young age, however, that would have a destiny to fulfill. Her most likely goal would be to find freedom by fulfilling what Desna had in mind for her.
2) Player Goal: As Flutters Intelligence starts low, but will raise, I want to see some transformation in Lia too, as she gains better control over her circumstances. A goal, here, would be to find something she can return to AFTER fulfilling her destiny. True friendship, family, love...

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!

1) Character Secret: Kira, her best friend, was more than just a friend, when they did some experimentation during puberty(exploring their awakening sexuality). They stopped(just a phase), but it still connects them as a secret only they share.
2) Hidden secret: Lia's brother, who wanted to learn a trade in Sandpoint, but was refused, is envious of his little sister living at the cathedral while he has to be a farmer. He would love to see her fail, and wants to outdo her, training as a warrior to try and escape the life as a farmer.(He may do something to sabotage her(without actually hurting her), or end up in peril(e.g. as a caravan guard))

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

1) Kira, co-acolyte of Lia, they shared a room ever since Lia arrived at the cathedral. Her parents delivered her to the temple at a young age and never visited. Best friend, confidante in all things, short-time (experimental) lover, and most likely the closest thing to family the two of them have in Sandpoint.
2) Father Creeg, a cleric of Desna, who took Lia in back when her parents brought her. Age was not kind to him, and his mind no longer works as well as it used to, as he suffers from slight dementia. No longer serves at the Cathedral, but the Acolytes take turns making sure he is alright and has everything he needs.
3) Avaria, a former acolyte...she stole from the temple, and when Lia tried to convince her to stop, one of the clergy was listening as Avaria refused and instead threatened Lia, resulting in Avaria being thrown out of the temple. Not willing to return to her parents, she found a new home in the thieves guild, but blames Lia for having been kicked out and seeks revenge.

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

1) As long as Lia can think back, Flutter was there...she thinks in the beginning there've been others, too, but only Flutter stayed.
2) Lia is easily distracted by patterns and often forgets parts of her daily routine when distracted.(since he's basically a part of her, usually Flutter also doesn't call her out on that unless someone else does.)
3) With no children of her age in her home town, and spending most of her time since in a temple with other female acolytes, she is a bit oblivious to romance or boys. In other words, she would take flirting at face value, and not understand innuendo for what it is.

Background:

Lia was born to a family of farmers, in a village outside of Nybor. Little more than a hamlet, less than a 100 souls lived there, and no other kids of Lia's age. So when, as a small child, she started talking to animals and inanimate objects as if they could understand her, people thought it was a lack of friends that led her to do this. Her parents worked hard, as did her 2 significantly older siblings, and had no time to spend the day playing with her.

However, when her habit of speaking to things that could not answer continued into puberty, it was considered somewhat strange...especially when she seemed to not only speak with them, but rather hold a conversation, laughing, asking questions...now, farmers in such outlying villages tend to be superstitious folk, and they worried. Not only the neighbours, but her own family as well, even if their reasons differed.

Lia's family had little money, but all the same, after the harvest was done, there was little to do for them while waiting for winter. In Lia's 12th year, they decided to travel to Sandpoint, and have the clergy take a look at her. Her older brother wanted to learn a trade in a larger city, anyway, so they gave their herds over to a neighbour for keeping, and travelled to the City.

When they arrived at the Sandpoint Cathedral, Lia was brought before a Cleric, when she grew angry:"No, he's not the one. He's all wrong!" Not knowing why the girl was so agitated, Father Hammond asked:"Why am I wrong, child? You do not know me, do you?" Lia hesitated shortly, then put on a pout:"You are wrong because Flutter told me. He knows these things!".
When Father Hammond looked at her parents with a questioning look in his eyes, Lia's father explained:"Flutter is an...imaginary friend of Lia that only she sees and hears."
Hammond asked:"And this...Flutter, he told you that I'm wrong? Did he tell you why?"
Lia looked intently at a spot next to Hammond, nodded, then replied:"He told me your cloak is the wrong color and thats why you would not understand me!"
Hammond tugged on his beard with one hand: "Aha, is that so...and Flutter is here right now? What does he look like?"
Lia shrugged:"The same as always, I guess. Like a purple butterfly, kind off, only larger."
Lia's father tried to interject:"A talking butterfly, no le...", but was cut short when Hammond motioned for silence with his hand, before he took a step back and cast Detect Magic. Looking first at Lia, then following her gaze, he cleared his throat:"I understand. You were right, I am the wrong priest. You will want to talk with Father Creeg, over the...", letting his voice trail off when he saw Lia was already heading towards Creeg.

When Desna's cleric had spoken a bit with her, he came up to Lia's parents, and explained to them that their daughter has been picked by Desna, to serve in a way that mere mortals could not begin to understand, lacking the foresight of the gods. He offered to keep Lia in the temple and train her in the way of the clergy. It had not been what Lia's family came to do, but they were wise enough not to contest the plans of a god...and being a priestess would be a very respectable occupation for a simple farmers daughter...they agreed, and Lia was to stay. She was assigned a sleeping room with some other acolytes, and begin her training in the morning.

The first night after her parents left Sandpoint, however, she came down with a heavy fever over night. She seemed very ill, and 2 of the other girls were eventually tasked with bathing her, to cool her down. They stripped Lia down before placing her in the water, and found a sort of pulsing tumor on her back, a hand broad above her buttocks. One of the Acolytes quickly went to fetch a superior, while the other washed Lia with a sponge. Before the first one returned, though, the tumor opened, like a cocoon, and a purple butterfly emerged. Seconds later, the tumor crumbled into dust and nothingness, leaving only the birthmark Lia had always borne there, in the shape of Desna's holy symbol.
When the acolyte returned with Creeg, the butterfly cut into his path towards Lia, and a voice emerged from it:"Some privacy, if you please? At least let her get dressed!" Both the acolytes and Creeg stood there with mouths open, staring at the fluttering talking being before them.
Lia recovered quickly, but from that day onward, exhibited magical talent...sounds, shadows, wind...she seemed to be able to make them do her bidding. But as she drifted into the world of magic, she drifted ever so slightly further away from sanity...and with her, always, was that little butterfly...when she slept, he was gone, when she woke, it was back. And where she saw things that were not there, it seemed "Flutter" had become her voice of reason.
Either way, with her magical potential awakened, training as a priestess was suspended. She was still an acolyte, and a choosen by Desna, so she stayed in the temple, and trained as a temple maiden, until such time as Desna would send a sign that Lia was needed elsewhere.

Sample post:
"Say, Lia, your parents were also supposed to visit for the swallowtail festival, right?", Kira asked as she turned her attention from the other acolytes in the dining hall to the dreamy-eyed girl sitting at the end of the table, staring into her soup without eating, a large butterfly sitting on her shoulder.
When spoken to, Lia, with some effort, drew her attention from the swirls and patterns in her meal, and looked over to her roommates as if she just awoke. The butterfly took it upon himself to answer the Acolytes inquiry:"No...they wanted to come, but Lia wrote them not to. There's no reason to travel all the way to Sandpoint for them!"
"Oh come on, aren't you mopey...Lia, you're their only daughter and they only see you once a year, thats more than enough of a reason!", Kira replied as she moved closer to Lia on the bench, patting her on the back:"Sentimental? Lonely? Or did Flutter give you that idea?", throwing a playfully evil glance at the butterfly.
Lia moved the soup away from herself with an unfocused gesture...she would not continue to eat anyway...and instead focused on her friend. Closest friend, she should say - the other girls were nice, too, but Kira really cared about her:"It's not that, Kira, but something will be different this year. I think something bad is going to happen...and I will not be at the temple much longer."
Kira tried hard to not show that she was worried - Lia still saw it but appreciated the attempt - as she answered:"Silly you. Nothing will happen to you. You're just mixing up bad dreams with a premonition. You'll see, you will be sorry you told your parents not to come!" With a forced smile, she continued:"Lets go to the festival grounds after the meal and get you to cheer up a bit. You've been lost in thought all week!"
The way her friend cared for her was enough to brighten Lia's thoughful mood, and she smiled back at her:"I'm good, we can go right now!" When Kira started to open her mouth, Lia continued:"And no, I'm not finishing my soup, again.", causing both girls to giggle for a moment, as they stood up, returning their dishes to the kitchen and cleaning them.

Minutes later, they were at the festival grounds, checking the artists and attractions that had come to visit for the Swallowtail festival, Flutter sitting motionless in Lia's hair like some kind of hairpin. Soon, Kira found herself magically drawn to a ring-toss booth, with a silver bracelet being the grand prize. Fake, most likely, but still beautifully crafted. Kira handed over some coins and began to toss, while talking to Lia, idly chatting the time away, complaining that her parents probably even forgot they had a daughter and never visited.
She came close to winning, but ONE ring always failed to go on the peg, circling around the top and falling down. Kira handed over more and more coins:"I almost got it...I can do this!", throwing with utmost concentration, her tongue sticking out.
Lia watched her, then flatly stated:"No...not like this." before adressing the operator:"Could I also have a try?", paying the copper pieces and receiving some rings to throw at a different peg.
Lia stared at her rings for a moment, then picked one and handed it to Kira:"And you give me that one!", taking one ring from Kira in return.
While Kira looked at her puzzled, Lia threw her rings carelessly in the general direction of the peg without really trying, then came over and put her hand on Kira's shoulder:"I believe in you, you can do it!", Lia smiled at her...and sure enough, Kira managed to hit the peg with all 3 remaining throws. Grudgingly, the operator handed over the bracelet, and Kira was overjoyed:"Oh, it's beautiful...come on, lets find some sweets, my treat!", moving towards the food stands. When they were a few steps away from the booth, some suspicion ripened in her mind:"Lia, was he cheating? Is that why I could not hit the peg with all rings before?"
Lia just shrugged her shoulders:"Honestly, I have no idea. Could be. Or maybe you were just nervous, and subconsciously thought he must be cheating, and when I gave you one of my rings, you expected to do better and thats why you did hit then. Or maybe it was both. You have the bracelet, right, so there's no reason to worry about it!" Kira stared at Lia's smiling face for a moment trying to make sense of the explanation, then decided to let it go, and the two girls spent the remaining afternoon sampling diverse delicacies on the festival grounds, having fun...

Party Role and Interaction:

While intended to work as a Sorcerer(Dreamspun Bloodline), focusing on debuffing, buffing, and battlefield control, the fact that she is Arcanist gives added flexibility in the availability of utility spells.

Eventually, she'll be able to counterspell as inmediate action(hopefully shutting down enemy casters), and make good use of the Shadow Spells for even more flexibility.

With good Con+Dex and her Combat Precognition(Snake Style, Deflect Arrows, both reflavored) she should not be too squishy for a caster nor need constant babysitting/guarding.

She will also bring a number of skills that are unusual for a Arcane Caster, and could double as a "face" with good diplomacy(reflavored in that she knows what they want to hear...) and sense motive.

Her figment(part of herself taking refuge) sage(yeah, that part) Familiar, on the other hand, handles all the knowledge skills, eventually getting REALLY good at it(as his int raises each level and he gets bardic-knowledge-equivalent boni on the skills, translating into a +1 on all knowledge skill per level starting at 3rd level(+1 bardic on even, +1 int on uneven levels), before skill points), representing Lia more clearly separating her methodical mind(in flutter) from her chaotic mind(in Lia).

Lia is open to all kinds of people, and used to judging them by intent, not result.(because results are muddy business, in her eyes). She did live a somewhat sheltered life so far, and while her visions and precognitions may partially prepare her for what she will face, actually experiencing things is a whole different story.
She is Chaotic Good, and would always feel friendly towards people sharing that outlook...the closer, the better.
