Maps and Handout

So I guess the hound archon could acrobatics and then attack on the opposite side; he could Greater Teleport but that would spend his standard.

Balazar, Heccan, and Brother Theo gather in the common room unable to get into the fray in the crowded bedroom. The hound archon however makes a move to get past the dark stalker.

acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

The hound's attempt is rebuked by the dark folk and it's forced to retreat out of the room.

With the difficult positioning only Kudor is able to get up close and personal.

Herodotus is up, but to save time the dark folk does this after Herodotus turn:

The dark stalker again attempts to assault the impenetrable Kudor.

mk short sword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

2nd mk short sword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

The totally defensive Kudor deflects the attacks.

My apologizes, that last combat ended up dragging quite a bit, in hindsight I should have just called it when dark stalker ran upstairs.

I'll fast track a bit of your investigation to move us toward the next scene.

Herodotus leads the search upstairs. As Queth goes in first, clearing each area, assuring the rest there are no traps.

The dark stalker upstairs has on his person:

mwk studded leather, 2 mwk short swords, mwk composite shortbow (+3 Str) with 18 arrows,4 doeses of black smear poison, and 79 gp

Once downstairs you find the other dark stalker has the same exact stuff! The mastiffs have no gear or treasure.

Upstairs you find the center room’s only furnishings are a large table and several chairs. Three of doorways lead to bedrooms, while the other door leads to a storage room. You see signs that the dark stalkers and dogs where moving around up here but no solid clues about the missing people.

Moving back downstairs, you find a cozy sun porch just off of the lounge, opposite the dining room. The porch harbors several pieces of light rattan furniture. On the low central table are half-finished drinks filled with watered-down, room-temperature liquor. Several playbills from the Cloisoi Theater lie strewn around the lounge. The cover of each playbill features a portrait of the Olivina Sharnau wearing the beggar costume that currently hangs near the front doors. The play advertised is called “Orphan of Okeno.” Just underneath the playbill is a scrap of paper, yet another note written in disappearing ink.

Porch note:

"He stole from the best of us. He stole from us the best of us."

The rear door to Miregrold Manor is made of sturdy wood and is sealed with a well-crafted lock.

At the back of the house you find an open-air porch enclosed in an iron trellis, which supports a tangle of thorny rose vines. A gap in the trellis offers access to a slightly unkempt rear flower garden. You notice a small scrap of cloth dangling from one of the rose thorns near the entrance to the garden. The fabric is coarse, blackened with grime, and smells overwhelmingly of sewage and body odor.

Next, the expansive and well-stocked kitchen is a mess. Pots, pans, and cooking utensils lie strewn across the countertops, crusted over with food residue. A rubbish bin sits along the wall, filled with several meals worth of food and a handful of porcelain shards. The shards match the porcelain missing from the cabinet. Nailed to the door inside the kitchen is a scrap of paper.

Kitchen Note:

"Who did you abduct to earn our vengeance?" Again the ink disappears.

Going through this door you find, this pantry is in a state of disarray. It once contained shelves filled with dried foods, canned goods, and bags of root vegetables. However, something has torn several of the shelves off the walls, littering the floor with broken jars and wooden planks. A concealed door that the shelves once obscured now hangs open, revealing a stone staircase beyond. The way in which the debris is arrayed suggests someone broke down the door from inside the stairwell. Another scrap of paper, lies atop the wreckage.

Pantry Note:

"Who else’s blood must stain your hands before you are gone?" Yep...disappears.

You move carefully down the stairs, Queth not finding any traps. The preponderance of cobwebs and dust in the stairwell imply that it was decommissioned years ago, yet a series of footprints in the dust indicates that someone used it recently. You deduce that the footprints likely belong to the same creature that tracked mud across the rug upstairs. Fours doors are in this room, three lead to packed closets.

See on the map where I have you

I'm going to say you did most of your searching quickly spending about 3 rounds per room. So lets say you spend 3 minutes reaching your current location.

However, feel free to post additional actions you would like to take, and we'll resolve them before moving forward.

Let me know what you would like to do.

Maps and Handout

The hound archon opens the door revealing shelves line the perimeter of this stone chamber, bearing rawhide dolls, alien figurines, and other strange curios. For every dust-covered relic, another two spaces lie vacant. A dingy pipe organ stands against the west wall, and several barrels and crates are pushed off to the periphery. Most show signs of having been forced opened and appear empty. A small wooden table rests near the middle of the room.

You find a bound and gagged Olivina Sharnau on the floor in front of the organ, another man sits with his back against the wall. His fine coat is torn, revealing an ornate scarab tattoo on his inner arm. He's also bound and gagged. A figure dressed in an ornate black outfit is crouching on the seat of the organ chair with a sword drawn. Another dark stalker seems to be asleep next to the organ.

The dark figure speaks At long last, Pathfinders, the bread crumbs lead to your own lodge— you, the murderers, thieves, and scoundrels Zoathrias should have known you were! Now let all of Ustalav know your secrets!

She then begins casting a spell, ready to fight.

Will DC19: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24

The black figure is not blinded but is outlined.

Queth moves forward dispelling the illusion.

What was the masked figure, is actually the gagged and bounded Olivina; and Olivina is actually the masked figure. Also, what looked like two barrels appear now as two lean figure, wickedly adorned in barbed chains with gaps in the bindings revealing deathly pale flesh etched with jagged scars.

As the illusion falls, the dark figure, actually casts a spell, and familiar magical darkness fills the area. Except Balazar and Queth's daylight effects counteract it and the room is in dim light.

The chain people advance, there chains jingle as they approach, the chains sail out at Balazar and Queth.

Both of the attacks miss, one do to the menacing presence of the hound archon.

So, had to keep those gals secret in the init order, until the illusion was seen through.

The hound archon was not yet able to move forward to attack and Herodotus will likely want to retcon too, however if you just want to change your target you can keep your rolls in both cases if you want.

Recruiting open for 6-23, first come, first serve.

I'm interested. Have not played or GMed it either, so even more better!

I have so many characters in level range (...9 characters in 7-11 range...), I'll hold off on character until others post.

Grand Lodge

Yarr Pirate Rob here.

Would like to play Kudor, my Dimensional Assaulting Shield Bashing Slayer.

I have played this before but did not complete the adventure and would be using a GM * Replay.

If that's at all an issue I'm happy to step asside.

I've been looking forward to playing the summoner pregen but wouldn't want to bump an actual player. When do you plan to start this?

If it is starting next month I should have a Wizard in range. But he is an Evoker with a capital E and may not suit an investigation mission.

Grand Lodge

GM Andrew here

With what's signed up so far, I'm leaning towards my Spellscar Oracle 9. He's a pure defense abjuration specialist, no damage or debuffs, and quite good at counterspells and dispelling magical effects. He can also deal with traps. He has no issues using defensive and healing spells in combat.

Also of note, he has adventured in Ustalav before.

Silver Crusade

This is part of GameDay V so the game will begin on 27 August.

@Pirate Rob - no problem, welcome aboard

@Bigguyinblack - Either way is fine, welcome aboard

@Queth - Welcome aboard

Grand Lodge

The 27th is when he would hit level 7. I'll play it safe and play the pregen. I like summons and Balazar has some decent social skills.

Grand Lodge

We gonna try to recruit more? Right now we're at 3.

Grand Lodge

I'm interested, but I won't be able to start on the 27th. I should be ready to go full blast on the 29th though.

I'd be bringing a 9th level paladin (Divine Hunter) to the table.

Grand Lodge

I'll be applying this to a level 1 btw. 500 gp max.

Dark Archive

If there is room I would like to join.

PFS 66136-3 Rognak the Thrice-dead
Wizard (Spell Sage) 10

Silver Crusade

Again, Game will start on the 27th when the gameday starts.

@Queth -- yes!

@Upayano -- Don't mind you starting a couple days late, so feel free to join.

@Balazar -- got it

@Rognak -- Welcome aboard

So, we have:

1. Queth - Spellscar Oracle 9
2. Kudor - Dimensional Assaulting Shield Bashing Slayer 9
3. Balazar the Gnome - Summoner 7
4. Upaynao w/ Paladin (Divine Hunter) 9
5. Rognak the Thrice-dead - Wizard (Spell Sage) 10
6. Tbd - room for one more

Going to go ahead and open discussion and gameplay, please post pertinent info in discussion and you are welcome to engage in some pregame roleplaying in gameplay.

I am looking to join if you are still accepting. Would play Heccan Abraxi 7th level sorcerer.

Grand Lodge

With Wicked Brew that puts us at APL 8.5

So we as a group have a choice.

We can choose to round that down to 8. That puts us in the 7 - 8 subtier with 4 players that are out of tier.

Or we can round that up to 9. That puts us in the 10 - 11 subtier but with the 4 player adjustment if there is one. 5 of us would be out of tier. Albiet with more gold and possibly better items. If we live.

Since I'm playing a pregen and assigning it to a new character I have very little stake in this so abstain from voting.

I would bring in a real character to help push it one way or the other but when this starts both of my characters in range will be level 7.

Silver Crusade

I'll be getting OoT gold either way. We might get access to better stuff. But is it worth barely making it to the high tier? (As you can tell, I'm skeptical.)

Grand Lodge

Especially with a level 7 pregen, I would recommend playing down.

Grand Lodge

With two 7's, I'd prefer to play down as well.

Dark Archive

Guess I am in? Cool. I am fine with playing up or down. Playing down less risky but as Herodotus points out, good loot either way.

Grand Lodge

That is 3 votes for down and 2 non votes. Down it is. Hopefully Rognak is okay with it.

I think for action economy purposes I will be summoning a Hound Archon before we go into a situation that might be dangerous. That will free me up for casting other spells.

Dark Archive

At 10th level, I will be voting up but understand. If things change we might have to revisit it but to give the group a rough idea on his power, with a slot at each level left open to change spells with fast study, he still has 5 1/2, 4 3/4 and 2 5th level spells. It might end up being a cake walk. Now the other option might be to swap him out for my laser Cleric (Aasimar 8)

Grand Lodge

The consensus seems to be play at 8-9. I don't mind cake walks but you should play what makes you happy.

Silver Crusade

I agree with that beyond words.

Grand Lodge

*Err 7-8 not 8-9. But otherwise yea.

Silver Crusade

Sorry gang I was traveling this weekend.

@Heccan -- welcome aboard

Sounds like you all are leaning toward 7-8 subtier. That's fine with me. Keep in mind if you do decide to play up it would be with the 4 player adjustment.

@Rognak -- you are most effected, feel free to bring you laser Cleric if you want or stick with your wizard. Your choice.

Grand Lodge

Welcome back. Having some preknowledge of this scenario I'm happy to not vote on the tier and play whatever the table chooses.

Silver Crusade

Looks like Rognak graciously switched to Brother Theo, so we are firmly in 7-8 now.

Great roleplaying, I'm enjoying reading it, looking forward to actually starting!
