Friend Jask?!"

Setebo grabs a passing citizen and, smiling, says "Where is the South Arcadian Whaling Company?"

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

"Aye. I'm in," Helga confirms.

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

"I have no idea where it is, probably near the waterfront though."

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Bump :(

The Whaling company is as you would expect placed well away from any residential area it oes on the end of a long sand spit that protrudes into the harbour.

As you approach the area the first thing you notice is the smell of rendered whale blubber..

All scent abilities are useless here

In the interest of getting things done quickly...

Caithan seeks out the nearest group of armed fremen.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

As they approached the Whaling company building, Atzi stuck close to Tlatoc. She hoped they weren't too late, following Caithan and his dogs into the horrid smell of rotten fish that permeated the air of this bloody place...

Yay!

The second thing you notice as you come into sight off the compound is that a crowd is gathering outside..mainly unarmed they look up to the roof of the Flensing Shed where a man holds a bound Jask at knifepoint and rants about his demands for the abolition of slavery and the expulsion or death of all foreigners.

He has cover from the ground and it is obvious that any attempt to attack him will result in Jask's death.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

"Get under cover," Helga mutters. "We need to think about this...try and find a way of getting into that building without them noticing, or else wait until he finishes ranting."

{Description or map of the 'compound' and surroundings please oh mighty blue master?}

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi nods, looking gimly on at Jask's threatened state. If something happened to him these freemen would pay...

Perception - Looking for any obvious entrance: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

COMPOUND DESCRIPTION

The Compound is surrounded by a stout and well built stockade.Entrance is gained through the front office building the doors of which are shut and the windows have their shutters up. Next to the offices is the rendering plant.

Beyond that there are a couple of outbuildings and the main Flensing Shed the latter is where Jask and his Captor stand..it's three stories high and has no real front wall being open to the elements ..

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi falls back a few steps and hides herself where she can't be easily seen. Turning herself into a Deinonychus like Tlatoc, in her small form she'd be able to move around mostly unobserved. And scout out the area for the group. She zips past Corvus with a hiss and wiggles her tail at him as she rushes off into the compound in search of an easier way in...

Take 10 so 18 stealth, 19 Perception check.

AC13 HP 12/12 Init + 2 Pass Percept + 3 Pass Insight + 1 Saves:*Str:+5 *Dex:+4 Con:+2 Int:+0 Wis:+1 Cha:-1

Caithan fidgets in frustration his dogs busying themselves with the cleanliness of their own genitals while he contemplates various quite brutal ways to end the ranting on the other side of the wall.

Corvus waits pateiently. 'Challenging work this adventuring. Lots of action and then lots of waiting for action it seems. Not sure what's going on now - but I'm sure the others have a cunning plan that's about to take shape...any second now.'

Atzi can't dash into the compound the stockade is too well made to allow even a small creature to slip through the log wall.

She works along the wall until she finds herself on the beach..here a whale carcass partly flensed has been dragged up into a gap in the wall.

I'll assume she returns and gets the rest off you..resume from that point

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

The small Deinonychus returns and transforms back into Atzi, right alongside her comrades. "There is an opening, a carcass holds open a gap in the wall, it is our only way in..."

Corvus wrinkles his nose at the expectation of the smell. 'Clearly adventuring is less glamorous than I had envisaged.'

Putting on a brave voice, "Great, lead the way." His accompanying smile is weak however.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

"We'll have to stay quiet and keep to the shadows," Helga mutters. "Lead on, Atzi."

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Sticking close to the stockade masks you from view for almost the entire trip and you make it to the carcass without trouble..the stench of death here is incredible..but you can find a way to slide between the whale and the end of the fence.

The carcass is bound with thick cables that lead to a crank hoist at the top of the ramp. On either side sit warehouses converted for stripping and processing whale meat and blubber.

The courtyard is cobbled and open to view from all sides.

Map coming in the next day or so

Sorry for the delay..here's the map

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Map doesn't work :(

Ok try this link..the solid grey oval is the whale carcass

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

"If we steal past the carcass and follow around to the left, behind that warehouse, we should be able to get close to the back of the main building with none the wiser," Helga whispers.

AC13 HP 12/12 Init + 2 Pass Percept + 3 Pass Insight + 1 Saves:*Str:+5 *Dex:+4 Con:+2 Int:+0 Wis:+1 Cha:-1

Caithan nods and leads the way trying not to gag.

Again. Corvus follows - playing his part but clearly not looking to take any initiative at this stage. He still feels a fish out of water surrounded by veteran adventurers.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi nods at Helgas suggestion and moves forward to try and catch theyre enemies unaware.

stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Atzi draws your attention to a bow armed Guard on the roof of building to the left side of the compound.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

Helga nods, and draws out her wand of sleep. Hunkering down to stay as hidden as possible she points it at the guard and whispers the activation word. Use wand of sleep, Will DC11.

Will save1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

The bowman slumps to the tiles his bow falling from his hand to land with a slight clatter in the courtyard.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi nods to Helga. Giving her a thumbs up as her spell brings the man low.

Not wanting the man to decide to take up archery while they go about their dirty business Caithan takes the time to cut the string before he encourages the others to move on.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

He's on top of the building. Easier just to bypass him and let him think he fell asleep.

Helga leads the way, creeping around the building and keeping her eyes peeled for other guards or traps, anything that could give us away...

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

You manage to creep along the back of the building. The Freeman leader is still haranguing the crowd..it appears he really likes the sound off his own voice

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

Are there any ground floor windows other than the doors at the centre of the rear of the building?

No Windows at all on this building.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

Helga makes for the double doors at the back of the main building and checks them swiftly.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Ok I think there is some confusion here and to be honest I'm confused about what you are trying to achieve..the big building which contains the Freemen faces directly onto the rear of the blockhouse like entrance building and is open plan having no wall on the courtyard side. This means that attempting to reach the rear doors of the Entrance Building will result in your being seen and Jask's death.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

OK, now I am confused as well. I thought we were sneaking up to the back of the building, not the front. I take it, then, that the courtyard is full of Freemen, and we are skulking around them?

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

My stupid phone is being a pain about loading the map and now I am confused a little as well. Sorry for lack of posts, was in a car accident and am recovering lol. Its just been a cruddy year for me. :(

You went left on entering the compound..that takes you round the building that had the guard on it(Gold floor)..which is not the main building..the much larger building(Grey floor) is a three story affair and is occupied by the Freemen its front is open to the courtyard and offers a full view of the area. There are no guards in the compound itself.

The Building indicated by the planks texture is the office building that had it's front door locked and forced you to go round the outside to the whale.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

OK, I had the building's confused. The grey floored one is the one we want to get into. Can we get there around said whale without being seen?

Corvus keeps with the group, clearly relying on their superior adventuring experience to save the day.

He finally adds rather meekly. "Could we cause a diversion to draw people's attention away from us? We have enough animal friends to create quite a commotion."

You can make your way to the rear of the Big building without any real difficulty..though sleeping the guard was probably still a wise precaution..with luck he will just think he dozed off.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi nods at Helga's suggestion and starts moving quietly over towards the building with Tlatoc in tow. She whispers to Corvus. "If we are spotted Tlatoc and I will distract them, it'll be less likely to rouse suspicion if a pair of animals attack a fishery. Especially with a poor creature like this here..."

Tlatoc
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Atzi
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

At the rear of the building, are there any windows or doors? Cellar entrance?

There is a long ladder leading all the way to the roof.

Female Half-Elf Bard 2/Ranger 2

Motioning the others to silence, Helga first gestures to Atzi and makes a wing-flapping motion with her hands, then starts up the ladder very slowly and carefully, her wand in her teeth. [ooc]Yes, I know it's meant to be a cutless, but the wand is quieter.[ooc]

Corvus falls into step, ascending the ladder - making sure he's neatly sandwiched somewhere in the middle of the group.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi motions to Tlatoc to stay and turns into a small Pteradon prior to moving to fly up and land on the roof.

Hey DM!
I am trying to play up the strangeness of setebo and I just thought of a feat that i want to swap for the rather dull toughness. However it is from the inner sea guide so it needs your ok.

Godless healing. once per day heal 1d8 + character level as a move action.

This does supply more HP than toughness but it cannot be used when in rage so that may balance it out.

Ok to swap?

note.Fey foundling is also an idea for some toughness replacing hp related oddness.

Godless healing seems ok..lets go with it..

Cool, barbarians tend to be healing sponges and without a paladin/cleric/life oracle we are starved for healing. Having a d8+level to draw on once a day will, if nothing else, mean that Setebo can get back to functional after a couple of days of down time.

We're low level, got to scrape every bonus we can.

Oh, while we're here. We are both, effectively, 2-weapon fighter types. You with actual weapons and me with claw claw and eventualy bite. We should talk so we dont step on each other's toes too much.

I see Setebo as being highly mobile. Max acrobatics and, at tenth level pounce. I expect to see him bouncing all over the battlefield using acrobatics or mobility to charge a different target every turn.

Out of rage he'll be more cautious favoring thrown and reach weapons.

Skill wise he will favor climb/swim and perception and may snag a oddball knowledge skill as time goes on and one strikes his fancy.

Seroiusly. I apologise if I crossed a line. I am rather bad at making characters so i am constantly looking at better designed ones and reverse engineering how ther got there.

Oh, that's a tough question. I'm not all that good with building characters so i don't really know what i'm aiming for. I want Natalyah to be a capable two weapon fighter and be able to shot a bow as well. Although i don't think that's possible.

But anyway i plan to continue with wielding two light weapons and taking more ranger levels. I've contemplated taking some rogue levels for sneak attack damage. The scout archttype should work (but that's only me going with the name, not the actual content). But to summarize, i really don't know.

Setebo and Natalyah seem to be two quite different characters so i don't think we'll be treading on eachothers toes mechanically speaking.

You might want to look at teamwork feats. There are a great way to get some nice bonuses and we have a cavalier coming in to make using them easier.

As far as two weapon and the bow. You can do it. You won't be as nasty as a dedicated archer but with your ranger spells you can get quite nasty. Speaking of which once you can cast 3rd level Setebo will move mountains to get you some pearls of power so you can cast Strong jaws/Greater magic fang/lockjaw on him on a regular basis. Maybe even wands.

Scout may not be the best choice. It is a standard Rogue until 4th level. If you are thinking of a 1 or 2 level dip in rogue then sniper might be better. It replaces trapfinding with an ability the halves range penalities. This might work into your archery focus. Thought if you are using a longbow or a heavy crossbow it may never come up.

Take a look at the ranger options as well. Skirmisher replaces spellcasting with some nice non-magical tricks.

I have to admit when I took the game over I never thought to check that everyone was singing from the same hymnsheet as regards to character creation..something to remember next time I'm in that situation.

I will be out of touch for a week as I will be going to a place with no internet connection. This is a drive I do not wnat to make, with people I don't like, to stay with them for a week in a place I dont want to go for a time I cannot financially afford. If you do not hear from me in a week check the news for a mass murder. That is all.

Sorry boss. Hangs head in shame.

I can't believe I did that.

Man this toxin is going to hurt.

18 str currently 16 pts of strength damage. That is more that 2 full weeks to recovery. Ouch

Time to dust off the long term care rules.
hmmm full day rest with a heal check every day means 4 days to recovery or twice that with 8 hours/day care.

At least str damage does not effect encumbrance or we would be toast.

"I think we should have stayed in Ibiza boss"

Jask is more than competent to see you through

Alternatively you could use a potion of Lesser Restoration to kick start the process.(the party has 4)

Alternatively I can bump Jask to level 3..he's done enough over the 2 weeks that the party has been on the island..(not that the players have seen it.That would give him Lesser restoration and let you recover more quickly.

I'm certainly not about making you hang around camp for days.

*reaches out from the nether*

Can't forget both Rollow and Caithan have fairly high strength scores as well. Not enough potions for everyone. We're going to be out for a long long while.

I worked it out using the healing rules. Jask can provide long term care to 6 patients at a time. Assuming total bed rest and a successful dc 15 heal check we will recover 4 Strength a day. At 16 Str damage we are down only 4 days. It should take the fair Natalya that long to decide to kill us or not.

I'm still tempted to bump the NPC's up a level.does anyone have any objections?

I don't have a problem with that.

On the one hand I like the idea of getting up to speed faster. On the otherhand I woder if having an NPC of higher level than the PC's might cause an overshadowing issue. On the the hand I don't have I also wonder if giving easy access to lesser restoration will make poison and disease trivial threats.

So in short, like the american voting public, I'm conflicted

There is also the issue that Tarkxt/The captain will be gone for a few days. Those could well be healing and rp days.

Jask is a purely camp based character..he's already got 2 patients under his care..and can't leave them for any extended period..the same goes for any of the other NPc's they are there as support not as front line.

I don't think it would be a big problem, unless something happens that will take the NPC's into action before we've had time to level up. Like Natalyah pushing herself over the edge. "What? If you think it's so easy exploring the island then you do it while i take care of the camp!"

Whhaat She would be a great entertainer. 'You! Buck up! Stop moping! I want to see nothing but smiles in this camp or.... Now cone on It's a small world after all...

shudder

I think levleing Jask (and the others?) is an excellent idea.

Setebo has no real interest in the loot. He has zero use for the armor, heavy armor is a no go for barbarians who want to stay mobile. The sword or the pick might be useful but I want to stick with my longspear for now.

The purse/shoulderbag is interesting I don't carry much gear and it could well replace my backback

In any case I want to thank you all for letting Setebo play. He is a strange little bestie but I think he'll be useful.

Oh, and who is keeping track of loot?

I have visions of Natalyah as a Camp Counsellor at a summer camp for spoilt rich kids..oh lord I am an evil man.

I keep seeing a young Granny Weatherwax leading a group of terified children in song.

Kumbya would never be the same again.

Yes! No mass murder stories so the Captain should be back and posting soon.

That would be pretty close to her worst nightmare. She would probably ditch the kids out in the woods several time only to be overwhelmed with guilt and having to find them again.
