Female Half-Orc Oracle 1

"Well, This Wreck will certainly Provide intresting to get to...."

Natalyah stands at the edge watching the wreck in the distance.

"This ship is beyond our reach.", she states dryly.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu looks at the wreck, sizing-up the distance to the islands critically.

"Difficult, yes. Impossible, no. We do have some self-proclaimed sailors, and whilst a raft would not get us back to the main-land, it should be safe enough to get out there..."

He then immediately starts looking for suitable logs...

Essentially, I propose to lash-together a small raft, and use it to get out to the wreck.

"Now and now, I did already find some extra t'ings in the wreckage on shore, if'n you be needing them, I don't t'ink I kin carry dem all. I have 3 extra waterskins, and 3 full ropes of fifty feet in addition to the ale what I did already found."

"You suggest taking a raft to the waves that have already bested a ship?", Natalyah says skeptical, although without the harshness she normally applies to suggestions she strongly disapproves off.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu shrugs.

"The worst of it should be beyond the islands, where the reefs are. The water should be relatively navigable between the main island and the smaller ones. I admit, however, that it will not be completely without risk..."

Atzi looks for visible hazards while trying to remember when the tide is supposed to go out. As she ponders she calls Quetza to her and after stroking his ridges for a few moments, she gestures toward the distant vessel and asks him to Seek.

As he takes to the air again and heads in the direction of the distant vessel, Atzi features look lost for a moment as she watches him go. She recover quickly though and she nods to her companion's.

Handle Animal: Seek 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

"While we prepare, hopefully Quetza can find what we cannot see."

"Are you able to tell if the weather will change?", Natalyah asks Atzi.

How is the weather by the way? My inner camera has suggested to me that the waters are quite turbulent, but that might not be the case.

"I can try friend Natalyah." Atzi studies the skies for several moments trying to predict the coming weather.

The weather will be scorchingly hot with rain sometime in the afternoon..

The waves are rough..theres quite a bit of surf and off course you need to get down to sea level as there is no beach here. The islands do give some shelter though the water behind them is relatively calm.

Quetza glides over towards the ship on the thermals and circles the wreck..he doesnt seem to find anything and soon returns with a squawk of annoyance.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

After Quetza lands Atzi tries to hide a chuckle behind the back of her hand at his squawks of annoyance and fishes out some jerky from her rations. She feeds him the jerky as she gives his ridges a through scratching in the hope he forgets what he was annoyed about. While she does this she talks calmly to Natalyah.

"We shall see the heat at its worst when the sun reaches the highest point, other then that I see no change in weather friend Natalyah. It seems Quetza didn't see anything... Getting ourselve to that ship will be interesting but Uchendu is right in our approach it would be the safest, I just hope the raft can hold so many of us."

"Then we better get going if we are to reach the wreck before the sun reaches the top of the heavens."

Natalyah helps to the best of her ability to craft a raft capable of taking the expedition to the island.

Female Half-Orc Oracle 1

" I'm not much of a Crafter, But I can chop some wood!"

Inka Brandishes her Great axe, with a Wide grin on her Face

"Just point me in the right direction"

As I said you'll have to build it on the beach..which is about 2 hours walk back ..and it will be noon by the time you get there.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

"Let us return to the shore and decide how we shall build this gorofa-hila. At least we can relax and let the heat pass before we build. Or we can continue our roaming, I am prepared for either friends." She adjusts her gear and waits to ask Quetza to Seek until after everyone is decided on what they want to do.

"We should head back to camp and wait for the heat to pass there. Then go to the shore and construct a raft. There must be at least one sailor among those guarding the camp than can construct a decent raft."

"I wonder if there's anything of true worth on that wreck...enough to waste precious water and additional food building a raft, if'n I'd only been able to save a raft from the Titania.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi smiles broadly at Cutlass, as she continues to scratch and rub Quetza's scaly ridges. "Friend Cutlass, although this island has been full of danger it is also a very easy place to hunt and water is most abundant. The only thing I worry about is someone getting hurt on the journeyl. Although If Quetza was strong enough I would ask him to carry some of us there. But he is still too small for that."

Cutlass Kallakan wrote:

"We need more than a raft to get off this island. If there's a chance we'll find something useful on that wreck i'm willing to explore it.", Natalyah says over her shoulder as she heads for the camp.

This and my previous post is under the assumption that we're not far from the camp and we'll reach before the heat wave comes. And that we don't waste too much time going back and forth to the camp as opposed to just going down to the beach and riding out the heat wave there.

You are perhaps 1&3/4 hours from both the camp and the beach. You should get back there just before the hottest period starts.

I finally managed to produce a map of the island that doesn't violate Paizo IP..pictures coming shortly

So here is a MAP of the part of the Island you have explored so far. A profitable afternoons work if I say so myself.

Nice!

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Nice indeed what program did you use to make it Wellard?

That's Hexographer..basically I just imported the map over from the AP and traced it out on the grid then filled in the interior of the island.Added a few symbols from the set they give you and I was good to go. It will certainly make things easier as regards working out how far you can go..the scale is about 5 hexes to a Mile. I have Campaign Cartographer as well but personally I find it a bit too fiddly for this sort of thing

I'm going to be slightly generous here

You make your back to the beach, where the flotsam of the Jenivere provides enough wood to make a crude raft that will hold all off you. However with the heat off the day and the usual afternoon rain it's almost dark by the time you are ready to launch it.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu spends the time overseeing the salvage and lashing together of the flotsam to produce the raft, making sure that everything is tightly joined, and as seaworthy as possible. He also makes sure that everyone is adequately watered, to try to avoid heat-exhaustion.

---

When everything is finished, he regards the resulting raft with a critical, but approving eye.

"Well done, ladies and gentlemen. Now, I think we should investigate that wreck this eve. That way, we can start the next day of investigating with a broad sweep along the northern coast-line."

Investigating another potentially undead-infested wreck, as the sun goes down? That is an opportunity too good to give-up :-)

Natalyah eyes the wreck in the distance for a moment. Then she helps to push the raft to the water and jumps onboard. She sits quietly throughout the journey, eyes fixed on the wreck (unless something happens, that is.

Female Half-Orc Oracle 1

Ink Holds onto the raft with a white-knuckled grip. Its obivious she doesn't like this tiny raft..

"By the gods! please let me make it across on this raft, I'll be a good girl, I promise!"

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi frowns as the decision to sail their small craft at night leaves her feeling ill at ease. "It will be harder to see hazards in the dark friends but I shall try..." She asks Quetz to take to the air and seek ahead of their craft as they go along. Atzi will stay towards the front of the craft and help to guide it away from natures unseen hand.

Amisi - as a desert girl - isn't confident to go out at all on such a raft so close to the waves. She has taken her water skin, emptied it and blown it up. It is secured on a two feet rope to her left wrist.

At least if she falls in and goes below the water line, then others will find it easier to spot her.

With white knuckles gripping the wood she looks straight ahead - seemingly a dead weight on the raft.

Amisi

OK I have to ask..are you confident in your ability to steer a raft through uncharted waters in almost pitch darkness. Please also remember that the surf is always quite heavy even at low tide

"Perhaps this be not the best time for this venture. If'n you wish to proceed on this venture, leave your food and water on the shore for the survivors."

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

I really wish you had not phrased it quite that way, Cutlass...

"Very well. I may see you all tomorrow."

Uchendu regards Cutlass coldly, and then stalks out of camp without a word, stopping only to collect the knotted rope.

He will travel to the closest part of the shore-line to the wreck, climb down the cliff using the rope, and then swim for the wreck (taking his armor off to do so)...

Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19.

Yes, that is essentially suicidal, and I am willing to live with the consequences, but Uchendu is not going to let an upstart who has yet to prove himself to him challenge him like that; it is an affront to his honor. No offense intended...

Survival roll(DC30) for Uchendu to find his way to the spot remembering that he won't be able to see the wreck

Then 50 swim rolls at DC20 to get there without drowning

Alternatively(and as a DM I hate to do this normally) you could look at your loot to find a simple solution.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

He has low-light vision, so he won't be completely blind.

I am aware (after prompting) that we have a Potion of Water-Breathing and a Potion of Water-Walking, but Uchendu is a bit riled-up at present, and probably would not think of that, although I appreciate the suggestion :-/

Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7.
Swim: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20.

However, I am happy for him to try, discover that it is too great a struggle, and try to make it back to shore...

...although he won't head back to camp for some time...

DM Wellard wrote:

I was confident that when i thought the waves were manageable and that we had at least a moon/starlit night so we could make use of mine and Uchendu's low light vision.

If it's doable then Natalyah is game, but if it only can be done with a great risk then she will go to the camp and wait until morning, regardless what the rest of the group does.

I had the same impression as Natalyah in that regard and agree with her, if the surf is that rough behind all those little islands then we won't be able to manage this trip until dawn.

Hearing the loud exchange Atzi rouses herself sleepily and finds that Quetza was eying her fellows warily, his trust for anyone but her was weak at best. She distracted him with a quick scratch of his neck and chin, before standing up and heading after Uchendu's retreating form.

She tries to convince Uchendu to reconsider his actions but when he strips down and attempts to swim out to the wreck anyways she is forced to stand on the beach and watch. She traces a symbol of protection in the air and gives a small prayer that he doesn't drown in the choppy waters.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Atzi, Uchendu was not jumping into the water at the camp-site; he intended to travel to the closest point to the island first - he may be stubborn, prideful, and easily annoyed, but he is not a complete idiot ;-)

At Natalyah's words, a complex series of emotions play across Uchendu's face, but with effort, he turns back to the camp, his voice full of barely controlled anger.

"Perhaps you are right, Natalyah. It would be a shame. After all, If something happened to me, how would poor Ruthoc cope? Now, if you will all excuse me, I will retire for the evening. Some of us," he scowls in Cutlass' direction, "have planning to do."

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

True, I just didn't know you were into cliff diving xD

Atzi shakes her head at the increase in conflict, and frowns at the change brought on by the newcomer. She sighed as she worked to keep herself neutral to the small conflict. "Good Luck Friend Uchendu, i'm sure your planning will be sound." She bows her head respectfully to her companion as she moves over to the fire in the middle of camp.

She starts to cut up some of the leftover snake meat and mixes in some of plants that Sasha had put together in her hunting. As she finishes putting together a slow cooking gumbo she looks over to Cutlass "What happened to the Titania, friend Cutlass?"

After Uchendu departs Kallakhan talks to the others. "Finally come to his senses, Natalyah is a true friend to Uchendu, it would seem. That is good."

Worked out interestingly heh.

You return to the campsite and spend another quiet night. The others are curious about Cutlass and slightly suspicious of him at first but his easy manner and charasmatic presence soon sets them at ease.

Come the morning you make you way down to the beach and prepare to launch the raft

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi is up bright and early, having meditated on the mysteries of this island and how it still befuddles her in some aspects. No change in spells She gathers her normal small pack and empty sack and quickly leads everyone to the beachhead where their raft awaits. She looks to the sky and tries to predict the weather for the day, she hopes to avoid a sudden rainstorm while they are searching the wreckage.

Survival take 10+7 = Roll of ~17~

Scarab Sages

After a good nights sleep Amisi is ready to go. She takes care that the group has the potions with them in case of emergency.

Natalyah eats her breakfast in her usual quiet demeanor after making sure that Uchenu hasn't snuck out of the camp in the night to investigate the wreck by himself. Then she gathers her backpack, waterskin, compass and weapons and waits for the rest of the party to get ready.

As the group reaches the shore Natalyah walks to the waterfront. She kneels and recites a prayer to Gozreh in elven. As she speaks the last word Natalayh dips her index and middle finger in the water and bring them to her forehead. Then she rises and helps to launch the raft.

"Hopefully the sea mother won't find the need to test us this day", she says to Atzi trying to predict the weather.

Weather for the next 24 hours

Bright and clear in the Morning with high temperatures from noon lasting into the early afternoon..followed by rain and a clear night. In other words just like yesterday and the day before

Everyone is in good spirits even Aerys although the lack of alchohol still affects her abilities(she effectivly has Delerium Tremens and will remain sickened until you find the cure for her)

All the NPC's have attained the hopeful status and no longer need to check morale daily

Between you you manage to get the raft through the surf although you are all soaked through by the time you do so.

Cutlass takes charge of the craft and manages to guide it through the waters of the island the rest of you paddling at his direction.

You arrive at the wreck..the stern is heavily weathered but you can just make out the name 'Tears of Grog' painted there. The wreck is low in the water and the waves wash over the deck,it's obvious that the ship will be gone soon and it is probably not worthwhile taking the risk to explore it.

You have 3 choices..Explore the wreck anyway, head back to the beach or move further along the coast and work back to camp overland

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu eyes the precarious state of the wreck, and then shrugs.

"Since we are here, we might as well investigate the wreck. I would recommend that no more than two, or possibly three, of us board it though - I cannot vouch for its structural integrity, and I would hate for it to collapse whilst we were aboard."

He pauses briefly before continuing.

"I will of course volunteer to be part of the boarding party."

After we search the wreck, I am all for continuing down the coast-line (to the East, and then South, that is), hopefully scouting any other wrecks we find, and then finding a suitable berth to allow us to cut back along the shore to our camp-site.

DM Wellard wrote:

Now i'm abit confused about the third option. I thought that the wreck was on small island seperate from the main island, and that's why we took the raft to get here. Is it possible to walk back from this point?

"I'll go", Natalyah states while studying the wreck with a hard-set expression. Then the half-elf searches the beach for something she can use as a walking stick.

As she she searches the wreck she uses the stick to carefully test the floorboards before taking each step, hoping to minimize the risk of stepping on a rotten plank and crash through the hull. Only searches the parts of the wreck not immersed in water (if there are any)

The entire trip to the wreckage Atzi shows nothing but excitement and reveling in the rough tide as they fought there way to the wreckage. But once they arrived she listened to the opinion's of her fellows and nodded in agreement with how the wreck was possibly to weak to support everyone.

Handing Natalyah the empty sack, "I shall wait here then friends, it would be best if Inkathru or Amisi go since I lack the strength to fight as well as I should" She draws out her shortspear and uses it to keep the raft steady and avoid banging against the wreckage. She looks back at them with a big smile on her dark skinned face "Besides this is great fun! And I can make sure nothing eats our raft~" With that last part she give a short but hearty laugh.

As everyone boards the ship Atzi watches Quetza as he circles above her, occasionally bombing the water and catching a rogue fish.

Scarab Sages

Amisi looks at the wreck and is glad to stay back on the raft.

"Ibetter stay here. I will keep an eye open and some spells should be able to reach the wreck.

Amisi looks a little bit afraid of the water. She had to take all her will to go that far. If needed or pushed she will join the wreck as she is light - but other vice she rather stays as she never learnt to swim in her desert homeland.

it looked to me we could at least secure the raft on some rocks close to the wreck. Didn't look much like an island to me - but that way the raft isn't drifting away. Off course if GM says the raft is in danger to get smashed up then this is a bad idea.
I'm also in agreement to go on exploring further instead of turning back.
