Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu curses, and kicks-out at the snake, trying to boot as he passes en-route to the spider...

Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

"Someone should deal with that snake!"

Did I manage to 'tag' the spider?

Scarab Sages

Amisi hears the shout from Uchendu. She hopes her magic will have some more impact on the smaller creature.

Magic Missile on the snake: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Uchendu - I will try to deal with it - but I'm not sure my magic is strong enough

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Since Atzi goes after Amisi, I'm going to change my actions from casting Flare on the spider to ----> Charm Animal on the snake (Lvl 1 spell DC 15). Hopefully it works ^_^

Atzi wrote:

Atzi goes after Amisi, but before Uchendu - which is when the snake makes its appearance. So we'll stick with the original action for now, and you can try the charm animal next round.

A burst of light appears in front of the spider's eight eyes, causing it to jerk back. Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 The pause is momentary, however, and the spider returns its attention to the quetzalcoatlus that is attacking it.

Uchendu Kybwa'ka wrote:

Sorry, my previous post had a typo (which is why I shouldn't post while hyped up on cold meds); Uchendu had to pull up short of the spider, because the snake was in his way. The rules aren't clear on whether you have to declare the target of your charge before you can take any part of the action, but I think that's the way they read - since Uchendu missed the Perception check to spot the snake, I think he's just going to lose his action this round, being about 15 feet short of the spider and adjacent to the snake.

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Well, I would argue that I can at least attempt to Overrun the snake to finish the charge - a snake does not exactly take-up a lot of room, so you should be able to jump over it ;-)

Overrun attempt: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Vs Snake CMD to pass through the snake's square as part of a charge.

Uchendu Kybwa'ka wrote:

Overrun attempt: 1d20+5 Vs Snake CMD to pass through the snake's square as part of a charge.

Fair enough. In that case...

Though the snake's sudden appearance catches Uchendu by surprise, sheer momentum carries his blade on through to the spider. Weakened already by Amisi's magic and Quetza's fangs, it has no chance against the half-elf's blade, and dies with barely a whimper.

Storian is next, then Natalyah. Amisi has already posted her Round 2 action.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Actions for Round 2~

Atzi calls Quetza back to her side as he hacks up more of the bile that fills his mouth. He obeys eying the snake warily as he comes to stand besides Atzi.

Free Action: Call animal companion to Defend: Atzi.

Quetza comes back to stand with Atzi and keeps searching around them for other unseen threats.

Atzi keeps her Scimitar out in case she needs to defend herself as she tries to calm the snake with her natural magic.

still going to try and cast Charm Animal on it. ~_^

My bad early, I missed that Thod had posted earlier instead of Amisi lol, sorry about that DM ( ^_^);

Male Human Fighter 1

Storian moves towards the snake, and aims a downward swing at its head.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 5) + 9 = 15

Natalyah curses as the arrow misses it's mark. As she prepares to draw her second arrow she sees Uchendu rushing toward the spider and the snake striking out against him. She moves to engage the snake with Storian and aims a cut against it's head. If it's still alive that is.

Move action to engage the snake (into a flank with Storian if possible), drawing my short sword on the way:
Attack roll against the snake (possible flank bonus not included): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Female Half-Orc Oracle 1

Growling in a Beastial Manner, Inkathru Moves forward and attacks the Snake

assuming the snake is still alive...

Round 2:

atk
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
dmg
1d12 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Crit confirm.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Crit dmg
2d12 + 6 ⇒ (8, 2) + 6 = 16

Inkathru wrote:

I guess it's safe to assume it's not going to be after that onslaught :)

Well my first act as GM is to declare the snake and spider well and truely demised

135 XP each.

more coming tomorrow..still havent caught up with exactly where you are on the island

So now know where you are..

Strenuous activity in the heat of the day...DC 15 fortitude checks please everyone.Uchendu can give a +2 to four off you I believe

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Muttering about giant spiders and hidden snakes, Uchendu does his best to avoid the worst of the heat...

Fort: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16.

He turns to regard the others:

"We need to keep moving. Atzi, have you seen any sign of a nest?

From memory, the following were our goals:

1)Finding Dimorphodon Egg (since we know they are in the area).
2)Finding Aerys a cure (since her alcoholism could drag down global morale).
3)Finding the Brine Demon.
4)Searching for buried treasure.
5)Finding the Nightvoice.
6)Looking for the lighthouse.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Fort Save Atzi 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Fort Save Quetza 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Atzi sheathes her blade and starts tending to Quetza, who stubbornly refuses her tending. After a few stern looks and brandishing a waterskin to wash the bile from his mouth, he finally stops his fussing so Atzi can help him. Through it all Atzi heard Uchendu's request and the moment Quetza seemed fit she got back to searching for a nest.

"I am not sure friend Uchendu they may only nest along the cliff's or more mountainous regions of the island. But I will keep my eyes open."

Correct the following if i'm off base: I'm going to take 10 on a survival check to locate a Dimorphodon nest which would be a total survival check of 16. I didn't know if survival or knowledge nature would be best. So I decided to use survival because of its relationship with Tracking.

And we're back on track \o/

Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 (and so are my abyssmal dice rolls)

"Puhett! Will this fiendlish weather ever stop?", Natalyah thinks to herself as she collapses near a tree. She grunts slightly as Uchendu incourages the group to keep moving. She gathers her gear and prepares herself to keep moving, trying her best to hide her fatigue from the others. During the trek she tries to assist Atzi in finding a dimorphodon nest.

Aid other Survival check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Remember that when fatigued your slowed to half speed.

Anyone else want to chip in on the tracking roll?

Female Half-Orc Oracle 1

I'll take the +2, if thats ok

Fort check
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Despite Her Love of Fire, and all things hot, Inkatharu Seems to Wither in the heat.

" Phew, This jungle is saping my Strength"

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

I warned them that they needed to keep hydrated in the jungle; you lose a lot of fluid, quickly; but would they listen to me? Noooo....

Keeping a concerned eye on his colleagues, Uchendu does his best to try to find a Dimorphodon nest...

Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19.

Male Human Fighter 1

Fort Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Storian is breathing quite heavily now, and sweating profusely.

"Damned heat..." he grumbles, looking for somewhere in the shade to take a quick breather; looking around for fruit that may contain some kind of juice.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Correction for my above post, Quetza's Fort save is only +3, still a pass (+21) but I messed up so I thought I would at least correct myself ^^;;; my bad.

If Storian takes Uchendu's +2 for his fort save he won't be fatigued =).

Scarab Sages

Amisi feels the warm air and the heat. For too long she has been idle and so she has to get used to moving again.

Fortitude check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Amisi takes a +2 for the fort if she can - already added

Having taken the advice from Uchendu - Amisi just manages to keep the neat from sapping all her power away.

Seems I got lucky here.

Rolling for non leathal damage from the fatigue: 1d4 ⇒ 3

When i was scanning the thread i noticed that you can make a DC15 survival check to get a +2 bonus to your roll, and for every one point you exceed the DC you can give a +2 bonus to an ally. Does that still apply, Wellard? If we can get two characters to make that DC we can also save Inkathru from fatigue.

Carpy DM wrote:

EDIT: I also need a Fortitude save, DC 15; characters wearing heavy armor take a -4 penalty to this save. If you fail, you take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage and are fatigued. You may first make a Survival check, DC 15, to grant yourself a +2 bonus on the Fortitude save, and grant the same bonus to any other character for every point by which you exceed the DC 15.

Survival check for a bonus to the fort save (and hopefully be able to grant Inkathru with a bonus) if possible:

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

+2 to 5 people \o/

Scarab Sages

Amisi drinks a lot of water to keep her hydrated - but it seems to her it doesn't help much. Luckily she seems to be wearing much lighter clothes.

Natalyah - yes - I think we already used the +2 in the past and I had assumed this was what Uchendu's roll was for - but re-reading it I'm not that sure.
Stacking - I don't think that works. You only get the +2 once.
Amisi does wear hot weather outfit. She gets the +2 automatically - but she isn't getting an extra from survival checks from other. Yeah - I'm also only slowly get back into my character and missed the Outfit. She has a few spare ones. 2Wellard - please assume during the days she will be wearing the hot weather outfit while she can always change to more warm clothes at night.
Also looking at Inka's roll - seems she already added the +2 for her. So I don't think there is anything we can do for her now. I don't know resist elements yet - that could be useful but would be a drain on spells if cast on everyone.

Amisi wrote:

Ah, shoot. But that does makes sense that you can only get one assist. Would be abit silly with a whole group assisting each other back and forward :)

Thanks I missed that but I was speed reading the thread..survival rolls still apply but as mentioned above you cant stack them.

The trackers confer and by looking at spoor and the flight patterns of the dimorphodons they can see in the distance..they think there might be a nest less than a mile south of your current position.

Scarab Sages

Amisi turns to the others:

"if there are adults alive, then I can try to sleep them. We have up to 2 tries. We should try to find some egg replacements. Some round stones or similar. "

Knowledge nature check to get an idea of size of eggs 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

You easily find some suitable stones to act as egg replacements

Male Human Fighter 1

In that case, if there is a +2 available, I'll go ahead and take it.

Storian mostly keeps an eye out for any other nasties that may otherwise sneak up on them, his blade still in his hands just in case. He takes a deep swig from his water skin, hoping that there won't be any surprises - it's far too hot for that kind of exertion.

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Atzi looks at the stones, she turns them over and over in her hands as she tries to imagine how the exchange will go. Feeling the heat of the day bearing down on her, she takes a quick drink from her waterskin to stave off dehydration. After she caps her waterskin she sighs as she says. "If we encounter them, I may be able to calm them without any need for spells. But since our encounters with what dwells in this jungle have all ended sadly then it will be nice for you to be ready as well Amisi. I don't like wasting our strength when something greater may loom nearby."

She looks over everyone nearby and frowns at seeing at least half their number seemed to be suffering from fatigue. With a determined look she stands, sheathing her scimitar and switching to her short-spear instead.

"Let us hurry and be done with this, so we may return to our camp before nightfall. Then everyone may recover for our next attempt tomorrow."

Turning to Quetza she asks him to Seek ahead of them and as he takes off back into the air she smiles.

Natalyah spends the remaining trek in silence, seeming even more dour than before. Once and again she gestures with her hand pointing out possible trails and obstacles, sometimes together with a hushed "Look out" or "There" but never anything close to a longer sentence.

Amisi wrote:

"Let us hurry and be done with this, so we may return to our camp before nightfall. Then everyone may recover for our next attempt tomorrow."

"Whatever, just hurry up so we can make it back to camp before nightfall", Natalyah says from the background in a stale tone. The fact that this is more than she has said during the whole hike hints that, even though Natalyah isn't keen at all on this egg grabbing endeavour, Amisi's and Atzi's precautions not to harm the animals is appreciated.

You make your way through the jungle slowly until you find what appears to be the nest. The good news is that only a single Dimorphodon seems to be in residence..the bad news is that the nest is up on a rocky outcrop some 50 feet above your heads

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Staring up at the cliffside Atzi frowns, Of course, the land chose my greatest weakness to test me.... She looks around at the surrounding jungle for a sizable tree nearby or some safer way to reach the nest.

"This shall be a difficult task to accomplish, especially if we get driven off the cliff face and fall..." She continues assessing the area around them as she thinks on the task before them.

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 She tries to think on what types of prey the Dimorphodon prefer or some way to lure it out so she can handle it somewhere closer to the ground.

Natalyah scans the cliffside and the sky to make sure there aren't any other dangers except for the Dimorphodon.

Perception check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

"How close do you have to be to calm it enough to let us leave with an egg?", Natalyah asks Atzi while sizing up the rock wall.

@DM: is it possible for Natalyah to estimate a climb DC for getting up to the nest?

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Natalyah's sudden question causes Atzi to snap out of her wandering thoughts. Composing herself as she thinks about how best to answer, but she finds herself lacking a good answer and frowns again. "To be honest I have always been a stones throw away, maybe within ten paces at most but beyond that and I can't keep their attention."

Atzi tests the hand holds for the first couple of feet to gauge how difficult the climb would be. Making sure to keep close to the ground just in case.
Climb Check: Take 10 (-1 Str)= 9 (Ya she stinks at climbing lol! Some druid I am :P)

Natalyah turns to Amisi. "How about you then? How close do you have to be to put it to sleep? And how long can you keep it sedated?", she asks without much enthusiasm.

Scarab Sages

"I would guess I could put it asleep up to nearly twice the height it is - provided I'm on the bottom of the cliff and I can see the nest.
It will last for approximate one minute. Not sure that is long enough. It depends how fast someone can climb."

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu raises an eyebrow.

"Well, as long as you can put it to sleep, climbing up to the nest should not be too much of a problem - I have 100' of rope and a grappling hook, after all..."

Scarab Sages

Amisi looks up at the nest. She sends a short prayer to Shelyn and readies herself to cast a sleep spell as soon as the climbers are ready.

"I will cast as soon as you are ready. Someone should be on watch to check if I'm successful. Take your time - I can only try twice."

Sleep spell readied action - DC 16.

Amisi has a readied action - this means once someone here posts he feels he/the group is ready to climb up, she will cast her first sleep spell. I will leave it up to you if a single person climbs up or multiple ones - if you take off armour first, etc. I left it as a readied action to allow anyone here to trigger it - including the GM if he feels the action of the characters deserve a trigger.
DM Wellard - I leave the save to you.

Backup: I do have a second sleep spell memorized - in case the beast is making it's saving throw. You will have one minute total time - provided the first spell works I can do a second one while you are on the way down. But better try to get it all done in 1 minute.

Uchendu Kybwa'ka wrote:

"You can't throw that up there, you might hit the nest!", Natalyah snaps irritably with the heat getting the better of her.

Natalyah takes a moment to study the creature on the rock face, as if trying to device a plan.

@DM is it possible for Natalyah do make a Knowledge (nature) check to come up with some way to lure the Dimorphodon within range for Atzi to charm it? Dice roll in that case: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

[ooc]Although i'll wait with this part until i hear if Natalyah can estimate the difficulty of climbing up to the nest.
"I can climb up there.". She turns to Atzi. "Just give me the stones.", she says as she begins to remove her armor.
End of "If Natalyah can determine the difficulty part"

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

Hopping down after several feeble attempts to maintain a hold and climb the cliff face. Atzi turns with a frown on her face as Natalyah volunteers herself for the dangerous task of climbing the cliff face. She hands over the egg shaped stones, and says "If I wasn't so poor at climbing I would do this myself but I'm not sure it would be wise to be picking my broken pieces off the ground when I fell, perhaps you can teach me once we have time. But for now, be careful friend and I will try and keep you safe if I can." When Natalyah is just about ready to start her climb, Atzi will offer her a fresh waterskin.

Yeah I made some check as well, I was hoping there was another way to bring it out of the nest other then maybe making a fire and sending some smoke up its way. But with it being like 50-60ft above us the smoke probably wouldn't reach it or be very effective =P.

Remember those who are fatigued are at -2 on str and dex..so -1 on any skills involving those stats..also it's still in the heat of the day so if a fatigued character climbs up to the nest they will be exhausted when they get there..this adventure makes you realise how tough adventuring in the tropics really is.

Strength roll from Uchendu to get the grapple up to the required height please. The Dc is 20..if you need more than 3 tries to get it attached..then I want a fortitude save DC15

Male Half-Elf Oracle (Juju) 5

Uchendu will cast Guidance on himself before each swing of the grappling hook.

Str check: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10.

With his first attempt, Uchendu misjudges the distance, and the grappling hook fails to attain the correct height.

Str check: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 1 = 15.

His second swing makes it to near the nest, but does not lodge properly, and a sharp pull causes the grappling hook to dislodge.

Str check: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25.

His third try is right on the money, as the hook flies effortlessly through the air, lodging firmly in a convenient cranny.

Sweating profusely, Uchendu takes a few moments to drench himself with Create Water to stop himself becoming fatigued.

"Right. That should hold. Now we just need to get up there..."

Aha, for some reason i had got it into my head that it was a one time thing and we waited abit for the temperature to cool down. Then i'd like to retcon Natalyah's actions and just remove this part of my previous post:

Female / Female Human: Jambala Jaeg Descendent) and Deinonychus Saurian Shaman LVL 4

With the rope in place Atzi smiles, climbing Uchendu's knotted rope makes things very easy. She bows her head to Natalyah and Inkathru as she moves past them and takes hold of the rope. "I hope today the spirits will assist me in making this end without the shedding of blood. Amisi be ready because if I fail to subdue the creature you may have to strike both of us with your magic, because once that Dimorphodon is angered... I won't..." She purposefully stops herself from finishing the grave thought and instead gives a brief flash of a smile as she starts climbing up the rope. Between hand holds she looks to see if Quetza is nearby, once she knows where he is she continues to climb slowly up the rope.

Taking 10 (-1 Str) on Climb check. = 9 for beating the DC, she is moving normal speed and avoiding too much haste in case the Dimorphodon happens to notice. Shes trying not to startle it.

Its a rough surface not entirely vertical so the normal DC is 10 the rope makes it a DC 5 so Atzi is able to climb easily finding many places to put her feet.
