... Wait, TBC is Divinitus?

... There goes a LOT of faith I have in this game and DM. He never even got round to replying to my PMs, let alone actually creating the crunch for the solo game he agreed to run for me.

*Carefully neutral expression* There's a reason my characters would also work as NPCs in the games I'm running. I've had... experiences... with these not panning out, including the original Echoes of the Sephira. It's part of why I run them myself, too, and am determined to be a GM that doesn't disappear.

Also, Oyzar, I kind of cheat - I use Hero Lab, and that helps me create complicated characters in a short amount of time. XD ...Short being relative - I must've spent eight hours finding that pic and then hammering all of my ideas together into a workable whole. Still, I like making characters, and it was a fun way to spend some of my free time.

Rednal wrote:

Honestly, at times I swear I have more fun putting together characters than actually playing them...

I do hope I get into one of your games one day Rednal, regardless of what happens with this one. You sound like an awesome GM.

You didn't notice? There was a little huff around page 3 or something I think :P

But yeah, if I did not like to build characters and tinker with them, I don't think I would have dared to apply. As it is, best to hunker down and cross your fingers/hold your thumbs/whatever you do for luck.

*glances at his own half-finished story and notes* and maybe get back to work :P

Eeeeeyup. XD

Worst-case scenario, I might see who here is A) Active, and B) A GM in their own right, and offer a trade where I'll run a solo game for them if they run one for me. I don't know which of my characters I'd rather use (I'unno, maybe both in different games? XD), but I keep that as an option in things like this. *Coughs* I'm a bit of a do-it-myselfer that way, given... history.

Hey I remember that game! I was in it as well :) (well, the other table :/)

Man that was a while ago :)
I have had an idea after seeing these last couple of recruitment go up (I am also a glutton for character creation) that I think a lot of people would enjoy.
At some point when I have more time, I am going to set up a recruitment of my own with a title going something like: High Powered Gestalt Recruitment. Character Creation ONLY!

The idea would be that I would create the initial recruitment thread and be the GM to police it but with the expressed intent that I would not be running a game with the characters afterwards. I would then open up the Gameplay thread for everyone who had completed their characters to have fun and mess around with them. There would be no story or plotline, if Player A had an Uber Necromancer and wanted to raze a town and build up his army, then Player B could throw up a mock town for him. Player C could then come in with his Paladin Hero and fight against Player A's horde.

The entire thread would just be character creation with the gameplay tab opened up so that the players could do whatever they wanted in it and with each other, but driven entirely by themselves. I have never GMed before, so i would NOT be the one creating a story or anything :)
Just character creation.

What do you guys think of that? Any other hopeless character generators out there that would like this idea?
Oh ya, I also do the entire character by hand, and i am VERY meticulous >.>

While I do enjoy creating characters, it is much more fun to get to use them afterwards. I don't think I would create a character if I had no hope of getting to use it in a game. Here is what I've got going so far for this game, though I'll put further tinkering with it on hold until Divinitus shows up again.

It's telling me to ask for permission. XD I think we need a proper "view" link.

Oh right, fixed it now. The formatting won't be pretty as it's formatted for forum-alias though...

Eh, I see BB Code all the time, including in my own stuff. XD It's not what I'd call a problem.

First Thought: Narwhal!

Second Thought: Eldtrich Goodling?

Third Thought: You'll have to write a lot to adequately explain this character's existence. XD

Fourth Thought: CONSIDERABLY more min-maxed than my own characters, to the point they probably shouldn't be in the same game.

Fifth Thought: The GM did ban templates that are just straight stat bonuses... and Animal Lord is basically that, but with even more stuff added on top. As a general rule, templates offering lots of ability score bonuses - and this one does - tend to be significantly more powerful than those that don't. You miiiiiight not be approved with that one unless you got specific permission to use it.

Yeah, there's so many different levels and dips and other things, I can't even really tell what is going on.

And, seriously? Narwhal?
That's a bit much, even for this game.

I felt quite "hit" by your comment earlier about "intentionally trying to break things".... :/ The character can cast simulacrum without material components (once per day) as a standard action. It can also cast Geas as a standard action. That's before getting to the save stuff (I'll probably switch casting stat to constitution and swap gear/level up ability scores around to end up with 33 con), which'll come in at 30+level. Though I do feel that is practically required at this powerlevel if you want to use effects targeting saves as the GM did say the enemies would have saves in the mid 20ies or above. As for Animal Lord (Narwhal) I did get that oked. In fact I settled on that after a discussion with the GM about different options. As there are no other submissions really focusing on offensive spells I think it should be able to work in games with most of the other submitted characters though.

Fluff so far is that the mother turned into a shapeshifter through something similar to the Inuit legend about them. Father is Deep Sashelas who was naturally drawn to a beautiful shapeshifter swimming through his realm and him being who he is, he couldn't keep his paws to himself and seduced her. Madness domain is basically inherited from his mother's "drowning". Her rage/abberation aspect ties into the very same thing. Liberation and Travel is due to her desire to travel around and explore all of creation and to learn new things (lore mystery), not just the deep seas like her father, but also other planes (heavens mystery) and to fight for freedom and against oppression wherever she goes. Her divine hertiage fuels er wanderlust to incredibly heights, making her much faster than normal for a human.

I feel like it actually do somewhat fit together, at least it did in my head. Feel free to arrest things that are jarring though and I'll see if I can fix it. Hard to cram a lifetime of experience adventuring into a short backstory though.

@Animal Lord template - Some others have mentioned a power concern but I'll try and add something different.

The template doesn't really work (for 'normal' people ...)!

As an Inherited Template it should be applied before class levels or such stuff, so it is really hard for anyone to have 10 HD and be a Humanoid (except giants and stuff).

But the example is a human ranger ...

Honestly, I'd just chalk that up to someone not writing the template correctly :P

@Rage Prophet - 'Typically' the sources I have on Gestalt rules (d20 SRD) quotes that mixed class PrCs are disallowed (such as the Arcane Trickster, Eldritch Knight and presumably the Rage Prophet as well).

Now, since that is more along the lines of recommendation rather then rule (but the whole thing is one big optional pile) so I'd double check with Divinitus first (once/if he returns).

@Narwhal - narwhals narwhals swimming in the ocean ... I must go and listen to that song now!

oyzar wrote:

Erp. This is very true - writing backstories for high level characters sometimes feel like writing a small novel just to fit all the sensible stuff. Triply so for tristalts, almost.

Also - Your belt is listed as Con+5 which I think is an error, since those things aren't that common :P

@Rage Prophet: Honestly that's not really a dual progression class at all. It got nothing to boost the martial side of things other than letting it scale rage powers (and d10 hit die), but since I don't even have any of that I'm not using that side of things at all. An alternate rule I've seen more commonly used is that you must qualify fully for the prestige class off one side of the stalt and I am doing that.

The belt is correct, a custom ordered belt of con +5 :p, though as I commented about above, I'll switch that belt out for a +6 con +2 dex once I get back to fixing things.

This got a lot more comments than I thought it would.

Another point about powerlevel is that Divinitus did say we would be fighting CR 40+ enemies, so I was aiming to be able to contribute against that.

@bigrig: It's pretty straightforward eldritch godling/warder/rage prophet tristalt with a single level dip in monk. The templates just makes where I'm taking the different levels a bit weird.

@Rage Prophet - It progresses more class features then the Eldritch Knight. But yeah, its an murky situation (which is why I poked at it!).

@Custom Magic Items - I'm not sure but I *think* the intent was for us to merge existing items, not create new ones (since they are absurdly easy to break, with Path of War stuff especially!). But not sure on that point either.

@Fort Save - I'm not sure how the godling stuff is worded, but be ware of paizo's "no same stat more then once to anything" faq. At the moment, it looks like con is added twice.

@AC - If you are really looking to push it, get a wand of "Nerid's Grace" or whatever the spell is called - it adds Cha to your AC as well.

Edit: @More comments - It's because it is something to do while trying to decide how much effort to put in ones own build until one knows if Div is coming back or not. Sorta channelling all that uncertain hype-energy somewhere.

Like someone putting down a delicious steak at the table when you are starving.

Remember, he did say "eventually", as well as saying (or hinting, at least) that we will be going to 20th level, mythic, and even possible demigod status.

Pretty sure he didn't mean right out of the gate.

Adds 4 ability scores to AC, casting stat to saves, movement speeds off the charts, four movement types, 6 attacks each round at full attack bonus (against each opponent), lowest stat is 24, full casting (including Godling brokenness), spell DCs in the 37+ range (double casting stat on them), uses a hybrid prc. Yeah, seems balanced.

Narwhal Quickling, with 8 classes.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

I am still working on my (3) submission fluff and just for the narwhal and Lessah ... :-)

The Narwhal Theme Song

Hello everyone! I will post later today, at some point. Had a nasty holiday illness that I have been getting over. Sorry about not posting before now to let everyone know. I have pictures of my medication, for those who need proof.

That does sound a tad bit extreme, but I can only speak for me. The important part is that you are here : )

And sorry to hear about your sickness, that is a sucky present to get ...

Holiday colds: the gift that keeps on giving, unfortunately. My head is still congested a bit, but I was informed by a few people that the natives were getting a bit restless, figuratively speaking, so I figured that I would at least post this and make a substantial post in about an hour or so after I finish cooking and eating breakfast despite not feeling completely well today.

As for the concept of silly characters, nothing is too silly for Planescape. There are, after all, things like senile old Mimir skulls that dispense Alice in Wonderland-style pearls of wisdom while cackling madly, chaste succubus nuns, planar beatniks, and other such things in Planescape.

@Peter Stewart: I don't expect her martial skills to ever amount for much, she probably doesn't have great enough hit bonuses to hit bosses except on a natural 20. 6 attacks is just what the maneuver does, though I need to recover it if I want to use it more than once. I already explained why this kind of save DC is needed. Only having the enemies fail on a natural one wouldn't be very fun.

@Lessah: I'm pretty sure the intention is to add con twice, the text for Legendary beauty IV is included.

@GM TBC: My condolences about your illness. I hope you get better soon.

@Con - Yeah, the intent is rather clear. The point is that the paizo errata on the topic (of adding the same stat more then once) says that it doesn't work by the (errata-d) rules.

Which is why I thought I'd point it out so that the conflict between the class ability and the paizo errata can be resolved : )

CR: Same as the base creature or the base animal (whichever is higher) +2.

A human is CR = 0. So the Animal lord will more often than not take the CR of the animal. In this case, the animal is a CR 3 Narwhal. Therefore, the Template is 5 Cr, which translate to 7.5 LA.

Seriously, if they didn't work that way. I probably would of gone Tyrannosaurs Animal Lord for my character, or some type of dino at least. But, that's 11 CR, or 16.5 LA... which I don't have.

whew, good to hear back from you!

HP, as per usual, is maximum per HD. I find rolling for HP is NOT a fun process and I like eliminating variables from my campaigns that are unnecessary anyway.

Fighters get Stamina for free. Remember my caveat about keeping track of everything on your sheet regarding this.

While pre-game crafting is banned, it is allowed in-game. Trust me when I say that there is no reason to not take it if you want to use it at some point. While I will not spoil things for you regarding campaign information, early on you get an item that makes crafting SO much better. I wouldn't want you to expect to be able to do it before that, given how the beginning of the campaign takes place on a semi-constructed timeline, but after the first 'scenario' and acquisition of said item-creation-helping-equipment, I see no issues with it.

Gavmania, the shield comment was mainly because the archetype emulates Captain America and that was the entire flavor of it. A 42 AC is not too high. My Earth Elemental caster-type character in one of my playtests had a consistent AC of 46 and was not broken. AC does not protect you from spells.

Fury of the Tempest, Bigrig107 and Lessa are right regarding how polymorph subschool effects work. There is no need for Improved Critical, given your template's ability.

Oyzar, what year the campaign is set in depends entirely on what world you are from (To give you an example, there is a fairly large calender difference between Eberron and Toril's world,) and, as such, I would need specifics on your world before I could give you an accurate view of what year it is. I am ruling that constructs do not need to understand the language you are using to obey, because your bloodline is called IMPOSSIBLE after all (And it would be a dumb restriction to have, given that it would essentially void your ability with 99% of the applicable effects!). Orc-Bloodline Sorcerors may pick up Amplified Rage, as can any other character who has a Rage ability that is not a Barbarian (Who obviously can anyway,).

Monkeygod, Sneak Attack and Studied Strike both stack. Also, I playtested with the feat tax in place, which prevents some issues that could arise by NOT having it be applicable. Given the number of feats everyone has, removing the standard feat tax could allow for everyone to take all the 'power feats'. Besides, 20+ feats SHOULD be enough for any character.

Bigrig107, just select the four skills from your outsider class from the ones that the Osyluth has points in. As for SR questions, X+CR becomes X+(Level*.67, rounded up,), since CR is 1.5 times itself in levels, meaning that the level equivalent is 2/3. Make sense? ALL languages have a place in Planescape. Common is, quite obviously, the most common, followed by the various outsider and elemental languages. The Desert Giant seems cool as well, although Sarenrae is a no-go, given the D&D multiverse being the setting (The only thing that I scavenged from Golarion is the First World and, given that I don't want genre-mixing, may substitute in the Feywild instead as the Plane of Faerie,). Pelor is the primary sun god in D&D.

Rynjin, getting Unluck Aura is simple: play a Pugwampi! If nothing else, you would make a fine plaything for Rysky! Hope you get the reference, of course. I am quite liberal in allowing PCs to refluff abilities, so long as they make sense.

Rednal, so far you are the first to extensively use Sigil-speak, apart from myself! Very nice... it brings a level of nostalgia to the recruitment.

@Gm TBC: I'm strongly considering giving up on my submission given the overwhelming amount of negative feedback I've gotten so far despite having put several days worth of work into it already. It seems like everyone hates my character and playing in a game where everyone hates you is not so much fun. Though I do think your game would be really fun to participate in. Is my character something you could see having in your game? I did suggest banning Eldritch Godling for a reason... I haven't really seen any other offensive caster submissions and think some variety would be nice, but it's your call. A clarification on what the CR of Animal Lord is would also be nice (2 or 5?)

A question about the feats.

If I'm playing a fighter, I get their bonus feats every even level, and I don't get the feats your giving me every even level, correct? Am I to understand that correctly?

Plus, I wouldn't say removing the standard feat tax would allow for everyone to take all the 'power feats'. For example, I would love to be able to take Combat Stamina, or Improved Monster Lore. Not to mention for my 20 RP, I took Nimble Attacks in order to reduce the feat taxes. But if I had that freed up, I could take more interests traits, such as Stubborn or Vestigial Wings!

Also, you didn't answer the question of Nondetection working on True Sight or not.

I think I will have my jedi/sith lord concept up today. Crunch anyways. Rednal is a great GM. I need to get into another one of his games as well, but I have phoned in my last couple submissions for his stuff. We are at a year and a half in the forgotten gods game. XD.

Hmm quick question then do Kineticist qualify for item creation feats? I am thinking that they do not but need to help when crafting the very few kineticist items.

I would like to clarify this point. I do not hate your character - actually, just reading their sheet made me laugh in a good way. As someone mentioned up above, you can't make stuff like that up, and I'm actually impressed by how much thought and effort you put into it. I've put waaaaaaaay too much effort into my own characters to not recognize the same thing in others. XD

I think it would be more appropriate to say I am mildly concerned - it's not that the character itself is bad, but I feel like it might be... significantly more optimized than most other submissions. Optimization itself isn't bad, either - but if one character is far more optimized than everyone else's, it can kind of unbalance things as they do all the work and everyone else watches because they can't keep up. Ideally, characters in the game will have roughly similar levels of optimization - maybe specializing in different fields, sure, but around the same range. Admittedly, in a game like this, it's hard to figure out what an appropriate level would be when you're making the character. XD; So I'm not blaming you for your ideas, either. We're all just kind of tossing out ideas right now.

Rendal pretty much sums things up.

Thank you Rednal, that does make me feel a lot better. I got some ideas for how to scale back the character. Trading the bloodrager and monk level for 2 barbarian levels would cost me 3 feats and lose me Wis to AC and cost a swift action pretty much every round as well as ~140 effective HP.

HP is actually one thing I'm worried about. Everyone at this level can put out massive amounts of damage. We will all be rather squishy. It might work against the rocket tag effect a bit if our enemies have a bit less offensive power, but massively more HP (several thousand?). Just an idea I had though.

Seems like everyone i know got hit by illness this christmas. I was fortunate to only get added congestion, usually i get it the worst but this christmas i got it the least out of my wife, friends and coworkers.

@Oyzar: I think the biggest concern - to me, and I'm not the GM, so this is just my opinion - is the Animal Lord template. Broadly speaking, ability points are one of the major deciding factors in how powerful a character is, and that template gave you a looooooot of ability points. It's easy to lose track in a recruitment like this, but basically, it makes you a 25 point buy character in a game where everyone else is a 10. Swapping that out would probably be enough to get you to an optimization level closer to everyone else's, and I think you'd still be at a level appropriate for the game. ^^ If you like the theme, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to keep THAT much, at least. (Flavor it as part of your Godling nature?)

Divinitus, thanks for the update, sorry you've been under the weather!

Regarding power levels, I can sympathize with being unsure how much to optimize, especially when monster levels, templates, and gestalt give so much potential power range.

I think Divinitus' decision to use CR *1.5 helps a bit there. In the end, perhaps in a game like this we all should get the DMs guidance on power level. Clara's crunch isn't quite ready to share yet but with nothing to raise her stats and having three classes with three different main stats, I'm certainly a bit nervous about keeping up in at least some arena.

As someone who values a good game for all players (but also enjoys building optimized characters) I tend to offer that (at the beginning or after things get underway) if my character could use a nerf then I invite the DM to do so.

Oyzar, as far as specific character thoughts, I love the idea of a bipedal narwhal. If you're excited about that aspect I encourage you to find a way to do so. One option that tones down the power is to use the manimal template. Another would be a custom 20 pt race.

All that said...we should follow Divinitus's lead here.

*Raises hand*

In fairness, Mariel's an illusionist, so some of her defenses aren't as... numerically apparent.

(And actually, mechanical issues are why I insist, in my own gestalt games, that people build for diversity instead of power. I really DO prefer building for flavor more than anything else. XD Which is personal preference, of course - different people like different things, and no preferences are bad, just not always suitable for the same game. And the GM decides the range of preferences.)

*Nods*

I'm not saying that either of our builds are good or bad - for all I know, I'm not optimized enough. XD I just figure that whatever the level of optimization ends up being, we'll probably want to have all characters within the same general range... and the sooner we know what that range is, the easier it will be for everyone to make characters that match.

I likely wont be optimized enough, but i know i will have a good time if selected. Sometimes you have to make your own fun.

I'm just over here, trying to create a poison all the things PC. I don't know if he'll be hella optimized or not, but he'll be fun, have lots of neat little tricks, and all the poisons.

Plus, be hella good at filling the skill monkey role.

Hmm. Pelor is even closer to what I want from a deity than Saranrae is.

I think I'll have him come from the Bright Desert in the Flanaess.
It's all desert, and "manscorpions", dune stalkers, and, now, Desert Giants.

Probably will have his tribe already worship Pelor, but in a much, much more martial aspect than he truly is.
Probably just a miscommunication between whoever introduced Pelor to them and the giants.

Would it be possible to treat scimitars as Pelor's favored weapon, to display the difference between Pelor and the giants' Pelor?
If not, that's fine. I'll just have him use the scimitars as a "tribal tradition".
