I made a custom race based on what I remembered the Saru to be in Living Jungle. He is a 20 point custom race (you mentioned that number before).

Yep. They were originally 3.0, but updated to 3.5 in the web enhancement to the Player's guide to Faerun. CR 8, so 12 levels in your arrangement. After all, why simply use magic when you can be made of pure magic. Thus the warlock.

you can just buy an intelligent weapon with starting wealth, if the GM allows it. The prices are on the PFSRD.

@GM: good call on both leadership and pregame crafting.

Pregame casting is kinda silly when you got an ability that reduces the cost by 95% (like Eldritch Godling's Artificer I)

No, you pay 95% of the cost, you don't reduce it by 95%.

So a 1000gp ring would cost you 950gp, not 50gp.

Just to keep everyone in the proverbial loop, I will be going to my girlfriend's house today and staying until tomorrow evening. My posting will likely be much scarcer than usual, but I will try to post at least once or twice until I get back around 6:00 EST tomorrow. Post whatever questions you have and I will try to answer them.

Cartmanbeck, as was stated upthread, and probably lost in the walls of text I put up, I plan on allowing a week for people to post interest, then allowing 1-2 weeks for people to finish, although I may allow more time since the holiday season has people running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Oyzar, sorry about that! I thought that trading move for swift actions was a thing anyway? Or is it just so commonplace that I have just been assuming that it is the normal procedure for things? As for the Moment of Clarity/Mad Magic questions, you may pick one of those options. Regarding Golarion, I would prefer to keep Golarion out of the picture, so as not to disturb the nostalgia and to avoid the 'does Asmodeus=Asmodeus?' question, which no matter the answer, raises more questions.

Drbuzzard, ah okay. That sounds fine!

Philo Pharynx, I used to love messing with PCs using the Sharn's Hex Portals! And I realize that I forgot to answer your question about the Warlock updates. The Warlock was updated some time ago. I will PM you the updated version at some point.

Oh...actually. Does Asmodeus=Asmodeus?

I'm planning on going full Golarion-Asmodeus flavor, so it's important to me.

I'm considering a half-dragon nymph. I'd probably be a sorcerer//warlord for the rest of it.

Bigrig107, Asmodeus' flavor is pretty consistent across the settings. I was mostly just saying that so it doesn't raise questions like 'is Asmodeus in X the same as the one in Y', 'if he is, why do all deities not cross realities', and several other questions that I would rather not answer.

So I was looking around at the templates last night and found this one. To my sleep deprived mind, an off-duty Herald of War seemed like a somewhat funny concept ('Shouldn't you be out murdering cities and burning lands?' 'Nah, the apocalypse -' *looks at timepiece* '-it's not schedualed until another two weeks!').

It would probably mean changing back to a normal two-legged race though, so it clashes a bit with the drider idea.

But - is the template one you feel comfortable with =)?

So I found Animal Lord and think it is a cool idea that could work with my character. The ability score boosts it offers is probably higher than what you could otherwise get for that CR though (It isn't anywhere as bad as synthesist, but it doesn't cost 14 levels either). I'm not familiar with all the animal stats in pathfinder, so it would be a bit work to go through the candidates to find the one appealing to me the most, so if you are going to ban it, it would be nice to know in advance. I should probably go with the "if it is too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true, eh?".

^I've always wanted to make a character with that template myself. I could do without the stat boosts, IDGAF.

Not really sure on concept. I find Forgotten Realms characters hard to conceptualize since I know little about the setting (I usually start with an ethnicity/nationality and work from there).

Are the Planes roughly similar? Elemental, Hell, Abyss, Nirvana, etc.?

Forgotten Realms cosmology is a bit different.

However, since this is a Planescape setting the cosmology goes a little crazy : )

The premise of Planescape is basically a great mixture of things with Sigil, the City of Doors, sitting at the centre of the multiverse acting as a hub.

Going by my knowledge of 3.5 cosmology I'd say any of the unnamed planes (Elemental, Astral ect) are pretty similar to the Golarion ones (with a few wizard of the coast IP monsters added :P) but the named ones differ a bit more.

Any specific traits/cultures you were looking for?

If you look at the cosmology for Planescape (second link above) and go down to the lower area you will see the disc looking thing with Sigil in the middle that is the Outlands. All the major aligned planes are located along the edges of the outlands with good planes to the top, lawful to the left, chaotic to the right and evil on the bottom.

So Elysium ~= Nirvana, Baator ~= Hell and the Abyss is well the Abyss :P

Nothing particular right now. Just "shopping".

A culture heavy on dueling could be interesting as a Soulknife. Either the "gentlemanly" sort or a more savage kind, works either way.

The former fits the image I have in my head better though. I'm picturing a military sort, perhaps a noble officer.

I'm kinda light on material from the various D&D settings as well. I'm looking for deities I guess, that'll probably be the starting point for my character and I'll go from there. What are the "coolest" dieties in the setting? If animal lord is allowed I guess having something to go well with that would be nice.

Excellent. That seems fair on graveknights. This graveknight's overlord Ubergraveknight who was controlling him was destroyed. He wandered for a while blah blah blah until someone took notice and offered him another job. He completed many missions to dangerous for mere mortals.

That's the gist of my idea for now.

@Rynjin - Hmm. I can't think of any duelling cultures (to the extent of the Aldori) in the Forgotten Realms at the moment (but there probably are - considering the vast wealth of stuff written on it :P).

The Rashemi fits with the 'savage' but honourable warrior culture vibe but has a lot of fey and witch-y stuff rolled in. Similar to the Skald and Irrisen of Golarion.

The city of Waterdeep is among the most cosmopolitan in the Forgotten Realms and hosts a wealth of adventury stuff. An officer/noble with a gentleman vibe would fit right in. And as a bonus, it is the scene for many pre-written adventures and games so if you feel like digging there is plenty to find :P

Cormyr has a more 'feudal fantasy' vibe with knights and such, with a developed navy. Both should provide ample opportunity for a more refined warrior.

Note: The Spellplague is something that were added after 3.5 and is not part of this campaign if I understood right. It took place 1385 DR so any information taking place after that is probably inaccurate.

Note2: This is only from the Forgotten Realms setting, there are plenty of other worlds in planescape : )

OK, I've been having a look at templates for my Shield guardian bodyguard.

I am considering the half-celestial and augmented templates (half celestial would mark him out as someone special, worth investing in and augmented makes sense from a high magic background who wants a powerful defender), however I am aware that this may cause some concerns re: stat increases. Is there a limit to how high you will allow stat increases to go? I can work within the parameters you set so as not to make him too unbalanced.

Also I have decided to go with Magus (kensai) instead of Arcanist (It gives several nice bonuses to Initiative, AC, etc. which I feel would be better suited to a Bodyguard, while still allowing some access to spells).

So the basic story is that he was born a priveliged slave, raised as a shield bearer to one of the ruling elite (a kind of combination bodyguard and special assistant) and sent on a mission by his master. While on the mission, his master was assassinated, an event that demands the death sentence for his shield bearers, forcing him to run for his life and take up life as a freelance mercenary (i.e. adventurer). Settling in Sigil, he has joined the current group, etc.

Still not sure what the base race would be, I am considering Elf of some description, though obviously not one from any of the worlds that already exist (they seem to have developed an advanced, high magic civilization that is closer in outlook to Drow than normal elves), although human remains a possibility.

@Deities - Of the forgotten realms lore, Helm and Cyric are among my favourites. Sadly both of them have - uh - unfavourable circumstances surrounding them which may make them unsuitable for a player character (namely - one is the unflinching bastion of order that may or may not be dead depending on the timeline and the other is the insane god of insanity [and murdering, maybe]).

But given how forgotten realms mesh sorta poorly with Planescape at large (since it has its own intricate cosmology) I'd recommend looking at the 'normal' 3.5 gods which I'm sadly a lot less familiar with.

Half Celestial is kinda the lower end as far as templates go. Since he's allowing templates at all that's unlikely to be a problem.

I guess I could go with "son of Bhaal, god of murder", but we've all been there eh? Cyric does sound interesting. I like the madness domain. I don't have to be the same alignment as my father. Though I kinda feel like playing some sort of good character so another deity would probably be better suited.

They sound cool...but not what I really want at this point. I may come back to it though, as one of my class toss-ups involved the Shaman class.

I know of Waterdeep, but little about it except it apparently has pirate hunters. I've read more R.A. Salvatore novels than I'm really proud of, but that only gives broad strokes of the setting. I'll do some reading.

You mentioned other settings...any with a slightly more advanced culture? Closer to Enlightenment Europe or so, particularly England, Spain, and France. I'm assuming Greyhawk is in there somewhere, but it's not really any more advanced.

That's one of the neat things about Golarion, is the cultures seem largely more Renaissance or post-Renaissance than a true medieval setting.

As absurd as the power level of this already is, I cannot resist the urge to stretch it to the limit. I'm trying to figure out a way to make a construct with fast healing only cost 20 RP, but the lowest I can get it is 21. Can anyone think of something I might be missing? Or could I maybe get a custom -1 weakness trait approved?

Just go with a template instead?

@Advanced cultures - I guess Spelljammer would be the most high-tech, but I'm not overly familiar with it. It does possess 'spaceships' so it might be a bit too advanced ^^

I *think* Ravenloft and/or Eberron are a bit more towards the renaissance era as well, the former however containing a large dose of horror.

Perhaps the city-states of Amn back in forgotten realms would fit your fancy? It is, to my knowledge, filled with almost everything associated with renaissance fantasy except guns.

Spelljammer is way too advanced, yeah. And Eberron is very heavy on magic-tech as I recall.

But Amn seems pretty perfect actually. Thanks!

Divinitus, I'm looking for different ways to be able to Flurry with a Rapier. Looking for how strict you are on abilities with identical function, but different names.

EX, for Crusader's Flurry, you require Flurry of Blows and Channel Energy. Does...

1.) A Paladin's Channel Positive Energy fulfill the Channel Energy requirement?

2.) A Life Shaman's "Channel" count as Channel Energy?

3.) A Meditant (Psychic Warrior)'s Flurry of Strikes count as Flurry of Blows?

And so on. I was considering a Soulknife/Warpriest/Meditant build.

Ahhh I think I'll take my balance concerns behind the shed and shoot them. The drider template looks so enticing that I'll think I'll make two datasheets - one high powered (/w drider template) and one low (well, for tristalt :P) powered one (/w amalgam drider).

And this post served no purpose but to bump the thread and fuel the hype, so enjoy :P

For my graveknight i think anti paladin and barbarian are definites. Trying to choose between oracle, cleric or something with good casting for the third side.

An oracle of battle would be a badass fit.

Btw, he didn't mention it, but when Div and I discussed this prior to his posting, he was saying that while you would gain the class features and skills of all three classes, BAB, HD and saves would be from one class that you choose.

Not at all sure this is still what he wants to do, but wanted to give you all a heads up just in case he forgot to mention it

As of right now, assume you pick and choose like normal, but keep in mind he may go with one class for all the above.

Wanna draw heavy from 3PP for my concept, so while I've seen the banned list, nothing except smoke template is on d20pfsrd.com, so I wanna check that these are up for grabs. Links to things on the SRD are asterisked.

Race: Goat Clan (+20 some RP, haven't calculated extant yet)
Tristalt Levels: *Smoke Template 3 (+1 *1.5), Witch (*Alley Witch) 11 || Marauder 14 || Ethermagus 14

Wanna do a little bit more research into the setting before I finalize concept, but I'm basically thinking someone whose perhaps lived in Sigil for quite a while. Raised in a tradition of witches in the City of Brass, but found a true talent for skirmishing combat. Disillusioned with some of the more evil/heinous practices of his culture, he picked up adventuring, continuing to crowdsource his witch source of power, but focused on the development of his blitzkreig style. Along the way, he learned to pull the etherstuff between realities to form the perfect weapon to compliment his martial art.

Amusingly enough, the Warder provides all that already for my little drider-wannabe-horseman* of the apocalypse : )

*I solved that problem by pretending the mount is an impressive chariot drawn by two normal-sized flaming horses, instead of one humongous one :P

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Alright, I've got the idea for my character mostly figured out. She will be a former Kasatha-turned-Graveknight who follows the teachings of the Keeper (from the Eberron setting). She was once a paladin of Boldrei and a skilled alchemist, but fell hard when her husband betrayed her and murdered their two children in a ritual that he claimed that would allow him to live forever, then disappeared. She swore revenge, but knowing that he could hide from her forever if he wanted to, she decided to take on the mantle of undeath so that she could continue her hunt for him for all eternity if needed. She will do absolutely anything if she feels that it will bring her closer to finding her immortal husband, including working beside creatures who she may find repugnant.

Her classes will be Antipaladin (14), Apothecary (14), Magus (Battlefield Defiler) (11) + Graveknight template (3)

Graveknight, cool. I was thinking about going with that but it didnt quite fit.

I will be submitting a Dread Necromancer (updated to PF by GM), just need an idea for one more side of the tristalt. I am thinking Wizard, because I don't want to be shoehorned only into necromancy, maybe Psion. Don't wanna go the Sorceror route just because I will already have high CHA since we will have enough ability points to go around and wizard would just be for versatility.

the third side of the tristalt will likely be something... monstrous.

The general idea of the character would be one of someone who was a promising acolyte of undeath but rather than go the cliche route of raising the biggest army of undead, he focused the negative energy inward and infused his body with it.

Just really not sure about that second class, any ideas? Was thinking Wizard, Psion, or Cleric for versatility. Godling just seemed a little wonky, the theme fits certainly but the reason i was thinking Wizard is they can scribe more and more spells forever, Godling just gets a small list known, i think...? Though with a high enough Charisma, I can just UMD any other spells i need.

Nathaniel Hallow was always a sickly child, prone to epileptic episodes where the echoing voices of twelve murdered souls would speak through him. These twelve became his only friends as doctor after doctor walked through the door of his parents estate in Barovia. He learned much of this world and the next in that time as he constantly stood in the twilight between life and death.
It wasn't until Nathaniel was a young man that he was deemed healthy enough to travel, but he took to it with delight. He would collect the stories from the spirits within all the places he would visit. Never attempting to flee from them or free them, instead he would simply talk to the injured soul for hours on end until he had learned all he could. Nathaniel soon abandoned any claim to a home at all and became content to wander the mists with The Twelve following him wherever he went. When his power and learning grew great enough The Twelve manifested to slit his throat while he slept. It was only after his death that he truly found purpose as the strongest voice on the Council of 13.
Nathaniel Hallow (CN), Dread Ghost +3
Medium (Purple Duck Games)14/Mesmerist 14 (Spirit Walker)/Antipaladin 11

Sphere's of power okay?

With the Staff of the Master, would it be possible to get a different list of spells, from a different school?
Necromancy doesn't really fit the theme of my devil, and I was hoping to get a school that did.

I was thinking maybe illusion, as that fits in with his "trickery/deception/stealth" theme.
What about these three spells instead?

disguise self (1 charge)
mirror image (2 charges)
invisibility (2 charges)

With so many undeads I almost don't feel bad for considering Animal Lord. Bringing con to 31 is good, though probably on the same level as replacing con with cha (similar deal for str->dex for incorporeal creatures). I might just go with smoke creature though. It'll give me a bunch of useful stuff without being overpowering.

@GraveScratches: I belive Dread Ghost would cost 5 levels, not 3. 3*1.5 rounded up.

Are there dionsaurs/megafauna in D&D too, or is that a pathfinder only thing?

A barbarian tribe like the Kellids in the land of the mammoth lords that are often interacting with dinosaurs etc could be a decent starting place for my character. Are there any similar things in any of the D&D settings?

If memory serves, I seem to recall the Epic Level Handbook including some kind of megafauna. I don't recall them attributing them to a particular plane or whatever. Also the Drow of Xendrik (Eberron) have a close connection with monstrous scorpions, which they believe to be servants of their god. also the Talenta Halflings (Eberron) love dinosaurs.

i'm going with a rogue/magus/swashbuckler I think..as for race, it's an upgrade on the teifling. The premise for the race is the fiend selects an elf to mate with, but not just any elf....one with speed and grace above the norm, as well as spell casting affinity, creating a faster, more graceful teifling offspring. The gains are the fast movement trait(1 rp), the quick reactions feat trait(2 rp), the elven magic trait(3 rp) and the arcane focus trait(1 rp) bringing the total to 20 rp

And a quick question on the extra feats..you mean we get an extra 14 feats? just want to clear that up....

Pretty sure he means every level you don't get one on this chart, so that would be an extra 7 feats at 14th level (instead of 7, you get 14.)

Since I totally missed that, it gives me some more room to play :)

I saw the halfings, that would work if my characters wasn't a human... Maybe there is something fitting better in one of the other settings? Are there polar bears in icewind dale? Might go a frozen version of Beorn(he's clearly an animal lord).

@grimdog73: Pretty sure we get 7 extra feats, to fill in the levels where we don't normally get one.

that's what i thought as well...after thinking about it. I originally read it at like 4am...tired reading makes me look like an idiot....

While I can't OK the spells, the concept should be fine, as it says in the description for the Staff that variants for each school exists.

Going with a medium sized Kobold Dragon disciple mystic unchained monk.

Thinking about changing Cleric out for Serpent Shaman Druid.

Thoughts?

still trying to figure out what to pair with my Dread Necromancer.
