The next Ultra Class Star Destroyer.

So they have the technology to do the first 2, but can't have remote guided bombs, that's too advanced somehow? They also can't have a button in the cockpit so the pilot can drop the bombs without needing someone else? How is technology we have from the 70's too advanced for Star Wars? That's what's utterly ridiculous.

As for the Kamikaze Hyperspace Fleet Bomb. Well, that can certainly be explained away with technobabble. What anoyed me was that Akbar dies like a chump getting flash frozen into a pile of space flotsam. Why didn't he survive the bridge attack and pilot the Kamikaze attack instead of Admiral Ball Gown?

Spoiler:
Maybe because the actor who voiced him died last year.

Spoiler:
Didn't stop Rogue One from having Grand Moff Tarkin.

Why have a new character no one cares about do something important when you can have a returning character people know do it instead? Maybe they thought Admiral Ball Gown was such a scene stealer.

And I'm terrible at formatting. My reply to Benchak was for his most recent post.

Spoiler:
It’s not an issue of those technologies being too advanced. It’s that realism, efficiency, and practicality weren’t priorities in designing the tech.

They never have been for Star Wars.

As Skeld said, nearly all Star Wars tech is ridiculous in one way or another. I bet you loved Empire Strikes Back. Did you stop to contemplate how silly the AT-ATs were from a design standpoint, as ponderous and top heavy as they are?

But we love them because they look cool as hell, and they made for a great thrilling action scene in the film.

The bombers in TLJ worked that way for me.

I think that's the crux of the issue with the bombers in LJ for me- they don't look cool and they don't make the scene particularly thrilling- and you need one of the two to make the scene work. They're pretty obvious sitting ducks, and they get massacred so fast it's a bit hard to develop any fondness for them. When we see the squadron cut down to one ship in about the time it takes to notice them at all, the rest of the sequence becomes as predictable as peristalsis, and as exciting as its end result.

And that’s absolutely a fair take. Taste is subjective, and I’m certainly not trying to tell everyone that they have to like the bombers (even though I loved them).

I just thought it was funny that people were complaining about two aspects of the bomber (gravity and the open door) based on VERY well established technologies in the Star Wars universe.

Is facepalm an emotion?

Begun, Star Wars logic, have.

Hey, the bit about the ships sensors making the sound for you was pretty good.

The kessel run being a distance thing with black holes rather than Han being very bad at cowflopping.. not so much

First, I want to share this.

Second, I think it’s finally safe and you all can stop using spoiler tags one and all.

I FINALLY saw Last Jedi.

Loved it...far superior to The Force Awakens, with most of its handicaps being basically legacies left over from the prior movie. But I totes can see how it is a divisive film in the fandom.

oh yeah...I had to avoid several websites I regularly visit for the last week and more

it was getting to the point where I wanted to see it just so I wouldn't have to worry about spoilers more so than actually being excited about the movie...

That's a good question.

And there's your answer: yes. Is cloistering yourself on an island planet with a big scary dark force source hiding you any different than hiding on a swamp planet with a big scary dark force source hiding you?

(Other people tie Obi-wan's seclusion on Tattooine in the same category, but it's clear that he's there to keep tabs on Annikin's son.)

No particular reason for him to know that, really. Both Vader and his boss were killed by an exploding space station- the personal drama was fairly irrelevant to anyone outside the family circle.

Rey knew all about that personal drama, though. Its how Luke 'became a legend'..

Becoming a crazy space-hermit is literally the only Jedi retirement plan there is.

Apparently decades of telling people to suppress all of their emotions and never form a human attachment to anyone isn't good for your long term psycological health.

Nope...not at all...it makes you drink freaky milk from Thela-sirens in the most disturbing fashion you can muster and toss a laser sword (your OWN laser sword) off a cliff.

Oh I did love the milk bit...but the light-sabre thing bugged me, just seems very out of character for Luke, unbalanced by isolation or not.

The toss was great. It established in 1 second Lukes mood and character. And it makes sense. We already did this nobody saves the universe bit and now that i'm older i know it doesn't change a damn thing Nope. screw it.

Favorite part of the Luke Rey thing:

Damn girl. You went to the darkside in 6.3 seconds Flat. Even Rey took a few months of dressing in black and putting on face makeup before he went near that thing.

Spoiler:
For the last 10 years or so, Luke has been blaming himself for failing Ben Solo.
So much so that he exiled himself to some far off planet where the Jedi began.
While there he decides that the Jedi are useless and need to end.
It is only after Rey leaves and he is undecided about burning the TREE that Yoda appears to give him encouragement.
Where was Yoda for the last 10 years????

Spoiler:
Or Yoda was waiting until luke was ready to listen. Or for someone to check out the books before the argument made him burn the place down.

Just an observation, in the Legacy comic by Darkhorse, Cade Skywalker uses death sticks to numb his force powers so he doesn't have to listen to Luke's force ghost, so that part of the movie at least I had no issue with.

Legacy was also utter garbage.

The story was garbage, but they had some real talent doing the art for a better part of the run, which is how I got sucked in.

It's very different for Yoda and Obi-wan. All the Jedi that could be found were murdered by their own government in one day. Any left were being hunted down and killed. The new head of the government is Sith, and knew Yoda and Obi-wan were still out there. Hiding was the only thing Yoda and Obi-wan could do to survive. Keep in mind after that order came down, Obi-wan still went to confront Anakin one last time, he didn't run away immediately.

Now years after Return of the Jedi, Luke was a hero. He didn't have the entire galactic republic looking to kill him. He had the support of the entire Rebel alliance, and was secure enough that he could build a school without the Empire ever coming to destroy it. He didn't run and hide because he was going to be hunted down and killed, he choose to run and hide because he felt guilty and afraid. I could have been ok with this if Luke needed a few years to pick himself up again, but not for decades.

Spoiler:
And not after hearing about Han Solo and still doesn't care enough to leave the island. And not when he now knows the Empire is on the verge of winning. Not when he now knows his sister could be next, and he still does nothing. Leaving all of his friends and family to die because he's afraid, does that sound like a Jedi thing to do? It sure doesn't to me.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's not decades, right? Ben Solo isn't that old. According to the Wiki timeline it's not clear exactly when that scene happened, but it was not more than 6 years before the movies.

And I didn't read Luke as afraid, at least not of being hunted and killed, but as guilty and disillusioned with the Jedi.

Spoiler:
So, if the force has to be balanced, wouldn't all rey has to do to turn the order good is go evil? Emo ren goes back to the light and is in control of the empire , she's evil but has 5 followers and some broken down farm equipment.
