After this cull, I started paying close attention of auras and caster levels. 14 incorrect items in about 50 votes...

Faint aura 1-5 CL
Moderate aura 6-11 CL
Strong aura 12+ CL

CL is NOT equal to the spell level. CL is equal to highest spell level times two, then subtract one.

A few items got both wrong.

EDIT: Aura should only show the highest level detected, not multiple strength auras.

Except magic weapons have slightly different rules, where the enhancement bonus of the weapon can affect the caster level, regardless of the spells used.

And the strength of the aura really shouldn't factor into your decision unless all other aspects of the items are equal. As in: the quality of both items is so identical that the ONLY way to decide between the two is who can adhere to the template better.
And even then, such a vote, for me anyway, would be unsatisfying.

So there isn't confusion when the strongest 2 spells are the same level but different schools you still put mote than one aura. This si all over the PRD and might be part of the confusion.

When I vote, I break an entry into 3 parts, 30% the item's description, 30% template, 40% rules fu. So I don't consider description above rules, rather under it. Not everyone votes the same and this is my preference. There is no way 2 items will ever be identical in my consideration, I have rules I follow when I vote. Very specific ones and as more culls happen, I take more rules into consideration.

There are a couple exceptions to that one. I have only seen 1 item which broke the CL and enchantment level rule though.

Okay, I'm going to post my first snark:

Designers, stop saying that your item "appears" to look like what it is. It seriously weakens the impact you are trying to create. Instead of "This blade appears to be slimy" say "A glistening ooze sloughs thickly from the surface of this blade".

Furthermore, stop relying on visual description alone! We have at least four other senses to titillate that most items barely cover. A tactile or auditory description can be really powerful.

...two items posted against each other that have the EXACT SAME POWER. And one costs 6 times as much as the other. (The low priced item is too cheap, the high priced one is too expensive...)

I've never come closer to using the 'equally good/bad' button.

Sadly I had to upvote a few of those early on, because they were paired up with something that was even worse. With this last cull, I'm starting to see a vast improvement in what's left, so I'm hoping the few stragglers will find their way out with the next cull.
