Another trope to add to the list:

Gloves that enhance your weapon.

I'm only put off by the word "filigree" if it's being used to describe something that isn't filigree.

ARGH! Racial stereotype themed items! My greatest pet peeve in all games! Especially when they're badly done like this one.

Oh dear. An item similar to a previous top 32. It's a good idea to read those old winners.

That item literally doesn't do anything.

Grand Lodge Marathon Voter Season 9

The thing that makes your item super unique? Yeah, that's already how the rules work.

I still haven't seen that one, but I keep seeing it mentioned.

I always find myself wondering about masks (and this doesn't specifically apply to anything in RPG superstar, but also things found in the various rulebooks): does anyone actually have their characters going around wearing these things?

Marathon Voter Season 9

The perfect item for smart gorillas. Sometimes bad slotting can be fun.

The weird thing is the number of masks I've seen that get sucked into your face. I mean, it's two, and one of them was culled, but it's odd. And also sort of creepy.

There was actually a whole series of fantasy books about masks that you wear but are absorbed into your face that give you the powers of the gods. It was pretty good and also a while back so I doubt that anyone is copying anything but the trope is definitely out there.

You want to make a rogue (says announcer voice) why bother! Now there is mini rogue in a can!

Not entirely true, the item won't steal your crap at night.

I'm seeing a lot of creates darkness but you can see through it. Reminds me a lot of makes you blind but you can see.

I don't like you because you seem particularly useless but you are up against a cursed item so you win this one.

There was an entire video game made about magical masks.

I means, just look at the typical users of these masks.

I'm not a huge fan of the absorbed-style mask, but for some masks (especially social ones), it feels somewhat necessary. Like, how does that stone-face mask work against anyone with even a smattering of Knowledge? Especially against PCs.

The one that makes you "invisible"? Pretty sure it's mentioned in game that it doesn't actually make you invisible, just "very plain". Their eyes just gloss over the wearer- they see them, certainly, but they're so forgettable that the wearer is immediately disregarded.

Marathon Voter Season 9

Oh riiiiight. I finally get how you use that item. Before it was dumb and pointless. Now it's dumb and OP. Congratulations, even when I understand what you do you're getting downvoted.

No, the Bluff one, from the Advanced Race Guide. The one that just got a price increase.

True but plunging yourself into darkness should blind you and yet it doesn't...and how have you voted so much already. I've been on vacation and voting every time I'm at a computer and still haven't quite cracked dedicated.

500 votes, minimum 60 second wait time between each, so minimum of about 8 hours 20 minutes of voting time to get Dedicated? Takes a while.

Oh good so it is okay to snark during voting. I felt so bad at all the critiques I wanted to throw at some of the entries...

...Is also sure that some of the entries here were probably for my item. *bitter tears and laugh*

I have already started writing next year's item. It is covered in the blood of an orphan named Rune Filigree.

I still can't even with these back stories. And all these items are so weathered and worn in... What if I use the construction requirements to craft a new one? Do I have to scrape it on the ground to fit the elaborate description?

Two items with P alliteration in the name, what are the odds? Probably pathetic, but possibly plentiful. Picks the poor performer for painful purging.

Was the poor performer purged by popping pepper popovers in its perpetually probing proboscis?
