Star Voter Season 9

My item is still in the running. Glad to see something simple, easy, and obvious still in this race.

You would think with all the jokes about it, the filigree would stop. But no. Everything is still covered in filigree. When it's not filigree, it's runes. When it's not runes, it's the blood of an orphan.

I'm going to make a cursed item where anything it touches is infected and begins growing filigree on any available surface, including people.

"Someone cast remove curse, quickly! She's caught the filigree!"

Uhm... its better than everything being covered in lace, or cobwebs, or whatever the latest vogue thing is to write about. :-)

I'm fairly sure there's been an item with this name every year. And that they all do more or less the same thing. No, I don't think it's the same submitter.

Grand Lodge Marathon Voter Season 9

If you don't speak English, please find someone bilingual to help you write your item. If you speak Portuguese or Spanish I'll help you myself.

Marathon Voter Season 9

I don't really want to have to upvote you, because there's that other item that does your thing, only better. You have better imagery, but ultimately you're not as well done. Still, you beat your opposition this time...

Marathon Voter Season 9

Item, it's close call, but you win by virtue of having links. Even overdone links. Both of you were good though.

Grand Lodge Marathon Voter Season 9

Expensive single use item that does virtually nothing, or INSANELY expensive item that does virtually nothing forever...

Surprisingly, spotted 5 items I've never seen in the past 3 days.
Also, I haven't spotted any of these joke items I keep hearing about... or maybe I've just been taking them seriously.

They're fairly obvious when you spot them. I think there are five or six of them still floating around.

Grand Lodge Marathon Voter Season 9

That should cost 90,000 more. No. Oh, and it has runes.

Really? how did you two survived this long?

Well, you are modern technology put into a magic item, but I don't mind that as much as some. Heck my very first RPGSS entry was dismissed as such. I think that there is good reason to believe that a magic society would have these sort of devices. And your competition I don't like at all, so you get the vote.

OMG. Post 2nd cull I finally found a joke item that is definitely a joke item. I don't know how the designer could have mistaken this as a serious magic item.

Two movie items up against each other. GB vs. PotC. Who will win?

Star Voter Season 9

Wow. I can't believe I finally just up voted an item that made excessive use of the word "attune". I hate that word.

I'm surprised some bard crafter hasn't already invented auto-attune. ;)

After this cull, I started paying close attention of auras and caster levels. 14 incorrect items in about 50 votes...

Faint aura 1-5 CL
Moderate aura 6-11 CL
Strong aura 12+ CL

CL is NOT equal to the spell level. CL is equal to highest spell level times two, then subtract one.

A few items got both wrong.

EDIT: Aura should only show the highest level detected, not multiple strength auras.

Except magic weapons have slightly different rules, where the enhancement bonus of the weapon can affect the caster level, regardless of the spells used.

Star Voter Season 8, Marathon Voter Season 9

And the strength of the aura really shouldn't factor into your decision unless all other aspects of the items are equal. As in: the quality of both items is so identical that the ONLY way to decide between the two is who can adhere to the template better.
And even then, such a vote, for me anyway, would be unsatisfying.

So there isn't confusion when the strongest 2 spells are the same level but different schools you still put mote than one aura. This si all over the PRD and might be part of the confusion.

I thought you were gone, I was okay with it, you weren't on the items seen list, that was good. They were wrong, so wrong. And you know what, have my upvote too, cause the other item is worse.

When I vote, I break an entry into 3 parts, 30% the item's description, 30% template, 40% rules fu. So I don't consider description above rules, rather under it. Not everyone votes the same and this is my preference. There is no way 2 items will ever be identical in my consideration, I have rules I follow when I vote. Very specific ones and as more culls happen, I take more rules into consideration.

In order to make the multi-cull system still give everybody a fair shot they have to use very shallow culls. In past years with the heavy culls we still got people saying, "THAT made it through?!? THAT?!?!" So expect that after every single cull we get; you'd be amazed at what some people like. ;)

There are a couple exceptions to that one. I have only seen 1 item which broke the CL and enchantment level rule though.

Okay, I'm going to post my first snark:

Designers, stop saying that your item "appears" to look like what it is. It seriously weakens the impact you are trying to create. Instead of "This blade appears to be slimy" say "A glistening ooze sloughs thickly from the surface of this blade".

Furthermore, stop relying on visual description alone! We have at least four other senses to titillate that most items barely cover. A tactile or auditory description can be really powerful.

I've never come closer to using the 'equally good/bad' button.

Sadly I had to upvote a few of those early on, because they were paired up with something that was even worse. With this last cull, I'm starting to see a vast improvement in what's left, so I'm hoping the few stragglers will find their way out with the next cull.

A couple of culls seriously tones down my snark. There are still a few items here and there that raise my ire a bit, but since I'm not seeing them so often, I don't have much to say here. Praise thread doesn't seem worth it, since I have to be so vague I can't really give credit to items for being good.

I wonder if it's time to revive the joke item thread yet?

I was so used to weapon that I needed a couple of minutes to realize is a wondrous item and not a bottle you can smash and use to cut someone.

Yep, despite my innate resistance to it at first, one particular joke item that is related to household pets has managed to get pretty high up my list.

Despite it's jokey framing, it's really practical in application.

No, no, no Maria.

Those are not your lines, senorita.
If you want to sound like a diva,
I need you to indulge in the rhumba fever!

From the top, vamanos!

They call me Cuban Pete. I'm the king of the rhumba beat.

When I play the maracas I go chick-chicky-boom, chick-chicky boom
Yes sir, I'm Cuban Pete. I'm the craze of my native street.
When I start to dance, everything goes chick-chicky-boom, chick-chicky boom
The senoritas they sing and how they swing with this rumbero,
It's very nice, so full of spice.
And when they're dancing they bring a happy ring the maraquero,
El maraquero singin' a song, all the day long.

Here is your line, my chicky chicky. He's really a modest guy, although he's the hottest guy
In Havana, in Havana.

Si, senorita I know that you would like to chicky-boom-chick
It's very nice, so full of spice.
I'll place my hand on your hip, and if you will just give me your hand
Then we shall try - just you and I. Aye-aye-aye!

So if you like the beat, take a lesson from Cuban Pete
And I'll teach you chick-chicky-boom, chick-chicky-boom, chick-chicky-boom!

Shake Your Booty, Daddy, Wow!
See ya!

Thank you, average item, for getting everything right. It means I didn't have to vote for your competitor whom I strongly dislike, but have had to vote for a couple times because it was up against something that had too many mistakes.

Not sure how to take it. Been voting everyday, my item has made it past 2nd cull, but I have yet to see it!
