I must be in a pessimistic mood.
Every few pages in this thread, I see a statement of condemnation that says something like, "This item spits in the face of everything fun about gaming and makes me question the existence of E. Gary Gygax. I will up-vote a poorly-templated grocery list before I ever allow this piece of garbage to tarnish the game forever with its unforgivably bad mechanics and its unsavory intentions towards my loved ones."
Every time I read a statement like that, I immediately assume it's directed at my item. I don't assume that about any of the mild snark in this thread, just the truly vitriolic stuff.
I've read every single post, and that's exactly how I feel. On the other hand, at least they're talking about my item? There's no such thing as bad press? Ugh.
Ahhh. I found it. Was pages and pages ago. I ended up in the middle of this thread somehow and when I refreshed it brought me to this page and I couldn't locate it...
Anyhow, PM sent. :)
I did the same thing, but then I decided to stop. Instead I drink in the praise thread and look for hints of my item there.

If it makes you feel better, I'd likely downvote just about anything from Gary Gygax.
That prerequisite spell can't achieve the level of effect you are giving the item, by far. At no Caster Level, but much less at the item's.
Wait, what's the target for that? The item itself? If so, I am getting a pretty hilarious mental image.
That unit of measure for that animal is only "3", 3 is not a swarm, but you still gut upvoted!
Average word count seems way down after the second cull. Take notice, future superstars!
That word in the title of this item that is meant to describe what the item is, doesn't mean what the Slot and later description tell.

If the item hadn't broken any major rules of the competition then it probably hasn't been reported. So it survived the 1st cull.
If the item has mostly got the formatting right, it might have received upvotes against similar quality items that didn't.
The first two culls really only weed out the stuff that seriously did not pay any attention at all to the rules of the competition.

I'm still seeing plenty of longer entries. However, they use their words to tell you how the item works, not to give you its backstory and description down to the most minor detail.
My item survives again....YAY!
CL doesn't work that way. Do I really need to read the other entry?
EDIT: If you're doing something weird that the rules don't cover, tell me how it works!

yes, because after I run out of spells I also need an OP weapon, just in case a martial thought he actually had a chance to shine now.
Glad I didn't submit one of my first contest ideas, as I've now seen two items that are verrrry similar both to it and to each other.
Humnn... on the bad side, your Big Power is really close to multiple weapons I saw last year, and you have some cliched descriptive language.
On the good side, you do have a really cool visual that perfectly explains your (useful, nifty) minor power.

Culls are great, it's getting hard to vote on items for good reasons now.
That said, I am so sick of expensive +1 weapons and armour. Unless your ability is particularly good, I'd rather just get it to +3 or something.
I'm sure I'm sounding like a broken record at this point, but we are two culls in and I still get match-ups where neither item's aura power has anything to do with their CL. It legitimately got to the point where I opened up my core rule book and double checked detect magic's table to make sure the PRD and PFSRD both didn't have a typo. But no, people go to the rules for creating magic items, see under aura it tell them to use the table in detect magic, and then say "Meh, I guesstimate this is a moderate aura. Totally can't be bothered to click that link." There is no guessing, there is no design decision, there is only the simplest table in the entire rule set, on what in my experience is the most casted cantrip in the game. To me, more than anything, it shows if the submitter even looked at the rules for creating magic items.
EDIT: For three straight pairing in a row! GAH!!! You win RPGSS, you've broken my will. Time to call it quits for a night.
If you are going to enhance things with metamagic you darn well better make it part of the construction requirements or I am running home and telling mom that I am downvoting you. Neener.

I decided to snark about the snark thread in the snark thread with a very meta-snark post for the 2,000th post in this thread.
So, here is a comprehensive list of every item ever entered in RPGSS.
This way, we can all gripe about how everything has been done before, kind of like that South Park episode where Butters had all of his originality disappear as he had been informed that The Simpsons had already done everything.
By the way, I put a tortilla in my toaster oven earlier with mozzarella cheese and pepperoni with chunky salsa and Parmesan cheese on top. It almost caught fire, but it was delicious.
