Venture into the Vault!

Pathfinder Treasure Vault reveals the glittering hoard of a terrifying dragon, as presented by the creature’s plucky kobold assistant. This 224-page hardcover rulebook presents a catalog of new gear from nearly every category of equipment and magic item available in the Pathfinder RPG while also introducing entirely new categories of items as well. Give your character the perfect tool for the job with signature weapons, customizable relics, and wondrous items to fit your every need while preparing for any eventuality with potions, elixirs, wands, and more!

Each chamber of the dragon’s vault contains a mountain of treasure, from deadly new weapons and forgotten suits of armor to mysterious alchemical items and deadly poisons. There is something in the vault for everyone, including:

  • Nearly 600 new items spread across numerous equipment types.
  • Over 50 new weapons, such as the devastating earthbreaker hammer and the ferocious falcata.
  • New shields and armor, from wooden breastplates for druids to the magical starfall shield that turns you into a living comet!
  • An entire chapter, "Alchemy Unleashed," that introduces over 100 new alchemical items, covering everything from restorative lozenges to searing flamethrowers.
  • New magic items of all shapes and sizes, from magical tattoos to artifacts like the goddess Shelyn's mighty glaive, the Whisperer of Souls.
  • An entire chapter of new, variant, and expanded crafting rules.
  • New categories of items that can give you power that comes at a dangerous price.

Ring Side Report- RPG Review of Treasure Vault

Product- Treasure Vault

TL; DR-Make or buy something fun! 95%

Basics- IT HAS POCKETS! Treasure Vault is the TTRPG equivalent of a Toys r Us Christmas catalog. Lots of new toys for everyone to play with, from alchemists with new materials, to spell additions that give some extra umph to the fireball, or the fighter with the ability to add pockets to armor.

Mechanics or Crunch- Overall, this book has a solid crunch to the system. There are lots of new toys that everyone can use and enjoy. It's an item book and the items fit with the rest of the toys in the rest of the system. My one major issue is that some things are left out because they are covered in other books. Tell me where those are from so I can check the rules out in those books. It's not a major thing but it's enough so I was a bit confused on some new additions in this book and lead me to check out others books for the rules. Also, the newer rules on crafting are good, but they reference things without giving enough background so I was a bit confused there on first read. More links to the other materials and books would help. Good stuff but enough confusion that I was a bit lost as I read through some of the sections. 4.25/5

Theme or Fluff- I was surprised by the amount of theme present in here! There is a framing device where a dragon and a kobold discuss the new items and materials. It's enjoyable! In addition, all the new toys the book presents are honestly fun and more fitting to the world. 5/5

Execution- This is a slam dunk. Solid layout, easy to read font, hyperlinks, and solid art all make this an easy and enjoyable book for anyone to use. Well done book craftsmanship. 5/5Summary-This book is another solid addition to Pathfinder 2nd Ed. The book is crafted well from a technical standing. The new toys for players all feel fresh enough that players will enjoy them and they feel like they fit in the world. Even the new things all fit well within the mechanics of the world. My main issue is I would like more rules to help me understand how some things are used or how some things are done. If you or your players want more items to spend that sweet, sweet GP on, or or more things to make, this is the book you need for Pathfinder! 95%

Some creative and wonderfull items, overshadowed by some negatives

3/5

The book contains some items I was looking forward to, mostly more druid-friendly armor, but if I am sincere, also a couple of things that feel like they could still use errata.
For my own APs and things the book is essentially in quarantine and players have to ask permission even for common options.
That is genuinely something new, and in many cases, it's about magic/alchemical items with a significant power level increase.

Not just that, but a fair number of items also felt like they break some design guidelines I had assumed existed in this edition of Pathfinder. Like the helmet, I had level 17 AP players ask if they could buy this relatively low-level item..

There are a couple of other instances of items I never hope to encounter at a table, but in general, if a GM chooses to include everything in the book in their game, it will have a measurable effect on player power.

Of course, the book also adds a fair number of new interesting options, but some of what some might call power creep negatively affects my perception of everything else.

Wondrous Expansion to Items of All Sorts!

5/5

Treasure Vault provides a huge amount of fantastic items all players to drool over.

Excellent items!

Please tell me there will be cards for these. I love using item cards for everything! I have made hundreds myself, but official ones are so much nicer than half a 3x5 index card.

Yes, please! Item cards are wonderful accessories for GMs with little artistic talent, and a total inability to get the fronts and backs aligned from the PDFs.

Any chance the Alchemical Crossbow gets a reprint here? I know some folks get antsy about using options from Adventure books.

In case anyone was curious, the final cover is up for this book! Loving the treasure chests on the right side!

The cover is very nice, but I am still wondering if there is really anything for me in this book. I would rather see more classes/archetypes/ancestries etc. than more items.

Doesn't sound like it's for you, then.

Any cover with a kobold on it is a good cover. ;)

Do we have any info if this will have any new relic aspects*?

Honestly, I'm wondering when, and in what form, the previews for this book will be. Pretty sure we aren't getting a Paizo LIVE until next year due to the promotion and hiring situations, which will just leave 1 possible Paizo LIVE stream in January to showcase their rulebook before subscribers get their hands on the book in early February.

If not in the form of a stream, then what other form? News articles? Partnering with YouTubers? Paizo Blog posts?

I hope we do get to see some glimpses into this book soon, at least some kind of preview before everything slows down for Christmas.

There are only a handful of weapons that I really want. Three Section Staff and Kyo-ketsu-shoge would round out the martial arts weapons that are missing. The Mancatcher has been a favorite of mine since Dark Souls and would make a good Hobgoblin ancestral weapon.

I'm guessing they'll partner with some YouTubers a week or two out like they did for the last few books. Beyond that I'm not sure.

Yeah, I am split. On the one hand I want it because it is a rulebook, on the other I think an items books doesn't appeal to me. Knowing details of what's inside would help me.

I'm gonna be starting a homebrew campaign (still in Golarion, but custom plot) in February, so this book could not come out at a more perfect time for me. I also just like new stuff, so I'm stoked for this.

Okay, I wasn't terribly excited for this book, whatsoever, but those things are getting me more worked up for it; especially the bottled monstrosities.

But, where are the gadgets? Hopefully, they are a part of the Wondrous Consumables. I'm going to be very disappointed if there are no gadgets in this book.

OOOH! Now that's got my mind a-spinning!

The "Archetype Artifacts" must be those "items you consumed to gain powers similar to Devil Fruits in One Piece" that someone mentioned (I think it was Michael Sayre mentioned at one of the PaizoCon/GenCon panel streams).

And we've seen a pic and some brief descriptions about the Bottle Monstrosities, too.

Now I wonder what are "Permanent Alchemical Items" and what "Blighted Boons" are in the GM's Trove.

Pretty sure they're just a white/silver Kobold. There's a pic from PaizoCon that more clearly depicts the Kobold in question, I pasted the pic in my old PaizoCon Google doc write-up found HERE. Check under the #pathfinder-qa section.

Wow, very hyped for this book...

I have to admit I've been off the loop on my Paizo news. Seem to recall this was supposed to contain some alchemist errata, although looking at the table of contents for alchemy unleashed, it seems to be just items. Or was the errata meant to be a CRB errata?

Pretty sure it's CRB errata that's meant to come out around the same time as Treasure Vault's release.

Yes, the next printing of the PF Core Rulebook regular hardcover will contain alchemy errata, whereas Treasure Vault will contain new alchemy items. We'll promote the details of both when we have them.

Great to get previews! but, man I have a hard time waiting for it.

Ooh, more details! I love details. It looks like we’re not get the rondolero duelist archetype, just the falcata, which is a shame. Maybe we’ll get something on Pathfinder Infinite same day.

My God!!! More than 2 months of waiting!!!! I think Paizo should hold their ads with just a few hours to go!!!! (yes I am VERY anxious, especially when we have quality material coming on the horizon!) All kidding aside, it really is a book that I will devour completely!

So, over on my Twitter I'd mentioned that if I got 100 comments from people telling me what section of Treasure Vault they'd be most excited to see a spoiler from (now that the whole Table of Contents is out in the wild), I'd put a single spoiler from the most popularly requested section here. I've bucketed these requests up to broader chapters since some people were asking for chapters and others were asking for specific subsections (blame that on me and Twitter's character limit), and Secrets of Crafting was the big winner here. So I'm going to tease the new "Gardens of Wonder" subsystem!

Gardens of Wonder
"Essentially, a garden is a living item or collection of items that produce herbal alchemical items, poisons, or other consumables at a steady rate (typically one per day) without the need for additional downtime. These consumables are only temporary, however, typically taking the form of a short-lived fruit, flower blossom, or other perishable good. As such, they expire at the end of the day; since characters with a garden can’t stockpile their bounty, they’re encouraged to use the consumable items each day. Even magical and other extraordinary means of preservation have no effect."

Gardens are a tool for PCs to gain a renewable source of consumables for the party. These rules work best when the PCs have a recurring base of operations they can set their gardens up near or in, and can cover a much wider array of consumables and concepts than you might think! A garden of wonder that the PCs invest in could be a bakery, an alchemical laboratory staffed by homunculi, or something like these:

Haunted Churches and Sites of Power
"A cleric creates a living scroll factory from parchment scraps won from contract devils and mummy wrappings, producing eerie-looking scrolls each midnight that explode into black flame the following midnight. Any of a variety of undead or extraplanar creatures might serve as the central seed for a “religious garden” that supplies the character with scrolls, catalysts, or other thematically appropriate consumables. This type of garden is most likely to be appropriate at higher levels, where a PC has the power to compel service from the undead or extraplanar entity who powers the garden. However, a PC who dedicates themself to the service of such a creature might be able to create and benefit from this type of garden as part of their tenure.
When using Earn Income to help defray the costs of creating this kind of garden, Architecture Lore or a lore skill related to a type of creature tied to the site (such as Devil Lore or Mummy Lore) are appropriate skills."

I really like the idea of that, it has the potential to make players consider consumables more if they have a regular source of them, and I know people always loved the fantasy of setting something like that up, I think it's the real source of all those 'spell combination' style posts we used to see where players used to come up with dumb fantasies of extreme automation and stuff.

Yay, automatic consumable factory!

Anything with alternate crafting rules is welcome by me. so far in our games, everyone has turned up their noses at even attempting to craft something, outside of alchemists and their daily infusions.
