I'm not sure, but I think I may have cheated myself out of the free PDF. I have an active AP sub, and had one when I first put the Anniversary Edition hardcover into my Shopping Cart some months back.
But at some point after putting it in the cart, I shifted it to Save For Later, and it only just today got shifted back, paid for and moved to the Sidecart.
I suspect that as a result of all the time spent in Save For Later, I missed the pre-order cutoff, yes?

What is the definition of "interactive" maps?
You can check out the FAQ for them here! Basically, it's an extra PDF with maps from the adventure that toggle between different views.

Seeing as how the link at the top of the page still says pre-order, that'd be kinda crummy of the Paizo-folks, if you ask me.

I just got an email from Amazon.com (where I preordered) that said the release has been pushed back to January 2013! Please say it ain't so!

Amazon sometimes has issues with our release dates. You can read about what happens in both this thread and this post.

The man JUST SAID it's in his warehouse. Why would you believe Amazon??
And frankly, people who'd rather save a few bucks by using Amazon deserve to get jerked around on the actual release date. If you don't mind waiting a few days, weeks, or months to save on the book, go ahead and use Amazon, but don't cry when everyone else has their book (and PDF and Interactive Maps) and you are standing by your mailbox waiting.
And waiting.
And waiting...

I would think that as long as you've got it before it ships, you should be good. Send customer service an email, and they'll have a definitive answer for you!

Believe it or not, on Monday I received an email from Amazon saying that a Blu-ray I ordered wasn't available yet and they didn't know when they would be shipping it, but it looked like it might be October of 2012. One hour later, I got an email from them saying that my preorder for that Blu-ray had just shipped. You know what they say about the left hand and the right hand...

As long as you have an active AP subscription at the time the package containing your copy of the RotRL Hardcover is shipped from our facility you should receive the PDF.

I also got the same email from Amazon. Have you confirmed that the order will be sent around July 6?

Thanks for the links Chris. I wouldn't be worried about a month extra, but a year?! That had me worried.

The most important rule: Don't be a jerk. We want our messageboards
to be a fun and friendly place
That's pretty harsh there man. I saved 60%. Not everyone has a lot of money. I love the game, I support the company, I spread the word, and I wanted to save "a few bucks".

Why oh why is shipping overseas so cruel? I can't afford 3 Paizo HC's over 3 months! /sadpandaface
Seriously? How about Rappan Athuk completing its Kickstarter on June 2nd?
...
Whaddya mean by "not signed for it yet"?

I have to second powerdemon's comment... there are a lot of us who don't have a whole lot of money but still want to support the game. I preordered this in Feb when I first learned of it, and yeah, I went to Amazon because I needed the savings (that $22 I am saving buys me food for a week). The kind of attitude TwoWolves displayed towards paying customers (because Paizo still gets their money) is not something that should be promoted here... no one who pays their money for a hard-earned product "deserves" to be jerked around. Period.
I sent a message to Amazon to demonstrate my satisfaction. Like others said, a month is one thing (and I'm used to it), but six months or more? Unacceptable!

Add a third voice to that comment. I do buy PDFs from Paizo, but for hard copies, I go through Amazon or my local game store. I wouldn't even care if there were no discounts from Amazon, just the lower shipping. Of course, if and when the price is the same, I get the stuff from the game store, thereby supporting both Paizo and local business.
But back to the main thread. I love this book. I got the PDF here due to Amazon's issues. I will get a hardcopy as well, and if Amazon contineus to be jerks about it, I'll get it from the locals.

So, I got a response from Amazon...
"I apologize for the unexpected delay of your order. I have researched the availability of "Pathfinder Adventure Path: Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition" and learned that its release has been delayed until January 8, 2013."
o_O
...preorder hardcovers from here will ship on July 18th, yes? I have two groups that have been waiting for this game for months!

And has been stated before, it's Amazon not updating their dates appropriately. There's nothing Paizo can do about that. Street date is July 18th. Amazon will have their order around that date, and will fulfill orders around that time, regardless of what gibberish their customer service maybe spouting at this time...this happens EVERY time Paizo has a hardcover release.

I know that Paizo can't do anything about it. I was asking because I was considering just switching to ordering directly from here since Amazon utterly fails at customer service. Thanks for the attitude.

Sorry if that came across as attitude. I was just trying to say, don't worry about your Amazon order. I'm sure it will ship shortly after street date, as that is their normal MO.

The Rise of the Runelords PDF is tied to the having the AP subscription, not the RPG sub. So the starting volume in question is Pathfinder AP #58, not the Character Folio.
Just subscribed and ordered! I've been excited about RotRL since I played it in the beta test! So happy to get my own copy (and updated, too!) to run a group of brand new players through! (none have ever played a tabletop rpg before, so this should be interesting).
Good to know what to order to get the pdf for free... those maps will come in handy for sure. Not too fond of starting an AP in the middle (Skulls and Shackles itself isn't all that interesting to me), but Shattered Star after it is worth the wait!

Stebehil |

Note to Paizo: the high price of his product is an issue.
Well... high is a relative term. Considering the page count and the work that went into it, the price is ok. In absolute terms, it is high for a RPG product, yes. That amazon gives huge discounts (probably because they buy in bulk) does not say anything about the original price.

So, do you go to a Bentley dealership and comment that you should only have to pay what you would at a Kia dealership?
Really, look at this product from a wide angle rather than from a narrow point of view:
1) To purchase all six modules of any AP, even from Amazon, is more more expensive than what Paizo is asking for this book.
2) You can't even get all six modules of the RotRL AP, unless you go to the collectors market--which is more expensive.
3) Even if you get your hands on all six, you have to convert it to PFRPG.
4) Paizo has conveniently compiled and converted all six modules (they even added extra stuff) in one convenient hard bound book.
5) This book is offered at 50% of what it would cost to purchase all six individually (assuming all were available).
6) The PDF of this book is offered at 50% of what it would cost to purchase all six individually.
7) The PDF will have interactive maps...FTW!
8) I can print out the player handouts from the PDF so I don't have to cut up the pages of my pretty book.
So, yes, you can pick up the book cheaply elsewhere (which comes with its own set of headaches), but does that mean that Paizo has inappropriately priced this product? Not at all.
EDIT: added bullet points.

To play devil's advocate, theres a bunch of stuff in the individual AP volumes that will NOT be reprinted in this compilation as well...most of the supporting articles.

Pretty much the jerkiest thing to say. You know paizo makes money selling on amazon too don't you?
I swear much as I love paizo products theres a reason why the community occasionally is looked down on :/

Ah, ok, I am sorry for taking it the wrong way. Hopefully you are right. I mean, I really don't mind waiting a bit since the minis won't be released until August anyway... and I am apparently forbidden from starting until the minis have arrived.
And the PDF with the handouts is a very nice addition, I must say. Bravo, Paizo, bravo.
Considering I get the PDF as well if I preorder here, I am canceling my Amazon preorder.

You only get the pdf if you're an Adventure Path Subscriber when this ships.
The Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition is not part of any subscription, but Pathfinder Adventure Path subscribers who preorder this book will receive a free PDF edition of this book when the print edition ships. (Note that you will need to have an active AP subscription at the time the Anniversary Edition ships in order to receive the PDF for free.)

The print copy at least seems fine to me.
Both. The PDF price is a issue as I'm not going to get a PDF that is more expensive then the book, but ordering from Amazon puts this out of the impulse purchase category. The MSRP is also higher than I'm willing to pay ($40-$50) but the Amazon price renders that a non-issue. I suspect that the price will hamper retail sales in the US.

*shrugs* Given the fact that several people shelled out three-digit numbers for books of similar size (Slumbering Tsar and Rappan Athuk, anyone?) indicates that there is, indeed, a market for books of this size and price.
