Good morning all! I know this AP is really old, but my RL gaming group is getting back together for the first time in a while and they want me to run this game for them. Reading back through some of the material and I got to wondering... How essential is Ameiko, as an NPC character, to the campaign? Is it possible to have one of the PCs themselves actually be the Jade Throne's heir without messing with the story too much? I feel like the people that are gonna be in my gaming group would be a lot more invested in the story if it was one of them who was the impetus for the adventure, rather than a particular NPC.

Sorry guys! Last couple days were really busy; it was the seniors last couple of days at the high school I teach at. Making sure everything was squared away for 40 or so that I have. On to the level up! Level: +1 Bard(Archaeologist) HP: [+6 (5+1); total 33 Skill Points: 12 (9 Adventuring + 3 Background)
--Background Skills:
Feats: +1 (Precise Shot - finally!) Special Abilities: Archaeologist's Luck(+2); Lore Master (1/day) Spells: +1 lv2 spell - Having a hard time deciding here and would like some second opinions. I want either Invisibility (losing Vanish for a different spell), Heroism, or Suggestion. If I replace Vanish with Invisibility, I'll use the 5th-level spell switch to replace Vanish; otherwise, I'll drop Sleep and replace the dropped 1st-level spell with either Comprehend Languages or Anticipate Peril (to cast on Terana if we're anticipating a fight). Any thoughts?

Whoops! You're right! I actually think I did that for level 2 also...I'll check it when I get home and correct it if I've got it wrong. On an unrelated note...It's finally Last Jedi day! Woo!!

Gotta say, the gunslinger archetype looks pretty cool, not just for the light-bending but also for the skill swaps and for the bonus to perception for keeping a grit point. Perception is just so universal, and having Know(Arcana) ties straight into the Mad Shootist prestige class.
Might be a silly question with an obvious answer, but... From the Pathfinder SRD:
Quote: This bright silver or gold +3 chainmail is so fine and light that it can be worn under normal clothing without betraying its presence. It has a maximum Dexterity bonus of +8, an armor check penalty of –2, and an arcane spell failure chance of 15%. It is considered light armor and allows the wearer to use fly on command (as the spell) once per day. So...what kind of action does it take to activate the flight? Is it a standard action, since casting the spell is a standard action? Is it a move action, since movement is a move action? Or is it a free action, since it specifies that the use of it is activated "on command"?

I'm definitely excited for the Azlant AP! I'm not an AP subscriber any more because my bookshelf is full and I really don't ever get to play anyway, but I've got a Catfolk Archaeologist that's eager for a backstory and adventure.

"I agree; you did not have to submit yourself so willingly to our efforts, and your willingness to abide by our decisions as caretakers of this community speak well of your ability to contribute to Hopefeld. I, too, would welcome another experienced sword in the training of the recruits to the military establishment. Not to mention I would be loathe to ask of you a weapon so storied and important to you."
For what it's worth, I would definitely be interested in playing in a solo AP. Never done it before and I'm always up for trying new things! The PC-NPC dynamics seem like they'd be really interesting for a solo-er. As for which APs might be best to run in that way, I would concur with those who've said Jade Regent, since there are already other NPCs that could step in to assist if needed and the AP is already designed to play up the relationships between the PC and the NPCs, and Kingmaker; a you could always have the PC hire NPCs for the various kingdom roles and having a solo game would definitely heighten the "King-maker" aspect of it.
From reading what I've read thus far, I think the character idea that grabs me the most is a Dwarven Gunsmith. Even have a picture I found that would fit my mental picture of him very well! The idea of playing a gunsmith has always been really interesting to me but they've always felt like kind of a strange addition to the traditional fantasy environment. For Zeitgeist, though? I think a gunsmith would fit very well! I'm going to put together a character with that concept in mind as soon as I can.
Your Benevolent Dictator wrote: To start things off, tell me about yourself. How long have you been playing Pathfinder? What do you like/dislike about the system? Are you experienced with the PbP format? If you are, but your game/s ended early, what happened? What kind of combat/social balance do you like? Do you have previous experience with the Zeitgeist AP? That sort of thing. Make me like you. :-) I'll do my best! I've been playing Pathfinder since the system was released; I've been tabletop gaming since I started college fifteen years ago. My first gaming experience was with a D&D 3.0 game; Since then I've played games in D&D 3.5, Alternity, d20 Star Wars, WEG Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer 40K Deathwatch, Shadowrun, Deadlands, Heroes Unlimited, Rifts, Cthulhu, and Serenity, to name the ones I can recall right now. I've been playing Pathfinder specifically since the Jade Regent AP was first published. I've only been on one face-to-face Pathfinder game, when I ran Second Darkness for a group of friends; teaching high school keeps me pretty busy and my main GM friend is already running Deathwatch and D&D 4E and I'm pretty much limited to one sit-down gaming session a month. I love PbP gaming, though, and have played in a total of fourteen games, though only three are active right now. Out of the eleven that ended prematurely, ten of them were because the GM disappeared; the last was a Kingmaker game that I was forced to drop out of due to real-life circumstances beyond my control several years ago. I like how similar Pathfinder is to my initial experiences of roleplaying; I teach engineering and I've always been good with numbers, so the detailed nature of the number-crunching in the game has always appealed to me. I suppose the only thing about it that doesn't appeal to me is the time investment that a real-life game takes; I have friends that game every Saturday for eight or ten hours and I'm just too busy for that kinda thing. That's probably why I like PbP gaming so much, though; I can check the message board and spend a twenty or thirty minutes catching up, thinking of a response, and posting it before getting back to grading papers or whatever else I'm having to do. I tend to like a good mix of combat and social situations and don't really strongly favor one or the other. The classes I have experience playing are many: Fighter, Ranger, Oracle, Inquisitor, Druid, Mesmerist, and Bard. Probably the only class I've never played before is a full arcane caster. If I were to state my preference, I would say that I like playing social situations more than combat; I like the opportunity to really think about how a given character would react in different social situations. I don't have any experience with the Zeitgeist AP, but I know of it, and have begun reading through the electronic copy of the Player's Guide I have on my flash drive. I very much like the different-ness of the setting; the last book I read was The Aeronaut's Windlass, the first of Jim Butcher's new steampunk series, and probably my favorite character ever was a Eberron Artificer/Elemental Binder, and that setting is pretty reminiscent of steampunk to my mind. I'm looking forward to digging into the Zeitgeist player's guide and learning more about the setting! I think that answers the questions you have, though maybe a bit too wordily. If you've got any follow-up questions to ask, I'd be happy to answer them!
I'd love to try out a Warpriest for this AP, specifically a warpriest of Sarenrae, but wanted to ask a question: the "True Devotion" trait only mentions one additional use of a domain power or inquisition power per day. Do y'all think it'd be fair to allow a player one additional use of Blessing per day since Warpriests don't use traditional a traditional domain/inquisition?
Dotting for definite interest. Since I haven't ever played a clerical-type character in years, I'm leaning that way. The player's guide recommends disenchanters as a good option for this AP, I'm probably going to whip up something along those lines. Matter of fact, I'll pretty much go ahead and say for sure either a human or half-elf Warpriest (Disenchanter) of Sarenrae to get that nailed down. I'll have time to post build and a backstory soon; if not tomorrow, before the weekend is out, for sure!
Also Re: Zeitgeist How does the Zeigeist setting compare to Eberron? That was always one of my favorites, particularly because I just had a great deal of fun with the Artificer I had in that campaign. Are there any additional classes in the Zeitgeist setting that would reflect the kind of "magical engineer" feel that the artificer had?
Posting an update to the character list to make sure the list is comprehensive and up-to-date. Feravan Woodward, NG Male Human Druid
I don't know how you wanted to handle multiple submissions, DM Jesse, so I'll just note that the last two were submitted by the same person. I hope this is helpful to you and the current members of your party!

Relevant passage quoted/bolded: DM Jesse Heinig wrote: Short version: 20 point buy, Pathfinder races and classes, oddball races will be much harder to convince (but there are some options that are possible there), and you can use gunslingers, Occult adventurers, etc. Yes you can take a drawback to get an extra trait, no you can't take a flaw for a bonus feat, and this campaign will use background skills. No gestalts or mythic adventures.
Another question: I want to take the pioneer trait, but the character I'm building is going to have practically no use for the horse. HeroLab doesn't even give you one for choosing the trait, so I don't care about dropping the horse entirely and just getting the skill bonus, but I want to run it by you first.
Dotting for interest here. I know you said all Paizo material, but I'm interested in making a Mesmerist, one of the new classes from Occult Adventures. Would you allow that? The class information can be located here.
Luthorne wrote: Have you considered the new mesmerist class from Occult Adventures? I actually hadn't even looked at the Occult Adventures stuff, but from a cursory look, it seems like a mesmerist might fit the bill that I'm looking for. Thanks!
I really want to play this but I'm having a hard time deciding exactly what I want to play, aside from something I haven't played before and that I want to play a socially skilled character; sort of a "lady's man" type, but not a rake, philanderer, etc. I realize a Bard is pretty much right up that alley, but it just...isn't what I'm looking for. I'm a Bard in another PbP right now and don't really have any interest in playing one again...same for a Rogue, Inquisitor, and Ranger. I've been leaning toward a Lore Oracle, with the Sidestep Secret thing, but Sorcerer is certainly another option, and I haven't really had a chance to play either of those classes. I'm certainly willing to entertain suggestions!
Color me interested here. Always been a fan of anime, though honestly my interests tend to run somewhat more towards the harem-style stuff...more on the level of Shuffle! or Ai Yori Aoshi than the fan service-y stuff that's so prevalent. Either way, I can't get started on anything right now since I'm at work, but if inspiration hits me during the day, I'll definitely be back.
