Hell's Rebel's Rebellion Sheet

1 to 50 of 56 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Welcome one and all. I have decided to start my own Hell's Rebels as I've yet to get into a game of it. The player's guide for the campaign is free online so please read it and make an appropriate character.

Character Creation Guidelines:

Starting Level: PC will start at 1st level.
Alignment: Any Non-Evil. The campaign encourages Chaotic Good themed.
Ability Scores: 20 point buy.
Class: Any Paizo, I am willing to look at 3PP items if you can send me a link.
Race: Any Core race or recommended race in the players guide is fine. Any paizo may be used with a good story reason.
HP: Max HP at 1st level. All other levels are rolled. At each level you may attempt to reroll each past level and take the greater result.
Traits: 2 traits, one of which must be a Campaign Trait. You may take a Drawback for additional traits. You also gain a "Reason for Protesting" mini-trait.
Base Starting Money Maximum starting wealth for your class.

Additional Rules
Automatic Bonus Progression from Pathfinder unchained.
Background Skills from unchained will be used.
Unchained Summoner must be used, all other unchained classes are optional.

I would like your Background done in the following way. Any additional is appreciated, but this is your minimum.

Step 1: write five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character. You don’t have to stop at five, if you like…this is just a minimum.

Example: Martin Tenbones:

1) He is a former pirate and retired adventurer and now owns a tavern in the city of St. Clarice.
2) He is outgoing and charismatic, and attempts to keep abreast of all the local gossip and juicy secrets that pass his way, because he believes that knowledge is power.
3) He and his former adventuring band fought against the forces of the pirate captain Craven, who was a major lieutenant for the current Dread Pirate Hellbeard. He used the wealth that he acquired to build his tavern, but he sometimes worries that the pirates may one day decide to find him and extract revenge.
4) Though he is still friends with most of his former adventuring mates, some of them parted the group on bad terms. His girlfriend went back to the sea to fight pirates once more, but he received word that her vessel was taken by Hellbeard and believes she was killed. He mourns her death.
5) Although he is retired, he can be convinced to adventure again if he hears that Sasha (his lost love) may still be alive, or if he is contacted by the White Foxes during a crisis (see secrets).

Step 2: List two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game. During any session in which you take positive action to achieve that goal, I will award you an action point that can only be used in scenes furthering that goal. These Action Points are separate from the action points you gain by resting and reaching milestones. You can change goals later, though you lose all the accumulated Action Points for the goal you abandoned.

Example: Martin Tenbones:

1) I would like to see Martin reunited with his lost love and perhaps able to mend fences with some of his former adventuring buddies over the course of this campaign.
2) It would be cool to have Martin face and possibly defeat the Dread Pirate Hellbeard once and for all.

Step 3: List two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!

Example: Martin Tenbones:

1) Martin is a member of the White Fox Society, a secret society dedicated to keeping Coralton free of tyranny and evil, as well as keeping local governments honest. He provides information and rumors to them, but can be convinced to take a more active roll if
2) Sasha LeBell, Marin's lost love, is still alive. She was captured by the Dread Pirate Hellbeard and has been kept as his captive for all these years.
3) (Example of a secret I might make up about your character): Not only is Sasha alive, but also she has escaped captivity and killed Hellbeard. She has taken over his ship and crew, and has turned to piracy out of bitterness. She now IS the new Dread Pirate Hellbeard!

Step 4: Describe three people that are tied to the character though blood, romance or honor. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. All can do something useful for you, if you can get the situations to line up. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

Example: Martin Tenbones:

1) Martin's friend Audric Cwellen was one of his adventuring mate. Audric, a holy warrior in the service of the Goddess of Love, is the leader of the local cell of the White Fox society, and provides Martin with information and adventure hooks.
2) Another of Martin's old traveling companions, Aubrey LeVaine, is not as helpful as Audric, because they quarreled over the love of Sasha, and Aubrey is still bitter about losing her to Martin. Still, he can provide some magical support if Martin can convince him to let go of his hate.
3) Yebin Thistledown is a strange little creature from the Feywild called a gnome. Martin met the gnome in the Shroudmist Forest and saved him from a pack of Howlers. The Gnome makes all sorts of alchemical items and gadgets, and loves collecting odd souvenirs and items, as well as "recreational herbs." He operates a bizarre patchwork shop in the Rue Angélique district.

Step 5: Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

Example: Martin Tenbones:

1) Martin remembers growing up in a tavern as a young boy, helping his mother with the cooking. This started his own interest in the culinary arts.
2) Martin remembers the panic he felt when he discovered that the ship he signed on to was a pirate ship after a brutal attack on a merchantman. He vividly recalls the smell of blood and burning timbers.
3) Martin often recalls the goodbye kiss he gave Sasha when she left him. No kiss he's had since ever compares to that memory.

Houserules!
Detect skills (chaos, law, good, evil) only function against characters and classes that specifically have auras. (IE a cleric). It does not detect a characters alignment. This is done mostly for a story game play idea for me.
I also use Trailblazer RPG's replacement for iterative attacks.

Trailblazer's iterative attack:

At 6th level a character's iterative attacks is there attack at -2/-2
At 11th level a character's iterative attacks is there attack at -1/-1
At 16th level a character's iterative attacks is there attack at 0/0.

Last, I want to know what times you are active on the forums and how often you can post.

If you have any questions at all, please post or PM me. I am happy to do whatever I can to bring in the best team possible.

What about race?

Yay! I was hoping that another Hell's Rebels would pop up. I'll work on fixing up Sam to your specifications later.

Would you allow a Warlord?

I'm thinking a CG Human or Aasimar Warder from Andoran (potentially a member of the Eagle Knights) in town to promote freedom and gently foment rebellion against the evil oppressive regime known as Thrune.

As far as a basic personality, I am thinking of the sort of person who goes to rallies to try to agitate people into rioting. He is an attack dog that needs a direction or he may start causing general mayhem. More then likely a human Alchemist. Would you be willing to allow me to take the Fire Bomber Archetype, and possibly other suitable Goblin feats?

Warlord is acceptable. Neat ideas, seems decently balanced. Reminds me of Book of 9 swords.

Slight concern it could overshadow other classes, but as long as it is well built and not cheesed I would give it fair consideration.

Here is a start. Character Sheet updates coming soon.

Background:
When Edgerson had finished his formal training at the Cheliaxian Academy it was time to leave Westcrown. The political climate there was not conducive to a broad thinking and energetic young Tiefling. His father and mother had both been and killed by the Shadowbeasts that roamed the city after dark. It now seems that there are rumors that the killing was not just a random accident of being caught outside after dark but something more politically based. Further investigation found that several of Asmodean priests had visited his parents and were now looking for him.
Fearing that he may be the next target he quickly settled the affairs of his parents . Selling everything he could not carry to pay for passage on the a ship leaving the harbor. He changed ships in every port to hopefully lose any pursuers. The last ship had stopped in the port Kintargo where his funds had run out.

He has found work in the Redroof district at local apothecary where the owner, Vanessa , lets him stay in a room above the shop. He has avoided anyone related to the Temple of Asomdeus and renounced his former god. The sins of his parent are no longer his concern but he is sure that they will follow him where ever he goes.

Things were going well until Barzillai Thrune show up. He has imposed martial law and issued several ridiculous proclamations. The first one seemed almost normal. Ridding the city of disease carrying vermin would help increase the health of the city and put coin in the pockets of it citizens. The second was helped promote citizenship by having every member of the city recognize who are queen is. Edgerson was sure that most of the population has no clue what she looked like.

Then they started to get weird. He found out what the feral dogs were for when he was making a deliver for Vanessa. He has seen the "dog housing" and was revolted by the notion. He has now begun a campaign to put down any dogs that he finds.

Tea and mint were both stables of the apothecary business. Vanessa had gotten rid of all the mint before the soldiers had arrived to inspect the shop. She still offered medicinal tea but with copy of the proclamation instructing the drinker to only imbibe during the day.

Vanessa stated that she is going to a peaceful gathering to protest the martial law that has been imposed. He has decided to tag along if for no other reason than to keep Vanessa safe.

Campaign Trait = Ex-Asmodean Reason for being at the rally= Tagging Along

The 5 Steps:

Step 1
1) As a student of the Chelaxian Academy in Westcrown learned that the elements never hurt him like they did other people. He explored this and found that his heritage protected him from the elements and he found that the elements made an excellent weapon. He strives to increase his knowledge of Evocation Magic [Admixture Wizard with Elemental Protection thru race, traits, and feats]

2) Edgerson was never one to plan ahead. Impulsive and quick to act separated him from his fellow students at the Chelaxian Academy in Westcrown. While others planned and plotted against him he would strike first and worry about the aftermath later. [Chaotic nature in a Lawful realm]

3) His parents were devote Asmodeans. They were often consulted on religious matters by the priest of Asomdeus. Something went wrong and his parents were killed by the church [Ex-Asmodean trait]

4) The Shadow Hounds of Westcrown frightened him. He has a fear of canines which has grown even stronger after his parents were mauled by the creatures. [Hates dogs and finds the new sport of "doghousing" disturbing]

5) Claws for hands, black scales for skin, and even a tail all made him stand out, even among his fellow Tieflings. He was well aware of the prejudice of the other humanoid races against his kind. Finding a home outside Cheliax would be difficult. He finds it easier to hide among his own people. [He lives and works in the Redroof district of Kintargo]

Step 2
1) I would like to see Edgerson stand in the middle of his own area of effect spell and blast the enemies around him while he takes no damage. Imagine centering a fireball on himself and then walking out over the burning corpses of his enemy.

2) He is always looking for a way to get even with the church of Asmodeus for destroying his life in Westcrown.

Step 3
1) Dead dogs have been turning up all over the Redroof District but no one know who has been killing them. The one constant in all of the deaths is that they have been killed by elemental magic. Edgerson has been on the hunt for them ever since Barzillai Thrune implemented doghousing.

2) Edgerson never found out why the church killed his parents but the reason was that they were asked to sacrifice their son in a ritual the their god. The ritual still needs to be completed and agents of Asmodeus are on his trails.

Step 4
1) Vanessa (Human Female) is his current land lord and employer in Kintargo. She runs and apothecary in the Redroof district. Edgerson helps craft the elixirs and herbal remedies for her customers. He also offers some protection for the business. Who wants to mess with Tiefling that looks as scary as he does?

2) Cezar (Tiefling Male) is the owner of The Devil's Threads. Due to Edgerson's odd physical nature he has to order special clothing. Cezar has welcomed the challenge and made several outfits for Edgerson. They have become close friends and spend a lot of evening together for dinner. Edgerson often runs errands for Cezar or accompanies him when he feels the need for extra security.

3) Sgt. Wilmer (Human Male) is a guard at the Temple of Asmodeus. When Edgerson first arrived in Kintargo he had a run in with the sergeant. Edgerson had saved a small tiefling child from being trample by Wilmer's horse. Wilmer never say what exactly happened but his horse reared up and threw him to the ground. When he sat up he saw Edgerson leading the child to safety. They locked eyes and both knew that an enemy had been made that day.

Step 5
1) He remembers his first spell almost burned down the academy. That was the day the bullies at the school started to steer clear of him.

2) He remembers the times that he spent with this parents at the dinner table discussing the current political climate in Westcrown. Times were hard but his family had connections with the church that kept them out of trouble with the governor and other noble families.

3) The sea voyage to Kintargo is still fresh on his mind. It started as a necessity but soon became quite enjoyable. Life on the sea agreed with him.

Hey DM_Kumo Gekkou, is that Leonardo I see hiding behind that mask ;)

A quick question, your title includes "(theater of the mind)" does that mean you will not be using maps? Or does it have some other nefarious meaning?

It means I will not be using maps, tokens, etc.

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Would it be possible to play a teenage character (about 15-16), I have an idea for an Artful Dodger/Jimmy the Hand type character that I think would be so great for this.

Sure!

Again, do you mind if I take an archetype and feats meant for Goblins?

I would prefer racial only things to stay racial only. Sorry.

Hm. Definitely want to get in on a Hell's Rebels, not sure if I have the time for another game...dotting in case I get up the gumption.

How about if a solid number of my maneuvers come from the Golden Lion (and possibly Silver Crane) discipline, which tend to be party aiding in nature?

Also would an Aasimar be ok? I'm thinking I want to play a member of the Empyreal Guardians to gain access to the aforementioned Silver Crane discipline and it would fit pretty well flavor wise.

Silver Crusade

My friend and I are looking for a Hell's Rebels game. We have a couple of PCs created (for a different Hell's Rebels PbP) that we can alter to match your requirements. For now, here is Raven Silvertongue.

Concept:

1. Raven grew up on the streets of Old Kintargo
2. Her mother was a member of the Gray Spiders, but addiction left little time for her to spend with Raven
3. Raven never knew her father, not even his name
4. When the Order of the Torrent raided the Lucky Bones, burnt it down, and killed her mother, Raven has survived as a pick-pocket, a petty thief, and running errands for local business owners in Old Kintargo.
5. Through a failed pick-pocket attempt, Raven got a job as a stage hand at the Kintargo Opera House

Goals:

1. Raven seeks companionship and yearns to be a loyal member of a respectable group
2. Raven seeks revenge on those who shut down the Opera House and those who oppress the poor

Secrets:

1. Raven knows the Opera House well as she used to sneak around and explore during her time as a stage hand.
2. Raven's father was a former member of the Silver Ravens and even named Raven before he left on never returned.

Raven Silvertongue and I would be honored.

Concept for Margenda an aged female cleric of Milani

5 things about Margenda:

1) She is of advanced age and she wants to leave the world a better place and if she dies doing so, so be it.
2)She is a member of the Rose of Kintargo and has been hiding out, news of the Silver Ravens has brought her out of hiding.
3)She is a kind motherly type, but can fiercely protect those she holds dear.
4)She was alive in the days before the Thrune empire and remembers Cheliax's former glory and often pines away for it.
5)She is not physically strong, and probably would not be doing this if the circumstances were not so dire.

2 Goals:

1) Her main goal, and reason for protesting, is to find out what happened to her son, Thomas. He ran off to join the Silver Ravens and has not been seen since martial law was declared. (Meeting a Contact from Player's Guide)
2) Ultimately Margenda would like to see some balance, she is old enough and pragmatic enough to know she is not going to fully defeat evil, but she wants to secure a place of safety within her community for her friends and family.

Secrets:

1) Margenda's son is not hers. She found him abandoned with a rose attached to him. She never shared this with him.
2)Margenda does not know that her son has been killed.

Margenda's Associations:

1) Margenda's oldest friend is Yolandi Cassus, a secret follower of Milani since Margenda cured her of a foul plague, but she gives lip service to diabolism and keeps her head down. Yolandi wants nothing to do with the rebellion, but is loyal to Margenda
2)Roberto Vanz is an understudy of Margenda's and her son's best friend. Roberto tried to warn Thomas about the dangers of joining the Silver Ravens, but Thomas did not listen and Roberto feels responsible
3)Zelmir Seric is a local merchant and follower of Abadar. He once perused Margenda for marriage aggressively, to avoid him Margenda exposed his double dealings with arms runners from Molthune and he lost everything. He secretly plots to get his revenge.

Memories:

1)She remembers reading her first history book in the local library, and in later years when Thrune took over seeing that book burned as a heretical history. Margenda learned the value of history then.
2)She remembers her first day receiving the a rose from her priesthood signifying her first step into her holy duties.
3)Margenda remembers the fight she had with Thomas when he ran out to join the Silver Ravens, and hopes that anger will not be the last thing spoken to him.

Here are the points for Johan:

5 things about Johan:

1 Johan grew up as a backstage rat, the son of a performer.
2. He learned swordfighting from a master who ended his career teaching the finer points to the actors at the opera house.
3. His fencing master left suddenly, just as Johan was feeling he was becoming competent
4. He has become a sort of protege to Shensen, who helped him land his first big role (which he cannot perform since the Opera House has been taken over).
5. He has struck up a close friendship with Raven Silvertongue, who unsuccessfully tried to pickpocket him after one performance. He managed to get her a job backstage so she doesn't have to steal anymore (at least not all the time).

goals:

1. Find Shensen, avenge her if necessary
2. Perform a major role in an opera at the opera house.
3. Find out what happened to his fencing master, Ciamataro.

secrets:

1. Johan has a huge crush on Raven, that she doesn't know about.
2. Master Ciamataro works for Barzillai Thrune.

associates:

The obvious ones are Raven Silvertongue, Shensen and Master Ciamataro, but also would include the backstage manager, Conrad.

memories:

1. The first time he saw Raven, when she tried to pickpocket him.
2. The first touch he finally got on his master.
3. The feeling he had when he found out he had landed his first big role.

Silver Crusade

Here is the rest of the info for Raven as the site won't allow me back in to edit and finish my previous post.

Contacts:

1. Johan - a backup performer at the Opera House and fellow PC
2. Setrona - the owner of the Tooth and Nail has often hired Raven to run errands and a few, not so honest, jobs.
3. Sabo - the manager of the Holding House. Raven hates Sabo for how she treats the poor and the outcasts. But, she is also afraid of Sabo for the power she seems to have.

Memories:

1. Raven remembers playing in Aria Park as a child and how she was always quicker and more dexterous than the other children.
2. Raven remembers a kind old man at the Lucky Bones who taught her how to shoot a bow.
3. Raven remembers her first opera, where Shensen the bard performed at the Opera House while Raven was a stage hand.

My posting time for this game can be flexible. I can typically post during the day and evening (Pacific Time).

DM_aka_Dudemeister presents Tom Quicksilver (click profile for character).

I can usually post twice a day before work and after work. I live in Australia so my posting times might be a bit odd.

How long will the recruitment be open.
Also I work nights so my hours are a little weird. I am in the US central time zone. So I can check in the afternoon before work and around 4am after work.

I have been wanting to get to play with an Alchemist for the longest time. They are a full looking class and great buffers after a few levels. Though I can just as easily shift to an Investigator. Probably going into the Noble Scion or Shadowdancer. I have always wanted to try those to prestige classes out. Most likely I would stick with human for the race. The Rose of Kintargo is defiantly interesting and I think I will want to be using them for some of the background.

Since you are using the Automatic Bonus Progression will this be a low magical item game?

I was planning on leaving recruitment until either the end of this month or the end of the first week of next month depending on interest. Thank you everyone for the interest so far. It will not be low magic, just will not be using the "big 6". Your wealth will be down some due to not having those items, but you also don't have to buy them so it should work out. I'll adjust as necessary beyond that.

Assimar and Tieflings are fine, just build them up and let me see. I prefer to use the versions in the ARG, but if you like something else just ask what you want I'll see. I am very flexible when it comes to player freedom.

Here is some info on the PC I plan on submitting Darrien KennelMaster (Halfing/ frontliner). He is definitely going to be something martial leaning Urban Ranger but might go another direction. How do you feel about animal companions?

Step 1::
Write five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character. You don’t have to stop at five, if you like…this is just a minimum.

1) Darrien is a slave who serves at Jhaltero Manor as the Master of the Kennels.
2) He has a way with people and animals.
3) Darrien has a knack for getting out of work.
4) Always willing to share a smoke or a joke, to steal a kiss or a pinch from a willing lass.
5) Although he is slave and unconcerned with politics, he can be convinced to join the rebellion to impress Alia (or another woman).

Step 2:
List two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game. During any session in which you take positive action to achieve that goal, I will award you an action point that can only be used in scenes furthering that goal. These Action Points are separate from the action points you gain by resting and reaching milestones. You can change goals later, though you lose all the accumulated Action Points for the goal you abandoned.

1) I think it would be cool (and maybe a stretch) if he earned the freedom for all the slaves in the city.
2) It would be cool to have to face and possibly defeat his original master Lord Sarini or the head of the dottari.

Step 3:
List two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!

1) Darrien secretly worships Desna. (known)
2) Alia the Halfling he came to the rally with is an informant for or member of the dottari. (not known)

Step 4:
Describe three people that are tied to the character though blood, romance or honor. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. All can do something useful for you, if you can get the situations to line up. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

1) Kelli (Halfling slave) kitchen helper from the Jhaltero house always willing to sneak him some extra food, cover for his absence, or help hide him.
2) Lady Jhaltero his owner, has a soft spot for Darrien and is often willing to share information with him.
3) Alia the Halfling he came to the rally with. (Hostile)

Step 5:
Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

1) Watching father being whipped by Darrien’s previous owner Lord Sarini.
2) His first day of work in the in the kennels of the Jhaltero estate.
3) The taste of Kelli’s (kitchen helper at Jhaltero Manor and slave) grilled mushroom caps, makes his mouth water just thinking about them.

Last/ Post Times:
I want to know what times you are active on the forums and how often you can post.

I am very active in the forums and post several time a day. I can commit to posting at least 2 times a day 6am-8am EST and 8pm-10pm EST.

Appearance:

On his way to the kitchens Darrien stops in front of a mirror in the entry hall of Jhaltero Manor. He places the picnic basket he was carrying down and takes a second to gaze at his reflection in the mirror. He smiles at his likeness, it was an open an honest smile that won him many a friend and disarmed many a lass. Darrien mused that while he was not yet 30 years old the reflection looking back at him seemed, not only older, but more competent or experienced then his years. He stood a little over 3 feet tall and was well muscled like greyhound, broad in the shoulders and narrow at the waist, and he carried himself with an air of confidence and the swagger of a veteran.

As Darrien continued looking at his reflection he noticed his eyes, they are same color of the sky right before a storm, but it is more than their color that draws his attention, his gaze appears knowing and penetrating. His eyes are set in a well-proportioned and tanned face which is framed by curly auburn flowing hair, with a small goatee, and tufts of hair on his feet the same color.

He nods approvingly as he gives himself one last look over. Yes, yes, it all went well together and brought out the blue highlights in his eyes. All perfectly coordinated from the light brown pants and the thick dark brown belt around his waist to the loose dark blue shirt and a grey cloak that reached to his knees. Impeccable, he decided hoping Alia would appreciate the effort. With one last smile Darrien concludes, as nice as the outfit he was wearing was he was just as happy that he couldn’t tell he was wearing a chain shirt underneath it all and that his sling staff was concealed under his cloak.

He thought, enough admiring yourself, you are acting like a maiden going to her first ball. Darrien grabs his picnic basket and heads toward the kitchens. You can hear him whistling a merry tune as he makes his way down the hall.

Personality:

“What do you think you’re doing in my kitchen dog master?” A melodic voice questions Darrien as he enters the kitchen.

Darrien looks up to see one of the kitchen helpers, Kelli, smiling at him. He smiles back noticing that the room is filled by several halflings. He knows right away the head cook is away by the carefree attitude of those sitting around the kitchen counter.

“Darrien, what brings you here this time of day second breakfast isn’t for another hour.” the familiar cook inquires, “Are you hear to partake of Milandra’s charms.” Milandra, another cook’s helper blushes and the others in the room give a quick chuckle.

“Probably shirking another task,” Chimes in Rab, as swarthy halfling with a sour disposition, who was assigned as a groom in the stables.

Darrien approaches the group and takes a seat at the counter top next to Kelli and answers, “Not today.”

“I wound up having to clean the stables yesterday because you skipped out on another task,” the groom continues heatedly.

“Pay him no mind Darrien,” Kelli interjects and smiles, “By the looks of things you’ll be wanting that basket filled.” She motions Mellandra to come over and says to her, “Be dear and fill this basket up.” She turns toward Darrien and asks with a raised eyebrow, “For two?”

Rab raises his voice interjecting, “Of course it’s for two.” He continues, “I know all about you Darrien, you’re an arrogant, philanderer, and the mistresses little pet, off on another dalliance while we are stuck here doing the work.”

“You forgot slothful and I have a tendency to talk with my mouthful. Also, technically, I’ am more of a womanizer than a philanderer,” he grins at the groom.

“And smartass,” the groom retorts.

“True, true,” Darrien chuckles. And continues, “Now friend, I’ll be the first to admit that there is a fine line between arrogance and self-confidence and that sometimes I cross that line. But I say what’s wrong with enjoying a good laugh, a clever joke, a strong drink, a willing wench, or a relaxing smoke? Some would label these as bad vices or excesses, but to me they add savor to our lives.”

“And full of crap,” adds the groomsman. “I’m tired of pulling you load.”

“Well, that was unfortunate business with the stables yesterday. Unlucky for you, but a lucky turn for me. And let’s be honest friend, a sturdy fellow like yourself can handle the extra duties.” He pauses and shrugs, “I’m afraid if didn’t do such a fine job of getting out of work I’d have no energy for my other pursuits, so to speak. Moreover, if I helped clean out the stables the grooms would probably lose their meager savings gambling with me and start beating their wives.” With a grin he finishes, “So as you can see the way it worked out is better for everyone.” Darrien concludes and begins to hum a slow melancholy tune.

Kelli faces the Groom and adds, “Now most people would conclude that Darrien is a rascal and they may very well be right. It is true that he is always willing to steal a kiss or a pinch, it is worth noting that he never takes more than is offered. Additionally, if they paid attention they would find that there is more to him lurking below the surface. The Darrien most of us know is gregarious and good natured and sees everyone as a potential friend.” She pauses while she stirs something in the pot on the fire, “Understandably, he might not be the first person you would think of if you wanted help cleaning the stables because he has an uncanny knack of slipping away from work. However, he isn’t doing anything we all haven’t tried, only he does it better than the rest of us.” With a soft chuckle she adds, “Nevertheless, he is the Mistresses first choice when she has a special task and when he is in charge of a project most of us follow him willingly. Most importantly, he is a fierce defender of his friends and cares little about what others think. It's not that he doesn't care about others but he believes that his well-being takes priority over theirs.” With a stern look at the groom she concludes, “Oh, and most importantly for you, he has a tendency to hum when he is angry.”

Background:

Darrien sits on an old red and white checkered table cloth in the shade, with his back leaning against a tree, at Aria Park smoking his pipe. As he waits for his companion, Alia, to arrive he looks over the little picnic he has set up and nods approvingly as he considers what he has brought, cold chicken, fresh bread, as well as several different types cheeses, assorted fruit, and a jug of sun tea. The onlything that could make it better would be some of Kelli’s grilled mushroom caps, he thinks as his mouth begins to water. He gave a little laugh as he recalls gathering the items with the kitchen staff and without the head cook noticing they were gone.

While he waits Darrien takes an occasional pull of his pipe, and watches the crowds gather in anticipation of today’s rally. He reaches down and pets Blue, one of his Lady’s hounds that he has taken a shining to. Tap, tap, tap, Blue’s tail thumps against Darrien’s leg at the attention. He pets Blue again and takes another pull from his pipe.

He was lucky he was able to get away from his Mistresses’ estate today with all the changes going on in the city. Opportunely, he used Blue as an excuse to leave the grounds saying the animal needed some exercise. Darrien was thankful that his position as Kennel Master allowed him more freedom then the other slaves. Not that Mistress Aulamaxa was a hard taskmaster as most of the household slaves were treated well.

While he waits Darrien reminisces about his upbringing and his life as a slave. Slavery was all he has ever known, when he was 8 years hold he was separated from his family, who were slaves on the Sarini estate. Lord Sarini was a harsh taskmaster and treated his slaves poorly. His household was one where the slaves were routinely beaten for the slightest of reasons. Fortunately for Darrien he esd bought by the Jhaltero family who were known for treating there slaves well. On occasion he still gets word from his parents.

At young age it was recognized he had a way with animals and put to work in the stables. His way with people and animals eventually led to him being put in charge of the kennels. As Kennel Master he enjoyed the time he spent with the hounds and the freedom it allowed him. Over the years he had developed a keen eye for judging a dogs breeding qualities and had a knack for training the hounds. Darrien enjoyed his Mistresses favor and was often chosen to control the dogs on the hunts, or to lead special projects around the yard. And when he when he wasn't in charge he had an uncanny ability to get out of work.

Darrien waits he wonders, why does Alia have such an interest in these rallies and politics of the tall folk, doesn’t she realize how dangerous these things can be. Darrien shrugs as he remembers that the only reason he has agreed to come was to make sure Alia was safe, and with the growing crowd of humans she just might need his protection. Well woman and their fancies, he resigned himself to never fully understanding their ways. Nevertheless, he is prepared for the worse as he is wearing a chain shirt under his shirt and has his trusty sling-staff concealed under his cloak. Additionally, he smiles as he recalls the net and supplies he has hidden in the bottom of the picnic basket. He reaches down and pets Blue again, I can't forget about him.

He anxiously awaits for her arrival and another smile crosses his face as he imagines the happy look on Alia’s face when she sees his surprise picnic. His wait is not long as he see Alia and several of her friends purposefully making their way towards him. He is surprised that she is not alone, but he can’t help it as his hart races as she draws near. As she gets closer he stands up and raises his rich tenor voice in greeting, “Halloo.”

From the look on her face it is immediately apparent that she is not pleased but he is still unprepared for the tongue lashing she is about to give him. “What do you think you are doing?” She asks as she eyes the picnic he has set up. She doesn’t wait for an answer and continues, “This is a rally protesting the martial law imposed upon our city not some romp in the country side, or romantic interlude. Why did you think I invited you along for? For some silly Dalliance.”

One of her friends, a tall sallow looking youth, chimes in, “I told you it wasn’t a good idea to invite the lazy slip.”

Another plump lass chimes in saying, “Darrien has always had a reputation of being a fool and his mistress’s lap dog. It was a waste of time inviting him,” as she rolls her eyes.

Looking at Alia, Darrien sheepishly replies, “I thought a picnic would be a pleasant way to watch the rally and to be honest I am more interested in spending time with you then listening to political speeches.”

Alia turns red in the face and practically shouts, “Political speeches! I thought you understood, was everything you said a lie, do you even care about the tyranny and injustice our city is subjected to. Does the subjugation of Halflings mean nothing to you? I was a fool not to listen to my friends about you,” as she storms away.

Darrien mumbles, “It wasn’t I lie, I do miss my mint tea in the evening.”

Dazed Darrien picks up his picnic basket, turns toward the dog motioning with hand, "Come Blue." I do care I'll show them, I'm not some stupid slip, as he discreetly follows Alia and her friends, still hoping to keep her safe.

REASON TO PROTEST: Tagging along +2 to perception and initiative checks during the protest.
CAMPAIGN TRAIT: Natural Born leader.

I feel like animal companions should not overshadow a PC, but they are a fine addition to the game. The player's guide gives good recommendations to suitable choices.

So far this is the list of characters submitted. Surprised at how few have posted thus far. Still plenty of time left in the recruitment if anyone wants to join.

Edgerson Male Tiefling Wizard
Johan Felder Male Human Bard
Raven Silvertongue Female Human Rogue
Margenda Female Human Cleric (Milani)
Tom Quicksilver Male Human Rogue (Unchained)
Darrien Kennelmaster Male Halfling Ranger (urban ranger)

@DM, I have Friday off an will have my alias/sheet done by then.

Dotting with my Alias, I will have her stats all clean by time we start

Throwing this guy into the running. Barebones at the moment but being worked on.

Btw about the traits the way I read it, you have two traits and one must be a AP trait. So a total of 2, not counting a bonus from a drawback. Not 2 with a AP trait for a total of 3 right?

Silver Crusade

Raven Silvertongue has been updated to match your requirements. See Statblock under my profile.

The "theater of the mind" is fine, I will finish up Taldo, just trying to spice up his story a little, never thought about my friendly neighborhood tanner having enemies...

Correct, you get 1 + 1 from the players guide. You may gain an additional trait by selecting a drawback.

Got a few steps, working on the rest. :)

Step 1:

1. Xador was born in Kintargo in the Redroof district to a absentee father he did not meet until he was three.
2. His father was a varisian caravan leader, upon returning to his wife in Kintargo and finding a new son he took them with him on his travels a few months after.
3. Xador spent the next seven years among his native people and culture. Learning their ways and secrets.
4. At a meeting of many caravans the circle of elders, a group made up of every caravan's elders, chose Xador as one of the children to receive a special tattoo tied to their future fate. Xador also received a single harrow card, which was burned as part of a ritual. Before the flames consumed them his card was of the wanderer but as it burned it became the joke.
5. At the age of ten his mother convinced his father to return to Kintargo, so that he could have a stable home while he pursued his education which had been confirmed was important to his fate years earlier by the elders.
6. Excelling at his studies, Xador is accepted to the Alabaster Academy at the age of eleven.

Step 2:

1. I would like to see Xador create his own small organization to claim or create a magic academy.
2. Create a unique summoning spell of grand scale and effect. But will settle for unique if that's asking to much.

Step 3:

1. Xador worships a trio of gods, entrusting aspects of himself to each. Nethys holds his dual nature and magic. Desna his people's tradition, his wanderlust, and luck. Cayden Cailean his love of freedom and bravery to take action.
2. The Radsamhin family a Sczarni crime family has targeted Xador because of his father's interactions with them.

Recruitment will remain open until Feb. 5th. Give some time for people who dotted the campaign a chance to post and people to finish their backgrounds. As of right now I have the following list of submissions:

Edgerson Male Tiefling Wizard
Johan Felder Male Human Bard
Raven Silvertongue Female Human Rogue
Margenda Female Human Cleric (Milani)
Tom Quicksilver Male Human Rogue (Unchained)
Darrien Kennelmaster Male Halfling Ranger (urban ranger)
Xador Cansil Male Human Arcanist (Occultist) Background Incomplete
Taldo the Tanner Male Human Bloodrager (spell eater) Background Incomplete

I think that completes Xador, let me know if I missed anything. :)

Step 4:

1. Lorant Kelrak is a strix that Xador met as a child with his fathers caravan while the two groups traded. They became fast friends and have stayed in touch over the years by way of letters. Two years earlier the two met again in the Menador Mountians, still sharing many interest and a strong friendship. Both look forward to the day they can meet once more.

2. There is someone watching Xador, taking great interest in him. This person is Nysdra Raktai, just another tiefling of the devil's nursery or so she would have you believe. Rather more then a tiefling but less then a full fiend. She is a half succubus that hides her nature as demon blooded, while seeking a way to improve her lot and mastery of hiding she crossed Xador and became obsessed with him. Not only taking interest in his odd abilities but him personally as well.

3. Cerack Nalwit was a fellow student of the Alabaster Academy. He was once Xandor's bully until he found that the varisian held more knowledge and magical expertise then him. Ever sense he has become an unofficial rival and constant annoyance to Xador as Cerack seeks to one up him every chance he gets. Even after both have left the Academy, Cerack keeps tabs on any achievements or progress Xador makes in order to find a way to show him up or beat him to a goal. Strangely enough this rivalry has given Cerack the drive to go past the self imposed limits of his own failing character. Something the man is aware of at his core, which only causes him more of an incentive to humble the young verisian mystic.

Step 5:

1. Xador remembers after his card burned the feeling of having his tattoo placed upon his shoulder, greeted not by pain or even excitement but rather a sense of certain purpose. An absence of any doubt.

2. Whenever Xador summons a creature from the great beyond he feels as he did the first time. A brush of clarity and sense of vastness followed by an odd peace.

3. A recent and fresh memory of coming upon a group of bullies from the Chelish Citizen's Group cornering tengu and tiefling children that had been playing in Villegre Park. The struggle of restraining himself rather then giving in to his vicious streak as he used magical slumber to deal with the brutes.

Post:

I normally post a few times a day. Once during the early morning and a few times during the evening as needed.

Yay a Hell's rebel's game.

Step 1:

1. The Aquila family was once strong and powerful in the old Cheliax under the God Aroden
2. Her father, Lucius, sold out the family ancestral linkage to Aroden and honour for a pack with one of Asmodeus's more ambitious devils underlings leading to wealth and a little power.
3. Her birth is the direct result of of this, as the 'signing' of this pack involved sleeping with the demon, the offspring was then given back to Lucius.
4. Elenora is motivated by righteous revengence, she grew up spoiled prat and put no effort into anything until her father arraigned to have her best friend, Bethany, to be sold into slavery to anger her into action.
5. She has adopted a masked vigilantly persona (Xeno) for her vengeance. What started focused on her father has spread to general righting wrongs, particularly against other woman.
6. Her masked vigilantly person is know in most of the rumors as the black widow, probably because of the clothes she wears as Xeno look like a mourning garb.
7. Elenora plays the role of a rich lesser nobility, apparently loyal to the new regime.
8. Xeno is intense and often scary, She has no time for idiots and plans that will get her killed.

Step 2:

1. Kill or drive off the Mayor and his flunkies.
2. Destroy her father's businesses and wealth leaving him a beggar or similar.
3. Defend the defenseless (particularly females) and punish the immoral. She will give people a chance to surrender and if they do let them off a warning. Anyone who has had a warning get no more chances or warnings.
4. Find people to work with towards the common goal of purifying the city.

Step 3:

1. (known) That Xeno is Elenora Aquila.
Ok that one is a bit of a given so I'll add a free extra one
2. (known) That there are demon underlings of Asmodeus prepared to undermine his position but they aren't ready to face him openly.
3. (Unknown) Her father fully knows what she is up to and is proud of the strength she is gaining. He has been sending very skilled mercenaries the follow her and keep her from getting in troublle beyond what they think she can deal with. They have on a number of times stoped the hell knights from catching up with her.

step 4:

1. (Enemy (complicated)) Lucius Aquila, her father. (not as simple as enemy, see secret 3)
2. (Friend (complicated)) Gaius Thrune, nephew to the mayor, fourth son, hellknight of the rack. He is romantically interested in Elenora and trying to impress her, he isn't without charm but Elenora knows that her secret will keep them apart (she is sending mixed signals). He is trying to catch the Black Widow to make his name.
3. (Friend (not complicated)) Georgia is an orphan and was on the street. Xeno saved her from unwanted male attention early in her time because she reminded Xeno of her lost friend. It is through conversations with Georgia that Xeno has widened her aim to include all the oppressors in the city, not just her father. Georgia knows who Xeno really is. She now has a job as a seamstress and makes Xeno's costume.

step 5:

1. Elenora most vivid memory is her friend Bethany being screaming for help as she was being dragged away by one of her father's men, while father held her and stoped her going to help her friend. She remembers the feeling of helplessness that she felt and the taste of her father's blood from when she bit him trying to get free.
2. Elenora has an oddly distant detached memory from being with her mother in one of the hells when she was very little. Strangly she has very little emotion when it come to her mother.
3. Xeno remembers the power she felt, when she first put on the costume.

step 6 (bonus):

Just a quick note on gender: I am male, and generally avoid playing female characters out of respect and the fact most males play females as asexual or sexual fantasies. I will try to play Xeno somewhere down in the middle (and PG), at least a dialed down from the portrayal of Zorro in film (Zorro being one of the major inspirations for Xeno). If there are any females in the group firstly I apologize and secondly I would appreciate any advice (or criticisms) on how I am playing her.
Additionally she is in no way inspired by the Avenger's character, the name 'black widow' came from how she is disguising herself.

Posting:
I usually check multiple times a day during the week and at least once over the weekend (I would check more but most of my games slow right down over the weekend so there is little need). I only post when appropriate/need, for some games that is once to twice a day but for most that once every couple of days. I live in Australia and usually check mornings and afternoons which is about evening in the USA.

Child of Kintargo:

• Feats
Weapon finesse: With a light weapon, rapier, whip, or spiked chain made for a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls. If you carry a shield, its armour check penalty applies to your attack rolls.

• Special abilities
Arcane Pool (Su) 4 points/day: At 1st level, the magus gains a reservoir of mystical arcane energy that he can draw upon to fuel his powers and enhance his weapon. This arcane pool has a number of points equal to 1/2 his magus level (minimum 1) + his Intelligence modifier. The pool refreshes once per day when the magus prepares his spells. At 1st level, a magus can expend 1 point from his arcane pool as a swift action to grant any weapon he is holding a +1 enhancement bonus for 1 minute. For every four levels beyond 1st, the weapon gains another +1 enhancement bonus, to a maximum of +5 at 17th level. These bonuses can be added to the weapon, stacking with existing weapon enhancement to a maximum of +5. Multiple uses of this ability do not stack with themselves. At 5th level, these bonuses can be used to add any of the following weapon properties: dancing, flaming, flaming burst, frost, icy burst, keen, shock, shocking burst, speed, or vorpal. Adding these properties consumes an amount of bonus equal to the property's base price modifier (see the Magic Weapon Special Ability Descriptions). These properties are added to any the weapon already has, but duplicates do not stack. If the weapon is not magical, at least a +1 enhancement bonus must be added before any other properties can be added. These bonuses and properties are decided when the arcane pool point is spent and cannot be changed until the next time the magus uses this ability. These bonuses do not function if the weapon is wielded by anyone other than the magus.
Spell Combat (Ex): At 1st level, a magus learns to cast spells and wield his weapons at the same time. This functions much like two-weapon fighting, but the off-hand weapon is a spell that is being cast. To use this ability, the magus must have one hand free (even if the spell being cast does not have somatic components), while wielding a light or one-handed melee weapon in the other hand. As a full-round action, he can make all of his attacks with his melee weapon at a –2 penalty and can also cast any spell from the magus spell list with a casting time of 1 standard action (any attack roll made as part of this spell also takes this penalty). If he casts this spell defensively, he can decide to take an additional penalty on his attack rolls, up to his Intelligence bonus, and add the same amount as a circumstance bonus on his concentration check. If the check fails, the spell is wasted, but the attacks still take the penalty. A magus can choose to cast the spell first or make the weapon attacks first, but if he has more than one attack, he cannot cast the spell between weapon attacks.

Is recruitment still going?

Yes, recruitment ends on Friday Feb. 5th.

Don't have long to put the fluff together, but I'm dotting for interest! I've got the crunch on a human male Mesmerist. I'll get the rest of it put together and polished ASAP.

I'd like to submit Milas Napaciza. The profile isn't done yet (recycling an old one) but I'm working on it.

Step 1:

+ Milas was born in the Napaciza family, Thrune loyalists sometimes also called "The Archers of Cheliax"
+ Like his family, Milas is an accomplished archer
+ He has been a great archer since his early years
+ Unlike his family, he never had any loyalty to Thrune
+ Raised as an Asmodean he secretly turned away from the faith after he had been allowed to take part in religious ceremony for the first time
+ He was never a fan of slavery and the sacrifice of slaves to Asmodeus made him revile both it and his faith
+ He kept his change of heart secret and resolved to help the halfling slaves of the estate he called home escape their enslavement
+ His mother found out and tried to convince him to turn back to the fold before others found out
+ They did anyway and Milas fled before they could get to him
+ He later learned that he had been disowned and excommunicated and his mother, who had married into the family, was now treated as a pariah because she didn't come forward immediately
+ Milas has lived in Kintargo ever since, sure it would be the one place where his past would leave him alone
+ He lived in Kintargo for 5 years without issue, though he almost used up the funds he took when he ran
+ The arrival of Barzillai Thrune messed up his plan. With a Thrune in the city it would be only a matter of time before his family found out and he'd be hunted down for his betrayal.

Step 2:

+ Avoid discovery as a son of House Napaciza by Thrune or it's associates
+ Stay out of the hands of the Chelish government and the church of Asmodeus
+ Turn Kintargo back into the home that he has come to love over the past years
+ Side goal and probably not relevant to the game: Keep his secret activities of his sister a secret, which is another reason he doesn't want to get caught

Step 3:

+ Unbeknownst to Milas his family never brought the news of his "betrayal" to their allies out of shame for their wayward son.
+ What he also does not know is that the contact he worked with to spirit away the halfling slaves was actually a member of the Bellflower Network and they also secretly helped cover his tracks when he fled
+ Milas' sister actually shares his ideas and is continuing his work. She is a lot better at hiding her work though and their family doesn't have a clue.

Step 4:

+ Tobar Napaciza, Milas' older brother and a devoted diabolist and Thrune loyalist. He despises his younger brother for what he feels as betrayal and would love nothing more than to bring him back and sacrifice him in the name of the Lord of Hell and Queen Abrogail.
+ Bini Fizzwinkle, one of the slaves that used to live on the Napaciza estate and one of the last that Milas helped get out. She ended up in Kintargo through work of the Bellflower Network and helped Milas settle in when he arrived. She's still very thankful for his work and the sacrifices he has made for her and other.
+ Mattis Tavishi, an older Tiefling native to Kintargo and Milas' neighbour. Despises the Chelish for abuse during his youth. Is convinced Milas is some sort of Chelish noble and has been nothing but a pain in the ass ever since. Great lover of Kintargo and it's opera (hostile now, possible future friend).
+ Jenna Tavishi, Matti's tiefling daughter. Apprentice maker of string instruments. Only knows Milas from when she visits her father and has a crush on him. Only recently dared to even speak with him. Milas likes her but is unaware of her affection.

Step 5:

+ Milas remembers his first archery lessons at the age of 5 and how he already surpassed his 9 year old brother after only a few weeks of training.
+ The first sacrifice to Asmodeus he witnessed at 12 years of age. It was a halfling boy of his age who had accidentally dropped a stack of plates in the estate kitchen and was deemed a klutz and as such a bad slave. Milas' father forced him to watch the whole thing.
+ How his older sister had approached him after Milas had first stopped the punishment of one of the slaves. She had been working with an outside contact for a while to liberate those they could. It was work started by their great grandmother and after that by several other family members.
+ The moment of his escape and how his mother held up his father, brother and uncle when they came to fetch him. He then fled via the same route he used to help the slaves escape.

Posting:
I check the forums several times per day and can post at least daily.

As for times active, I'm in GMT/UTC+1 and I tend to be active from the morning till late evening. For US timezones that corresponds to early morning till (late) afternoon.

DM_Kumo Gekkou, thanks for your consideration, but I have gotten into two other games and that is stretching me to my limit. I fear I must withdraw my application. Have a good game everyone!

I would like to submit this character. I can redo his background to make it fit as well as his stats. I think i'm going to change him to a monk as well.

DM_Kumo, do you have any objection to my just making up a settlement's name? Someplace that's sort of a suburb, or at least very near Kintargo, but outside Kintargo proper?

I have updated everything for Edgerson. Good luck everyone.

DM_Kumo, do you have any objection to my just making up a settlement's name? Someplace that's sort of a suburb, or at least very near Kintargo, but outside Kintargo proper?

A small settlement outside Kintargo is fine. It would not be a suburb though. I would warn that your character does need strong ties to Kintargo though for this campaign to work.

Phillip0614 here submitting Gideon Ross, Mesmerist. I know the character history needs to be fully fleshed out, but I figured I'll do that tomorrow; aside from a general history, all the crunch is here and I believe I have handled the five steps per your recruitment post. If I've missed something, please let me know. Thank you!

Five Things:
1. Only twenty years old, Gideon is possessed of the stereotypical exuberance of youth, though his enthusiasm and naiveté are tempered by an above-average intellect.

2. Gideon is a very handsome young man, a quality that only adds further to a personality that seems naturally able to draw people in.

3. Gideon is actually from a small settlement not far outside Kintargo; he has made frequent trips to the city throughout his life, as his mother, Maria Ross, frequently works behind the scenes at the Opera House as a dress-maker. Gideon’s natural charisma has a few of his mother’s friends trying to goad her into enlisting him as an apprentice of some kind.

4. Since his father died when he was young, Gideon has done everything he can to help his mother make ends meet, using his natural charisma to ply others for work or other necessities. He has, on several occasions, tried to find out more about his birth father. While his mom will tell him bits and pieces, Gideon can’t help but shake the feeling there’s a lot more to be told.

5. Gideon hopes to move back into Kintargo before long. He is saving money enough to get a place of his own, though he hasn’t told his mother his plans; though he feels a little guilty about keeping her in the dark, he also knows that his independence would ultimately benefit the two of them a great deal more than if he continued living in Kintargo’s shadow.

Two Goals:
1. I would like to see Gideon ultimately find himself romantically involved with Shensen; not a flash-in-the-pan sort of thing, but more the “happily ever after” sort.

2. I think it’d be cool if Gideon were actually able to become a regular part of the Kintargo Opera scene, both for himself and his mother.

Secrets:

1. Known Secret: Though he is a follower of Shelyn, Gideon’s mother Maria secretly became a follower of Sarenrae several years before. Though she’s thus far been adept at hiding it, Shensen’s openness and strength of faith has caused his mother to begin expressing her own beliefs more freely. Gideon is of two minds on the issue, at once glad for the strengthening of his mother’s faith and concerned about what it may mean for her should the powers-that-be decide that such openness will no longer be tolerated.

2. Unknown Secret: Gideon’s father, Vincent, is not dead at all! He abandoned the family years ago and Maria never was never able to tell her son the truth. She, herself, isn’t really aware of why he left them to their fate. She still keeps the letter that Vincent left, though, fully intending that one day she will tell Gideon the truth.

Personal Ties:
1. Friend 1) Janiel Tathrina - A half-elven woman, Janiel is one of Maria Ross’s closest friends and confidantes. She has been involved in Kintargo’s opera scene since she was young and has recently been pushing harder to try and get Gideon noticed by someone of greater import, convinced that the young man has some natural spark that should not be ignored.

2. Friend 2) Maria Ross – Human woman and mother of Gideon, Maria is a kind woman who, once upon a time, never imagined anything more than a life of obscurity. Her relatively recent conversion to Sarenraeism, though, has seen a new fire and passion brought forth in her, a boldness she hadn’t previously known.

3. Friend 3) Rolan Skyfox – The only halfling that Gideon would consider a friend as opposed to an acquaintance, Rolan has known Gideon since before he was a teenager. Secretly a member of the Bellflower Network, Rolan has been slowly trying to convince Gideon of the cracks in Chelaxian society and of the need for a change in the city’s leadership.

4. Rival 1) Nathan Delios – Nathan is a few years older than Gideon and has been struggling to break out into the scene as an up-and-comer in Kintargo’s entertainment industry, with little success. The son of another of Maria’s friends, Nathan has watched others of the older women secretly dote over Maria’s son and his seemingly natural talent for persuasion and oratory. The one time that Nathan had a real shot at making a name for himself, Gideon miraculously convinced one of the directors of that day’s show to let Gideon have a shot in the production…something that Nathan still hasn’t forgotten. Or forgiven.

Memories:

1. Gideon remembers the day that his mother came to him and told him that his father wasn’t going to come home any more. He can still remember the quiver in her voice as she tried to be strong for him, but there was something deeper than the sadness in her eyes that he puzzles over to this day.

2. Gideon still recalls the day he realized there was something special about him. Something magic, but not magic. Sure, there had been times when people had acquiesced to his requests before, but that day was different. Nathan had that part on lock for weeks, and everyone knew it. Gideon was still young, only 15 at the time, and he still isn’t sure how he managed to convince the director to give the part to him at the last minute. Since then, Gideon has practiced frequently, knowing that he has a unique power of the mind, and he fully intends to harness it.

3. The first time he saw Shensen. It was three years before and he already knew her name, but had never had an opportunity to see her. She was…is…breathtaking. Graceful. Strong. Some would surely call it just puppy love, but Gideon has never stopped hoping that one day he’ll have the chance to meet her in person and to, somehow, make an unforgettable impression on the woman.
