”Well, I’m not sure there will be much return on my investment if I channel to destroy this haunt, given that I hope never to return to this place,“ Zinkyudo replies. ”But, since it is you asking, Sarma, and you hid me so effectively from that first troop of undead, it seems only fair to pay back that debt.“

Calling on Abadar to bless the unholy space where the haunt emerges, Zinkyudo speaks solemnly, “Joktan Heth, if your spirit can hear me in this awful place, I wish to apologize, to express the sorrow of the Society for the ignoble end you met at the hands of overzealous servants of Pharasma. To die at the hands of those who would do good, while yourself attempting to do good, is not suitable recompense for your labors. May you be more richly rewarded in whatever afterlife you find yourself in.“

He glances around to make sure none of his companions are nearby before channeling.

She's doing much better, Carbide! Thanks very much for asking. I'm back in Boston for a couple of weeks, got here yesterday with my younger son who hasn't seen his grandma in close to two years. She is responding really well to the chemo, has more energy and is cognitively a lot sharper than she was in the depths of pre-treatment cancer.

She's about a month into 4.5 months of chemo, so there will still be challenges ahead, but the general trend is very much towards getting stronger and healthier, which is not what I expected a couple of months ago.

Garif joins Rees and Kleines in getting ready for bed in their shared room. He sets his armor and other gear on the table and falls into the nearest bed, quite tired after the party last night and the misadventures of the day. Nico jumps onto the bed at Garif's feet and begins to monopolize the space, spreading out and slowly, inexorably pushing Garif towards the edge of the bed.

Unable to sleep comfortably with the fear of being pushed onto the floor, Garif realizes there is an empty bed nearby. Judging that Nico is likely too sound asleep to notice, Garif slips quietly to the other bed and crawls under the covers, quite content to be able to spread out. He sighs deeply and drifts off to sleep.

Garif stands silent as a stone as the elven sisters chatter with the goblin. With a sigh, he pats Nico's broad head, giving the great cat's ears a gentle tug and thinking, We went from a party where I was supposed to take care of animals to a shop where we have to charm a goblin girl. When, oh when, will the Society send me to the Plane of Earth or somewhere that makes sense to me?

He gives Lobda a nod, then moves toward the door with his companions, making room for Kleines to lead the way.

Hmm, thsi big fella seems to have pretty strong feelings about that sandbox, Pazúr thinks to himself. I guess if I gotta go, I should find somewhere else.

He's about to speak up and use his silver tongue to charm the orc, when Ferrun steps in and opts to be genuinely gracious instead. Leaving his catfolk kin to lead the conversation, Pazúr keeps an ear to what's being said while taking a quiet step into the shadows of the small shrine.

Thanks for the bot, Ladile! Since it doesn't seem any more rolls are needed right now, I'll just post for fun while I have a second.

Garif sees the tense exchange between the two venture-captains and scratches his head a moment, muttering, "What is up with those two? Dwarves can get sideways as readily as anyone, but they are really something." He turns to seek out his companions, to see if they've got any insights to share based on what they've learned at the party, but inadvertently steps on the tail of a large, pink-furred wolf that Nico has been quietly growling at for several minutes.

The creature lets out a pained "Grrraaaarrff!" as Garif jumps back, apologizing profusely to the wolf and the even more oddly-colored gnome standing at its side.

Garif sits quiet as a stone through the briefing and the ensuing chatter, murmuring at one point, "Well, I'm good at observing things, keeping my eyes open, I can certainly do that. But this does seem very strange, that senior Pathfinders would be going at each other like this, even using poison!"

He is distracted from his ruminations by Rees' eloquent glance. After a thoughtful pause, Garif can't help but disagree a bit, his brow wrinkling and coming together above his eyes, then lifting in gesture that should be clear to all, We dwarves follow the law, of course. But it does seem a bit abrupt to just arrest everyone! Though perhaps elves are less prone to curbing their own behavior. In any case, we all agree that these errant venture-captains must be kept in check.

Garif moves into the half set-up party room and looks around thoughtfully, contemplating the event to come. Another party to get through, it seems. Funny how often they send us to this sort of thing, I really thought when I joined up I'd be exploring dark dungeons and other nice, underground spots.

He turns to remark on this to his companions, and discovers they have all scattered to the wind as Garif's thoughts have slowly percolated. They are all making small talk and chatting away, and the dwarf feels a bit at a loss, until Rees makes eye contact.

'Whatever do you mean, one of my fancy parties? I don't know a thing about parties!' he says with a tug of his long beard and a lift of both eyebrows. A subtle shrug and the faintest of grins adds the thought, 'Perhaps you are the decadently wasteful celebrant here?'

Laying a gentle hand on Nico's shoulder, to discourage the massive cat from chasing strings of paper lanterns, Garif approaches the taciturn woman in red and blue and says, "Not to worry, I know how you feel. Not much of a talker either."

Garif clambers down through the opening, dropping onto the bookcase below and just managing to keep his balance so he can descend to the floor feet first rather than leading with his head. Nico drops down gracefully behind Garif, the cat's dark fur and fluid movements making him look briefly like a night-black waterfall flowing into the room.

Both cat and dwarf look around, and seem to shrug in unison as Garif says, "Hmm, not really my department, libraries and archives and such. But let me know how I can help." Nico shifts his eyes to Garif briefly, but makes no such offer, instead curling into large puddle of fur near the big desk.

Rax's raft is a work of art, clearly inspired by his careful, deeply focused study of the label of Grogram's Firewater, a cheap, diluted rum with an effervescent touch of lime. It's sturdy enough to hold a couple of extra passengers, and the inclusion of two small casks built into the structure under the stern and bow (which Rax envisioned could be used to carry grog, but which he's forgotten to fill before sealing them up) will add buoyancy to the handsome little vessel.

Farzin hit the DC on the nose.

Farzin's second raft, while not elegant in its form, looks like it will at least float - though he's a little leery of putting a stone giant in it. Still, it's significantly better than Hampton's raft. As the Osiriani finishes his work and gives it a satisfied thump on the keel, the raft's rather clunky bow falls off!

Filbert feels pretty good about the falsified travel documents, though it's tougher to gauge how good they are than it is to judge a raft.

Two out of three rafts done!

Seeing how helpful the frog is being, Garif does his best to help it. He mutters a few words in the tongue of the druids, then gives the frog's slick flank and poke with his finger. The frog follows its instinct and tries to swallow the devil, but the infernal creature is too big!

Garif chuckles at Ironshanks' rather inventive imprecation, as he continues to form the strange shape in his hands. Raising a weathered, grey brow and opening his hands slightly to reveal more of the wriggling, green thing within, he gives Rees a look full of meaning, Why of course it's not a stone, silly elf! I suppose it could resemble a large chunk of malachite, though it hardly seems to have monoclinic crystals...

Shaking his head to regain his focus, Garif notes that the spot he planned to toss the green form in his hands is now occupied by a rather broad dwarf. Shifting his weight a bit, he throws the slimy green ball through the open door in front of him. As it flies, it grows and takes on a more defined shape, with tightly bent arms and legs and a wide, wide mouth!

The Pathfinders make their way through the city and back to the Rockfish Inn uneventfully, though they can't help but be struck by how strange it is to have a curfew limiting their movement, when they are accustomed to the freedom to move around the wide world of Golarion. Surely, for at least some of the party, this strange feeling serves as further motivation to successfully smuggle out those who wish to leave this oppressive place. For others, it underscores that there is money to be made in that endeavor.

Back at the Inn, Yuleg greets everyone and again prepares a simple meal. Vurna's illness lingers, though she is better off than when the party first met her. It is clear that Yuleg is still rather concerned about her.

Yuleg is so grateful for Zandu’s efforts to heal Vurna, the innkeeper rushes around in a frenzy, somehow managing to prepare a simple but tasty dinner, ready a handful of rooms, draw a bath for Farzin, and find a cuttlebone for Papayo to peck at, all at the same time.

Zandu applies a poultice of sharp-smelling herbs to the spot where the rat bit Vurna. Having recognized the ailment as Filth Fever, he hopes to draw the illness from her wound and give her body a chance to fight the disease. He also gives her a pungent tea, which causes her to sleep deeply for the first time in days.

Come morning, Vurna’s condition is much improved, though she is still unwell. She is able to sit up in bed, and even move around a bit, and offers to serve as a guide to the sewers, since she knows the tunnels to Shard Cove, as well as the location of Flitch’s hiding place.

Vurna was at stage 3 of filth fever, and has now progressed to stage 2 (with stage 0 being cured, and stage 5 being dead).

As Ironshanks introduces himself and makes conversation with the elves, Garif pays no mind, his attention clearly fixated on their new teammate’s axe. Tipping his head to one side as if trying to look at the weapon in different reflections of light, he takes a step closer to Ironshanks, then actually sniffs the air near its blade. ”What, adamantine, you say? It is a glory above all things, is it not?” He circles Ironshanks to look at the blade with a different perspective, seeming to forget that there is another person involved in this little dance as he focuses on the metal of the axe. ”Looking at it, and from its scent, I think the ore that produced this adamantine may be from the mine high on Mount Onik, in the south of the Five Kings. Its shimmer as it moves matches what I’ve seen of that ore, which of course in only found in thin sulfide layers in certain mafic igneous bodies of rock…”

Garif looks up, realizes he’s only a few inches from Ironshanks’ face, and says, ”Oh, uh, sorry about that. I am Garif, Garif Stonetoe, of the Five Kings Mountains.” His bald pate, as he backs it up to more socially acceptable distance, is blocky and rather pale, resembling a small, weathered boulder as much as a head. He’s much less heavily armed and armored than Magee, wearing only armor of cured animal hide, with a simple warhammer hanging from his belt. He runs a hand over his thick grey and white beard and says absentmindedly, ”Oh, and this is Nico.” A large cat, looking much like a mountain lion, but with an entirely black coat save for a patch of white on his chest, does not deign to engage in the introductions going around, and Garif thinks back on what’s been said around him.

”I guess you’re not much for cats?” he says to Ironshanks. ”Well, Nico found me, so I didn’t have a choice in the matter, but he’s been pretty useful in our adventures, when he’s not about to get himself killed. As for what you can expect from me, well, I’m not like our stealthy elf companions, as you might guess. I have learned to use the power of the natural world to do useful magic, and have trained Nico to protect me in a fight, though I often have to wake him first.”

With a sigh, Garif ponders their assignment and adds, ”And they will keep sending me on these jobs that involve parties and sneaking about and such. Does the Society not need a map of all of the mafic deposits between the Isger Pass and Coralesian, to produce more adamantine? I do hope our next mission involves something like that.”

Calling on Gozreh, and his own skills, Obad’of combines agility and strength as he deftly grabs hold of the stone shard in the eye of the distracted leshy and pulls! The stone does not slip free as one might expect, but holds fast for a long, slightly gristly, moment before Obad’of manages to pull it out!

The leshy crafter stands stock still for a moment, raising a hand to touch the gaping hole in his face where the cyclopean shard had so recently rested. He gingerly probes the hole, swaying like a sapling in the wind..

“Oh. Oh.” The leshy murmurs as he looks about very slowly, taking in the twisted and deformed leshys, the Abyssal plant life, the burnt and ruined valley. “...it’s possible that I might have misinterpreted one or two things.”

There is a very long pause, long and silent enough that the Pathfinders can almost hear the bruorsivi trees growing, before the leshy crafter utters one more word.

“Oops.”

He stands, quietly aghast at what he has done, until he sees that the tainted leshys, now free of the monolith’s pollution, begin to revert to their normal forms. They gradually slough off the rocks and animal parts that the crafter used to form their bodies and return to somewhere close to normal. Many of them still seem to retain signs of their Abyssal origin, such as a bark pattern that looks vaguely like a bleeding skull, or extra vines that sway in an unfelt breeze, but the crafter breathes a huge sigh of relief as the demonic corruption seems to flow out of his creations, and he can see that the threat of the Abyss-warped leshys has ended.

The leshys gather around the Pathfinders in celebration of their return to the natural order of things, convinced the party are the greatest heroes in this leshy community’s entire history (which is, admittedly, only a few months long). In recognition of what the Pathfinders have done, the leshy crafter calls out in an unknown tongue, and a still rather-disturbing leshy – of the same sort that exploded and nearly killed Flamel not long ago - trundles out of the woods dragging a sword behind it. The crafter explains that it is “a legendary sword, for the good monsters.” He hands it over, and it turns out to be a low-grade silver longsword with the image of a grasping arm etched into its blade. Furthermore, the crafter says, ”You did a great thing. A great thing. And I give you thanks. And my creations, now that they understand what they are truly meant to be, thank you also. I have been wondering about a name to take. In fact, I wanted to tell you my name when you first appeared, but I did not yet have one. I was thinking of maybe… Yew, a good name. Or Oleander. Or Foxglove. I think I look like I could be a Foxglove. But no, I will be Blackberry. And because of what you have done here, Blackberry will lead the leshys to become allies of the Pathfinders, and of the centaurs of the forest.”

After a pleasant night’s rest, the party returns to the Redpine camp, where Urwal greets them enthusiastically – if a bit cryptically, as always. As a reward for their great success, he gives them a beacon shot, though he notes dryly, and a touch dismissively, that it is ”A warrior’s weapon. But you are to be recognized for resolving the dilemma we faced without need for such things.”

Soon after, Jaldan canters up and exclaims excitedly, ”I heard what you did! You saved our forest, and made my tribe a new ally! And you didn’t even die! That’s sooooo cool!” She looks at Urwal for a long moment, and when he nods, she turns back to the party and continues, her tone even more excited, ”I’m going to be a Pathfinder! I’m going with Urwal when he leaves, and I’m going to study and travel and adventure, and then I can come home one day and be an even better shaman for the Redpine clan! And it’s all because you all got me so excited about being a Pathfinder!”

The leshy joins in the ritual excitedly, murmuring, "Yes, yes, correct our flaws! Must have the right number of tails on a bush, and perhaps I'll finally have two stone eyes!" He follows Brynn's movements and words, drinking from the Cup of Sky, kneeling before the Great Plain of Earth, throwing his head back to greet the Falling Waters of Heaven...

He's thoroughly engaged in the ritual, so now just an Athletics check to pop the eye out. No restrictions on who makes it, can be the same person or someone else.

"Wow, would be cool to stay and check these out, eh, Cilik?" Penny remarks, running his hands over the bindings of the expensive books. "Maybe we can come back for them later."

Turning to the door in the north wall, he says, "For now, I say we go this way." He gives the door a quick once-over, checking to see if it's locked.

Check for traps. If none found, check if it's locked. If it's locked, attempt to open:

Aside from the quiet crackling of scorched tree limbs cooling, the forest goes quiet - until Jaldan reacts to Flamel's condition, "Oh my! Oh no! Is Flamel dead?! What do we do? Can someone save them?" Flamel rather miraculously lets out a deep, sighing breath, and Jaldan exclaims, "Oh, thank the heavens! I thought those awful things had killed Flamel! We need to get to the camp and talk to the elders, and put a stop to these horrors!"

For their successful efforts in putting out the fire that could have destroyed Finadar Forest, Flamel earns a Hero Point!

DM Screen for Darlinger Society Check:
Society: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

As Brynn makes her way east, moving cautiously and quietly through the Hold of Belkzen and across Ustalav and Numeria, she reflects on Urwal’s references to spirits and primal worship. From her own training, she knows that Iobaria’s dominant religion is the worship of various nature spirits, who protect harvests, prevent forest fires, and so forth. She’s also aware that it should be a welcoming place for her, as most religious figures there are druids.

Elsewhere, Obad’of is well into his longer journey from Absalom. To his great delight, he’s able to make nearly the entire trip on the Sellen River, where he can swim daily. As he paddles along in the glassy waters of Hooktongue Slough in southern Brevoy, he thinks about Urwal’s peculiar comments and references to rituals. To the best of his knowledge, the Green is the planet of Castrovel, associated with fey, and the Stranger is one of the constellations of the Cosmic Caravan, linked to evil magic.

At more or less the same moment, Flamel is traveling from Magnimar, across the Mindspin Mountains and then by boat across Lake Encarthan and the River Kingdoms. Their thinking is also on Urwal’s references to ritual, but the conclusions are rather different – that the Green is the planet of Castrovel, but is associated with fertility, while the Stranger is one of the constellations of the Cosmic Caravan, and properly associated with ill magic and typically depicted as a single, staring eye. Further, they know that the Child is another name for Golarion, while the Mother is another of the Cosmic Caravan, associated with protection.

The charming, changeable Farzin and the enchanting Darlinger have much shorter journeys to make, and they set out a bit later than the others. By coincidence, all of the Pathfinders arrive in New Stetven, on the shore of Lake Reykal, on the same day, and seek lodging in a simple but comfortable lakefront inn. Realizing they are all traveling to the same goal, they travel together the last few days, arriving at last at their destination.

Sprawling on a hilltop overlooking a broad caravansary, the town of Mishkar is an eclectic mix of steeply pitched Varisian houses interspersed with the occasional red-tiled Taldan roof. The scars of the recent fires are still visible if one cares to look, seen in the town’s smoke-darkened rooftops and sooted doorways. Mostly, though, the Pathfinders see evidence of new construction and repairs both finished and in progress; it seems that Mishkar is decidedly in favor of putting the past behind it. Today, it is a city of paint buckets and ladders, of carpenters and surveyors and masons, smelling of sawdust and sounding of workers’ cries.

The caravansary at the foot of the hill is equally bustling. A large caravan of merchants from Brevoy has just arrived, and the building’s yard is crowded with clerks and guards, horses and grooms, with curious children darting between the wagon wheels. Just about everyone seems to be at the caravansary today, except the person Urwal directed the party to meet. Jaldan is nowhere to be found.

You can make any further introductions to each other as you meet in New Stetven and begin traveling together. To find your contact in Mishkar, you can ask around the caravansary (with a Diplomacy check), simply go looking around the town (Perception check), or even try to look for unshod hoofprints in the area, since you know Jaldan is a centaur (Survival).

I didn't have much I could play in Outpost - not a lot of openings in PF1 scenarios I could play, and I've played most PF2 stuff - so I'm not signed up for anything. Any games I should check out?

I'm playing a lot of VTT these days, as our local lodges have all moved online, it feels like I'm playing more PF with the community here than I do during non-pandemic times.

”Well, aren’t you a nice young man?” Aula says in response to Darlinger’s suave delivery. ”I’d say you were a darling, but you seem somehow more than that, somehow, I don’t know…even darlinger?” She excuses herself a moment, then returns with Pavo Crispin’s keepsakes: a brittle, weathered journal, a tiny, wooden model of a building that resembles the decrepit lodge near Artume, and a belt buckle crudely etched with an image of a road heading off into the distance.

Aula bids the party goodbye, and they set out for the keep, to seek an audience with King Edryd. A path winds up to the steepest part of the rocky hill where Gildtmede Keep stands. This stretch of steep rock separates the keep from the town that spreads over the gentler slopes below. The path ends at a sturdy wooden gate covered by several arrow slits. A guard clad in a blue surcoat raises one hand while holding a crossbow by his hip, and calls out, “On what business do you approach the keep?”

As before, please include a Diplomacy check (or other check you think is appropriate) with your post to convince the guard to let you in.

Shieara and Rees – your panicked state will continue for longer than this fight (10 rounds), making your posting much simpler!

Shieara and Rees continue to flee into the night, with the cleric’s head start keeping her slightly ahead of the elf, despite her heavy armor! Fortunately, the wedding pavilion is in the center of Pariol Island, so it will be some time before our panicked heroes run into the sea!

Kleines swings the unfamiliar axe again, sparing the poor stage this time, but completely missing the demon! Damiar experiments with a wand, while Iovo attempts to touch Arastrax with an icy hand and misses! You didn’t hit, so I don’t think the spell would fizzle.

Fortunately, Phin has better luck, striking the demon with two glowing missiles, that seem to tear away pieces of its shadowy form!

Despite the magic projectiles piercing it, the demon’s attention suddenly seems to be elsewhere, as it looks through the tent door, as well as through a number of rents in the tent walls where fleeing guests have cut their way out. ”It appears my worthless minions have failed in their task,” the icy voice rings out, ”and have allowed some of those in attendance to escape. He who has bound me has failed at his goal to keep events here secret. As I am no longer bound, I will return to consume your souls another day!”

The demon floats up to the ceiling, out of reach of Kleines’ axe, and concentrates a moment before vanishing with a quiet pop!

An echoing, resonant voice seems to speak in Kleines’ head, offering the servant of Irori a moment of near-divine clarity as it says ‘If you think there are thin bits in the plot, or unexplained motivations hidden behind a screen, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.’

The Pathfinders make their way up the cliff and head back to the reception, after a brief stop at their little cottage to collect a few things. All the while, the Blakros sisters speak quickly, finishing each other’s thoughts effortlessly as they talk through the situation ahead. The party and the twins all arrive at the reception tent at about the same time, to witness a few stares and murmurs of surprise from the assembled guests to see both sisters present.

Before anyone can presume to inquire about the sudden appearance of Michellia’s twin, however, there is a disturbance by the stage. One of the Blakros mercenaries strides onto the stage, shoving a couple of musicians off it as he moves to center-stage. Holding his halberd high, he proclaims loudly, ”I am Arastrax of the Onyx Alliance! I have this place surrounded and I shall feast on your souls! Not a one of you shall live to escape this island!” The sound of yelling, screaming, and fighting erupts outside the pavilion and demonic shrieks and howls fill the air! The crowd within the tent begins to panic, and frightened guests stampede toward the exits! Some of the more prominent and powerful attendees, including the bride and groom, enter combat with a swarm of small demonic creatures harassing the cowering crowd, but no one has confronted their leader on the stage!

As this madness erupts, Shiera studies the mercenary on the stage a moment and is convinced he’s under some sort of mental control.

As I’m sure you’ve guessed, the Pathfinders have to deal with the leader, while the NPCs engage in abstracted fashion with minions.

The sisters once again show their twin-ship, as each blinks her green eyes twice and tips her head slightly in confusion, all in perfect synchrony. Michellia speaks first, ”So…you’re suggesting that I wed Bedard, and Eleanir marry Damian? But I’ve already married Damian! I expect his family – and the Hellknights – would not look fondly on my suddenly backing out of that commitment. The fact that the marriage is more about politics than love makes that even more true, as it would be a real slap in the face to the Kastner family. If we were having this conversation just a few hours ago, matters might be different.”

Eleanir joins in, saying, ”But if I take your place, you could marry Bedard, or do whatever you like! You don’t have to marry him today, but you could entertain the possibility, or you could travel, adventure, do as you like! You could get to know him without the political calculus always on your mind, and find out if you love him as he does you – and if you don’t, you’d be free to find someone else, or no one!”

Michellia’s face shifts over the course of a few, thoughtful moments, going from the lovely but rather calculating expression she has worn throughout the weekend to one of quiet wonder. ”It just might work…and the family’s political needs would be met, and I would be free.”

The sisters regard each other for a few heartbeats, looking into each other’s eyes in wordless communication, in a way that Damiar and Iovo immediately recognize as the profound understanding that can exist between twins. Though not another word is spoken, it’s clear they have come to a decision, as Eleanir and Michellia take a few steps closer together and embrace.

Turning to Damiar, Michellia says, ”You are wise indeed, good elf. Your suggestion gives each of us something we have longed for, and keeps our family – and Damian’s – happy.”

With a satisfied, perhaps amazed, laugh at the fact that her plan actually seems to have worked – though not in the way she expected – Eleanir adds, ”And I’m even dressed the part! Thank you, all of you, for helping us understand each other and resolve our dilemma.”

As the conversation unfolds, the remaining Ulfen warrior drags his dead and injured companions onto the longboat, looking occasionally over his shoulder to be sure no one intends to stop him from leaving with them.

So, not exactly the plan Damiar suggested, but a step in that direction. What next?

”Oh, thank the stars that you’re here!” Michellia responds to Damiar. ”You won’t believe this, but my misguided sister, who is supposed to be off in Garund, attacked me when I got to our old summer home! I had gone there to, uh, clear my head, and um, think on the new direction of my life. Only the timely intervention of these most coincidentally arrived Ulfen warriors saved me. Naturally, I want them to save my wedding by having this fellow Olaf, who I have totally just met, take Eleanir – who is unconscious in the boat - off the island, so that no further disruptions occur.”

Though Kleines seems to think it’s a pretty convincing tale, every other Pathfinder on the beach senses something is amiss with this situation, and that Michellia is not being truthful.

Excellent brainwashed-community-member post there, Rees!

Rees and Iovo carefully analyze the tracks, while Coco flies overhead and takes a look around. Returning to land on Phin’s shoulder, the raven gives a simple report, ”Caaaw! Caw! Amazing CoCo saw person in dress with shinies on beach! Niiiice shinies! And more people – person, person, person, person! No shinies, no dresses! Only big axes! And a boat!”

Phin knows that Coco can count, but struggles with numbers as a means representing how many things have been counted, and that the repeated ‘person’ in the report means there are four people on the beach in addition to the person in the dress with the shinies.

I don’t mean to make CoCo sound unintelligent, but I thought I’d make her speech a bit different than just talking to a person, since birds are kind of aliens.
