The Moar Core Tour (Inactive)

Game Master BretI

A Core PFS campaign that will go from level 1 through level 12, completing all of Season 5 in the process.

At least, that was the original plan. We made it to 5th level with a few characters leaving and others joining. At that point life had gotten in the way for several of the players and interest in Core was waning. The group had one last run and then we closed it down.

Damiar does not mind the chattiness, and she encourages it. "Oh, the Damiar was a planet, but it blew up and now it's the Diaspora asteroid belt!" She leans over. "Whatever long-ago calamity exploded the planet Damiar also exploded the planet Iovo... Our mother's an astronomer, and named us after the twin planets to remind us of what happens when siblings quarrel. She has an odd sense of humor, Mom does!" Then Damiar shrugs. "On the other hand, Iovo and I almost never fight, so perhaps her celestial naming scheme for us worked."

Damiar grins. "We liked Zig, and you seem friendly too. Is your whole family working for the Pathfinder Society? Maybe someday you two could go on missions together like we do! Would you be able to show us around the lodge, or do you have to mind the store?"

"I'm sure you're every bit as helpful as Zig; that must be why the boss trusted you to mind the store with no one else here. Surely there aren't many customers coming in this time of the evening, though, right? Perhaps we could lock the door and you could show us around, as Damiar suggested?"

"Oh, okay, gotcha," Lobda nods, finally acknowledging Iovo (and the rest of you) a little more directly. "And yeah, Zig's my cousin! He's, like, got a great go-getter attitude, right? I know he'll, like, go far one day," she beams.

To Damiar she adds, "Nah, I just work here. My family, like, does all sorts of stuff; a little of this and a little of that. We all get along pretty well because we kinda have to, y'know? Goblins got a bad rap in a lotta places and with a lotta people so we gotta stick together."

"Still...I like your mom's style," Lobda grins. "'Get along...or ELSE!' Goblins used to find out about the 'or else' thing a LOT...but now we, like, try to get along and work together more. Seems like we, like, live longer that way?"

At this point, Lobda glances over towards the closed door that leads further into the building and lowers her voice. "So, like...are y'sure you wanna come work for Mister Dulm? I mean, it's not really any of my business but I wanna help you out since we gots such history. And, like, even a scary guy like Mister Dulm can have problems. Big problems. Big money problems. In a whisper, she adds “I hope at least you are getting paid! Making you work the store during a party?” She makes a mournful face and shakes her head.

Garif stands silent as a stone as the elven sisters chatter with the goblin. With a sigh, he pats Nico's broad head, giving the great cat's ears a gentle tug and thinking, We went from a party where I was supposed to take care of animals to a shop where we have to charm a goblin girl. Rees stands off to one side, listening uncomfortably to the chatter with the underling. Catching Garif's look of discomfort, the tall elf quirks his mouth up in something vaguely resembling a smirk, as if to opine, You and me both, comrade... although I told Kleines we should do this, I'm hardly comfortable pretending to be an Elder! Lobda shrugs and offers Iovo a rather enigmatic smile. "Oh don't worry, I, like, get paid in my own way. But yeah, like, having to work while everyone else got to go to the party stinks! They could've, like, closed the shop and let me have the day off or something," the goblin huffs.

"But anyways, I'll, like, keep your offer in mind. You guys seem pretty cool and Father says it pays to be on the lookout for, like, opportunity. Cake'd be great too, thanks!" Lobda continues, waving you on towards the door with a smile.

She doesn't seem particularly phased by Iovo giving the door a good once-over before anyone dares to open it or knock on it, but perhaps she's used to this sort of thing, what with working in close proximity to other Pathfinders.

Once Iovo is certain that there aren't any traps on the door - magical or mundane - Damiar casually pushes it open. Lined along the northern wall of this warehouse is a series of cages with locking doors, similar to small prison cells, which look to be relatively new. Though they currently stand empty, the warehouse itself is not. Several shady-looking individuals bustle about, busily cleaning out the cells. From the doorway Damiar, Iovo, and Kleines can see at least three - two humans and a halfling. The two humans wear chain shirts and carry a number of weapons at their sides - daggers, scimitars, and saps. The halfling is dressed in a nice suit of studded leather and carries a shortsword as well as a hand crossbow. All of them look around with some surprise as Damiar cheerfully greets them with the passphrase.

The halfling shakes his head. "Naw, he didn't say nothin'...but they got th' passphrase so's it must be legit."

"Mite insulted that he didn't think we could clean out some cages on our own," he adds with an indignant snort, "but whatever. If Dulm wants t' pay more saps t' do next t' nothin' then it ain't my business!"

He points to a pile of cleaning supplies over in the far corner. "Well, if yer here t' work then have at it!"

Presumably all of us (including me) have been a bit preoccupied this week but I'm going to see if I can give us a bit of a nudge.

Not wasting any time, both Iovo and Phinellippa do as instructed, moving to grab some cleaning supplies from the pile in the corner. As they do, they head towards the cages. Upon closer inspection it looks as though some of the cages have been occupied very recently...and not by animals or other beasts. Piles of rags and straw for bedding, buckets for makeshift latrines, and manacles, sized for humanoids, leave little question about who and what these cages are meant to hold.

"Yeah, Dulm told us to get 'em clean an' right quick," one the humans remarks, noticing the attention being given to the cages. "Pain in th' backside but leastways it's easier than scooping d~#@@*& or horse puckey, haha!"

Iovo and Phinellippa notice a fourth individual, another human male, cleaning some of the eastern cages (currently out of everyone else's LoS) as well as a closed door to the north.

"So, you guys gotta be some of Dulm's new friends or something, right? 'Cause I know ya ain't with th' Pikes, not 'less I missed something," the man (Orange) continues. He doesn't seem suspicious of you, so much as just eager to distract himself from the very mundane task of sweeping the cages and floor. The halfling, who seems to be nominally in charge, rolls his eyes.

"Y'know, the faster we get this done the faster you'll have time to flap your jaws, Clancy. The hell does it matter who they're with?"

"Gods, you're such a sourpuss, Rad," Clancy grumbles. "I'm just tryin' t' be friendly, alright? Is that a crime?"

The group dynamics here are undoubtedly fascinating, but you've got a job to do - look for evidence of wrongdoing on Dulm's part. While you're sure finding some great circumstantial evidence, you're sure you'll need proof that can't just be washed away. Perhaps there's some documentation lying around somewhere - perhaps deeper inside the complex.

Season of Ghosts

Alarmed at being caught between a rock and a hard place Garif urges Nico to go on the offensive while he begins conjuring an ally of nature to help even the odds a little bit!

Nico himself bounds up to one of the hideous blobby creatures and sinks his teeth deeply into the thing's flesh - but while the attack strikes true, the creature's skin seems to blunt the effects of the panther's sharp teeth.

Back out in the warehouse Kleines refuses to give the Pikes a chance to attack and instead rushes at Rad-in-Red, striking out at the halfling in an attempt to pummel him unconscious. The paladin's blow catches the halfling in the gut, who utters a loud *OOF* as the air is briefly knocked out of him!

That done, he backs carefully into the hall, pausing only a moment to grimace at Kleines' position.

Season of Ghosts

As things rapidly escalate Damiar warns that the four blobby creatures are dretch demons and as such are resistant to strikes from weapons not manufactured from cold iron or blessed with goodly enchantments. They also resist the effects of acid, cold, and fire attacks. Finally, Damiar knows that dretches have the innate (but limited) ability to conjure a number of magical effects to strike fear into the hearts of their foes, hinder them with noxious fumes, or even summon another of their kind (though their success rate doing this tends to be rather poor).

DR 5/cold iron or good, Resist Acid/Cold/Fire 10, SLAs Cause Fear, Stinking Cloud, Summon (1 Dretch; 35%).

With all this in mind, Damiar spins a jaunty tune for herself and her allies, to rally them to battle and to win the day! You even think some of the Pikes would tap along to the beat if they weren't already busy trying to pummel you.

Rees decides to focus fire on the one Kleines just kicked in the teeth, readying an arrow and sticking it into Rad-in-Red before the halfling has a chance to react. He does NOT look happy but he's definitely not down for the count, either.

Pike Blue and Pike Orange leap into action, converging on Kleines while Pike Green advances on Rees. All three of them wield saps, which they attempt to use to beat the paladin and archer into submission...

Pike Blue vs. Kleines (Sap; Flanking, PA): 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 - 1 = 18

Pike Green vs. Rees (Sap; PA): 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 1 = 18

Kleines and Rees each take a blow from a sap, leaving some nasty bruising but no permanent damage.

Red Leader scowls and takes a step back to get Kleines out of his grill for a moment. Then, he pulls out a potion, chugs it down...and vanishes.

In the office, things are similarly hairy with several of the dretches making their best scary faces in an attempt to strike fear into your hearts! Dretch White takes a step back and mugs at Nico, Dretch Black pulls a face at Iovo, and Dretch Purple decides to live dangerously as he tries the ol' boogity-boo against Phinellippa, leaving himself open to an attack from Iovo.

Iovo may take an AoO against Dretch Purple if she wishes!

Nico, Iovo, Phinellippa:

Each of you need to make a DC 11 Will or be frightened for a number of rounds. If you succeed, you're shaken for 1 round. This is a fear effect so don't forget your Inspire Courage bonus!

Nico Rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Iovo Rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Phinellippa Rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Will adjust as needed should Iovo disrupt what Dretch Purple is doing.

And unfortunately for everyone in the office or just outside the door, Dretch Yellow emits a *brrp* and a stinky, nauseating vapor fills the air!

Everyone but Kleines - Make a DC 13 Fort or be nauseated until you leave the cloud + 1d4+1 rounds afterward. If you succeed you are not nauseated but must still roll a save every round as long as you remain in the cloud. This is a poison effect.

Though Iovo is unable to stop Dretch Purple from doing its' thing, perhaps it's for the best. She handily shrugs off Dretch Black's attempt to frighten her and also manages to weather Dretch Yellow's stank cloud with only some watering of her eyes. Deciding that it'd be best to get the heck out of the way and beef up she gracefully tumbles away and into a nearby corner before pulling out a wand and granting herself a bit of magical armor.

Garif shrugs off the stank cloud - huzzah for dwarven constitution - and finishes his summons. A giant frog pops into the warehouse to a chorus of startled cries from the Pikes. The dwarf then wisely falls back out of the office, though Pike Green takes a potshot at him as he does...

Once out in the clear air of the warehouse she calls for Kleines to point out the general area where he last saw Red and then drops a glitter bomb of her own!
