”Alright. Then what?”

Jackdaw pulls her back off the ground and places her back against the nearby wall. ”Let’s say you do defeat this Barzy guy. What happens next? Do you think the crown will just ignore this? That once you beat up the bad guy then everything will be sunshine and rainbows? That you’ve successfully intimidated the rest of the country into leaving you alone? No. The crown will come back here and make an example of this city. You four will be hanged for treason, and that’s if you’re lucky!

“I’ve had a lot of time to think—apparently 60 years—and throughout all of it a single question has haunted me as much as the spirits of my friends: ’What comes next?’ You are fighting with no plan of the future, just like we were. Principles can only get you so far. My friends and I were young and stupid back then—we fought for the sake of keeping out what was wrong, but we never thought about cultivating what was right. Fighting against evil does not make you ‘right,’ it makes you ‘not-wrong.’

“Have any of you, even once, thought about what you’re gonna do when the fight is over? Or have you been so blinded by your own hatred that it never crossed your mind? Because I know for a fact that we didn’t. I didn’t have the time to until I was hallucinating in that concrete hell over there! I’m still not fully convinced you four aren’t hallucinations. We had every opportunity to win against these Thrune monsters, and you think YOU have a chance when you’ve made the exact same mistakes my friends and I made?! At least WE were fighting against Thrune in the early days; I can’t even imagine the power they hold now after 60 years in power.”

Edrakk taps his foot as he thinks for a moment. "I... d-don't really have a good answer for you."

He laughs a bit. "I mean, I'm a chef. And s-sure, I've picked up a few other things too--poisons, explosives, medicine, I like to think I'm a decent thief--but I'm not a politician. All I really want after this is a restaurant with a well-stocked kitchen and maybe an underground alchemy lab, not having to worry if the portrait of a devil-worshipping tyrant in the front room is prominent enough, and to only get dirty looks from people who's dishes I over-spiced (which isn't my fault, I can't taste capsaicin) instead of from people who buy into Thrune's propaganda because I happen to be distantly related to a harmless animal that Barzillai decided was a pest. I want to be able invite my parents to visit without dealing with the restrictions at the ports so I can cook for them again. I won't even care if they nitpick and criticize everything I make them, it'd be a comfort at this point, especially since I can barely get a letter out as it stands. And if we pull this off, I'm gonna sell a dish called the Silver Raven Sundae of mint vodka ice cream covered in silver sprinkles the shapes of birds, because what possible reason would you have for banning mint??"

He takes a few deep breaths, evidently having let out a lot of frustration that he'd been holding in for far too long.

"I don't... a-actually think I'm gonna get that, though. A-at least not anytime soon. Even if we do manage to get them out, i-it's gonna be bloody, and leave a lot of the city needing to be cleaned u-up. I-I'm not trying to ignore that."

"But l-like Chance said, we stopped Barzillai's masquerade from t-turning to a complete massacre. We--well, I think this might've been before I joined--stopped the tooth f-fairies, we stopped a-a serial killer, we broke the blockade at Bleakbridge, and we've freed other political prisoners before you. Even if we can't win, e-even if the whole threat is insurmountable, we c-can still help, I think. Even if it's just in small ways, it... I think i-it's worth it to help where we can. This city is being crushed under the Thrunes, but even if we can't stop them... we m-might be able to provide people some relief."

I've been binging a certain show lately and it took everything in me to not just quote the speech word for word, lol

Do we have any teleportation or are we sneaking back out?

After the Warden falls, Edrakk starts looking around at his allies, trying to diagnose their injuries, before realizing that most have little more than bruises.

He sighs as he gets out his healer's kit and starts working. "No one to poison... invisibility to sneak... barely any injuries... next you're gonna say you've all stopped needing to eat."

He crouches down by Jackdaw, investigating her condition.

I'm a little confused how you'd still be standing. The haunt's first action did 12 hp. You shield blocked with what looks like a standard steel shield. That would have a Hardness of 5, which means you (and the shield) would each have taken 6 hp. The second round did 14 hp damage, which would have been 20 total.

Certainly could be missing something -- that's easy to do in PBP, especially since I don't know everyone's characters well.

Right, I forgot that they'd still take the damage with the shield.

Things to know:

Doctor Avery Bellows was, for quite some time, one of the foremost experts in monster taxonomy, with a particular focus on demonology. However, in the past few years, he's been acting quite peculiarly: going dark for weeks at a time, showing up unannounced with knowledge of things yet to happen, or appearing again with no knowledge of things that happened just days ago. Even his career in the Pathfinder Society started strangely: about a week before he signed up to be an agent, he appeared in the grand lodge claiming to have been an agent for years, and remembered nothing about it when he was signing up later.

He can breathe underwater and has a swim speed, so that part shouldn't be an issue. He primarily fights at range, and has a decent number of skills. However, he is, as a huge nerd, incredibly frail.

"This is the address, right? I'm not getting that wrong? It certainly looks worn down enough."

"Alright, well... are you ready to explore an abandoned building that... probably violates every building code in existance?"

"Wh--no, this won't just be work. There'll be... monsters? Probably? They wouldn't have hired us if that wasn't part of the worry."
"...although if the company is planning on using this building, they'd probably appreciate a preliminary inspection..."

"Fine, fine, I'll try not to get too distracted."

As Saja lights the lantern, the double doors creak open again, and in steps a large, greying Nuar in what looks to be a business uniform--dress shirt, tie, briefcase, and glasses--stretched over a heavy suit of armor. He seems very apprehensive as he enters, seeming both nervous and as if he doesn't particularly want to be here.

He clears his throat. "You're the, uh, Starfinder agents, correct?" He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a wallet, opening it and holding up a government ID. "Oshari Soteria, Government Health & Safety Inspector. And, uh, Starfinder agent now. Apparently."

"Oh, and, uh, this is Ariadne. Don't be shy, they're nice people. I think." he says, gesturing at his shoulder and switching to a much softer voice.

I'm a bit confused about the timeline of when these conversations are taking place, so if Barzillai's corpse is not available here for inspection or cathartic whacking, ignore those pieces.

Also, Edrakk is yelling a lot in this post, and while I don't intend it to be directed at any of the pcs at all, do let me know if it's too intense.

Once the fighting dissipates, Edrakk immediately gets to work on triage, making sure Rexus and as many guests as he can are stable. He used up most of his immediate healing resources in the fight, but he's still a very good medic, so lack of supplies aren't as big of an issue as they otherwise might be.

Then, he makes his way to the corpse of Barzillai Thrune. "Feel's like he's gonna pop up and ambush us any second now." he mutters. After a moment of nothing happening (I assume) he kicks the corpse a little, inspecting his wounds, before calling out to the group. "A-are we sure this is him?" he asks. "I mean, he might just be a devil in disguise or something. He got all these other ones, doesn't seem too implausible."

Jisara wrote:

Later, when the shock seems to have worn off a bit, she still sits unusually still, idly stroking Thatch's fur as he lays in her lap.

"I don't understand it," she whispers. "Why do all of this? Why not just kill us months ago?"

"That part makes sense to me, at least. If he just killed us, we'd be martyrs, and w-we'd end up inspiring another rebellion. Just like the last Silver Ravens did, I suppose." He sighs, taking his glasses off and wiping them on one of the few non-bloody patches of his suit remaining, and puts them back on. "This way, he could take care of us and make it seem like we were killed attacking innocents. He could probably take out a few other political enemies while he was at it, too. What I don't understand is why he tried to fight us directly."

He looks back at the corpse, staring into Thrune's lifeless eyes. "What was your plan?" After a moment, seemingly waiting for an answer, he kicks the corpse again, much harder this time. "What was your plan?!? I get the sacrifices for political gain, that's the kind of bulls@$# power calculations your empire f~!%ing runs on. You watch the carnage and pin it on us, I get it. It's awful and inhuman, but not the slightest bit out of character for you. But then you jump into the fray yourself?!? And not even to die by our hand, making you a martyr, but to get trampled by the mob!! What kind of plan was that?!?" He starts pacing, still half-shouting at the corpse. "Were you hoping to get the killing blow? Make yourself into the big hero of the day? But if that was the case, why not wait until all of your other soldiers whittled us down and step in like some great warrior? Did you want to be a martyr? Did the f++@ing devils you sold your soul to promise you riches if you made your name top of the casualty list? Is this even you?!? Or are you just watching from some crystal ball underground, laughing at us for being fooled for even a second by the facade you're putting up??"

Suddenly he stumbles, the blood loss he sustained catching up to him, and sits down, taking off his glasses to pinch the ridge of his beak. "Or..." he says, defeatedly, "were you just an idiot figurehead the Thrunes put up to make them look strong... making me the bigger idiot for believing it?"

At the appearance of the shark and Menotheguro, Edrakk swims back suddenly in a panic, trying to keep away from the flurry of tentacles and teeth. Quickly, though, he regains his composure, as he realizes that, unlike the hordes of undead they had faced today, both creatures before him were (as far as he could tell) alive.

Not hesitating to take advantage of that fact, he draws a vial of almost-stale fungal spores and hurls it at the shark.

I really hope I'm correct in that conclusion, because otherwise I don't have much else I can do, besides heal people.

Edrakk has Enduring Alchemy, so his creations last until the end of his next turn, although replacing it with a strike here was probably a good plan.

Also, sorry for my absence, I've been dealing with move-in stuff for college over the last few days so I haven't had much time.

Edrakk lobs the vial of reddish gas at the three-headed beast. When it breaks (either against the ground or the monster), it explodes into a cloud that starts crystalizing into large red snowflakes, flying out and sticking into whatever they hit.

The spaces around it are now covered in caltrops, which is not good for Vitalis where he is now. Since Edrakk's turn resolves first, he shouldn't take any splash, but he's still entering the square with the caltrops. He does have a reach weapon, so having him move 1 fewer square could work, if you're ok with it, unless you had a specific reason for him being adjacent to the cerberus.

Seeing Jisara limp away, however, catches his attention. "Hold on, uhh..." He grabs some medicinal herbs from his pockets and starts trying to treat her wounds.

He then pulls out a bolt and loads his crossbow.

During the next week, a new rebellion recruit, a young tengu of around college-age, helps out in the kitchen of the coffee shop (assuming Laria's ok with it). He also accompanies Chance in spreading false rumors.

Earn Income - Cooking Lore lvl 5: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 0.9 * 5 = 4.5 gold

Spread Disinformation, Secrecy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21

I'm not sure what other activities he could do, and since he's very new, it seems like it would make sense if he didn't have any particular rebellion duties, but if anyone else has any suggestions, let me know.

Later in the week, the young tengu nervously approaches the rebellion leaders. "Excuse me, uh--" He takes a pause. "I'm not sure if you've all seen yet, but I just saw Barzillai's newest proclamation, hold on--" He reaches into his bag and pulls out a scroll, and reads it aloud. "BY ORDER OF LORD-MAYOR BARZILLAI OF THE THRICE-DAMNED HOUSE OF THRUNE, THE CONGRESS OF HELLKNIGHTS KNOWN AS THE ORDER OF THE TORRENT IS FROM THIS DAY FORWARD STRIPPED OF ITS CHARTER! ALL OF ITS HOLDINGS AND POSSESSIONS ARE CONFISCATED, ITS PRIVILEGES AND ENTITLEMENTS REVOKED, AND ITS MEMBERS DECLARED OUTLAWS! STEADFAST CITIZENS ARE COMMANDED TO TURN OVER THOSE MEMBERS WHO HAVE SLIPPED THE NET OF JUSTICE!"

His eyes dart between the leaders, settling on Vitalis for a second. Doesn't he have some kind of connection with them? Am I remembering that right? Should I... say something?

While Rigel seemed quite happy with the devil's demise a moment ago, as her words repeat in his mind and the beginnings of a theory begin to form, he seems more hesitant. "What 'eccentric fop'?"

I'm starting to wonder if maybe the contract is in the documents that Rexus is decoding? It certainly fits the description of "that eccentric fop wouldn't get away from it", and he's still a long way from finishing all of them. I might just be misunderstanding what the documents are supposed to be, though.
Another possibility is she's trying to trick us into destroying the documents by making us think it's her contract.

Rigel gives himself another look-over in the mirror before leaving. He’s wearing a quite colorful outfit, mostly red with a few patches of orange, and a feathered hat. I hope wearing my armor underneath doesn’t get too uncomfortable. He checks once more in his bag, seeing a dark blue mask and cloak, both covered in his own less-than-successful attempt at embroidering a starry pattern. He steps out and, trying to hide his nervousness, puts on his usual chipper expression and half jogs, half skips towards the site of the protest. He doesn’t bring any sort of signs or flags, but that’s okay, he’s not there just to yell and try and make a point, and he figures not being weighed down would help.

Once there, he does his best, despite his conspicuous outfit, to blend in with the bustling crowd of people. Being a former circus performer, Rigel is no stranger to crowds, but nevertheless is taken aback by the sheer number of people, and he struggles to make his way through. Eventually, he locates what appear to be a group of anarchists, and settles himself walking next to them. A little chaos never hurt anyone. Well, anyone who didn’t have it coming, anyway. He’s tempted a few times to respond to a couple of people who try and argue against them, but instead resigns himself to observe for now and see how the crowd of people acts. Wouldn't want to draw unnecessary attention to myself anyway.

Watch the crowd, Perception +4

Also, does Rigel see any flagpoles or lampposts or other structures that could serve as a vantage point for acrobatic stunts?

Hello all, Tusk told me you were looking for another player and suggested I throw my hat into the ring (after checking with the GM). I'd be excited to play in this AP. I have a couple concepts for you to look at.

1)
Tengu (if that's ok) toxicologist alchemist with the cook background, a student at Alabaster Academy
Reason for protest: To protest the government, specifically, the pest control proclamation, since he's kind of a big raven

2)
Human cosmos oracle of Desna, acrobat background, planning on taking the Vigilante dedication next level, an aspiring acrobat who's secretly trying to use his cosmic powers for good
Reason for protest: Either protest the government, since his religion is outlawed, or meeting a contact

So I am currently playing in a Reign of Winter campaign, and

Spoiler:
we are at the last point where we can shop before the end of Book 2. One of the magic items we encountered is a Ring of Life Bleed, which looks like a Ring of Regeneration, but actually deals extra damage after each melee/ranged attack. The description states that the curse can be broken with a “Remove Curse, Wish, or Miracle” - but it doesn’t say anything about Limited Wish. So, my question is, if you duplicated Remove Curse (3rd level, duplicatable even if opposition school) with Limited Wish, would it succeed in breaking the curse, despite the fact that it does not state so in the spell description? I say yes, but I’m not sure.
