For some reason, I didn't think shield block would apply. I'll go ahead and do that against the first rat attack.

Jisara frantically swats and stomps at the rats attacking her, before finally gathering her wits about her. "Chance, get the Hell out of my way," she growls, a cloud of negative energy building around her outstretched hands.

I'm going to delay until Chance moves, then cast grim tendrils directly south of me. 30-foot line, basic Fortitude save DC 18. After that, I'll step 1 square to the SW of my current position. Thatch, being smarter than any of us, is going to run for it.

Negative damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 Plus 1 persistent bleed

Grim Tendrils:
Critical Success The creature is unaffected.
Success The creature takes half the negative damage and no persistent bleed damage.
Failure The creature takes full damage.
Critical Failure The creature takes double negative damage and double persistent bleed damage.

Shield Block doesn't apply to the rat swarm; I was referring to the attacks made by the giant rats.

Trigger You would take damage from an attack, spell, or other effect.
Your supernatural connection sometimes causes you to phase from reality when under threat, disappearing for split seconds before reappearing—often surprising you as much as your enemies. Roll a DC 16 flat check. On a success, you gain resistance to all damage equal to your level against the triggering effect, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to saving throws against that effect until the start of your turn, and you gain the dazzled condition for 1 round.

Chance spreads out his hands and wiggles his fingers at the orange, green, and blue rats. He calls out "Gustumu la ĉielarkon!" and a wave of swirling colors rolls over the unusual-sized rodents.

The gnome takes a Step back and to the side, behind Rigel. {If someone can move Chance behind Rigel, please do so - I'm on my iPad and normally don't have any trouble with Slides, but tonight I can't seem to select Chance's token.}

Chance lets loose a cone of color against the rats.

Will Saves:
Orange: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Green: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Blue: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

And is met with varying degrees of success from the rats’ reactions.

Jisara stretches out her hand and inky black tendrils shoot forth from it!

Basic Fort:
Swarm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Blue: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

The tendrils reach out to each individual rat in the swarm, causing them to bleed profusely before ultimately dying! Thanks to their weakness, that gets rid of the swarm. Also, you technically have to take an action to command Thatch to do anything, but considering the swarm is gone, I presume you would just keep Thatch in your space then Step to the south.

Rigel reaches out and grabs hold of Orange!

Orange Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Vitalis cleaves the rat in half and rushes toward the devil they know!

Blosodriette smirks. ”Au contraire…” She flies straight at Vitalis and perches directly on the paladin’s left shoulder. ”…I’ve only just begun!” With a flick of her tail she stabs at Vitalis with the stinger at the end of her tail!

Vitalis Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Considering a) less than a week left before Hero Points reset, and b) Vitalis is currently at dying 2 and would become dying 3 due to that failed save, I’m making the executive assumption that Vitalis would use a Hero Point to reroll that save!

Reroll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

As Vitalis falls to the ground, Blosodriette giggles. ”Well, how unfortunate for him. Hahaha!” Blosodriette then flies past the paladin’s unconscious body.

Green Strides forward and all of the rats attack! I’ll handle the Fort saves after all the attacks.

Rigel 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Fail
Rigel 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Fail

The damage below is assuming no one Shield Blocked or used a Hero Point to reroll one of those failed Fort saves (except Vitalis's); I’ll retcon after the fact if those things would have been used. Vitalis’s name is highlighted because it’s under the assumption that someone is going to heal him; if no one does, then I’ll just void whatever post he makes. Once again, Vitalis, being knocked unconscious makes you drop everything held, so you need to use an action to pick up you glaive.

I'm assuming I can know that.

”Well, your understanding is wrong! If you kill me, then I’m dead, plain and simple! Burn my contract and send me back to Hell, please! I’d rather that than actually die!”

Tangent:
I’ll be honest, I don’t know where you got that, but when creatures of the Outer Spheres die, their quintessence (the material that makes up their body and soul) goes into the Maelstrom to eventually be recycled into new, unaligned quintessence to be molded in the Positive Energy Plane. My lore on this topic is a bit rusty, but I'm 85% sure that what you just said is not true. The only case I know of where what you said is true (where a creature "dies" but doesn't actually die) is the fey of the First World, and I'm 100% sure that that only happens when the fey dies in the First World.

"For the love of..." Jisara sputters, then hides a frustrated scream behind clenched teeth. "If all you wanted was to go home, you didn't think to just ask for someone to do that for you? Were you afraid we would want some imp lurking in the basement leading an army of giant rats? I've half a mind to feed you to my cat after all, unless you can provide us with something useful as repayment for all the trouble you've caused."

And besides, this self-righteous assh*le,” She motions to Vitalis. "Was hell-bent on killing me! Pretty sure any 'please'-s and 'thank you'-s wouldn't have done squat!"

Thatch sits back on his haunches and fixes Blosodriette with his eye. "No more tricks, no more schemes." His gaze slowly moves to meet Vitalis's, and he nods. "Kill it."

Jisara, amused, crosses her arms and leans back against the wall. "I have to agree with the professor. She's caused us enough grief."

While Rigel seemed quite happy with the devil's demise a moment ago, as her words repeat in his mind and the beginnings of a theory begin to form, he seems more hesitant. "What 'eccentric fop'?"

I'm starting to wonder if maybe the contract is in the documents that Rexus is decoding? It certainly fits the description of "that eccentric fop wouldn't get away from it", and he's still a long way from finishing all of them. I might just be misunderstanding what the documents are supposed to be, though.
Another possibility is she's trying to trick us into destroying the documents by making us think it's her contract.

”I entered into a contract of servitude with House Sarini decades ago. I can’t stray more than several dozen feet from the physical contract. The contract got taken and put underground where I couldn’t get to it. I spent years trying to get help—my divinations into the future are vague and cryptic at best, but after decades of deciphering the riddles I managed to open up a portal to Hell to get help. Unfortunately, instead of something like a barbazu, all I managed to pull in were three lemures before the entire portal crapped out on me! Then you guys came and took my contract with you! I’ve been trying to get the contract back, but at this point I don’t even care anymore! Destroy the contract and my terms of service will be complete and I’ll return to Hell. I know I attacked you, but I have not lied to you guys once—withheld some truth for my own advantage, sure, but I haven’t flat-out lied to you at all!”

Hero Point to Rigel for hitting the nail on the head; the documents you got from the livery were largely stuff related to the original Silver Ravens, but also among them was Blosodriette’s contract.

"Pipes." Vitalis holds out his hand for the imp to give him the rat-summoning instrument. "If you try anything, you won't be given a second chance."

"Does anyone know how to identify this contract? Did we try detect magic? Unfortunately, I don't think I have anything to offer for this task."

| Strange Aeons | Hell's Rebels | Prey for Death | ◆◇↻

For the record, you did use detect magic on the documents, you just couldn’t sort out which was magical and which wasn’t due to just how many documents there were.

Blosodriette hands over her pipes with no objection. ”Last I recall, the contract was disguised as a ledger. Not sure if it still is, though…”

Surprised by the idea that they have had an infernal contract under their noses for weeks, Chance paces quietly a few moments before speaking. Finally, he looks up. "So maybe one or two of us ought to go see if R... the eccentric fop really has a ledger that might be it. If he does, we could bring the ledger - and only the ledger - back down. The rest of us can keep our guest company, make sure she doesn't leave too soon or invite any more of her friends." Glaring at Blosodriette, he adds, "I can go."

Sorry for the lack of detailed posts these past few days; I’ve been real distracted with a new video game.

Time to do some railroading: As long as someone keeps an eye on her, Blosodriette doesn’t try to escape or do anything sneaky. Chance goes to Rexus (who is still looking for Finn’s rat) and asks about a ledger. Rexus is initially confused, but easily acquiesces. ”Yeah, there’s an old ledger among the documents that was out of place. I thought it was used for decoding some other cipher, but I wasn’t able to figure out its use.” Rexus hands over the ledger with little convincing.

The ledger itself is quite mundane and boring—detailing various transactions that occurred decades ago. The ledger, however, doesn’t detect as magic.

”Touch the page and say ‘raisin.’” Blosodriette explains.

Sure enough, when someone follows the imp’s instructions, the ledger shifts from detailing financial transactions into a slew of legalese—this is indeed a contract.

When someone destroys the contract, Blosodriette sighs sadly as she disappears in a puff of smoke that smells of brimstone. All that is left behind is her virtuoso pan flute and a gold ring with a sapphire (worth 20 gp) that the imp was wearing as an armband. Inventory Updated

As the PCs wake up the morning following their confrontation with Blosodriette, they are greeted by an unfamiliar person sitting in the den just outside their rooms this is different from where customers normally are in the coffeehouse. A young tiefling woman with red skin and curving horns drinking a cup of coffee. She notices the PCs and smiles at them, revealing a pair of eyes with unsettling rectangular pupils. ”The, uh, slip woman told me to wait up here for you. Sorry.”

When Jisara wakes up, the woman smiles more warmly at the fellow tiefling. ”Hey, Jisara.”

Jisara:
This is kinda related to that “Some roleplay stuff” PM I sent you some time ago. This is Zea, a Beastbrood (rakshasa-descended) tiefling from the Devil’s Nursery. You’ve met on previous occasions—usually events related to the Cloven Hoof Society—but you don’t know her super well; you’re acquaintances at best.

What do you do?

Jisara visibly deflates as Zea goes on. "You heard right," she says, sighing. "I thought I might be able to find some clues as to what happened to Strea, but mostly I just found some well-meaning humans and our gnome friend there."

"Zea, I'm glad you came to me. I know it's hard, but I need you to tell me everything you know, even if it's something you think doesn't matter. When was the last time anyone saw Nedani and Carnon? Society 12:
The Temple Hill Slasher is a folk legend in Kintargo: a cold-blooded killer that brutally dismembers their victims just for the sport of it. The Slasher is something of a boogeyman in Kintargo.

Spoiler:
The Temple Hill Slasher was actually a real person: Alander Mangvhune, professor of Anatomy at Alabaster Academy several decades ago. He was condemned for a series of serial killings that occurred in Temple Hill and was executed for his crimes.
