Hi y'all, I should be able to return to the tables after this weekend. I hope you won't mind having me with you again, I know I've been sick for a very long time (I still don't feel completely fine, hopefully next week will be better). In any case I'll try to catch up and post on Monday, have a nice weekend y'all!

Hey y'all, sorry for the prolonged silence. I still feel very shitty, I don't really have the strength to put into PbP. I'm sorry, but for now I have to pause all my games on the forum. Feel free to either kick me or bot me, either is fine. Tomorrow I'll finally get tested for COVID and I'll know what to do for this illness. Thank you for your understanding.

Guys, I'm very sorry, but I need a couple of days to get better. I caught a very bad cold, my head feels just like two balloons [cit.], I need some time to recovery. I'll try to write something Friday or Saturday, ok? Meanwhile I will get tested for COVID, hoping everything will be fine.

Players roll Perception checks every 30 seconds at the table, be it PFS or home game. Maybe they did that on purpose.

I've heard of the timestamps problem, hadn't experienced myself yet though.

I think that maybe they should think about updating the forum, solve the major issues while perhaps giving us some QoL, but this is quite the hot take since I know nothing about how sites like this works.

4 people marked this as a favorite.

I don't understand if this is an issue on my end or the site's, but almost every time I post on the forums it takes several refreshes to see what I posted (30 to 60 seconds usually). That's a bit inconvenient, since it may lead someone to think their post hasn't been sent, making them post more and creating duplicates. I've already cleared my cache, but it didn't change much.

Also sometimes I get a blank page with a danger sign on the upper left, saying something about backtracking too much, when I try to post or edit something. What can I do about this?

Thank you in advance for your help and time.

Syco's chattering teeth are so loud that he almost can't make out what the people people ((c) Baldrum Battlehand) his chatty teammates are saying. The thing that's annoying him most is the fact that he can't really enjoy the magnificence of the frosted garden, so focused on the cold as he is at the moment. He would like to ask the Baroness how can he warm himself up in this Sarenrae-forsaken land, but is probably better if he keeps his mouth shut (as much as he can in between his teeth chattering).

What are the broad strokes of playing masterless? How does it work?

Well, it really depends on the method you want to use, but substantially can be done either by having no GM at all, and the players use some randomness system to determine outcomes together with a "behavior system" to avoid cheating (like "oh, there was a belt of giant strength +4 in the room, of course I would have checked for treasure so I get it"), or one player takes the mantle of "GM-Lite" and plays the adventure with his own PC, but making it procede in a way that is not too spoiler-y for him and prevents him from cheating. The "rules" (though it would be better to call them "methods" perhaps) are thoroughly described in the two books I've mentioned. I'm reading through them again to have a better understanding about how to apply them to PbP.

So, it's half past 1am on this boring Saturday, and bored as I am I came up with this weird thought.

I've been flirting with the idea of soloing Rise of the Runelords for more than a month, but never found enough interest to actually start the project. I have the adventure, I made the party, I read DM Yourself and DM Yourselves to learn how to play solo or masterless, I've even prepared the whole first module on Roll20, but something is stopping me from starting my lonely adventure in the world of make believe.

So I thought "Why not playing the adventure with other people masterless?", and the idea seemed intriguing, but I don't really feel ready to play that way on VTT. So I wondered if playing an AP masterless on PbP would be something possible or just a completely foolish idea.

What do you guys think? Am I a visionary or just mad in the head? Do you have any suggestion for such a game?

Thank you in advance for your answers and time.

With a brief walk upstairs and down the halls of the Lodge you reach the study of Ms. Firewyne. The door is ajar, and you can hear some strange, muffled sounds, like flapping of wings, and something more "arcane" in nature. You approach to open the door, but someone opens it for you just moments before: a pixie dressed in some kind of leaf waistcoat with a bow tie made of petals greets you with his shrill voice. You must be the one interested in Ulisha's note, right? That, or you're the delegation from the Five Kings Mountains we were expecting some twenty years ago. Plus a half-elven person, I imagine he's your valet or guide or something. Anyway, Ms. Firewyne was expecting you. For a long time, if you are indeed that delegation. Please take a seat, tea will be served soon.

The office is a messy, large library where everything is designed to accommodate creatures smaller than yourselves. Small stepladders, small chairs, a small desk filled with books that almost reach the roof, which is strangely high, like the room was initially two different rooms on different floors. The room is obviously filled with books, some strange magical contraptions, multi-colored plants, and there is an unclear number of tiny fey flying or jumping around, some dusting the shelves, some reading the tomes, some just vaguely roaming without an apparent aim. You hear some noises from behind the mountain of books on the desk, and from over that emerges the head of a middle aged gnome woman, with cherry-pink hair and bright blue eyes; she wears a pair of round, big eyeglasses which make her eyes look even bigger.

Oh, there you are! Do you know how long I've been waiting for you? Almost twenty years! I've sent word to the Grand Lodge that I needed to talk with emissaries from the Five King Mountains so long time ago that now I don't even remember why I wanted to talk with you gentledwarves! And half-elf. Is it your guide? Yes, he probably is. The little woman climbs down the pile of tomes and stands on the edge of the desk, hands on her hips, with an expression halfway between annoyed and cheery. She's dressed with an oversized lilac-colored tunic embroidered with colorful flowers and stars needleworks. Anyway, if you'll excuse me I need to find my notes from two decades ago to remind why I sent for you to come here. It probably has to do with fey activities in your country, but better to be sure, don't want to send you home without asking all the questions I need answered and having to wait twenty more years to see an emissary of yours again.

She jumps down the desk and quickly walks toward one of the stepladders on the right. But please, take a seat, don't need to stay up while I search for my journal. Would you like some herbal tea? Mostel here makes a wonderful flower infusion with local ingredients, calming and energizing at the same time, I don't know how he does it, he won't tell me. She then calls for the pixie butler and asks him with a more gentle tone Oh Mostel, please take the large cups for our tall guests, wouldn't give them just a little sip of your tea. The little fey is in a corner of the room, using what seems a small magical stove with a larger teapot over it; the aroma coming from that part of the office is quite refreshing.

There are four small chairs around the room, which would fit a dwarf, but a taller humanoid would look pretty weird sitting on them.

To expand on this, is there any notion that we want this group to continue in something like a GM rotation, or just that you want to see everybody here offer something at some point? (or maybe a mixture of both?)

I just want you all to give as much as you receive: just run a legal PFS game here on the boards, be it a Quest, a Scenario, a Module, or an entire Adventure Path, that's up to you.

I didn't thought about GM rotation, but it's an idea I don't want to discard right now. We can talk more about this once the group is fully formed.

Less than 11 hours before recruitment closes! Tomorrow I will set up the Gameplay tab and start the Quest! Can't believe I'm really doing this!

Hello everyone.
A wise man once singed "You Get What You Give", so I thought (with some higher help) that maybe if I want to play more PF1E PbP I should run more PF1E PbP. So here I am, trying my hand with The Silverhex Chronicles, just to wet my toes in the ocean.
This would be my very first time GMing a PbP game. I've tried at least once before, but some health issues stopped me before even starting the game. Now I feel better, and I'm determined to start this adventure and finish it.
This will be a "first come, first served" kind of recruitment. The Quest is aimed toward players new to Organized Play, but I doubt there will be many newbies here wanting to play 1st Edition games. Anyway everyone is well accepted at the table, and if you're an experienced player please keep in mind that this is my first attempt at this kind of thing, so be gentle and don't hurt me too much. Also any advice would be very welcome.
The only thing I ask to my future players is this: if you want to play at my table you have to run a PbP game yourself using PF1E rules. You can run another PFS Quest (nice), a PFS Scenario (good), a Module (awesome), or even an AP (wonderful). You can run it while playing this Quest, or wait until it's finished. I'm asking this to get some more life in the PF1E PbP scene, which is kind of diminished since the release of the new Edition.

But Diaz, why don't you just play PF2E?:
For many reasons. First, I like the 1st Edition, it reminds me of my first steps in the TTRPGs world with D&D3E. Second, I still haven't finished any AP or Module from this Edition, and I really like to be able to do it (especially the Runelords trilogy). Third, I have some PFS1E characters which I'd like to play and and level up. Fourth, I've paid a lot of money to get the complete set of PF1E addons for Hero Lab Classic as well as many Rulebooks and Accessories from Paizo, and I'd hate to see those investments gather dust in the depths of my virtual stash of things.

So, if you agree with my humble request, welcome on board. I will start the game in a week/as soon as there are six other players (whichever comes first) and I've finished prepping everything.

I am dismayed to learn of the destruction of your castle, Your Highness, says Matei in his affable tone, picking up the GTC from Maruta, but I am quite certain that old Kupyn did not intend to harm you out of sheer malice. If you will let me, I will mediate between you and Kupyn myself, but we would need those scallions first, so let me help you rebuild your building.

Having said that, the doctor goes to the remains of the castle of the sprites and tries to rebuild it to the best of his ability.

"Upon a Dead Throne I leer" Matei looks like is squeezing his brain out I think Pharasma sits on a throne made of bones...
"Fatal to mortals below" Ugh, this is giving me a headache Below what? Below the throne?
"My enemies aghast at a Mirror" The young man is visibly trying his best to come up with something useful Aren't vampires afraid of mirrors?
"I fell with Singular Blow" Oh holy Prince of the Moon, how I loathe riddles! What does it mean with "Singular Blow"? As in "a single hit", or "a peculiar wallop"?

Matei is sweating copiously, and not because of the desert heat. Having only two chances left to solve the hated riddle is making him feel like a very big load has been put on his shoulders. Why don't they teach this kind of things at the University? he says to himself, and for a moment his mind goes back to the time of his youth, when he used to attend lectures in the classrooms of the University of Lepidstadt. Aside from the subjects of his medical pursuit he followed also classes about literature from all around the world, but never paid much attention to this kind of compositions. He most probably skipped the lecture about riddles (if there ever was one), deeming it a waste of time. Maybe I should try some lateral thinking? He thinks to himself Gosh, I'm not good at that either. He is quickly turning from worried to nervous, and his brain starts to get numbed by that, thinking clearly becomes ever more difficult. What if we fail? Will it eat us? It sure seems physically capable of that...

My friends, I don't think we have much time, and surely we haven't got much chances left to guess the correct answer. I'm trying my best, I really do, but I need all the help you can give me to come up with something he says to the other members of the party, looking almost desperate.

I don't know how I could use my Hero Point, the clues have already been read by Zendel and Ignatius, and I've already passed the Appeasement check...

EDIT

Suddenly a spark lights up in the young man mind Could it be... a Scythe?

Upon a Dead Throne I leer, The blade of a Scythe stares at you from above a wooden staff.
Fatal to mortals below, It is indeed fatal to anyone who comes under its blade.
My enemies aghast at a Mirror, The blade reflects the faces of its horrified victims.
I fell with Singular Blow Usually one blow is enough to kill with such weapon.

This is the best I can come up with, he thinks to himself, but before telling the sphinx that this is my answer I want to hear the opinions of my esteemed colleagues. He then shares his thoughts with the party, waiting for them to express opinions and suggestions.

"We found this man" begins Matei "With a fake wayfinder. Probably even his permits are forged. He pretended to be a pathfinder on an official mission, all to be able to loot this tomb and profit from the sale of the relics on the black market.".

Matei makes Neferam sit in a shady place, then he starts talking again "Nevertheless he is in a state of shock, and his psyche has suffered a severe blow. I ask our venture-captain to be able to stay for a short time as a guest of the Sothis lodge in order to give Mr. Neferam first treatment during his stay in prison, and then to be able to instruct another doctor on the treatment he needs. I think we all agree that this man needs punishment for his misdeeds, but I see no reason to deny him the medical treatment necessary for his psychological recovery.".

"Gentlemen," says calmly Matei, "please, let us try to keep our coolness, ok? I am sure that this man could explain to us all the real reason why he finds himself here, or who sent him here in the first place.".

He then turns towards the "intruder": "Mister Neferam, am I right? My name is Matei Nakayama, and I'm traveling with this group of fellow Pathfinders to inspect and catalogate this ancient Osiriani complex. I am afraid that our venture-captain didn't inform us of the presence of other colleagues, thus you surely understand that we are surprised to find someone else in here. Sadly we can't take your compass as a proof of your membership to the Society, we need to see your documentation and papers related to this mission. I'm looking for a GM interested in running Pathfinder Society Scenario #5–08: The Confirmation. I have a PC eager to become a full-fledged Pathfinder and prove himself in his first real challenge (I know it's not technically needed to run that scenario to be counted as a real Pathfinder, but bear with me please)!

Hey everyone! I've decided to try my hand at GMing. I'll be running Crypt of the Everflame, the first part of the Price of Immortality series, hoping to run the full campaign in the end.

If anyone is interested here is the recruitment thread (I hope this is a legit place to share this link).

Every autumn, a few of the townsfolk from Kassen make a pilgrimage to the Crypt of the Everflame to light a lantern from the eternal flame that burns over the tomb of the town's founder and bring it back home, where it is preserved all winter, a symbol of the town’s resilience. Most years, the town mayor and a group of dignitaries perform this quest. Every few years, however, a handful of younger townsfolk are given the honor of lighting the lantern. Many see this as a passage into adulthood, a taste of adventure before settling down to work and marriage.

Introduction:
Hello everyone.

My name is Diaz, I'm an Italian guy of thirty-something years old who loves role-playing games in every form. I've been playing RPGs since 2002, starting with Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition, then moving to the subsequent iterations of the ruleset, until I approached Pathfinder.
I'm fairly new to the PbP scene, I'm currently playing in a game of Strange Aeons and one of Age of Ashes, both as a PC, but I want to try my hand at GMing in this game format. I have had few experiences as D/GM in F2F games, I've DMd mostly D&D 4th Edition (which I loved) for a group of kids back when it came out, but I'm sure I'll be able to be at least an OK GM here on the boards.
With this game I want not only to test my capabilities as a GM for the PbP format, but also find a group of nice people to have fun with. I want to make new friedns and grow both as a player as well as a person. I haven't been on the boards for much time, but I've seen a lot of potential in here to create a nice playing group like it is usual in real life.

What am I looking for:
For this game I'm looking for six players, both newbies and veterans, willing to take part in the Crypt of the Everflame module. My idea is to be able to run the whole Price of Immortality trilogy, but for now I think it would be better to commit for just the first part of it.
I'll be using only the Pathfinder Core Rulebook and the Pathfinder Character Traits Web Enhancement. Since this is my first attempt at GMing on the boards I want to keep things as simple as possible, thus this harsh limitation. So if you're looking for a place to play your tiefling gunslinger or kitsune shaman, I'm sorry but this isn't the right place for you.
I'm looking for people who can post at least once every 24h on weekdays, and maybe on weekends too, bar real life events that will obviously come first. I live in the GMT+2 time zone, and I will do my best to post once a day around 6-7pm. I also want people that will be open with me, that can politely point out my errors and help me grow both as a player and as a person.

How do you apply for the game:
Right now I'm not interested in character builds and stat blocks, since the players will build their characters after they've been chosen. At this moment what I want to know about you is:
  • -What is your experience with roleplaying games and, in particular, the play-by-post format;
  • -What is your favourite character class;
  • -What is your favourite race;
  • -What do you expect from this game;
  • -A brief writing example (a character background, an original story, a post in another gameplay thread).

I will try to form an heterogeneous group, especially in respect of experience. I will try to fill at least two slots with new players and at least one spot with a veteran player. I would also like to include in the party an experienced GM, which maybe can help me manage the game at the start.
Recruitment will be open for a week, until Saturday 24/08/2019. Then I will take a day or two to review every post and decide who will become a player character in the adventure. Obviously I will give priority to those who have never played the module before, but if you're an experienced GM who wants to replay the adventure for whatever reason and maybe help me refine my GMing techniques, you'll be welcome to apply.

In summary

  • -This is my first campaign as a PbP GM;
  • -Looking for six players, both newbies and veterans;
  • -Only the Core Rulebook and the Character Traits Web Enhancement allowed;
  • -Able to post at least once every 24h;
  • -Writing from the GMT+2 time zone;
  • -The players will build the party after being chosen;
  • -Recruitment will close on Saturday, 24/08/2019;
  • -Post not following the instructions about how to apply will most probably not been taken into consideration.

Please, if you have any question about the adventure or about recruitment feel free to ask here, the answer may be useful to other people as well.

That said, I hope to see many post in this thread, and be able to form a nice group of people to play with for quite a long time!

@DM Azure_Zero I think I'll be running the Price of Immortality campaign sometime in the future, mainly because it's easy to run and also because I've already GMd the first part once on Roll20 for a VTT group.

But for now I think I'm still too green to GM anything on the boards, I also have some problems that I should take care before starting something this big in my life. Thank you anyway for the advice, I hope I'll be soon able to be a GM for this community.

I'm trying to figure out how the Golarion calendar works. Here they say that today is 15 Pharast 4717, but here is said that the year 4712 AR corresponds to our year AD 1917. Is there an error in one of the two pages? Is time on Golarion working differently from how it works on Earth? I am very confused.

Also, Pathfinder Wiki says that "once every eight years an extra day is added to the end of Calistril to make up for the slight variance in the planet's orbit around the sun", but in the page for the events occurred in 4712 AR they say that "the year 4712 AR is a leap year, with an extra day added at the end of Arodus".So, how can the two worlds share a similar date if one has a leap year every four years and the other only one every eight years? And why did they add the leap day to Arodus instead of Calistril?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hello everybody and thank you for your time.

Is it possible for a PC having his familiar handed down from a relative? Like, my grandfather passed his owl familiar on to me?
