Sorry @GM Computerpro82, I changed my alias for this game. Tha character is still the same, but now I'm using an official PFS alias instead of a substitute one. Can you please remove my other characters from the campaign? Thank you.

Please note the following information, much of which was shamelessly stolen from GM Lysle
Welcome to PaizoCon 2022! This thread is for out-of-character discussion of a Play-by-Post run of a table of Pathfinder 2E adventure 2-19 Enter the Pallid Peak
Game Start Date: Friday May 27, 2022[/b] (I will post the initial briefing handout and beginning information at that time; I anticipate that the game will not begin advancing in earnest until after the live convention concludes.)
Game End Date: Monday July 11, 2022 (PaizoCon requires that the table be completed and reported no later than July 12, 2022.)
PLEASE NOTE: This scenario will be run in accordance with PaizoCon's mandatory timeline above, which is shorter than most tables run on these boards. To ensure completion within the required time, I will be modifying and using several play-by-post conventions to facilitate a quicker pace, intended to maintain player engagement and faster rate of play than usually seen on these forums. These conventions include:
• Grouping initiatives for opponents with to the maximum practical extent;
• Foregoing the of use secret checks;
• Posting the DCs of certain skill checks and providing the results beforehand under spoilers;
• Calling for the posting of multiple rounds of skill checks to speed along skill challenges; and,
• Requesting that players provide "botting" information and/or designating another player to "bot" a PC in the event that the PC cannot post within a 24 hour period. Absent such instructions, I will "bot" players that have not posted within 24 hours of a request for action. In most instances, those PCs that I "bot" will be put delay, so it is often advantageous to the players to make arrangements beforehand.
Even with these conventions, I anticipate that a posting rate just shy of once per day may be required to ensure timely completion. Please make plans accordingly. I realize (and expect) that real life will get in the way of the game at times and that adjustments will inevitably have to be made. Real life concerns, of course, must come first. Nevertheless, the more that can be arranged beforehand, the smoother the run and hopefully the more fun can be had by all.

I have a glyph to give a hero point to another player. Choosing one of the level 1's at random:
1=Galindier 2=Zantal: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Guys, I'm very sorry, but I need a couple of days to get better. I caught a very bad cold, my head feels just like two balloons [cit.], I need some time to recovery. I'll try to write something Friday or Saturday, ok? Meanwhile I will get tested for COVID, hoping everything will be fine.
Ra'uf Steelwheels, Dog of War |
Congrats on the kiddo, and hope everyone feels better soon!
GM Computerpro82 |
Real Life comes first. I may be scarce for a couple of days myself, as my wife has surgery in the morning.
Ankhef Hammerstone |
Hey y'all, sorry for the prolonged silence. I still feel very s*!*ty, I don't really have the strength to put into PbP. I'm sorry, but for now I have to pause all my games on the forum. Feel free to either kick me or bot me, either is fine. Tomorrow I'll finally get tested for COVID and I'll know what to do for this illness. Thank you for your understanding.
GM Computerpro82 |
No problem. I will bot you for a couple of days if you feel like you might want to rejoin when you feel better.
I do hope you feel better soon.
GM Computerpro82 |
Yes you can. Ankhef could easily have moved after your shot. I am OK with playing with the turn order in these situations.

Hi Galindier, I did add the Inspire Courage boost before adjudicating the attack. It was still a miss.

Taking the hardness discussion here from Gameplay.
I probably could have phrased the flavor text better, but here is my perspective.
The Alchemical crossbow hits for 7 points total damage. I don't apply the hardness separately for the two damage types, so 2 points of damage over the 5 hardness.
The Alchemist fire does 5 base damage. My mind wonders, "If the base attack doesn't get through the Hardness, would the Splash damage, and is it part of the same attack?" I decide yes, so the 2 damage goes through, but the 2 Persistent Fire can't overcome the Hardness, so it seems less effective.
Like I said, I could have phrased the text better.

Cool, np! Thanks for the explanation. I get what you were saying now. And yeah I'd assume persistent damage wouldn't get through construct armor.
Splash damage does get added to the primary damage:
"...Add splash damage together with the initial damage against the target before applying the target's resistance or weakness...."
GM Computerpro82 |
Actually, I am maintaining the status of the persistent damage now. I realized that it won't get through the Construct Armor, but if it is still going on when the Construct Armor gets broken, it will have an effect.
Scragatha the Goblin |
Oh great. Now we have a huge guardian construct that's attacking us and on fire!
Just kidding, makes sense though. I see you added it to the initiative tracker.

Hi y'all, I'm feeling slightly better, and should be able to resume my duties as PC and GM toward the end of the week, I hope. Sorry again for all the troubles I've caused you, and thank you for your understanding.

Yes, we will do prize rolls closer to the end of the scenario. Gotta move along
Ra'uf Steelwheels, Dog of War |
I got an email saying they wanted them by the 17th.
GM Computerpro82 |
I did not get an e-mail like that, but I have sent an inquiry
GM Computerpro82 |
We might as well start them then. No harm if they are done early.
prize roll: 1d20 ⇒ 7
GM Computerpro82 |
Not sure how I missed it, but yes they need to be done before the end of this week.
Ra'uf Steelwheels, Dog of War |
Boon (of money): 1d20 ⇒ 10

Still need rolls from

Although it's possible I'm just playing too many games.
Each of those words makes sense individually, but this particular combination is meaningless.

Hi y'all, I should be able to return to the tables after this weekend. I hope you won't mind having me with you again, I know I've been sick for a very long time (I still don't feel completely fine, hopefully next week will be better). In any case I'll try to catch up and post on Monday, have a nice weekend y'all!

Fair enough ruling and I have no issues if that's what we want to do for the rest of the scenario.No persistent damage on a critical success takes care of the main issue. It didn't seem fair to still get the full persistent damage on a successful save, especially on a critical success.
I was having the same difficulty finding the ruling. It seems that for basic saves it makes no distinction between straight damage and ongoing effects.
I'm invested in figuring it out since it'll come up plenty in Scragatha's career as a bomber alchemist.
In the core rulebook it provides an example about splash damage that shows persistent damage is doubled on a critical hit. (But doesn't mention anything about reflex saves instead of attack rolls)
Pg 544, Under splash trait "For example, if you throw a lesser acid flask and hit your target, that creature takes 1 acid damage, 1d6 persistent acid damage, and 1 acid splash damage. On a critical hit, the target takes 2 acid damage and 2d6 persistent acid damage, but the splash damage is still 1. ..."
This implies that on a critical hit, persistent damage is doubled. It seems like it would be the same for basic saves, but so far I can't find anything definitive.
