Tomorrow’s Seekers

Thursday, June 15, 2023

Three years ago, First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo fulfilled her mandate as head of the Starfinder Society and announced her retirement. Four prominent Starfinders stepped forward to vie for the mantle of First Seeker. Each candidate was based on the character of real-world players, and they were featured in Starfinder Society Scenario #2-07: Four for the First. Starfinder Society players from around the world cast their votes and elected Ehu Hadif Ko’ra Amares of Clan Tolar as our First Seeker.

Much like First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo before him, First Seeker Ehu Hadif has announced his upcoming retirement. With the culmination of the Year of Fortune’s Fall, Ehu will be stepping down as First Seeker, and a new first seeker will take his place for the launch of Season 7 of the Starfinder Society campaign.

This past fall, we released a boon that allowed real-world players to submit their Starfinder Society characters for consideration for First Seeker. Over a hundred experienced Starfinders were submitted, and we’ve been hard at work narrowing these Starfinders down to four.

At GenCon this August we’re releasing Starfinder Society Scenario #6-06: Tomorrow’s Seekers, an adventure for 1st- through 4th-level characters that introduces these four candidates. By playing this scenario, you’ll have a chance to meet, question, and go on a mission for each of these four potential First Seekers! When you’re done, swing by paizo.com/firstseeker and vote for your preferred candidate to help shape the future of the Starfinder Society!

Below are a few important notes about this scenario and the First Seeker Election.

  • Since so much of this scenario involves the PCs getting to know specific candidates and the types of missions to expect from them, this scenario eases the restrictions on run time. If you want to play this scenario over an extended time slot or over two sessions to make sure none of the interactions feel rushed, please do so.
  • Because we want players to get to know the candidates and understand that may take multiple play-throughs, Tomorrow’s Seekers will be a repeatable scenario.
  • Though players may experience the scenario multiple times, only one vote per player counts. The First Seeker election uses ranked ballot voting.
  • In late June, our First Seeker Election 2023 landing page goes live! Once it’s live, you can visit paizo.com/firstseeker for more information on how and when to vote, the First Seeker candidates, and other assets, including an in-character information flier on our candidates.
  • In July, visit the com blog for a First Seeker Election roundtable! This in-character blog will give you more details on all four of our candidates, including their personalities, interests, and plans for the Starfinder Society.
  • Voting begins in early August, alongside the release of Tomorrow’s Seekers at GenCon, and closes October 31st, 2023. You can cast your vote at paizo.com/firstseeker. This gives our community over two months to play Starfinder Society Scenario #6-06: Tomorrow’s Seekers and cast their vote for First Seeker.
  • This scenario remains playable (and repeatable) after the voting window closes, players just won’t get the opportunity to vote for the new First Seeker.
  • Sometime in late 2023, we’ll reveal the results of the vote, which will help to shape the direction of season seven of the Starfinder Society, releasing in 2024.

And now, it’s my honor to present a short introduction to our four candidates for First Seeker! For more information, check out Starfinder Society Scenario #6-06: Tomorrow’s Seekers later this summer.

Aurora Everbright, artist Nicholas Phillips
A friendly female halfling pilot and high-speed racer holds her helmet at her side while smiling brightly.

Aurora Everbright

(she/her) daring halfling pilot
Aurora Everbright is an ambitious and bold Starfinder. She’s a pilot and professional racer, and she’s quite media savvy. Aurora believes that the Starfinder Society’s achievements and heroics have gone uncelebrated—a situation she intends to remedy. Aurora has pledged to double funding for the long-running Starfinder Chronicles and to collaborate with a variety of entertainment and media partners to produce a selection of new vidcasts, documentaries, vidgames, and other media for public consumption, all centered on the heroic exploits and groundbreaking discoveries of the Starfinder Society.

Heldin Sevaile, artist Nicholas Phillips
A confident male half-orc scientist and explorer looks up from a tablet computer, after being interrupted in his work.

Dr. Heldin Sevaile

(he/him) brilliant half-orc scientist
Dr. Heldin Sevaile is an intelligent and altruistic Starfinder. He’s a scientist with degrees in botany and biochemistry, and a doctorate in genetics. Dr. Sevaile plans to lead a scientific expedition to catalog the flora and fauna of the galaxy, and create a library of genetic sequences. It’s his hope that scientists and scholars the galaxy over will mine this dataset for potential new medicines and treatments. He’s promised to make any new pharmaceuticals discovered by the Starfinder Society available to the public on a non-profit basis.

Nykiti Lampadephoros, artist Nicholas Phillips
A mysterious female sarcesian spellcaster performs a divination over her scrying mirror. She smiles knowingly, after having glimpsed the future.

Nykiti Lampadephoros

(she/her) insightful sarcesian diviner
Nykiti Lampadephoros is an insightful and mysterious Starfinder. She’s a powerful spellcaster and diviner. Her prophecies and visions often seem frivolous or nonsensical but always prove useful in the end. Nykiti aims to investigate magical occurrences and anomalies, including Kazmurg’s Absurdity, and research the magical objects left uncatalogued in the Society’s vaults and storage spaces.

Sarmak, artist Nicholas Phillips
A curious male izalguun adventurer with multiple scars rests one hand on the pommel of his sword, while examining an unknown technological device held up in his other hand.

Sarmak

(he/him) curious izalguun electrician
Sarmak is a curious and passionate Starfinder. He’s a hunter, engineer, and electrician. He has an intense interest in ancient civilizations that built megastructures or displayed advanced technological capabilities. Sarmak is in the process of organizing an expedition to a city of the First Ones on Aballon. Exploring forgotten sites built by his people, izalguuns, is also a primary interest.

I want to give a hearty and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has and will participate in the First Seeker Election! This is an exciting event that I’m beyond honored to be a part of. I look forward to sharing more information on our candidates soon!

Until then, take care, Starfinders!

So excited for you all to finally meet these four! They've been living in my head rent-free since January and I think they all bring something new and unique to the table.

If you've got questions for these candidates that you'd like me to work into the upcoming roundtable, drop them in reply! You might just see yourself featured in a Paizo blog!

I love the character art. I really need to find an artist that can make characters I enjoy like this.

Yaaaaay New Seeker Candidates!!! And yaaasssss, I am all about Team Large Seeker! Maybe then we'd get some Society ships with rooms built for the husky Large-sized Starfinder!
Very excited to see how this goes!

Also: gentle pre-emptive reminder that Players need not vote solely according to the capricious whims of the PCs they play the scenario with! Starfinders above level 4 deserve representation too :)

Solid lineup, strong mandates. As a non-voter, I can safely say I don't have a clear favorite!

Man, the art on these is gorgeous. And John? You gotta vote. You run so much of our Society Scenarios. From a lore / story perspective, don't you want to have a say on the Season's quest givers?

I have some preferences, but I am so excited because any one of these four would be a lot of fun as First Seeker. It's great that even whoever ends up last on my ballot would still be awesome!

And that art is fan-freaking-tastic. Yay!

Seconded. I enjoy your posts, takes, and lore-dumps - if there's some baseline level of 'worthiness' required to vote in good conscience, you've cleared it! And seriously I know players that will for sure vote that say "Apu Kadif" so

The art is spectacular! Thanks Nicholas Phillips!

This is gonna be so hard, these are all really good mandates.

Alex demanded a meme thread, so I've made one over here with a bit of propaganda already. Have a proper gander at it ;)

I'd be more than happy to vote (on the other hand, I'm also content to sit on the sidelines, eating popcorn), but I assume voting will only be open to folks who actually play the scenario in OrgPlay. If I'm wrong, though, I'll vote! But I honestly don't know who I'd vote for yet! Now I'm anxious! You know who never gets anxious about voting for their leaders? The Veskarium!

Also, yes, the art is uniformly fantastic. And I've mentioned elsewhere, but nice just on the level of getting another male half-orc portrait in Starfinder! They're particularly rare!

Oh, man. Each of my main characters would vote for a different candidate, and would ABSOLUTELY NOT vote for a different one. So, that's one vote for each, and one veto-vote for each. This may be the hardest political decision I'll have to make.

NGL despite the fact that this bunch looks very interesting, I am still tempted to write in Luwazi ^^

So, socially active publicist, xenobotanist, Kazmurg's Absurdity, or Back to the Scoured Stars.

Interesting choices, but notice a missed opportunity for someone who is nonbinary to be seen.

Congratulations to the candidates, may the most interesting sentient win!

Scenario art quality has been pretty consistently high these past couple of seasons, and these are no exception to that trend!

I think I already know which candidate my own nominee would favor, but I look forward to meeting them all in play.

Hmmm... All good candidates... but I know one I won't vote for... Sorry Nykiti, your whole name is too easy to stumble through its pronunciation, the others are much easier to say at a glance. ;)

Remember that we voted in Ehu, who had the longest name ever, and it got shortened.

"But long names are glorious!" pipes up a gnome with brightly hair dyed resembling an exploded rainbow. "Maybe we need a catchy little jingle to help everyone learn how to say 'Nykiti Lampadephoros' properly." The gnome repeats the name to himself a few times, reveling in the cadence of it. "I just need to come up with some really good rhymes..."

Remember these are players characters, so you can't just really write that in. Or. Well. ONE person can I suppose.

Nykiti raised a question for me. Aroden died, which caused prophecy to stop working. Then came the Gap. After the Gap, is prophecy working again?

As someone with a name no one seems to be able to pronounce, I feel the opposite- more representation for unique names! <3

The take I've always assumed Pathfinder (and now Starfinder) goes with is that following the death of Aroden, limited, vague, or fallible prophecy (like augury spells) is still possible. You can predict the future, but you might be wrong, and your actions may tug on the threads of fate, preventing the prophecy from coming to poass.

Whereas prior to the death of Aroden, prophecy was essentially infallible. Fate has declared that you will be slain by a particular sword? Oof, too bad, sorry to hear it, but it is going to happen.

BTW, when it comes to pronunciations, nothing in Starfinder has twisted my tongue more savagely than the scenario that required me to speak sentences in which Kunoris Vex talked about the vesk of Vesk-XX.

Man those are all so awesome but I know which 2 I have narrowed it down to. The artwork is perfect, I love the starfinder logos on everyone.

For no reason in particular will we have stat blocks of the seekers at some point???... could make interesting stories for homebrew.... or plot twists :)

Cool characters, tough choices. I can see scenarios getting really interesting depending on each of their campaigns, and I honestly don't know which I want the most.

I get that "Nykiti Lampadephoros" may be hard to say at first, but for me it feels like one of those obstacle courses where you step in tires. Once you say it right, it feels cool to know you can!

A very nice set of viewpoints, a lot of variety in this round of first seekers to be sure!

Pretty sure my Halfling tokusatsu actor has a very easy pick here though :)
