I'm also going to withdraw. Not because of the amount of applicants. I like the challenge of trying to make a character app stand out with lots of competition. In my case, it's more that I'd like to go Witch, and with the class being overhauled in the Remaster, I don't even want to build one until that drop.

Good luck everyone, and have fun for those that make it, and if you need a replacement down the road, feel free to reach out, though I'm sure you'll have a long list of possible replacement characters as is!

➤ Make one Complete Character (including full onsite Alias), 1st level (to 12th eventually) using the provided Backgrounds (in PG p11-13; or see below)

I've created Hwang Velionar.

Velionar is a half elf, a descendent of the elven community from the Silvermist Lodges.

Never the most gifted scholar, Velionar was always enthusiastic at learning, always wanting to find new things, especially when they are weird. Velionar is fast and witty. He never looks like he lacks confidence, and it is very rare that he does.

He is a believer in the old adage ‘jack of all trades, master of none, is often times better than master of one.’ In fact, the one thing he is really good at is getting in to places he shouldn’t really be. It’s a skill that his mother taught him at a young age and a hang over from her adventuring days.

Now that he is an adult, he wants to be a politician. He loves progress and believes that the town can be so much more than it is.

https://paizo.com/people/HwangVelionar#newPost

Pathbuilder with possibe future build.

I've taken Dragon Spit at 1st, will take the Sorcerer dedication (Draconic bloodline) at 2nd then possibly take Multitalented at 9th for Barbarian (Dragon instinct) and Dragon Prince at 11th with Ancestral Paragon. He will have an underworld dragon ancestor somewhere.

➤ Read the “Willowshore Gazetteer” (in PG p15-16; or see below)

Read.

➤ Choose an Heirloom, or create you own worth about 10.00gp of similar parameter

Supplies for an alarm snare, 10 sp, and two lesser ghost charges. A gift from his mother, given just in case he got into a difficult situation.

➤ Choose your Home on the Map (at or nearby one of the 30 different named locations)

He lives just to the east of the Abandoned Estates (W26) as the shrine of Desna is inside.

➤ Choose a Religion your character identifies with, and describe where it’s temple or shrine is.

Velionar venerates both Desna and Calistria. He visits both the Thrice-Blessed Inn and the abandoned estates.

Finally, please acknowledge the “Horror and Consent” and “About Your Family” sidebars (page 5 and 14 respectively of the Player’s Guide).

Duly acknowledged. I have no issues with any of this.

I see a third confirmation in the macros sheet.

Hey folks,
I'm going to accelerate my initial timeline a little bit (indeed, I already have), and formally recruit a third player; the first two have accepted the invitation into the game.

1) Sigurd Kolphan (Aasimar-Human Folklore Enthusiast Warpriest Cleric / Flexible Spellcaster)
2) Auntie Wu (Gutsy Halfling Outskirt Dweller Leaf Druid / Blessed One)
3) Ho Lan (Skilled Human Close Ties Phoenix Sorcerer / Alter Ego)

With the first volume of the AP due to arrive any day now in the mail, I am eager to begin doing some of the setup and preparation for starting the first official encounter on November 1st. So, recruitment remains open until a week after I receive "The Summer That Never Was" at which time I'll invite the remaining player(s) to join our team. Looking at the spread of characters so far, we will probably still be looking for at least one front-liner, still probably characters selecting from among the other Backgrounds, and most certainly at least one Ancestry who is considered Common in Willowshore but Uncommon elsewhere on Golorian.

To be considered for application, please refer to the requests in this Recruitment Post.

Cheers!

I would file my application with https://paizo.com/people/LotusTheNightWitch

I renamed the character, originally it was called "Wang Nyana".

The required information should all be on the profile page, but just to make sure:
Alias: https://paizo.com/people/LotusTheNightWitch
Background: Southbank Traditionalist
Heirloom: 2 minor healing potions and a repair kit.
Home: Silk farm, 200 ft. south of the Nine Ear Shrine (W9)
Religion/Shrine: Daikitsu / Nine-Ear Shrine (W9)

I acknowledge the "Horror & Consent" and the "About the Family" sidebars.

I hope everything is in order?

I can change his background from close ties to willowshore urchin, which fits well with his adopted background story.

I suspect though that the recruited sorcerer pre-empts a wizard, and the way I imagine this character I don't think there's simple reworking to fix that. E.g. he could switch from wizard to witch, but at the end of the day is another "mage."

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Got a PM asking if posting a 2nd character for application would be okay.

Yes!

(I've always been tempted to myself, just never have...)

I've created a second character then.

I did type in a background story, too. Nothing too fancy, but solid and grounded, I think. To which Paizo.com did reply "You've backtracked too far!", of course. *sigh* Will do it again, just to post so that I can get the obvious idea on the board before anybody else does.

Character Image
(own AI creation using nightcafe.com. Unedited original [link] Yes, the Nightcafe AI has a series problem with drawing proper hands, so if there are hands, or worse the character is holding something, you'll virtually always need to retouch them.)
Miyoshi Kisa - Alias Profile Page
(by the time you read this it's hopefully fixed)
Pathbuilder Sheet

Miyoshi Kisa
CG Female Celestial Envoy Kitsune Swashbuckler (Fencer)

Ancestry: Celestial Envoy Kitsune
Background: Southbank Traditionalist
Heirloom: 2 minor healing potions and a repair kit.
Occupation: Temple Guardian / Cool Aunt to a bunch of nieces, nephews and the kids of Willowshore in general
Home: Nine-Ear Shrine (W9)
Religion/Shrine: Daikitsu / Nine-Ear Shrine (W9)

I acknowledge the "Horror & Consent" and the "About the Family" sidebars.

I've considered a few possibilities to change her class to monk, but it's tricky to move all the points from charisma to wisdom without sacrificing dexterity, at least not while sticking to Kitsune and the Southbank Traditionalist.

So, while in game terms she is a swashbuckler, thematically for all means and purposes she is a monk (or a nun in her case, I guess), it's just that the skill set of a swashbuckler fit better to a nun devoted to Daikitsu.

I have since been invited to a Season of the Ghost game. I thank you for running! Have a spooky time!

I'm thinking about creating a second character too. Probably a Northridge Scholar Nagaji Fighter.

OK, here's the second character: Kaya of Northridge

No "boon slots" spent yet (nagajis, katana, and wakizashi are all common in Willowshore), but she's likely to take the Ritualist Dedication in the future.

NPCs friendships/enmities weren't mentioned in this thread but were mentioned in the "discussion" thread. I assume she would get along well with Jubei, a fellow intellectual who shares her cultural/religious background, and that Elizeth would distrust her for some of her esoteric interests (particularly her knowledge of Necril).

I've joined in with the second character option crew.

https://paizo.com/people/CheroKronock

Chero Kronock

Kron comes across as a charming risk-taker, which he is, but he is also a little bit sneaky and always on the look out for a way to make his own life better and easier. He’d dearly love the town to expand as this would give him a bigger chance of wealth and interesting and weird things to own – things that he’s only seen in books up until this point. As such, he’s been promoting the idea of a school or university in town. He is starting to realise that becoming a politician will help him do it all.

He has ventured out into the woods before – he did grow up here after all – but he has never ventured to the more mysterious and threatening locations nearby. He has recently been doing some work for Kawaka at the Cloud Paper House.

Male Tengu Rogue

Ancestry: Skyborn Tengu
Background: Northridge Scholar
Heirloom: Supplies for an alarm snare, 10 sp, and two lesser ghost charges.
Home: He lives just to the east of the Abandoned Estates (W26) as the shrine of Desna is inside.
Religion/Shrine: Desna/Abandoned buildings

I acknowledge the "Horror & Consent" and the "About the Family" sidebars.

Partial pathbuilder build

Submitting Sekiro for your consideration. Scoundrel Rogue with the Bitter Foundling Willowshore Urchin background. Click on my character if you would like to see the backstory, I kept it brief but can definitely flesh it out.

I built him based on the party you've put together so far and this feels like a good fit.

I acknowledge the horror and consent, and the family sidebar as well.

I'm excited to submit: Xīn Cháo Klak-Klak - Character Sheet in Pathbuilder

Profile (Let me know if you'd like me to copy my build over from Pathbuilder, I'm happy to.)

Character Portrait

Backstory
Certain conversations happened many times in Klak-Klak’s childhood: ”Now Klak-Klak, how did Willowshore come to be our home?”

The young tengu looked up at her papa Ruk-Ku and recited from memory, ”Grandmother Jae-Jae and grandfather Ka-Kyap lived as migrants for many years, fleeing persecution and violence from town after town. When they came to Willowshore they were welcomed and given a chance to roost in peace.”

Her papa Ruk-Ku’s feathers fanned with pride. Meanwhile her human dad, Bai, came and put his arm around Ruk-Ku’s shoulder. ”That’s right, and they started Miàn Wō, the best little noodle house in town…and those noodles led me right to your papa’s heart. I persuaded him to marry me–and keep my belly full–so that I can fill the minds of young scholars such as yourself!”

Xīn Cháo Klak-Klak (surname: Xīn Cháo, given name: Klak-Klak) grew up in Willowshore’s Northridge. She was raised in a mixed family: Her (tengu) papa, Ruk-Ku, runs a small noodle shop downtown, and her (human) dad, Bai, is the history teacher at the local children’s school.

Ruk-Ku immigrated to Willowshore as a young child, forty-years back, as part of a band of Tengu fleeing prejudice and violence. His family found Willowshore to be refreshingly welcoming. They started their own restaurant, Miàn Wō (or “Noodle Nest”), and grew a reputation for bountiful, fresh, hand-pulled noodles–and an eclectic mix of various ethnic Tian Xia tastes–all at a fair price. They eagerly embraced the new home that had embraced them as immigrants.

After Ruk-Ku married his childhood sweetheart, Bai–a bookish human boy with deep brown eyes–Ruk-Ku and his sister Jaekkak took over the family business, while Bai became a teacher.

From a young age, Klak-Klak was inquisitive and showed a broad interest in the lore and sciences, her dad Bae taught her, though her greatest gift was in engineering. She read whatever she could get her hands on, poring over books about engineering, literature, history, and the arts, often staying up late into the night with a lantern, absorbing knowledge and dreaming of the day when she could make a real difference for Willowshore. She became a dedicated scholar, constantly expanding her understanding of various subjects.

Bai has enrolled Klak=Klak in his vision of attracting more scholars and eventually growing a distinguished university within the humble, welcoming borders of Willowshore. Klak-Klak dreams of giving back to the town that has given the Xīn Cháo family so much, and fulfilling her father's legacy by creating this institution for scholarship and artistic exploration.

Klak-Klak understands that for Willowshore to achieve its destiny as a beacon of culture, knowledge, and innovation, there’s work to be done: both clearing new ground for expansion, as well as protecting Willowshore from the troublesome creatures that sometimes wander in from the misty forests that surround them.

Determined to make her vision a reality, Klak-Klak delved deep into the study of engineering, crafting intricate and innovative machines. Eventually she realized she needed someone with more lived experience and so she recently persuaded Huo Tian-Zhe to take her on as an apprentice.

Her crowning achievement so far is a marvelous suit of mechanical powered armor that protects her while boosting her physical capabilities. With this creation, Klak-Klak hopes she is ready to help Willowshore grow into the often-dangerous woods that surrounds the town, ensuring Willowshore has the room to flourish and realize its potential.

Acknowledgements
✓ I’ve read the Willowshore Gazetteer
✓ I acknowledge the "Horror & Consent" themes, and look forward to exploring them together
✓ I acknowledge the "About the Family" sidebar, and would be happy for any of the family members I’ve invented to be incorporated into the story (even if that means them being imperiled, harmed, or killed).
✓ I acknowledge that anti-Tengu prejudice may come to Willowshore (and more than acknowledge it, I think it’ll be interesting to roleplay, especially given how much Klak-Klak’s personal identity is rooted in the ways her family has been welcomed and trusted. I like, in particular, that the Player’s Guide notes that it’s the Northbridge residents who’re more open to being ruled by the jorogumo…since that, again, will cause interesting tensions for Klak-Klak and her parents.)

Personality and Motivations
Klak-Klak is passionate, determined, geeky, somewhat overconfident, and a true believer that Willowshore is great, and destined for more. Her fingers are almost never still: rather, if she’s not tinkering with a new gadget, she’s jotting down notes on the sheaths of parchment she carries everywhere.

She is excited to develop useful devices to help make life easier in Willowshore, and to help further her dad Bai’s vision of developing a great school.

Religion
She venerates Daikitsu as the patron of artifice, and pays some homage to Hei Feng as well, as the ancestral god of the Tengu. In the end though, Klak-Klak feels the most affection for Jin Li, the Golden Dragon Carp, for his determination to continue through failure until achieving success, and for his daring.

(If there’s a shrine to Jin Li in town, it’s likely the place she’d pray at most often.)

Home, and Relations
Klak-Klak was born and raised in Northridge, and still lives with her fathers, but now that she’s apprenticed to Huo Tian-Zhe, she is considering renting a small room near the Second Best.

Heirloom
Supplies for an alarm snare, 10 sp, and two lesser ghost charges. The parts for the snare and the ghost charges are both payment-in-kind for her work as an apprentice at Second Best.

Party Role, and future plans
Klak-Klak is front liner, and I intend her to perform reasonably well at both melee offense and tanking (including some control via Athletics & Tamper). She’s also a true scholar with training in Arcana, Occultism, Society, Nature, Religion, and four Lores (Academia, Engineering, Tengu, and Willowshore).

She may take an archetype at some point. Perhaps Bastion, or Loremaster?…depending both on how she develops and the needs of the party.

Other notes
I've been active on the boards for many years (including playing through Rise of the Runelords from beginning to end, and currently playing in Kiora's Wrath of the Righteous - currently the 4th longest running PbP game on the forums). I am still relatively new to 2e and will definitely make some mistakes (or have a few naive Qs) as I learn...but the first 2e game I played, I jumped into the deep end with a high-level bard and did alright, so I'm confident I can manage an Inventor.

I love to collaborate on backstory with fellow players and with GMs, so if accepted please suggest any changes that might further the overall plot.

Thanks!

(Whoops, too late to edit but wanted to add that I'm planning on the Reverse Engineering feat which would also make Klak-Klak a very capable trap-breaker.)

Dark Archive

Looks through my stash of un-used character ideas. Lol so many casters.

If the recruitment hasn't end by early next week and runs through end of the month, I might be able to work out a front-liner. Either a barbarian who would multi-class into sorcerer (a 2e approximation of the 1e bloodrager); or a magus styled as something of a "Champion of Nethys."

Submitting Yagyū Mitsuyoshi, wood kineticist and son of Jubei the wizard.

Character creation complete (character sheet and pathbuilder links in profile).

Willowshore gazetteer read.

Heirloom is a Purifying Spoon (Teaspoon).

Home is W20 (Mother's Coil).

Religion is Nalinivati, shrine in home.

Horror and Consent: acknowledged, my only request is that no child death is present. I can deal with child endangerment/harm, but would like a heads up if such a thing will appear.

About Your Family: acknowledged, feel free to use as you see fit.

Re: Yagyū, isn't Jubei too young to have an adult son? The Player's Guide describes her as "a capable young adult."

Hm, I had completely overlooked that despite having read the PG like 7 times. Unfortunate.

If I get selected I can work with GM and other players to finalize Yagyū's relation to Jubei, though I'll probably just go with brother or something.

Finally made the alias to formalize my application for Castor...

Hey folks,
So, I am inviting another recruit into the game. Looks like Paizo sent my first volume to my old address (doh!) therefore we will be closer to the original schedule - I will probably recruit a 5th player, and either case will close recruitment once "The Summer that Never Was" arrives on my doorstep.

1) Sigurd Kolphan (Aasimar-Human Folklore Enthusiast Warpriest Cleric / Flexible Spellcaster)
2) Auntie Wu (Gutsy Halfling Outskirt Dweller Leaf Druid / Blessed One)
3) Ho Lan (Skilled Human Close Ties Phoenix Sorcerer / Alter Ego)
4) Kazuki Sato (Skilled Human Outskirt Dweller Flurry Ranger)

Probably still looking for a front-liner and/or an Ancestry who is considered Common in Willowshore but Uncommon elsewhere on Golorian.

To be considered for application, please refer to the requests in this Recruitment Post.

Cheers!

Your shield prevents you from taking an amount of damage up to the shield’s Hardness. You and the shield each take any remaining damage, possibly breaking or destroying the shield.

Glimpse of Redemption Trigger An enemy damages your ally, and both are within 15 feet of you. Your foe hesitates under the weight of sin as visions of redemption play in their mind’s eye. The foe must choose one of the following options: - The ally is unharmed by the triggering damage. - The ally gains resistance to all damage against the triggering damage equal to 2 + your level. After the damaging effect is applied, the enemy becomes enfeebled 2 until the end of its next turn.

Speed 25 feet

Change Shape (Kitsune) (Concentrate, Polymorph, Primal, Transmutation) You transform into a specific alternate form determined by your heritage. If your heritage doesn’t list a form, your alternate form is a tailless form, which is a common Medium humanoid ancestry prevalent where you grew up (typically human). This form is the same age and body type as your true form and has roughly analogous physical traits, such as hair color. Using Change Shape counts as creating a disguise for the Impersonate use of Deception. You lose any unarmed Strikes you gained from a kitsune heritage or ancestry feat in this form. You can remain in your alternate form indefinitely, and you can shift back to your true kitsune form by using this action again.

Lay on Hands Range touch; Targets 1 willing living creature or 1 undead creature Your hands become infused with positive energy, healing a living creature or damaging an undead creature with a touch. If you use lay on hands on a willing living target, you restore 6 Hit Points; if the target is one of your allies, they also gain a +2 status bonus to AC for 1 round. Against an undead target, you deal 1d6 damage and it must attempt a basic Fortitude save; if it fails, it also takes a -2 status penalty to AC for 1 round. Heightened (+1) The amount of healing increases by 6, and the damage to an undead target increases by 1d6.

** spoiler omitted **...

Barnabas is captivated by learning of all kinds, particularly his older sister's choice to leverage her shapeshifting as a sex worker, something he knows there is a great market for should he follow in her footsteps. Thankfully, Ba-Ming Ouh supports both of the Willow's veneration for Daikitsu, and appreciates that they live so close to the shrine. (Northridge Scholar: while Barney has already taken Blessed as his background, he has the campaign motivations of a Northridge Scholar)

Persuant to the Family inset on page 14 of the the PG, Vixen Willow is absolutely someone who could be threatened during the campaign, maybe by fat orange haired ghost in a MAGA hat or something

Not that it really matters, since alignment is being removed with the Remaster anyway, but shouldn't a Redeemer be NG instead of N?

Silver2195 wrote:

I think it's a fair question anyway though, because it will have an impact on the re-design of these characters. My thinking was that a Champion of a neutral deity who was choosing the Tenents of Good at a minimum couldn't/shouldn't choose a fully polarized alignment. That left Redeemer.

Hi! Late to the party, but here's my submission: Human/dhampir monk (build in the profile).

Background: Willowshore Urchin
Home: Kongxu resides in the abandoned estates (W26). So far no one has kicked him out.
Religion: Desna. Not truly knowing the goddess nor the faith, but the abandoned shrine gives him comfort. He burns incense at the shrine whenever he manages to get some in his hands.
Heirloom:One predictable silver piece and a vial containing [one dose of oil of potency. (or something else if cannot pick the same again)
Full background story: TBD

I have read "Horror and Consent" from the Player's guide, and I am totally ok with horror genre.
Also read "About Your Family" - while I imagine Kongxu as an orphan, I can write some close friends etc. trusted to woven into the plot if needed. Also the dhampir heritage would give excellent opportunity for antagonistic family npc's.

About me
I don't think we've played together, so I understand if you regard me as an unknown factor... So here's the relevant info: I was quite active here some years ago with PF1/PFS. Now less so, but a couple of campaigns going on. Played and completed many PFS scenarios, started in a few AP's (and even finished one). I have not played that much PF2, so my rules knowledge is far from expert.

I live in GMT+2 timezone, and prefer posting on weekdays only (weekends sometimes busy).

This is PaleDim's replacement submission.
--------------------
"Champion of Nethys"

Vekka was trained as a Tengu warrior in the mountains. Due to a terrible misunderstanding he was banished from his village and ventured out, eventually settling in Willowshore. On arrival he did not at all understand the differences between the Northridge and Southridge factions of the village, settling in Northridge without a second thought. He did notice something of a cold reception on that side of the river. Friends were few early on.

While keeping up his daily martial training he befriends Jubei who, having studied under Anjal, was used to unusual ancestries. Vekka was deeply drawn to the mystical power of the arcane. He soaked up all Jubei had the time to teach him over their friendly tea sessions. Digging deep into the scrolls at the Mother's Coil the tengu comes across writings about Nethys, in whom he finds a singular source of truth of this power. In this he finds a devotion that fits nicely in the hole left by the banishment from his original village, in which he held a staunch martial devotion. Vekka henceforth vows to seek out and make fruitful use of magicks, and looks to protect wizards, sorcerers, and other practitioners of the arcane. He can only respect their supreme channeling of these powers.

The tengu fashions a very unusual spellbook. Some of his feathers are covered with velum sheets that contain singular large sigil (representing the spell name), and copious tiny text underneath with preparation instructions. Strapped to his back is a large sandalwood ring, with evenly spaced wooden circles mounted on it. When he prepares a spell the sigil appears on one of the wooden circles. When he expends it, the sigil glows and vanishes. They are arranged around his own form in a sort of ornate, arcane display. The sigil-ring (TODO better name?) does not impede the use of his katana, with which he often elects to deliver his spells.
--------------------
Heirloom chosen Two minor healing potions and a katana.

Home One of the more humble houses (but not impoverished) on Northridge, near W20: Mother's Coil

Religion Nethys (worships anywhere he can gain quiet solitude to reflect, but tends to favor doing so in study at the Mother's Coil)

Still need to pick a specialty crafting (although woodworking fits the background really well).

Open to flexing skill training.

Final submissions another 6 hours more please, and that's it. Thanks all for applying!
