Bummer to see you go Conrad. I can't help you with your technical problems, but if you want to make up a totally new PC (we need a Psionic, hint, hint), you're welcome to do so.
Arabella - upon consideration, I think 30p is WAY too low for the binoculars. With the added night vision, and the shrinking to goggles (making it hands-free), due the tremendous advantages this item provides, I think 500p is more appropriate (it would have to be Alliance-built, after all).
Flashlight, dual mode, shoulder mount : 60p
Digital camera : 300p
Harold - SW skill advancement is kind of wonky. One advancement can boost 2 skills one die if their current values are *lower than* their linked Attribute, or one skill that is originally equal to or greater than its linked skill. So the Stealth to d8 is ok, but since your Smarts is d6, boosting Piloting to d8 would cost a whole Advancement. You can either just boost Piloting, or find another skill that's currently less than its linked Attribute, and boost Stealth and it.

Arabella has likely in the past done some things that the Alliance would not approve of or might want to question her about if they knew about them, but as she doesn't have any hindrances like secret or the like, she is not particularly worried about a purchase showing up on her permanent record. She figures making purchases like this just reinforces that she has nothing to hide and is spending some of her platinum to benefit Core-based industry and commerce.
The rules seem vague about how a shepherd qualifies for the post, whether there is a registration process, like for companions, and the like. Feel free to spell any of those out if you like.
Sihnon is listed as the HQ of the Buddhist religion, but Arabella is associated with the Taoists, which I assume would have some official standing similar to the Buddhists (and the Confucians). In Earth history, Taoists have a reputation of being non-conformists. The Shao-Lin developed martial arts in part to train the common people for self-defense against more powerful agents. It's possible the Taoists were/are sympathetic to the browncoats, although as an organization they'd probably try to maintain a neutral stance, at least publicly.
See Yellow Turban Rebellion for an example.
Whether it is historical or not, many martial arts films depict use of martial arts (of which the Shaolin are but one example) in service of rebellions. So there is a rich range of possible roles 'Verse Taoists might have played during the browncoat rebellion. Feel free to narrate any of this or let me know if you'd like me to make some suggestions.
Kung Fu (TV series) is another example. The shaolin temple is actually a Buddhist temple of the Chan (Zen in Japan) lineage. But in the Kung Fu TV show, the master is often shown quoting Lao Tzu and not generally referring to Buddhism. Chan, in any case, developed partly as a mixing of Buddhist and Taoist ideas.

Arabella - I'd imagined that one could just declare yourself to be a Shepherd, and that was it. The quality of your teachings, and the emotional and physical support you gave people, would determine your reputation. AFAIK, the TV series didn't say anything about Shepherds as a group. With at least two major religions, I suppose if you officially joined one of them, and went thru some kind of learning/training, you could claim the title Shepherd, but short of some kind of card ID (which could easily be forged), there'd be no way to prove that you're "official".
The Firefly fan wiki lists the six major current Earth's religions (but not Taoism), but I'd hesitate to call that canon. Since Buddhism is the biggest religion, it would make sense that Taoism and maybe even Confucianism would be around too to some degree. It also doesn't have a generic "Shepherd" (as a group) page at all.
If you want to make a backstory for yourself about your adventures in the Rebellion, feel free. Some of the events might come back to haunt you as the game progresses, tho...

Will need to look back at how much we got. Daisy will buy some clothes, probably grab a few more things to spruce up the passenger cabins we haven't used yet and perhaps, not here, but elsewhere in the future, think about a rifle upgrade.

There's a recruitment for a Savage Worlds RIFTS game...in Atlantis! I'm not the GM.
If you have SWADE RIFTS, you only need one other manual, $10 in PDF form. It has new races and Frameworks, but I'm not really sure you'd even need it if you go with SWADE RIFTS races and Frameworks.

Savage Rifts is BONKERS crazy, overpowered and fun.
Thanks!!!GM_ZenFox42 |
The original recruitment post languished unanswered for like 10 days, until I happened to spot it. Now, 4 players have expressed tentative interest so far, and I made the same heads-up post to all the games I'm in, so hopefully there's more to come.
If you don't have SW RIFTS, that's just $10, and the RIFTS Atlantis book the GM is recommending is also just $10, but I'm not even sure you'd need the second one. I've been trying to pin the GM down to just how essential it is (it does have new races and Frameworks [classes], but the basic RIFTS book has lots of those already). So you're looking at a $10-$20 investment.
RIFTS is like a high-powered Supers campaign, like Daisy said, WAY overpowered compared to most PC's starting out in a "normal" campaign!

Big problem that I found with rifts, was that each source book, was more overpowered than the previous one.
By the end, a character from the main book, could not compete with ones from the last book.
For example, the cyberknight, was completely outclassed by the classes from the coalition wars. (IIRC the books)

Sorry to be absent recently. My wife was hospitalized a few days last week (she's okay and back home now). Between visits to the hospital and finishing my class for the term, I've been distracted from posting.
I'll also let everyone know now that I'm going to be traveling later this week and again toward the beginning of next week. I don't know my access to WIFI although I will have my laptop so I can post if I have time and access. I'll be attending my HS 50th anniversary next weekend.

For the record, my gunbelt and I carry the following.
Desert Eagle.
2 magazines, with 1 in the pistol (3 total)
Shock Rod.
Knife.
Sleeve gun. (Derringer)
2 x throwing knives (1 low signature)

Ok, it seems you're assuming things about the job in your head that you don't put in your post's description of getting hired, like being provided the cameras you need to do the job. I can only go by what you post. Now that I know what you were thinking...
Here is how Arabella described the job:
"I learned that a salvage and rescue operation is about to depart to find a derelict Passenger liner. They need a cargo ship to transport essential supplies, food for any survivors, some small vessels used in the salvage, and a special ship that will create a video record for a documentary on the salvage and rescue mission. The cargo is only about a ton, but we'll be paid a daily fee for taking care of the cargo and operating the camera vessels. ..."
Cargo transport jobs don't generally require us to purchase the equipment. It is provided and we load it on and take it elsewhere. So I assumed that meant we would have the equipment provided and would naturally bring it when we reported to the captain. I assumed they would have instructed us further on what they wanted us to bring when we entered the ship.
That's why I have been confused that the GM is suggesting we don't have camera equipment and other things described as cargo in the initial post.
Sorry if any of that was not clear.
GM_ZenFox42 |
Ah - I saw the "cargo transport" and "making a documentary" as two different kinds of jobs. Of course you're always given the cargo to transport, but figured your employer would assume you'd provide the video equipment since "making a documentary" is providing a service. If you asked a plumber to go somewhere to fix a leaky pipe, you'd figure they'd have their own tools.
But no problems, we're all on the same page now, I think.

Man, I'm pissed - I just found out that new Doctor Who episodes will no longer be "broadcast" over cable, but will know be only exclusively available on Disney+ (unless you live in Britain). Now I'll *have* to sign up for Disney+...
I've been wondering about that. I'm not sure I'm willing to subscribe just for that, but I don't want to wait for the next DVD box set either.
Arabella Stormworth-Darling |
I'm several seasons behind. Was watching them on Hulu (I think) with my daughter when.. uh crap, the Scottish dude was the doctor and the episode about the 'haunted' house kept glitching and we gave up after a few tries. :)
Our cable service has On Demand and I recently noted that all the Doctor Who regular season episodes are available. I think the earlier seasons before the restart might be available on On Demand as well.
Clebsch73 |
We have Verizon Fios. It has On Demand. I just double-checked and the On Demand episodes are not free to me. So I have no way to see any of the new episodes. If you want to go halfsies on a Disney+ subscription, I might be interested if I can come over and watch episodes at your place.
