Thanks for being so patient and hanging in there. I've been thinking (and saying) for years that I lost a great deal of my mental creativity from an accident about 7-8 years ago, but about a month ago I stopped taking a bunch of antihistamines every night in order to sleep, and suddenly, it's back! This whole long storyline with multiple parts just popped into my head.

Those evil antihistamines!
To be honest, not sure if I could choose between my creativity and being able to breathe... :)
I'm sure, and breathing wins, but my allergies and asthma are pretty severe. It's a balancing act for sure. The wake up and caffeinate thing becomes even more important if you're knocking yourself out to get to sleep.
With all the love that I have in my heart Zen, your "other" campaign that wasn't yours but you stepped up to "inherit" clearly takes a LOT of your cycles. I did not take PWGM up on their invitation to re-join that campaign for several reasons, but it does seem like you have it sorted.
Speaking to the question, I am a little bemused by the everyones' non-reactions; both to the "job offer" itself as well as to Brook's "National Coming Out Day" post. While there is a level of indifference that anyone in that universe would probably have to just about anything that didn't involve money or guns, this seems off to me. While I think there was an elevated sense of worldliness that Mal had (calling River a 'reader') I'm not sure that can be ascribed to absolutely everyone in all of the Alliance worlds. Just my thoughts: there's an expectation that one's mother may respond with "I've always known you were gay" but not that everyone in the world will. With all that said, I'm also not sure that anyone seems to have asked, "and what will you do when you find these psychics?"

GM, moving this over here, so we don't bury the gameplay.
That would be workable for damage.
Would you consider Mangum or +P shot as a +1 to damage as well?
Both of these have more powder than the standard load.
Out of curiosity, what else does this site have?

(NOTE : I actually wrote this *9* hours ago, but forgot to post it, so it unintentionally repeats what's been posted recently...)
Couple of clarifications :
I've never had allergies or asthma, I was just using the antihistamines to get me to sleep. I had tried every prescription sleeping pill on the market, and the pattern was the same : they'd work fine for a week or two, then my body would adapt, and they stopped working. Then, when I went off them, for a week or so I got even *less* sleep than before I started taking them! But my body never adapted to simple OOC antihistamines (well, technically it did, but it took *years* instead of weeks).
PWGM's game is "easy", since the Adventure Path handles all of the creativity for me. I've just come up with a way to keep track of the battles in an organized fashion. And I seem to have lost my part-time job, so I've got lots of time on my hands. TBH, I think PWGM's combats took so long because his bad guys used *all* the combat options, whereas I try to stick to the basics. If I had to guess, he'd probably done a lot of IRL GM'ing, where when it's live around a table it's simpler to keep track of all those combat options.
And I think the lack of the PC's response is reflected by the fact that the players know what's going on. "Oh, join the resistance? I know that's where the game is going, so - sure!" (Altho several PC's *did* voice hesitancy.) "Oh, someone walks up and asks to join the group? That's the new player, so - no problem!". Not criticizing any players, that's just the way things go.
And, I think Myra said twice (once after being asked), that once you find the psionics, you're to try to convince them to join with the Unseen Sleepers.

Wren's not sure if you're just yanking her chain, Brook! She's pretty skeptical of supernatural explanations, trusting more to her skills and maybe luck.
I think I'm confusing myself (and perhaps others) with her entrance, speaking with Myra, and then heading to her room. I believe I voiced her opinion of being willing to join the crew in this endeavor if they take it, but she doesn't really feel as though she should count herself in as far as the actual decision goes. She hasn't proved herself yet.
She has no gun (though she knows which end to hold), but if offered a silenced, small automatic she'll take it with thanks. Her knives are silent and efficient for close combat and close range, though. She'll also happily take a vest, if it's not too bulky (i.e. doesn't hinder her from sneaking, climbing, balancing, etc.) Planning on taking that Acrobatics edge sooner or later, so I wouldn't want this to interfere with that.
Brook Longshot |
Functionally these responses equal, "Yep we're just like your mom, and even if we didn't exactly know, we knew it was something." These folks have for SURE seen a lot of 'something'
So wait, is there an outpost, general store, tavern, weapon shop of some kind? Wren & Brook could go shopping ...
Brook Longshot |
Yeah, I know all about how real-life silencers don't act the way they're portrayed in the movies, and it's notable that SWADE Core doesn't even mention them. I'll try to figure out an in-game mechanic that provides some bonus, but not too much. Thanks Harold and Daisy for the input!
Ok, after skimming the web, the best I can come up with is that silencers provide a -1 to an inactive guard's Notice if they're more than 5" away from the gun. Which in TotM, is pretty useless. So if no one has any objections (or better ideas), we'll just skip the silencers...
No objection ... but ... I will say that the development of the ICERs on Agents of SHIELD was some incredible storytelling. It would be interesting for these folks, and themeatically appropriate with the concept of "sleep" to maybe have something similar. If we were coming up with something from the ground up, it could be whatever you wanted. Silent, non-impact, etc etc etc
Just a thought.

Brook - huh...ICERs. Maybe the Unseen Sleepers will develop something like that in the near future...
Only problem I see is that they have to penetrate the skin. I assume they'd just shatter against any armor, so you'd be taking a lot of Called Shots...
But the railgun part could be used to sling conventional slugs with almost any noise (but maybe not as much damage?). They're not realistic today, but we are in a solar system with 5 suns, which isn't realistic either. :)
Harold - I Googled "silencer gun reality movie" (without the double quotes) and read several web sites. Videos don't do the comparisons justice because the unsuppressed guns are louder than the audio equipment can accurately record and playback.
And, since SWADE Core doesn't offer bullets with more powder that do more damage, I'm not inclined to either. Sorry.

I apologize for lack of posts this past week. I've been preoccupied with work and the fact that this is my last week of work. I am now retired. So I should be posting regularly from now on since there are no more days where work takes up a big chunk of time.
I'm looking forward to focusing more. I missed a lot of things in this discussion thread and in the gameplay. I noted Brook's comment about coming out of the closet, but I wasn't sure it was a reference to what we usually mean by that, plus he was new so I hadn't made any assumptions about that. In RL I do not generally speculate on anyone's sexuality. I was raised accept people as they are and avoid applying stereotypes. In this regard, Arabella would be the same only more so, since Taoism is very non-judgmental.
It hasn't come up, but I imagine Arabella would likely be pansexual, open to any kind of pairing as long as she had the right amount of love and respect for the other person. She's old enough now that romantic hook-ups are not a priority, although she's not ruled out such things.
Anyway, I'll get a post up soon to give Arabella's reaction to the new affiliates and gear. If I were not retired, I'd have to be blocking out time to get my next class set up but now I've got all that time for my own activities. It will take some getting used to, but I'm up to the task.
And my reaction to the change in direction for the campaign: I'm glad Zenfox has his creative mojo back, first of all. Looking forward to having something of a story arc.

Since the campaign is entering a new phase, might this not be a good time for an advance? Our last advancement came in August 2023. We have completed two missions since then: the derelict starliner job and the most recent one involving the local job of finding the flower.

Congratulations! I envy you having free time to do what you want and need.
I am somewhere between 5 and 10 years from retirement. It all counts on Social Security, my ability to keep my current insurance at cost for a few years after officially retiring and Medicare.... I figure i'll be lazy for a short while and between in and outside house and yard projects and writing and other crafts and projects, i'll still basically be 'working' full time still, just happier. :)

OMG congrats! I love that this campaign has brought up retirement, because it's big thing. I want to work and work and work, but things have been tough these last few years. I have had the time, and actually feel blessed to have fallen into PbP, but I've lacked the resources to truly feel great about the 'free' time.
Love the super broadened - dare I say 'woke' - discussion of sexuality & attraction also. For the record, I was using "coming out" and National Coming Out Day as a metaphor for Brook opening up about his psychicness, but also probably relevant to note that he's no more experienced with romantic anything than he is with rifles. While absolutely wanting to be close to someone/anyone regardless of gender (pansexual for sure), he will also show himself as demisexual & sapiosexual when the time comes; he's been through a lot for a young guy and doesn't open up to just anyone.
Just some notes on free time: I have found it's valuable NOT to think of it that way. When I slip up, it seems like suddenly the day is gone, I'm hungry for dinner, and I probably haven't walked any further than my desk. For me it has been helpful to think of myself as having "significantly more time to be purposeful with" - I still make to do lists even if I give myself allowences to move items around, and I am as mindful as possible of the indulgences I choose, because if I don't think of them as indulgences, they become bad habits. All that said, take a minute to take stock and congratulate yourself; you earned this.

I'm also of retirement age (just started Medicare this year), and was hoping to continue on-line part-time employment at the same place as Arabella, but they haven't thrown any jobs my way for about 8 months now, so I think that's over. I was hoping to wait until I was 66 years 10 months old to start Social Security because the payout is like $300/month more (for me, anyway), but now I'm re-thinking that.
I spend most of my time on the computer, doing personal research projects. I really like learning new things!

Thanks for the warm words about my retirement. I'm only just beginning to explore how to structure my activities, but I'm in no hurry to decide anything just yet. One day at a time. I did take a few hours yesterday to review a writing project on religion that I started a while back and hope to develop into a book and maybe a YouTube channel to publicize it a bit. The main thing I need to do every day I can is exercise. I don't want my body to atrophy from inactivity.
ZenFox: Sorry to hear the classes have dried up for you. I plan to still do a class now and then as an adjunct, but so far the only thing mentioned is next March.
Arabella Stormworth-Darling |
I may have found that on the Internet. I don't know how official it is, but it gives a good idea of the star systems in the 'verse. From an astrophysics perspective, I suspect the three-body problem would cause instabilities for a system like this, but if the bodies are sufficiently far apart, it might not matter.
