The party troops down the stairs, buffed and ready. As the first rank comes into view of the room, the summoner looks up with an annoyed expression that quickly turns to shock. "More intruders? Ge--oh, no."
Note that the stairs are only 5' wide, so you'll have to come in single file. I assume that your single-file marching order is Blitz-Viridian-Joseph-Lybram-Corbrae-Mrs. Book-Alton-L'il Fella, so that will give those of you who act before the summoner an idea of how far you have to move to reach the fight.

Mrs. Book pulls out a scroll of expeditious retreat and casts it on herself.

DM Carbide |

Round 1 (ongoing):
Mrs. Book uses a scroll, while Corbrae casts a defensive spell.
Joseph?

![]() |

Did we make a decision ahead of time that we were not going to try talking this time? If so Joseph recognizes the voice and reacts.
Joseph will move in and ready to disrupt if she casts.
shot to disrupt casting: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
"We can talk or fight. Your choice."

DM Carbide |

Round 1 (ongoing):
Joseph steps up and holds a shot.
The mephit flees east.
Lybram can act!

![]() |

Lybram moves into the room and casts "Erastil, blast them with sound." Casts sound burst. fort saves dc 16.
sonic damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
"I'm done talking"
Lybram will have his regular armor and weapons equipt until it is time to swim.

DM Carbide |

Round 1 (ongoing):
The summoner is caught off-guard by the spell and is stunned, but his eidolon is made of sterner stuff. It takes a short step forward and attacks the wolf. Blitz takes 23 HP damage.
Viridian, Blitz, and Alton can act!
CCB on Blitz: 3d20 ⇒ (9, 9, 16) = 34
CCB damage: 2d6 + 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4) + (6) + 9 = 23

DM Carbide |

Two comments: first, if you move there the eidolon will get an AoO on you. Second, I think that's a double move from your initial position. A single move would put you behind Viridian and out of line of sight on the summoner. On the other hand, in the first fight the eidolon had a very high AC, so going for automatic damage on it might not be a bad idea.

![]() |

Blitz howls in pain as he is mauled.
The wolf snaps back. Grrrrrr!
bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 for bite: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 (plus trip) trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Viridian, not having the best location will cast a flame on the eidolon.
I do not want to block access, and By the Green poor Blitz is in bad shape.
He summons a flaming sphere onto the Eidolon.
fire: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) = 14 DC16 for half

Round 1 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Corbrae-acted
Joseph-holding
Mrs. Book-acted
Mephit-acted
Lybram-acted
Summoner/Eidolon-acted
Viridian/Blitz-acted
Alton
Blitz bites the eidolon, but its four legs give it the stability it needs to keep from being pulled down. Its agility is impressive, as well--it dodges the flaming sphere.
Alton, just waiting on a clarification re your action.

Round 2:
Corbrae, Joseph, Mrs. Book, and Lybram can act!

![]() |

"Hostilities it is."
Joseph fires two shots at the caster.
ranged attack #1: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 11 - 2 = 13
piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
sneak?: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
ranged attack #2: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 2 = 16
piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
sneak?: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7

DM Carbide |

In a fine example of teamwork, Lybram's spell stuns the summoner just long enough for Joseph to hit him twice in vital spots. He goes down and his eidolon vanishes.
Out of combat!

![]() |

Mrs. Book rushes past the combat just to find out that the belligerent summoner is down for the count. From her previous position on the stairs, she was only able to hear the battle.
"Well done lads! How did you manage to take them out so fast?"

![]() |

hurray!!!
Viridian moves the flaming sphere away from people into a corner until it expires.
” By the Green. That was strong work. Now to patch up Blitz while the summoner is checked?“
Viridian will tap Blitz for 3 wand charges
clw : 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (1, 6, 7) + 3 = 17

DM Carbide |

The summoner is still barely alive. He has a potion, a scroll of aqueous orb, a scroll of invisibility, a magical ring, a vial of antitoxin, and assorted mundane gear, jewelry, and coins (total 321 gp in jewelry and coin).

![]() |

spellcraft to identify potion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
spellcraft to identify ring: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
"That orb scroll is mighty useful, but not for us. At least not now."

DM Carbide |

It's a potion of cure moderate wounds. Mrs. Book is unable to identify the ring, though.

![]() |

Mrs. Book waggles the potion and names it. "Cure Moderate. No idea what the ring is though. I'll try an identify scroll later if we collect a couple of other items to identify. Probably a ring of protection, though."

![]() |

"Let's stabilize this guy, tie him up, and put him in the closet."
"Erastil, stop this life from drifting away " Casts stabilize.
"Get his stuff. It is forfeit by combat."

DM Carbide |

The party secures their captive and prepares to move on.

![]() |

Spellcraft to identify ring, Identify: 1d20 + 5 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 10 = 21
Corbrae casts a spell on the ring to ascertain its magical powers
That fight went quicker and smoother than expected.

![]() |

"l think we head for the grids in the back. Just don't get anywhere near the mud thing." Lybram puts away anything that shouldn't get wet and lines up to head down the stairs. "I will little fella here, but I think I am keeping my equipment this time. I think walking will be earier than swimming.
we can prep for underwater ops in the grate room. Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate such things.

![]() |

” I agree. If at any point we need to traverse Deeper water I will assume a swimming form. However that will limit my ability to assist in other ways. Blitz is willing to help but is better on dry land than water. “

DM Carbide |

Corbrae identifies the ring as a ring of protection +1.

![]() |

"Sure. Why not. Except, which one is the gate room?"

![]() |

Viridian helps Blitz down the ladder (if needed) and then will determine if the east end of the hall is still flooded enough for each to swim.
Here it is Blitz. You did not join us last time, but we were constantly being swept away.

![]() |

"Geronimo!" lybram cannon balls in. Assuming he has cast the waterbreathing from the scroll and can keep his armor on. "I'll cover the West with that team."
Lybram weighted down like a deep sea diver plows his way forward.

DM Carbide |

The current is strong, but Lybram is able to resist it by crouching down a little.
Everyone else, DC 10 Swim checks to keep from being moved down the hall.

![]() |

Remember that the groups are roped together. Either we all go or none of us do!
swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Mrs. Book finds an eddy and has a gentle, controllable ride.

DM Carbide |

Is everyone roped together, or are you roped in two groups? The group with Lybram has an advantage in that he's playing anchor, but in either group every failure makes it a little harder for the rest of the group to succeed.

![]() |

If there is any swimming to be done, Viridian will wildshape again
The druid sees the depth of the water and decides a monitor lizard form will work better.
This is deeper than I was hoping with all the draining. The water source will make navigating difficult...even for Blitz.
He will summon a giant frog via SNA-2 and then once the frog is sent into the room, turn into a monitor lizard himself (takes 2 rounds, frog lasts 4 total rounds). Once he sends the frog in - no real way to communicate back with it, even as a lizard.

DM Carbide |

Could you post the final breakdown as to who's going where?

![]() |

Viridian (lizard) will follow his summoned frog into room 5 from north with blitz trying to paddle behind. Corbrae may be swept away? And others from west?
I think/thought the map was accurate or do you mean once into the room itself?

![]() |

Could you post the final breakdown as to who's going where?
I moved the icons for those that decided. Alton never chimed in. He hasn't posted since Nov 27.

DM Carbide |

Thanks!

DM Carbide |

Is the plan for the west group to exit the hallway a little before the east group, so both groups will reach Room 5 at the same time? If so, I'll need Stealth checks from Joseph, Lybram, and Mrs. Book.

![]() |

stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

![]() |

Lybram plots along ... quietly?
stealth check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
Not so quietly.
