Viridian Torr |
Viridian steps to the south of Ms Book and readies to spear any goblin or other hostile stepping thru
”What is that smell? “
Spear atk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 for dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
.
on phone on train riding home so cannot update map
Tibearius |
Tibearius surges forward into the darkness, glowing mace in hand, declaring, "ONWARDS!!"
Speed 40, accounting for double square cost into the darkness, so one move action towards the location indicated on the map, i.e. 3rd square located into the darkness; Standard action will depend if I see something when I get there
DM Carbide |
Even with a 40' move, I'm not sure Tibearius can get that far--that first diagonal square counts for 15' of movement, so you can only move two more squares forward after that.
Tibearius |
why does the first diagonal count for 15? note that those squares a lit up for the purposes of Tibearius, as he's carrying the light on his mace... ;)
Tibearius |
accounting for double square cost into the darkness
sorry, that statement was wrong, since he's carrying a light
DM Carbide |
When moving diagonally in difficult terrain (and every square of this level is difficult terrain independent of the light level), instead of the first square counting for ten feet and the second for twenty, each one counts for fifteen feet.
Difficult Terrain: Difficult terrain, such as heavy undergrowth, broken ground, or steep stairs, hampers movement. Each square of difficult terrain counts as 2 squares of movement. Each diagonal move into a difficult terrain square counts as 3 squares. You can’t run or charge across difficult terrain.
Tibearius |
@GM: understood- I wasn't aware of the difficult terrain; in that case I'll spend one use of Agile Feet to ignore difficult terrain. Thanks!
Upon arriving at location, Tibearius plants his feet firmly to the side in a defensive stance.
Standard action: total defense; +4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round.
DM Carbide |
You can keep the use of Agile Feet, and possibly reconsider your action.
Tibearius rushes into the room, but before he gets very far he runs into a potential target (see slides for a picture) that doesn't yet seem to be aware of him.
Tibearius |
I'll keep Agile Feet so that I can continue my move around him, seeing that he's unaware; I'll then ready an action to hit him when someone moves into a flank position
readied action to flank: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 2 = 4
bludgeoning: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Joseph 'Cheese Slicer" Hanlon |
Joseph slowly follows Tibearius into the room.
"Hush!"
He then smacks the ... whatever to make it stop.
Heavy Mace for non lethal including flank: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 + 2 = 12
blugoning nonlethal: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Joseph steps in and swings at the creature, but his mace glances off of it. Tibearius also can't hit it, as a bit of rubble shifts under his feet. Mrs. Book begins to cast a lengthy spell. Unfortunately, sleep takes a full round to cast, and now there are party members in the potential area of effect.
What is Joseph using for a light source? He can attack into the region of light around Tibearius, but if he doesn't have a light no one except for Tibearius can see the creature.
Corbrae is up!
Enemy C: AC 13 T 9 FF 13 HP taken: 0
Enemy S: AC ? T ? FF ? HP taken: 0
Mrs. Book |
Mrs. Book will still cast it, but will exclude the PCs even if that means less than optimal positioning. With only a 10' burst area that should not be too difficult.
Joseph 'Cheese Slicer" Hanlon |
Really dislike these lighting conditions. Not so much because of the challenge as because it adds unneeded complexity. Like forcing the PCs to track food or coin weight. Realistically Joseph would be trying to stay near the light source at all times. So he would just follow Tibearius and swing at whatever he swung at. I'll add a miss chance roll next time.
DM Carbide |
I think it works a little better in person, but on the whole it and the difficult terrain feature are really chintzy ways to make players operate at a disadvantage. In PFS we're stuck with them, though.
DM Carbide |
The creature appears to be unaffected by Corbrae's spell. It drops its halberd and tries to punch Joseph with no success.
Round 2 (ongoing):
Further chanting is heard from the darkness. As it concludes, Tibearius feels a frisson of horror. Tibearius, DC 13 Will save or frightened for 3 rounds. If you save, you're shaken for this round.
Everyone can act!
1d4 ⇒ 3
Tibearius |
Will Save DC 13: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Tibearius notes the fear magic trying to insinuate itself into his amygdala and he vigorously shakes his head so that the magic do not take root. He says, "Everyone, there's a magic-user here trying to put fear magic on me; I'm not sure but he may be in the darkness beyond me."
I'm guessing enemies can see us but we can't see them yes?
DM Carbide |
If the enemies have darkvision, yes. (Goblins do have darkvision, in case it wasn't obvious.)
Tibearius |
Tibearius tries to bonk the head of the weird-looking armored being in front of him.
mace, flank: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 1 + 2 = 16
bludgeoning: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
wasn't sure if darkvision saw through this type of darkness or not
Viridian Torr |
Viridian calls out
”I did not see any movement to the east but sounds like you found something up there. On my way. “
He will move as far as he can with dark/difficult
updated map for single move but cannot get past dark/fog layer. Would enter room but can’t see if blocked etc.
Mrs. Book |
Mrs. Book completes her spell and move into the room.

As Mrs. Book completes her spell, there's a thud from inside the darkened area as of a small body hitting the floor, followed by loud snoring.
Corbrae is up, plus Viridian can finish his move.

Not very ggod with images on maps, but I managed to put 4 little "yellow suns" were my Dancing Lights should be (10 feet radius). Inspire Courage for +1 to Hit and damage
Know arcana: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Corbrae peers through the opened door, but there is too much movement and she can't see clearly against what her comrades fight.
Nevertheless, she adds her voice as her only valuable weapon in the fight, singing the praises of ancient warriors to inspire great deeds of valor in her companions
DM Carbide |
The four dancing lights serve to illuminate virtually the entire room, including the sleeping goblin in the corner. As Viridian moves into the room past the remaining enemy, it lashes out at him with a metallic fist, connecting for 8 HP. However, this selfless act allows Mrs. Book to follow without encountering a similar blow.
Viridian, you can take a shot at Clanky.

Viridian Torr |
Viridian grunts in pain as the automated creature slams him

Corbrae tries to shoot the armored foe , but her bolt is badly aimed and fortunatlely doesn't injure anyone else

Tibearius moves to the side to flank the weird-looking armored being in front of him.

bludgeoning, ic: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
Mrs. Book |
With Joseph provoking that frees Mrs. Book to hightail it out of there and she moves to the corner of the room.
DM Carbide |
Joseph drops his mace, steps back, draws his bow, and shoots. The creature is taken unawares by this tactic, and its slam comes too late to connect with the agile half-elf. The arrow hits, though, and does more damage to it. Tibearius can't get through its armor, and Corbrae can't manage to hit it. It turns ponderously and punches Tibearius for 6 HP.
