Corbrae can dance if she wants to, and the way she swims she'll leave most of you behind.
Men without hats reference. Nice.

DM Carbide |

OK. And Viridian isn't casting anything like magic fang on himself?

![]() |

Li'le Fella or mr furry or probably even hey you can all work for Lybrams bear friend. He is not a swimmer and would be very hard to control underwater. Kind of a waste. So leaving him watching my equipment in the alcove.
"Thanks for the help. I really think I will get the hang of this swimming stuff yet."

Is it possible for Lybram to cast "bless" right before the group get set to enter the mud room? +1 morale bonus on atk rolls and on saves against fear. 50ft burst from Lybram, Lasts 4 minutes.
"Let me help you all" "Erastil, guide our hands to remove this beast, give us strength to overcome." casting bless

DM Carbide |

The water directly in front of the door is largely calm, as the main flows seem to come through the gratings from the room above.
Please arrange yourselves in front of the door.

Mrs. Book waits in the offshoot 15' from the door.

![]() |

Viridizard swims against the current, ready to attack if anything is at the door.
Unfortunately, in this form, he probably cannot open doors - unless to push them...

DM Carbide |

Correct--in Viridian's lizard form he's unable to open the door. However, Corbrae and Alton have yet to place themselves on the map, so I'll assume that Corbrae hangs onto Viridian and does so.
As soon as Corbrae turns the latch the door is shoved open by a massive wave of muddy water. It appears that the grate in the door doesn't allow enough water through for the water levels in the mudlord room to equilibrate with the water in the hall, so there's a considerable pressure head built up.
Everyone in the hall except Lybram, Joseph, and Mrs. Book, DC 15 Swim checks to avoid being pulled 40 feet east. Lybram and Joseph, DC 10 STR checks to stay put, and if you fail those DC 15 Swim checks or be moved 40 feet east (then south, following the corridor). Mrs. Book, DC 5 STR check to stay put, and if you fail that DC 15 Swim check, you can guess the rest.

Mrs. Book is caught flat-footed and is almost swept away as her grip on the wall is broken. Fortunately the eddy caused by the corner, at least temporarily, just spins her around.

does it look like the room will drain out enough that we could stand instead of swim or is the water continuing to rush out of the door…contemplating reverting back to human but not if swimming is needed

DM Carbide |

It's hard to tell, because the water in the room (and in the hall closest to the door) is muddy and nearly opaque.

DM Carbide |

Virlizard reaches clear water and can see Alton frantically (and fruitlessly) windmilling his arms as he's carried off. It takes him the rest of the round to catch up.
The water continues to flood out of the room.
Lybram and Joseph, DC 10 STR checks again to hold on; anyone out in the water besides Viridian and Alton, DC 15 Swim check or carried 40' down the hall.

dc 15 swim check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
One more twirl and off Mrs. Book goes, unable to find a wall to cling to.
From her new vantage point, does it look like there might be somewhere above water level she could cling to with spider-climb?

DM Carbide |

Mrs. Book--no. Even with the drainage through the corridor, there's no airspace by the ceiling. However, Viridian should be able to catch up with you this turn.
Joseph is pulled out into the current, but manages to let it carry him just far enough that he can break free of it, reach the ladder, and hang on.
Lybram, Corbrae, and Viridian?

Lybram finding a good place to hold does so for dear life.

Lybram looks at the water as it rushes by. Does the flow seem to be slowing? Does the water seem to be decreasing in its cloudliness? Is there any air pocket/gap at the top that seems to be getting larger?
Lybram braces, but prepares to stab the mud thing should he realize it is going by.
perception to see mud man: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
We are not in initiative so I won't ready the attack. But let me know if there is any way Lybram could slow the thing if he saw it. He does have summon monster 1 and could get a dolphin to block the passage.

DM Carbide |

The flow seems to be slowing gradually. There's still no airspace near the ceiling, and the turbidity of the water hasn't changed. Lybram doesn't notice the mudlord. Yet.

DM Carbide |

With the halfling clinging to him for dear life, Viridian catches up to Mrs. Book.

With the flow of water not abating, Viridian will see if swimming around the north corner instead of the bigger (mud) room. He will continue to pull people that are floating away.
Unfortunately cannot communicate to discuss change of directions...

DM Carbide |

Fortunately, this isn't taking a lot of time, so the water breathing spell will last for quite a while longer.

![]() |

Lybram exclaims, "This is turning into a dangerous situation."
He will continue to search the water for signs of mud elemental man.

DM Carbide |

The mudlord does not appear to be leaving the room. (Recall that when Alton made his Knowledge (Planes) check, he remembered that they're extremely territorial.)
Viridian has to go around the corner to catch up with Mrs. Book, who grabs onto him as he goes by. The trio can see quite some distance west--a long corridor with several doors.

![]() |

Seeing just the wall of muddy water, Lybram will call roll on his party. "Anyone still there? Sound off if you are still with me."
Assuming Corbrae and Joseph sing out there names only, Lybram will say. "Perhaps we should fell back and regroup. This may not be the wisest way of approach. Let's give it a minute and if we are not whole by then, let's look for the others. We can rope together to stay together."
I don't think we will ever be able to swim into the mud room this way and fight effectively. Maybe we should explore the south hall. But Lybram does not know this only that they can't get into the mud room and the mudman won't come out. I'm ready to try something else.

![]() |

Mrs. Book holds on tightly to Viridian.
"The flow has eased off a bit, but I agree. We can deal with the mud fellow later. Maybe we can turn the portals off somehow and I'm thinking the guy responsible is down this way."
Everything sounds strange underwater, even more so since we are breathing water.

Lybram will abandon his hold and swim after Corbrae hoping see knows the way to the rest of the group.
swim check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

DM Carbide |

Lybram and Corbrae are able to move with the current and mostly catch up with the rest of the party.
Joseph, the ladder is only in one square--you can only move up or down in that square. If you want to follow the party you'll have to swim.

Once we all get grouped up, Lybram will suggest, "Let's try this door leading South. Best to know what is in it then have something sneak up behind us."
Lybram will volunteer to open the door when the group is ready.
