Well, even though Strek is speccing towards Powered Armor, and currently wearing Heavy Armor, that D-Suit is so good that he could upgrade. It nets him +1 EAC, ACP 0 instead of –2, and Speed –0 instead of –10. He only had one Armor Upgrade anyways.
Unless Guess? and Del want them. Wasn't Guess? not wearing any Armor?
If Strek takes one, add 161 credits to the party loot, cuz the Armor he's currently wearing was also looted.

Yep, Guess? will go for one of the d-suits!

Guess?'s total comes out to 4272 credits apiece, since the Ranch. I've been keeping track on Slide 3, it comes out to 4672 credits since the book started. So... somewhere around there.
EDIT: And by CRB standards, you should get a total of 10k credits each in this book... I've been upping the credits proportionally, for your group size, and you missed a few bundles of creds but you're still quite a bit behind. This book tends to reward more with BP than with creds, which is interesting since you can't really convert them. I'll have to investigate to see if the credit deficit is intentional or not.
Where does the +27 on the slides come from? Everything else checks out for me so far.

That's from the armor Strek was wearing. 161 ÷ 6 = 26.8333333333

I would just assume strek keeps the proceeds when selling his own armor (even if he'd taken it from party loot, just to keep things simple).

Yep, I'd be good with that. Keep things simpler and not a big deal in the larger scheme of things.

Oh. Okie dokie. Then let's do that going forward?

But the thoughtfulness is definitely appreciated!!!

Hello! Sorry for the delay. Back and trying to get up to speed!

@Ewok: In character, I don't think we're really biting for the seeming trap. Seeing as this is the second "go rescue someone from a dungeon jail" in as many pages, I'm wondering if we should just roll with it because its a major plot hook for the resolution of the book. Is that the case?

![]() |

Welcome back, Del!
---
Yeah... the further I get into this AP, the more I wonder why it was described as a Neutral-Neutral AP. It's definitely written like it will be played by a Chaotic-Good group most of the time. But that's ok! The AP is more fun this way, and thankfully it's written to be very flexible.
So... nope, you definitely don't need to be railroaded into visiting the jail. We can absolutely move the book forward without doing that. But, as with many things in the AP... all decisions have consequences. :)

Akh Xi |

Well I know we don't *have* to, but I also don't want to miss out on the fun adventuring stuff that Paizo has put together!

Guess? |

Yah, I get the feeling we're supposed to go to the jail but at present IC-ly, it seems there is no motivation for the party to go on a rescue mission, unless we are good aligned. Now if there were some kind of major payoff for going there, then that'd be an easy decision. Breaking into EJ to steal a starship is a crazy thing to do, but the payoff was enough riches to retire 20 times over.
What's the payoff for going up against a powerful, secret veskarium shadow government faction? A 20BP buyer for our star minerals, several goblins who don't have any money, and a veskarium government officer who ignored us when we warned him? Guess? would need a much bigger payoff to be convinced the risk is worth the reward.
As a player though, I agree with Akh, I'm curious to see where this rabbit hole goes.

Yeah, the authors didn’t really want the end of book 1 and 2’s traps to be surprises. Which is interesting, but I think it’s all a part of the broader theme that choices matter and life isn’t fair. Lol at least the railroads in this AP are softer than others.
It’s funny, the characters are both overestimating the trap and underestimating the payoff at this point. Which is super reasonable, given how the fates have played out for them so far.
FYI: I’m quite busy at work this week, so I’ll be posting less frequently and from mobile at times.

Thankfully, the scenario appreciates the difficulty of wrangling an unknown creature. For this situation, nonlethal counts as not harming the creature. So you could whomp it into unconsciousness with nonlethal weapons, keep it unconscious for the journey home, and get paid without any complaints from the buyer.
Alternatively, you could use lethal damage then stabilize and completely heal it prior to returning it to its owner. This situation would require a few heal checks on top of the magical healing to heal any superficial damage/scarring that was caused.
There are other more creative methods you could use, but those will be hard to plan until you know what the creature is and how it is currently situated.
You have plenty of opportunities to purchase new equipment or weapons before you leave the veskarium!

Akh Xi |

Got it.
I was really surprised last night that I couldn't find any technomagical cages, collars for making creatures docile, sedatives that don't rely on nonlethal damage, or other equipment options that'd do the trick. Seems like something that should exist in game by this point!

Busy week for me, too. Birthday's on Friday so I'm busy doing work ahead of time so I can have fun.
Strek would be more inclined to rescue the lot if the day spa was an actual, tortuous prison, but as far as we keep discovering, it's
1) nothing that will scar them,
2) it's obviously a trap,
3) there's a clear public record of them,
4) they shouldn't be expecting us to rescue them anyways, and
5) there's no real reward to rescue them
So he's in favor of capturing the beastie, but reserves the right to object if the creature is sapient.
Dump the rocks in a storage shed somewhere? Ooo! Or how about a random asteroid. Then we can draw a map a put an X on it ^_^

I'll be travelling for a couple days so may be absent. Please bot me as needed. Thank you!

Lol, I was confused, too, because you used the OOC code for it =P

Ah, okay that makes sense (and yes, funny :) ). The OOC threw me off too.

In part due to the difficulty of this encounter, and in part due to some rough rolls... you may want to consider a tactical retreat. Then again, the latest bit of info from Melissa could help you get through this.

It's funny, there was only one more mission remaining before the last call for the Adamant Scale subplot. The author did a great job of upping the stakes while leaving it open for a group to ignore the call to heroism. (Which is still funny since they decided to name the first book We're No Heroes. I'm really thinking that was sarcastic at this point... My B)

We're not looking to overthrow the miraxah republic government( not till we're like, level 12 anyway...) , we'd just like them to stop imprisoning their own and other citizens at the vesks request
Or at least get a floating party boat protest going on out there. A crowd sourced dun kirk from citizens they'll get in trouble for shooting is a lot harder to stop than 6 box haulers they were planning for...

Guess? |

Several ideas floated by the crew are:
-Visit the prison
-Start a world-wide rebellion on Marixah against the Marixah Republic
-Lure the Scale to you
-Meme the Adamant Scale out of existence
OH! I misunderstood and thought the prison was in Veskarium space. But it is actually in Marixah space.
Perhaps we can do all of the above?
We start rebellions by stirring up discontent. We use the memes liberally while doing so. As we stir up trouble, we disguise ourselves as people that have already been arrested:
And we disguise ourselves as others we don't necessarily like either:
Surely our characters disguised as the above and broadcasted in the media during protest rallies and/or riots will draw the Adamant Scale's attention, causing them to come seek us out. In the case of Lord Sinjin and Deminda, we're just trying to deflect some attention to them. And when they come seek us out, we ambush them and use evidence of assassins to add fuel to the rebel fire.
Come to think of it, we should splash EJ logos everywhere during our protest/riots, claiming they're sponsoring these uprisings. Might as well try to turn the Adamant Scale, Sinjin and EJ all against each other. If our enemies are targeting each other, then they're less likely to target us.
Then once things are really chaotic and out of control, we lead a group of freedom fighters to storm the prison!
Sooooo... I get the feeling that the above is a completely different AP. hehehe
Any thoughts? I'm chuckling thinking how Guess? would pitch the above to the rest of the crew...

- We should probably find a more libertarian member of government to a) get them on our side b) warn them that their might be a bioweapons attack since these guys are looking for a test audience anyway.
- have guess guess and guess be eyewitness (es) to the abductions. he can be himself for the goblins, a skittermander secretary for fireheart, a human for the berry guy etc.
-See if the planet has any whales that might give us a lift. There's anti aircraft guns, not sure if they're prepared for a submarine. Also is still miffed gaskar III didn't have freedom dolphins so she's getting them here dammit!
Not sure about bringing EJ or Team Drow knife murder into this. With our luck they'll team up.

Jaraduk Cometrunner |

Hmm, so that would seem to suggest that there's a limit to the influence the disguises might have?
I mean, they would have to be damn good disguises, or just alter self spell gems.

I'd advise you think simple, to avoid derailing the AP to much. Alternatively, I'll keep it high level and utilize skill checks to resolve things.
@Ewok: Our potential adversaries here have been shown to be way way more capable than us, with the power of manipulating the lawful systems of the Veskarium and doing things all over the Pact Worlds. Given that our attempts to research them have turned up very little and our best lead on info to help us plan how to approach them has up and disappeared, we're working quite blind. I think the ideas recently are mostly just throwing anything at the wall to see if we can get any info or advantage since we've got nothing to work with and intentionally springing the trap seems like a bad idea in character, since we've got no reason to believe it wouldn't be.
Basically, you've got to give us something! Crumbs of info? Please! At least so we can plan things within the bounds of what the AP covers :D
@RestofTheParty: Barring that, do we just do some disguises and start casing the prison for Adamantine Scale collaborators to interrogate before we head for the island containing our acquaintance? Maybe give the ultra valuable stolen starship a new paint-job first before we land it there? Maybe hot-glue on some more bits and pieces to disguise its shape?
I definitely wouldn't try to bring EJ or Team Sinjin into this - that seems to just be asking for trouble.

Guess? |

I think the most straightforward path is to throw on some disguises and go visit our 'friends' in the prison. See what they have to say, gather info about the prison, then see if we 1) take action right away during the 'visit' or 2) depart so that we concoct a follow up breakout plan based upon gathered intelligence.
I figure this because it seems all roads lead to the prison. That's where our contacts are being held and the prison brochure makes it sound very easy and risk free to go visit.
Of course our characters are rightfully suspicious of this so they'd probably want to do something to reduce the risk or otherwise cover their bee-hinds.
Speaking of which, this gives me another idea if we want to go for a more straightforward approach. If our characters go straight to the prison, they can hire a troupe of actors who resemble our characters to pull a Thomas Crown Affair-ish. The actors go visit a bunch of other prisoners and act as a distraction while our party does their thing.

Fair... it's tough, the book assumes that either the characters will be foolish enough to fall for the trap, heroic/foolhardy enough to run into it headlong, or choose to completely ignore it. There aren't a lot of alternatives given to those three options.
Seeing how your group has aced all of the "gee, this is suspicious" checks, you have a good feeling of the danger you're up against. And you've picked up on how powerful the Adamant Scale is. The book does try to point out how they're not going to leave you alone unless you confront or defeat them somehow, which is how we've gotten to this situation.
So we're in a pickle. On the one hand, you don't have enough information to do much other than run straight into danger - which is not in the crew's nature. On the other hand, you know that this shadowy possibly-legal intelligence agency is desperate to get it's hands on you - a fact that is bad for business. I've all of the info the book has for you in my last post and the one I just made. Unfortunately... your characters are in the dark with only three real options:
1. Jailbreak at Tranquility, knowing the Scale are going to pop up somewhere
2. Lure Adamant Scale somewhere else in an attempt to get them off your back
3. Post on an infosphere billboard "Dear Adamant Scale, leave us alone and we'll leave you alone" and move on to Book 3
As is the theme of the AP, your actions have long-term effects and all three choices will slightly alter a few things in the upcoming books. There are creative ways to approach each of the three paths which would make them easier or harder.

I mean, a regular party of heroes, or vesk, would just charge in take on all comers. It doesn't matter that they're the military, out numbering out manning out gunning and training we're going to be the heroes anyway. Charrrrrge!!!!
A group of superspies would sneak in ocean 11s style. Definitely closer. The whole group didn't minor in theatre.
But like the tagline says we're not heroes. If we try that we have every reason to expect to be deader than diamaran disco.*
They have the military, the government, the laws, the prison. What do we have? Its not overwhelming force of arms.
The thing with common blue collar workers and every day citizens is that they are everywhere. IE, there are a LOT of them. For sneaking into a normal facility we could be the every man. Blend in. No ones going to notice Ysoki mechanic #374 out of 540 going to "fix" something or bother a janitor with a plunger moving somewhere in a hurry.
But this place is automated.
We also have a ship. But everyone has a ship.
So that leaves us with the other aspect of commoners... there's a LOT of us. The vesk empire has been bossing around the Miraxahs for years and holding people here, probably sans trial. Some people at least are going to be bothered by that.
They can oppress anyone they want. But they can only oppress everyone if we let them.
