Heavy laser cannons in both slots would be a relatively cheap and efficient investment. Quite a big up in dmg and no range problems. I'm not a huge fan of short range weps and the rippers are a bit dicey if we're always going up against enemy ships rather than space monsters.
Also MK3 defenses = good enough, then buy as much shields as our PCU will allow, since they're so cheap (2 BP getting us a PCU upgrade means we should be able to get more than 120 shields). 11 BP and 25 PCU gets us 240 shields which should give us plenty of plush comfort.

Sadly, we can only add 1 Heavy Weapon to the Forward.
Mounts forward arc (1 heavy, 1 light), aft arc (1 light), turret (2 light)
I remember there being a way to add weapon mounts, but I also remember it being extremely expensive. If someone else can find the rules for it, I'm not having luck at the moment.

New Weapon Mounts
Thanks!
I guess it's not so expensive when we have 40 points to play with. So,
5 BP, 0 PCU: Upgrade Forward 3d6 Light Particle Cannon to a 4d8 Heavy Laser Cannon
6 BP, 0 PCU: Upgrade Turret Light Weapon Mount to a Heavy Weapon Mount
5 BP, 0 PCU: Upgrade Turret 3d6 Light Particle Cannon to a 4d8 Heavy Laser Cannon
(+6 BP if we want to move that Forward Heavy Laser Cannon to the Turret)
8 BP, 2 PCU: Upgrade Mk1 Armor and Mk1 Defenses to Mk3.
2 BP: Upgrade 150 PCU Pulse Green to a 175 PCUPulse Red.
5 BP, 5 PCU: Upgrade Shields 80 to Shields 120.
This all just costs 31 BP (37 if we move Forward weapon to Turret).
Any other suggestions?
Upgrading from Common Quarters to Good is 2 BP, and Luxurious is 5 ^_^

BigNorseWolf |

More cargo space if that's a thing.
Melissa is fine with the dog bed in the air vent as far as quartes go. But understands if the larger party member got big butts and they cannot lie down need more space
We're leving the ship are we leveling the characters? or just the ship wont come up again till its leveled

Strek Armstrom |

Yeah as far as I understand it the ship Tier need not match our Level. Usually in APs it does. But right now we're 4th, and the ship's 3rd. Upgrading it to 5th means our Skill DCs will be a bit higher, but who knows when our next combat will be. We might be 5th or 6th by then.
Cargo Expansion Bays are 0 BP. They're the baseline. Our frame only has 5 Expansion Bays, though. Right now the Null-Space chamber takes up 2 of them, the Tech Workshop takes up another, the Holographic Recreational Suite takes up another, and our last one is a basic Cargo Hold (which we originally had like a Magical Workshop or something there).

Strek, you're a champ for pulling all of this together. It's fun that this AP gives so much flexibility for the ship, and that you're taking advantage of it! Strek is correct, nothing is free in this AP so you have to pay for the upgrade yourselves. But that means you can do whatever you want, including going to a Tier 5.
This is the first time in two books where the group has missed out on a major BP payday, and the books assume you'll miss some. So you're currently up on BP from where they expect, I think.

Guess? |

A few things that Guess? would like:
smuggler compartment - this is the only practical item on his wishlist
luxurious quarters
launch tubes in which is berthed a captain's yacht
pheremone system because mind-altering substances in the air
starship spines because they look cool gobbammit!
Yes! Strek, I'm so happy you're up to speed on starship construction because I'm so not!
Listed above are the additional items that Guess? would like to add on if there is enough budget and if others agree. (Although it appears Melissa would object to the pheremone system because, well, goblin-initiated airborne drugs!)
Adding one more item to the above list:

Strek Armstrom |

smuggler compartment - this is the only practical item on his wishlist
Sure enough, there's 4 Eoxian Body Part vouchers with your names on them.
Let's use these 4 Points for Guess?'s Smuggler Compartment: 2 for the Base Model, +2 to increase the Perception/Computers DCs by 10 (so DC 30 to detect). I think this increases our total smuggling capacity by 10 tons? Wouldn't make much sense to replace one of our regular 25 ton cargo holds with a secretive 10 ton cargo hold.
So...
4 BP, 6 PCU: Smuggler Compartment (enhanced)
5 BP, 0 PCU: Forward 3d6 Light Particle Cannon => 4d8 Heavy Laser Cannon
6 BP, 0 PCU: Turret Light Weapon Mount => Heavy Weapon Mount
5 BP, 0 PCU: Turret 3d6 Light Particle Cannon => 4d8 Heavy Laser Cannon
8 BP, 2 PCU: Mk1 Armor/Mk1 Defenses => to Mk3 Armor/Mk3 Defenses
5 BP, 5 PCU: Shields 80 => Shields 120
5 BP: Common Crew Quarters => Luxurious Crew Quarters
2 BP: 150 PCU Pulse Green Power Core => 175 PCU Pulse Red
= 40 BP, 13 PCU
HERE is what that would look like. Sound good?

Strek Armstrom |

Next time we upgrade the ship we might want to consider upping the Computers, so we can start handing out bonuses to hit.

Akh Xi |

Smugglers compartment definitely takes up an expansion bay. It's listed under that category.

Strek Armstrom |

Oh shoot.
We do have an expansion bay available. But that would drop our total capacity down from 125 tons to 110 tons.
What do y'all think?

Guess? |

Oh I misunderstood our current total capacity. I suppose in this case, best we keep 125 tons of capacity. We probably wouldn't want to reduce. Too bad though... It totally would've been theme appropriate, at least with Guess?.

Guess? |

Browsing through the starship equipment, a few things added to Guess?'s wishlist, not that I'd expect we'll purchase any or most of these:
Also, only the top three are actually SFS legal!

Strek Armstrom |

Well the Smuggler Compartment we just realized lowers our capacity. Still doesn't seem right to me in concept, because even the description says we utilize space behind bulkheads and whatnot.
But Luxurious Quarters, we got those babeeee!!
Just gotta figure out what else to spend 4 points on. I'll get to it today and post an updated build to the Slides.

Guess? |

The lux quarters are awesome!
It now feels as though 5 expansion bays just aren't enough though and this lil goblin is dreaming of a dreadnought frame cargo hauler! With spines! In a nice shade of goblin green!

All of these look fine except for the Cloaking and Reconfiguration systems. Both would be a touch overpowered in this AP and are listed as quite rare in universe.
Also... "PCs can’t upgrade the base frame of their starships." :( Most AP's you'd just dump your ship into the magical recycle bin in the sky and out would pop a different ship with a bigger frame. But in this AP... you're pretty tied to the Oliphaunt. So I think you're stuck with the same frame.

I have driven a forklift. Once.
We had to lift something up while the garage was at lunch (they re skilled labor. they get a lunch)
I was told it was raining out, take the one with the roof.
I go to get the one with a roof. it is half an inch away from a car with a fresh coat of paint on it. My best friend in the garage is someone that does the paint...
So I grab the other forklift, start taking it down the hill.
State job, no hurry, hit the brakes....
there are no. breaks.
There is however a nice gas station at the bottom of the hill which would be happy to arrest my ride. So I turn the thing as little a possible. it still goes up on two wheels. gets to a stop, and then crashes back down.
"BAHAHAH.. your face is PURPLE. Your life just flashed in front of your eyes didn't it?"

Assuming each of the 6 possible successes count equally toward succeeding the skill challenge perhaps these people take on these challenges?
-re-label goods Easy Computers or Medium Medicine check - Melissa computer?
-cover the goods Easy Strength or Medium Engineering check - Jaraduk Strength? Maybe w/ an Akh assist?
-medical license forgery Hard Computers check
-impersonation Medium Disguise + Medium Bluff check (one person must pass both, this is an exception to the one roll rule.) - Guess?
-transponder modification Hard Computers or Engineering check - Strek engineering, unless Jaraduk / Akh fails the 'cover the goods' check?
-flying under the radar Hard Piloting check - Del
As for Akh, if not assisting a STR check, maybe come up with a new idea that utilize's Akh's Culture skills?

Sorry. Completely underestimated my work load on top of prepping 4 Scenarios for a Labor Day weekend convention. I see 24 unread posts in Gameplay. I should be able to get through all of them during an extended lunch tomorrow.
And then Friday thru Monday is PacifiCon. Hopefully after that I'll be back in the swing of things.

luxurious quarters(obtained!)
smuggler compartment(not viable)
cloaking(not for this AP)
reconfiguration system(not for this AP)launch tubes + captain's yacht
pheremone system
starship spines
biocamouflage
holographic mantle
Since we're not getting the smuggling compartment, and nothing on Guess?'s wishlist is cheap, I'll just put those 4 Points towards a Mk 1 Tetranode Computer.
If we dedicate one +1 to Initiative and another +1 to Del's Piloting check, that'll effectively erase the ship's default −1 Piloting modifier.
And then the third and fourth +1s can go to each of the Gunners.
EDIT: I just went ahead and uploaded the Tier 5 to Slides, in case we have a combat coming up. On my profile I'll post every iteration as we continue to level it up ^_^

Thanks for the bot. I'm pushing hard to wrap up a project and will be pretty non responsive on here this week. Bot me as needed, please!

GM Ewok wrote:Does anyone want to do any shopping in the market before heading back to the ship? The last time I updated my personal inventory was adding 1500cr, I think from the ranching job.
Figuring out the ship's BP was easy, but I don't know where we're at for credits. Anyone know?
Here's the accounting of Guess?'s earnings since the ranching job:

Strek Armstrom |

Alright, cool, thanks. That's more than enough for those leg augmentations. +10 Speed offsets my heavy armor proficiency ^_^

![]() |

Guess?'s total comes out to 4272 credits apiece, since the Ranch. I've been keeping track on Slide 3, it comes out to 4672 credits since the book started. So... somewhere around there.
EDIT: And by CRB standards, you should get a total of 10k credits each in this book... I've been upping the credits proportionally, for your group size, and you missed a few bundles of creds but you're still quite a bit behind. This book tends to reward more with BP than with creds, which is interesting since you can't really convert them. I'll have to investigate to see if the credit deficit is intentional or not.

In any other AP this happens (and it happens in most of them) I'd say they messed up but for this one it fits so so much...
During an interview with the author (I think by john godek?) I had my question asked for how to make it feel like space truckers at higher level when your characters had the GDP of a small moon...

Jaraduk Cometrunner |

Here's the accounting of Guess?'s earnings since the ranching job:
Defrex run: 1322
Scarlon Murderbat Bonus and Rotten Fish Delivery Front Payment: 950
Complete Rotten Fish Delivery Job: 750
Prepayment. Bounty from Eshovayo to capture Agavana: 1250
Ah good. That checks out with the number I'd recorded as well.

As pointed out with the drift crisis I think, this is a downside to fast easy reliable drift travel. It's sort of like trying to keep a high level teleporting wizard focused on one place when there's a whole planet/universe of places calling "OOO SHINY" to be used in the toolbox

When tomorrow comes...

It seemed like a win win situation. Either melissa gets to LARP some grand theft auto, or she beats guess into volunteering to being the one needed alive...

Haha! Well, to stay alive, Guess? would probably just run away and hide - not move in CLOSER to the kidnapper/murderers.
But hey, perhaps that's just goblin logic vs ysoki logic....
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BigNorseWolf |

Melissas planning from here varies a lot on whether she's hopped herself into the passenger or Drivers seat (like she was hoping). On a standard car that would be the drivers seat, but I don't know if they drive on the wrong side of the road in absolom or this car just has the wheel on the other side or maybe it can move back and forth like in demolition man...

I can't imagine the Grey was the one driving. But if they were, it's probably telepathically controlled, like the fast food menus in that one Lashunta enclave.

Akh Xi |

Obviously its remotely controlled by Sinjin himself. ;)

![]() |

It's definitely telepathically controlled... no way it was the GM not paying attention to where I stuck the driver...
And here i was just telling Akh the universe ISN"T deliberately out to ruin our clever planning!!!!! :)
