We could total up the entire cost of everyone's defrex herding gear and divide it up eavenly amongst everyone. So if Guess? is successful at getting a free mount, we can evenly distribute the savings / costs amongst all 6 party members. I'm totally okay with that. We can actually even deduct it from the coffer loot slide payout amount so no need to actually deduct the credits we have on hand in our character sheets.
Sound good? Seems to me like this encounter is a group thing so the total cost can just be divided evenly across the entire group.

Yeah, I'm fine with that.

Y'know, considering we were looking like we were in pretty good shape to deliver this cargo, I was wondering how the adventure path was going to not let us get away with earning all those build points. Now that the shoe has dropped, I see we'll be spending all our earnings on repairing the ship!
When I first read through the AP, I thought the defrex herding wasn't as challenging as it should have been. Then I got to this part. :)

Ooof, I missed posting last night, and things really fell apart for the party :O

Guess? |

Yah, when I read GM Ewok's post, my literally dropped and the thoughts "holy s&%@, stampede on our airborne ship?!?" flashed through my head.
And then I was thinking this incident totally contributes to that Firefly feeling where they just couldn't catch a break each episode. But they stick together and JUST manage to scrape by, not really able to better their overall situation much.
But hey, the fun came from their journey, not so much the destination! And this AP is certainly a journey!!
I want to see more of cowboy Jaraduk! And I'm feeling bad for Del right about now....

Jaraduk Cometrunner |

Jaraduk is enjoying his cowboy alter ego.

I suppose a joke about defrex-based grenades was just sitting there. Oh well.

Yeah, I suppose thats why the ship heads back into space to zoom around the planet instead of going through the atmosphere. At least when your systems go down you're slowly floating downwards rather than plummeting. This is definitely the most Firefly of the AP books. It has some very loose storylines traveling through the second book but is mostly to reinforce the space trucker Firefly feel.
I want an alternate universe where Jaraduk retires to be a Vesk Defrex Rancher.

For anyone who is interested, I'm planning on starting a Devastation Ark PbP in the next week or two. I have 2-3 players lined up already and would like to get up to 4-5 total. This is a 13-20 AP and it continues the story beats established in Dead Suns (though playing Dead Suns is definitely not needed to jump into it).
If you're interested or have any questions, give me a PM!

Guess? |

Thanks for the offer Cellion. However, I'm personally at capacity now. Have a good time!!
Oh and I'm good with Melissa's plan to stick with the same groups to handle the current ship disaster!!

Man I would love to play something high tier like that, and I have a Dead Suns melee Soldier who I'd love to play again, but I barely have time for the PbPs I'm in now, so I shouldn't try to stretch myself =(
Stretch yourself? Pun intended? Hehehe
And thanks again for reaching out, Cellion. I also really wish I had the bandwidth for it!

When reading this encounter, I didn't realize just how much unavoidable damage there is! Melissa could have easily been knocked unconscious when you entered the hold, which would have made these last skill checks real tough. The author definitely wanted you to feel the pressure of being trapped in a dying ship!!
Reminder on the compensation system for this job:
-1 BP for every 10 defrex
-5 BP bonus for 60+ defrex
-3 BP bonus for 90+ defrex

Y'know... For all that time I spent insuring Guess? had superior intoxicant in his inventory, I neglected to buy healing serums....
Announcer Voice
Don't let this happen to you. Buy Cayden Cailean brand healing serums and drink till you feel better, one way or another.

I'll be heading on a trip out of town for about a week and a half. So my posting will be reduced or non-existent from Apr 13 to about 23. During that time, please go ahead and bot me as needed!

Okay, what should we make him say while he's gone? :P
lol :)
@Del, best of luck! Hope things calm down soon. We'll keep Del moving for you.
EDIT:
I'm only 70% sure I didn't break a rule with that Strider's action. (Which didn't really matter, since it rolled a 1.) It has a special ability to attack and maintain the Grapple as a move action. (Intended to allow it to strike at something else with it's spear, I think). A reposition maneuver is an attack that is also Standard action. So... I think(?) action economy allows me to make two attacks in the same round without a Full Attack, thanks to the creature special rule. But that just feels... wrong. I tried to balance my discomfort by giving it a -4 to both attacks.

Since I'm out of the combat, I went and looked at their stat block and WOW. They definitely get to make two attacks without the full attack penalty once they're grappling someone. Plus gorge if it goes move:feeding tendril + standard:bite ! That's spicy.

Strek Armstrom |

Psst... you're up!

So I did read that stat block right.. Those are some nasty brutes! Their gorge came into play once. Though by the time it did, either their victim or they were close to death.
The Reposition maneuver is always less effective than I expect. Though this time it did work pretty well by shifting this creature's prey further away from those who could help her. This combat is JUICY.

Reposition definitely doesn't go as far as I'd like either, but it does have one neat feature: since it moves a foe, that foe provokes AoOs from leaving a threatened square. So you can move a creature and then get a free attack off on them. There was an FAQ that clarified that forced movement always provoked AoOs unless stated otherwise in the ability.

Looking behind the GM screen for a moment... This stridermander has 40 HP. So it will go down if someone deals 5 more damage, and Adani will be available to be healed without it threatening the square beside her.
Everyone but Guess? and Karm is in Round 8 now, and Adani will die at the end of Round 8. AND, I already rolled Guess?'s Round 8 attack. Since Karm doesn't have any Healing Serums on him, basically only those in Bold right now have the opportunity to save Adani.

Start to think about what purchases you'd like to make, you'll be heading to town soon.
I was just thinking about this!
Question: if I add augmentations to my legs/feet/arms/hands, I don't want to risk losing them if a hungry enough critter starts an all-you-can-eat Strek buffet.
Say I wanted to get a Speed Suspension, Minimal. Could I pay an extra 10% for Adaptive Biochains to have the Augmentation regrow with my limb?
That's not listed as a benefit, but then, I feel most equipment rules aren't written with Brakim in mind.

![]() |

@Strek, I'll give you two options there.
1. If you pay the extra 10%, then the augmentation regrows with your limb in that same amount of time.
2. If you don't pay the extra 10%, the augment isn't lost when the limb is eaten. Rather, you would need to search through the corpse of the animal to fetch the augment and have a surgeon stick it back in you for a minor fee (but the same number of hours). That's what anyone else would need to do if their arm was eaten by a creature.
So the extra credits give you your augment back right away, whereas not spending them means you could be without your augment until you returned to a major city.
@BNW, I think the 1800 credits on Slide 4 are for this book. So that's how much every individual has made since you got the ship.
