I should’ve used this song during Barzillai’s ball.Did you not notice I named the Ruby Masquerade’s social encounter “Paper Faces on Parade”?!
Nope! Because I have somehow managed never to actually watch PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, so I’m not as familiar with the music as I might be.

Oh. My bad, I've probably been running life boost on Jisara wrong. This says that Jisara can choose to get the fast healing before the duration ticks down by one round, so she DOES get four rounds' worth of healing. But it still doesn't happen on the turn it is cast.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

So, some stuff happened.
For context, I have the initiative card in the notes app of my phone, and what I do is that I type out an actual post on my laptop in a blank Word document and then edit the notes app and tokens as I go. Then, when I’m ready to post, I 1) post the initiative card from my notes app and 2) edit the post and copy-paste the actual post from the Word document right before the initiative card.
This has been my methodology for the better part of 5 years of PbP, and this is the FIRST time that I have spaced so hard that I did 1) while not even noticing that I did NOT do 2). I may have done it before, but this is the first time it’s been on a MAJOR post of mine.
And I’ve had to restart my computer twice in the past couple days, so the word document with the actual post is basically long gone. And even if it weren’t, the die rolls are tied to a given post, so because I can’t edit anymore, all of the die rolls are just straight-up gone.
So unless y’all want to just “take my word” on it (which I’m averse to doing because that feels dishonest), I’ll just have to completely redo the next round. Which is probably for the best, because based on my own memory, Chance took two crits in a row to the face and only survived because of his temp HP.
Luckily resetting the tokens is as easy as going to a previous version of the document in Google Slides.

Vitalis Tanessen |

Well I’m glad I said something then. It sucks that the post got lost though. I understand the amount of time some posts take.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Okay, there we go. Only major differences between this and the other iteration being that 1) Hei-Fen actually got affected by the enervation, and 2) Chance didn't get crit a SECOND time in this version.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Okay, side note: I really like that the Remaster made "verbal components" a lot more up to flavor and interpretation as opposed to always being "weird and random words of power." I really like flavoring divine casting as a literal plea to the god for an effect. Plus, depending on the flavor, it can actually give a small hint as to what they're casting.

Jisara |

I'm back! and unfortunately i did get full blown covid, yay

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

First of all, Hero Point to Chance for the suspended retribution that completely threw a wrench into Hei-Fen’s tactics.
Secondly: I’m aware that we are in the middle of the “12 days of Christmas,” so people will likely have a lot more going on in their offline lives, so I completely understand that the coming days will be a lot slower when it comes to posting and whatnot. No big deal. Spend time with your families.

Thanks. I somehow managed to catch something else at the end of last week that had me feeling like crap, but the main issue is that my team is short staffed during a crunch. I’m hoping that the work issues will be mostly finished this week, but they’re more likely to run through the end of the year.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Couple things:
1) @Chance & Edrakk: Could you put an indicator of your proficiency in each of your skills so I don't have to constantly reverse-calculate what it is every time?
2) @Edrakk: This isn't RAW until the release of Player Core 2, but I'm going to make a GM call about this because this does seem to be the direction Paizo's going: Instead of Tengu Lore (the ancestry feat) making you trained in Tengu Lore (the skill), it gives you the Additional Lore skill feat in Tengu Lore. Most notably, that means that Tengu Lore automatically scales as you level, meaning you'd be a master in that skill.
EDIT: Also, combat's over. Nobody post until I have.

Will do - it’s weird that Hero Lab doesn’t export it that way, but easy enough to add.
EDIT: Skills are updated to indicate proficiency level, as well as to include Chance’s untrained skills, which are more relevant now that he has taken Untrained Improvisation.

Just realized i apparently can’t count to 50 and did 4 too many saves against the poison XD

Jisara |

Good lord.

Vitalis Tanessen |

Fun face: that poison did a whopping 218 damage to Chance (average is 175).
That's a lot of damage.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

First of all: Merry Christmas! Please spend time with your families and loved ones; we’ll still be here when you get back.
Secondly: Hero Point to Chance for absolutely tanking that unending itch.
Thirdly: Hero Points reset in a week

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Okay, holidays are over! (Not really, I know) So let's try to get back into the swing of things. Notably, I'm still giving time to react to the current situation, but I also want to know what y'all's next course of action is. I presume you want to rest, but from the sounds of things y'all were going to go to the Record Hall to deal with Tiarise and her familiar Kelaxiax.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Cleric, I don't believe so. But...you DO have a Shensen.
Also, sorry about being absent. The post-Christmas time has hit me harder than usual.

“Chance” Ravennablitz |

Between year-end crunch at work and family obligations, I'm still going to be slow to post until Jan. 1 or 2.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Alright, so does anyone have objections to resting up first (which will cause another set of Reprisals)?

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Hero Points have reset
And I guess I should’ve been clearer: I’m giving y’all the chance to plan out your next course of action. Considering you have a not-at-all stealthy paladin, I am assuming that you ALL aren’t really going to do this sneakily, but I was wondering what your exact plan of action would be; e.g. kick down the door, subtlety be damned, and roll initiative immediately; send someone through the door to scout out the situation; etc.?

Vitalis Tanessen |

If I were playing a different type of character, I'd have various ideas. But unfortunately most of them involve trickery that my paladin would not suggest.
I don't know the exact layout of what we're looking at here but:
We could try the old, wearing the enemy uniform trick.
Or create a distraction and lure some enemies out the front door.
Or open a door or window and throw some bombs inside.
Etc.

“Chance” Ravennablitz |

I can play Chance as abrasive all day, but is there a mechanical effect I should have in mind? Does the curse impact Charisma-based skill checks, or Chance’s spellcasting?

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Outcast's curse, which makes Chance's current suggestion even MORE of a bad idea XD

“Chance” Ravennablitz |

Chefs are supposed to be abrasive, right?

Vitalis Tanessen |

I just waiting on the rest of the party. Otherwise, I guess me and Chance are showing up as chefs and when that fails we just kill everyone.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Yeah, the time since Christmas has been really rough for me due to offline stresses.
I also know Jisara's going through some stuff, too.
Haven't heard from Edrakk.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Couple of things:
1) While I appreciate the dedication to roleplaying the curse, Chance, maybe take it down two notches.
2) Jisara’s player is…a bit MIA at the moment. I don’t have the full context of what’s going on with them, but based on what context I DO have…it’s quite a bit of personal stuff. I’m trying to get in contact now, but I just thought I’d let y’all know.
3) I’m still a bit confused about what y’all’s course of action is. It sounds like you’re going to try to stake out the Record Hall from one of the nobles’ houses, but I will remind y’all that you’re on a bit of a soft time crunch with the whole Reprisal thing Barzillai’s doing.

Vitalis Tanessen |

I think we just want to get an idea of what the outside of the building looks like and any guards posted around it. Then we'll probably just use the front door.

Jisara |

Hey everyone,
Still alive! I've been struggling with a major depressive phase coupled with some actually bad stuff going on IRL. I struggle with whether to come back or just drop out (semi-)gracefully, and I would like to continue if it's all right with y'all. I know it's been frustrating with how much trouble I've had lately.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Of course, Jisara.
Also, FYI to y’all who want to stake out the Record Hall for a bit: there is indeed only one entrance and no one comes or goes from there.

Vitalis Tanessen |

In the bridge fight, Edrakk offered Vitalis a Lesser Titanic Fury Cocktail. I assume it is still an available option.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Okay, since y'all are going in guns a-blazing, please state any prebuffs (5+ minute duration) before I officially get the ball rolling.

Vitalis Tanessen |

I guess that titanic fury one I mentioned. And if Jisara wants to cast haste on me. Otherwise, I don't have any spells of my own.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

And if Jisara wants to cast haste on me.
5+ minute duration, as I said before.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

So, the bonus to attack rolls from the fury cocktail doesn’t stack with your +2 weapon potency rune. But, y’know, a nat 20 is a nat 20.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Chance, you do have to tell me WHAT you're wanting to learn about the Hellcat, since that's how the remaster works now. (Recall Knowledge Questions on Player Core pg. 232 is really helpful)

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Hey, y’all. I just wanted to chime in here expressing my concerns over the lull in posting that’s been happening since Christmas and I’ve been really worried. I will admit that I’m also at fault for this because I have a difficult time forcing a post out at times.
I just wanted to bring this up so it didn’t just go unsaid in my mind for ages.
