Spells:
1st level 2/2: bless, protection from evil, [open slot]; 0th level; create alcohol, guidance, stabilize

I know my staff itself isn’t going to do much damage. Thats why I gave it holy strike (which I'm pretty sure ignores DR, since it's a supernatural ability), so I’m still doing damage. The problem with switching back to my rapier is it means I need to drop this weapon, draw a new one, and then use a 4/day ability again just to get the bonus. I’m pretty sure I would have to do all that, plus climbing up onto one of the statues to get firm footing or make a successful swim check each round, just to get rid of the -2 penalty, and I would still be doing half damage, and it's not like my rapier can get through the DR that easily anyway at FULL damage.

The Exchange

Male Neutral Half-Orc Mesmerist(Chart Caster) 2 HP 15/15 | AC 16 (T 12 FF 14) | CMD 13 | FORT +1 REF +5 WILL +7 | Init +2 | Perc. +5 Speed 30ft | Spell Slots: 0@1st | Active Conditions: 1 CHA damage, Mesmeric Mirror (2)

Holy strike only gets through DR Good, sad to say. The only reason your near max damage crit did 1 hit point of damage is because of the bonus precision damage. Average damage on a 2d6 hit with the sling staff will be about 3.5-5, Max 2 actual non-crit damage; Average damage on a d4+d6 Rapier hit is around 6.25-5 because of the increased crit range, Max 5 non-crit.

Edit: Just saw the staff does 1d4 in melee, which makes the numbers above worse: 3-5 average, 0 max damage. You literally can't hurt her with that thing without a crit or bonus damage.

...of course it does.

Alright, I'll switch next round.

Hoo literally doesn't have an effective combat option so I'll have to try something completely else so :|
I was thinking about 5e damage resistance and not pathfinder damage reduction

Clearly, our approach is not working. Can anyone make it to the cage in the corner? Is there anything in there that can help us out? Like a nuke?

The Exchange

Male Neutral Half-Orc Mesmerist(Chart Caster) 2 HP 15/15 | AC 16 (T 12 FF 14) | CMD 13 | FORT +1 REF +5 WILL +7 | Init +2 | Perc. +5 Speed 30ft | Spell Slots: 0@1st | Active Conditions: 1 CHA damage, Mesmeric Mirror (2)

The only suggestion I have is someone could theoretically grapple her and get her out of the water so the melee folks (preferably Boomer with his hammer) don't have to deal with the non-piercing penalties on aquatic attacks, but when your best idea is using the grapple rules, something has clearly gone horribly wrong with the plan.

Vozzik has already thrown/is throwing everything he has at this fight. Vozzik is also not going to back down...I don't know how to square this circle.

He doesn't believe in 'game balance'. Gandalf always lets him pass. As a feat, he has Exotic Weapon Proficiency (beard). The city guard often question him, just because they find him so interesting. His dice bag is woven from tarrasque leather. His TPKs end game lines. His blood cures moderate wounds. He once punched a flumph. Yes, you heard me. He belongs to a prestige class whose sole requirement for entry is just being him. ♬ He is indeed, the most interesting GM in the world. ♬

DR anything can be tough. The adventure Dawn of the Scarlet Sun is probably the worst (from the PC perspective) example of this. On the plus side, in this instance, your opponent doesn't have a lot of damage output.

So, yeah, for character reasons Vozzik is distracted, but y'all should probably be a little more freaked out by Virml being here, beat up and toothless and not, you know, up in the Scriptorium where we last saw him headed?

Stefan just did though he is more angrily freaking out as opposed to just being scared.

I know that it isn't going to affect him in combat or anything at this point, but do we want to wait the 15 minutes so I can prepare protection from evil and break the charm on Zahd, or do we just want to go?

Vozzik would request 5 minutes to implant his last two Mesmeric tricks, so...no skin off my nose, but I'm also not sure that's the best use of one of the party's few remaining spell slots, to be sure.

Is there any chance we're going to be finished in time to use these characters in Gameday?

Gameday IX starts in like 6 days. There's a chance if everyone posts like 4 times a day. However, at the current posting rate I would have to say no.

Now if we are shooting for Gameday X... it would still be no.

So the party has searched downstairs and on the main floor of the library for the missing scraps of the scroll you need to get back to Mistress Koi, that leaves the mezzanine area (where Koi is), the front lobby, and the upstairs spriptorium. I just need a rough idea of how you would like to proceed.

CHRONICLES!

As I am an optimist and had to report this game a couple of months ago you get all your prestige points even though the party did not complete the primary, or enough of the secondary victory conditions. Some of these were needed to unlock the second Dark Archive boon. Also the group lost out on 170 gp each for not dealing with the sly, occasionally fox-faced man.

As for the other Dark Archive Boon, so long as Hoo doesn't open her mouth for any reason, Shaine shouldn't notice the copy of the Darklands Precepts in her possession allowing you to pass it to Zarta later.

Make sure your chronicle looks good, and that you download it. Let me know if there are any mistakes.

If folks have any questions, about chronicles, the scenario, or whatever, lemme know I love spoilers.

I still haven't been able to get Paizo customer service to answer my emails requesting GM control over the thread. I tried again earlier this week, Normally they can do it inside a week. Until they do, I won't be able to render the thread inactive, so feel free to chat away. ;)

Thank you for taking over, TWMIG. In no part your responsibility, I think you did an admirable job, but I have to say that this hot mess has soured me to some extent on PbP. I might try again, at some point, but...woof.

Yeah, doing sometimes visual riddles on your phone can be a bit of a stretch. Also this is one of those adventures that requires a lot of verbal interaction, not always easy in format that hopes everyone posts at least once a day (and sometimes on weekends).

Speaking as someone who has sometimes written stuff like this, I can say that "Overflow Archives" is a great game for in-person play if you can take five-ish hours. Otherwise, for me it's a bit of a rush though not as much of a rush as some--"Out of Anarchy" for instance. It's a great game, but the sheer number of paths the party can go down is pretty daunting for a PbP.

My advice is to stick to the most straight-forward missions (and lots of dungeon crawls) particularly the earlier season 1-6 missions. "Thornkeep" isn't bad for this if you go the dungeon crawl route.
