Yeah, we were talking about that while I was watching that episode.

In the PbP, I ran, the characters come back to the future only to find out they never left. In fact, the reason they were chosen to go back from their timeline was, specifically because, in the timeline they returned to--the corrected timeline--they had been murdered. The game then shifted to solving the mystery of their own murders. A super-intelligent extradimensional computer that monitors the timeline from outside time selected them for this purpose.

I informed them. They seem interested. Since they have a magic wand, they can pop in anytime they feel up to speed.

Enyo told Theo a bunch of stuff while they were drinking. Not all of it actually made it into the game.

I've written all Enyo's revelations about the Tarotverse under spoilers in the Campaign info. I think we can assume Theo shares this information with the other players over time. They drank a lot though, so he might not remember.

So, of the four PbPs I've run in the last 3 years, two took place on World 12 and, one, involved time travel. One short-lived one took place on Witchworld and used Bloodlines and Black Magic rules. The fourth is this one.

For some reason, I've wanted to keep them all compatible, all part of the same series of stories.

I knew you had that Tarotverse thing going, and when you mention your idea for a time travel RPG, I almost suggested a crossover might be cool.

Then my kids and I got trapped in that Flash/Supergirl/Arrow/Legends crossover, and I remembered that crossovers are the worst thing since unsliced bread. That and, in a PbP, if it worked you’d want to keep the players together.

So funny thing... now we ARE doing the crossover, but in that good way where we all become a new team!

Another GM whose campaign I’ve been in since 2016 also makes his own stories (no APs) on his own world. The Pathfinder game is year 2002 or something and the Shadowrun game is year 3010. I think he created the world in the real-life 1990s, so there’s a rich history.

I’ve done the same thing, though I’m at the point now where I much prefer playing over GM’ing.

I might be getting a online game together this fall. I'm still trying to survive the start of the semester in two weeks.

If anyone is interested, this is the link with the mech rules. I'm still reading them.

I think the mechs will have 10' reach and occupy 15'x15' squares. I'll make sure to learn the rules re: hacking.

This could be interesting. I hope it won't be frustrating.

Welcome!

For the record, you World 12-ers know about time travel.

Nissa’s knowledge is limited to the Time Travel unit in her 20th Century Film Class, which had her review Back to the Future and a Twilight Zone episode where someone tried to assassinate Hitler.

In any case, I believe we’re all in agreement that time travel is dumb.

Thanks for checking in. I can imagine emergency services can get hectic at times. Zellgato probably got a little time travelling in since his Children of Gaia adventure. He also spent some time on World One--not being on World 12, FATE can't erase him by killing his ancestors or anything. This TAROT team were kind of refugees until they could lock in on FATE.

Which you just did. ... The last time we saw our World 12 heroes, this PbP's heroes had just handed them a picture of Ms. Grey and you recognized her as an older version of someone you met already ... someone who works for billionaires trying to rebuild a nation ... Just the kind of person who would end up working for trillionaires trying to rebuild the timeline. (Although, she did give you the location of IX and Genius and not share it with RAIN, for whatever that is worth).

Yep.. Also my relatively small town has been having a string of DUIs, and violence.

So. I caught up on recent. I didn't start at the beginning. From around pg 38 to current, around gameplay from around when the Masked/Bear combo left with Dr Moore. Though plenty of references that I dont' know (such as comics-superman but also the PC's being comics?) but not like Zellgato would know it anyway.

Seems like everyone was sent on a mission to ambush an incoming Yacht.. of red shirts? With Thin Spot's 3 scientist goofballs.

Anyone got a good idea for hoping in? Or would it be better to wait until this arc moves around?a bit earlier would've been easier to slot in but life and all.

gm concerning That Person and Alt Future Zell:

Future Zellgato may not trust ~that person~ but this Zellgato wouldn't distrust given the previous interactions up to that point. Depends on how much Future Zellgato mentioned. Which is little that I know of. But right now That Person is fair trusted considering her previous actions. Also Zellgato's former life was that of a military medic. He rather understands doing work that he believes will help but-but is inherently distasteful in the moment. Though years of time change folks. Her and possiblye Future himself.
Of note. the "ability crystal" upgrade is going to be from Alternate Future Older Zellgato, basically alternate timeline future memory fragments, something Alt Zell got together to jumpstart that timeline Zellgato. Help him adapt. Zellgato also recieved a similiar mask (Because that sounds cool) from himself that he'll use.

As a sidenote. I've actually built Zellgato at multiple levels and different versions. So if you ever need a future zell build, I've got them. and different versions. I've got two main builds. One which would be the original version and one that is the alt timeline future (because it involves multiclassing that i'd never do playing organically)
Since there are at least two Zellgatos hopping around now. Fun with World 12's fragmentation timeline, lots of randoms.

You’d know, unless there’s some timeline oddity that says you don’t.

p.23 is where we get sucked into the Superman comic. It’s pretty hilarious—especially the car chase. Your characters are in the car. Apparently, TAROT was after us for unauthorized entry in a work of fiction.

I think p.28 is the first World-Twelver sighting, technically, though we’re just shooting each other’s tires at that point. It’s somewhere in the 30s that we talk to Mask Man and Bear Guy.

Hopping in:

• You have a wand.
• You know where we are.
• You know our presence at the Bahamas is related to FATE.

I’m guessing the GM would give you some knowledge that compels you to return to our world so soon.

I'll hop back sometime and read up.
Since that Masked Man was an Alt Future that played with time, which resulted in this Zellgato (From the other game).
And I have a fluff for the ability crystal that would link up with that, giving memory impressions from Alt Timeline Masked Man (which'll explain the difference in characterization and base knowledge while I catch up. And just a neat lil story element for the me's)

Could have this be a bit after getting picked up by the other version (who ya'll said good bye to, but time dimension shenangans).
So could just be a 'these folks seem trust worthy and will help you learn the rops' situation.

Depending on GM thought.
I'm not sure if our Uplifted Bear's life is going, hopefully fine.

The 'supers' all got to tweak the build in a non-game-breaking way. Would an injection crossbolter be game breaking? Doesn't feel like it would be.

Sorry that you're feeling unmotivated, Gristlethorn. These games are designed to let people come and go if they want and, since Gristlethorn has access to a world-jumping crystal wand he could do that for a time and pop back in anytime. But, if you're still having fun, stick around.

I know I just gave a whole whack of information, but the long and short of it is:
(1)Future Zellgato came back in time, gave you a wand, and told you to get out of this dimension before you were eliminated by FATE.
(2) You all went to World One, which is a typical fantasy world except for the City of Gates, where the people from other dimensions (TAROT) have a base.
(3) Some people from another dimension showed you a sketch of a woman who works for FATE. It looks like a 50-something April Patel.
(4) You don't know when or where April is, but you know she's organizing an invasion of another world on behalf of FATE.

Female Halfling Solarian | HP:51/51, SP:49/49, RP:8/9 | AC:20 | F:+6, R:+12, W:+7/+9v.Fear | Perc:+3, Init:+9 | 12v.Fire

Sometimes the non-optimal builds end up being more effective than expected. I find myself doing the same as I do with all my high-STR fighter types: have the PC do the best s/he can.

The difference is that I’m often redefining “best s/he can” as I learn what my gentler characters are capable of.

@Gristlethorn,
Welcome anyway! I hope despite being stressed, you find this game to be a welcome escape, time permitting.

A large bear who is a politician is a fun concept!

As for Zellgato…
Culture: 1d20 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (18) + 1 + (2) = 21
…if he looks like his avatar (unmasked), I believe this check means Nissa will think he looks familiar.

FATE wears masks for two reasons (1) because they don't want rivals to delete their ancestors and (2) because I'd have had to describe Zellgato's appearance and then it would be obvious I was just NPCing Zellgato.

DImension hopping bear buddy!

Avatar was about as close to "damaged medic/science tech" as I could find in the avatar lists. Though now I think that's how Older Zellgato looks with scars and such without his mask.
I do have art for Zell's general look. With his gear and such from the previous game. Though. I woudln't know how to share a physical piece of art on Paizo forums.

The Zellgato ya'll meet is about 28ish, I'm figuring the future one is 33 or 35ish depepnding.

I stuck with the Bolt Action (Venomcaster) injection rifle. Crossbow is extremely cool sounding too. But the reloading is problematic, and its too low level for Manufacturing Fusion to allow Swift Action reloading. There are smarter (and cheaper) ones. But I just love the idea of the medic with a bolt action analog old rifle he snuck out from the military when he got out, along with a few other rememberence items.

---
Oh dear April. Though. Now Zellgato (current not future) is going on the assumption that she's not herself, so to speak. So that'll be fun.

Hrm.. now how to hop in. Without it feeling odd or forced.
though, if it turns into a fight could start by helping with that. (not entirely sure if its intending to be an assault) I can think of multiple reasons Zellgato would want to observe the group, even if his other self told him they're good folks to link up with. But would certainly help if things went oddly.
Unless anyones got a better idea? Could've shown up over night but that'd be a bit of retconning

Well, Older Zellgato did know where they were going. He might not know exactly what is going on with April, if he got her picture and just recently turned over the wand to you to you to get you out of the timeline and to safety.

Or, does he give you the Wand? If he does, it implies you'll need to be going after FATE as he is turning over one of the tools to do so. He'd probably want it back once this was finished. If he doesn't, he could just send you to the island to help from that end and you could appear anytime.

We are about to see a fight scene, I think, and they can be long. You both could appear at any time you're ready.

I'll go with "Alt Future Zell dropped him off" as I don't know enough about the Wands to want to hold one haha. Also I sorta like the idea of Alt Zellgato taking this zellgato's "place" and trying to work his way through that to get info/changes.

Just they are a running abit late. Having meant to show up the day before. Is there any hill or rooftop nearby ish ? within 300-400 feet of where he could see folks being gatherd.

This is actually a map of the island. It's fairly flat and looks like it sometimes gets washed over. The center of events is near the center of the island. Since it curves around, there are many places to get a good look at the bay. It's not that big.

Probably a smart move to not be the versions of yourselves you didn’t play.

For a selfish reason that may not pan out, I like NOT having a wand. Mostly because I love using the Bombshell to get around.

I’m kinda hoping to do something like that, even though it would cost 1RP just for me to fit in the cockpit, and would possibly require a Pilot check.

I love the idea that Gris and Z have been hiding on the island for the last day or two and watching cautiously. After the things they've seen, they're a little paranoid perhaps. Fair.

Is the mech a full cockpit style? or is it Exo Squad style with mostly open and just like bigger power armour?

The mecha are huge, so significantly bigger than the video. Not far off from the overall look of them.

The power suit in the video is pretty much like the two cargobots on the cargo boat. Charles, Verve, and Theo trashed an automated one when they were trying to get into the cargo container before, but there are two others on site.

Female Halfling Solarian | HP:51/51, SP:49/49, RP:8/9 | AC:20 | F:+6, R:+12, W:+7/+9v.Fear | Perc:+3, Init:+9 | 12v.Fire

Hmm... I goofed at least twice.

+10 is Pilot, but “ranks in Pilot” is 4. That makes my first attack a miss no matter which AC applies. Second attack still hits at 30… but… after a careful read of reckless gloves, the +2 does not apply (because I’m not ramming with a vehicle, I’m using a vehicle’s weapon), so… 28.

The +1 is for photon attune, so the +1 damage bonus is correct.

So the question I still have is, do I get two attacks without penalty? If yes, my second attack hits.

If no, my multi-attack feat reduces the penalty to -3 (instead of -4), meaning my roll is exactly 25. (Same as KAC.) So does that hit or miss, and if I need to take the multi-attack penalty to hit twice, will you allow me to roll the third attack?

Summary:
I think this is right:

Atk: +10+2 changes to +4
Dmg: +1 stays

Dual Strike = -3 for Nissa because feat.

_____

I don’t know if I need to apply the -3 for attacking twice.

If so,
2nd atk is 25.
Can I roll a third?

If no,
2nd atk is 28 (>KAC).
I’ll leave it at that.

Okay, so the +10 is for Piloting. You can add Piloting or your attack bonus. What's the +9?

NVM, I see now. That's the mecha bonus.

What a rule: "Mech Attack = 1d20 + 8 + 1/5 the mech’s tier + bonuses from upper limb components (upper limb weapons only) + the operator’s base
attack bonus or the operator’s ranks in the Piloting skill + bonuses
from the weapon + range penalty"

Female Halfling Solarian | HP:51/51, SP:49/49, RP:8/9 | AC:20 | F:+6, R:+12, W:+7/+9v.Fear | Perc:+3, Init:+9 | 12v.Fire

Now I don’t feel dumb for being confused! (But don’t get me wrong—I love that you include chases and mechs, and generally experiment. It makes the game fun!)

Well… let’s leave it at two attacks regardless and you can mentally adjust the rolls.

Next round, do I roll d20+9+4 ~or~ d20+9+10?
(I assume the opponent is also a Pilot, so it will be a fair fight either way! I mean, other than me cheap-shotting him.)

And again, how many attacks?

One without penalty; three with penalty?
~or~
Two without penalty; three with penalty?

I think it is one without penalty, three with.

Here's my thinking. It says you can make a full attack if you don't move. "You can spend a full action to make two attacks, each with a –4 penalty to the attack rolls. These attacks can be made with the same weapon or different weapons..."

The 'dual strike' shifts that to three attacks at -4 instead of two attacks at -4.

As you add operators to the mecha, you can add further attacks.

Just to be clear, Starfinder Core says you can make a full attack if you don't move. "You can spend a full action to make two attacks, each with a –4 penalty to the attack rolls. These attacks can be made with the same weapon or different weapons..."

Dual Strike is from the tech playtest.

They say at the beginning of the mech section, that rules for mech work combat similarly to rules for other PC combat.

Female Halfling Solarian | HP:51/51, SP:49/49, RP:8/9 | AC:20 | F:+6, R:+12, W:+7/+9v.Fear | Perc:+3, Init:+9 | 12v.Fire

Okay, it wasn’t clear whether I had already moved. For simplicity’s sake, let’s treat my turn as a single blow, disregarding the second attack. The +2 (reckless gloves) shouldn’t count, so it’s 25 if you take Pilot as +10 or 19 if you take “Ranks in Pilot” as +4.

Just let me know your call on what number to roll. (I expect that if your call is +10, the foe will also be a skilled pilot!)

I think ability bonuses etc. are including in your 'ranks' in a skill, so Nissa would have 10 ranks in Pilot--3 from Dex, 3 from Class skill, 4 that she invested.

Okay, we'll just let the single blow count. Thanks to Kai the shields were down anyhow, so it still does a significant bit of damage.

This may be a ridiculously short fight though.

Actually, I'm wondering now. I see on a forum where they say that it should be "raw ranks" because it is filling in for BAB which wouldn't scale that fast. Seems like something that could be made clearer.

Female Halfling Solarian | HP:51/51, SP:49/49, RP:8/9 | AC:20 | F:+6, R:+12, W:+7/+9v.Fear | Perc:+3, Init:+9 | 12v.Fire

Cool... and that probably *is* the intent. Otherwise, a skilled pilot and a karate master of the same level would be equals when piloting a mech.

So I guess it’s Big Red’s move. Then, if my mech still runs, I’ll see how I fare with a 3-hit combo! (-3 for Nissa due to Multi-Attack feat, which includes small arms and operative vehicles.)

I asked on the barely used mech Playtest forum, but I do think that it is probably raw ranks. I'm now wondering how often they do this. They use the term 'ranks' in some places where the bonuses are definitely included.

I think giving Big Red a chance to make a move will make things more interesting...

Female Halfling Solarian | HP:51/51, SP:49/49, RP:8/9 | AC:20 | F:+6, R:+12, W:+7/+9v.Fear | Perc:+3, Init:+9 | 12v.Fire

Oh… well, let me know your final call if it changes based on the above. My current roll is a nat.20, so the six points won’t make a difference.

I guess the question is what is the intent?
• Raw Ranks: a mech is just as powerful when operated by a pilot or a warrior.
• Full Skill Bonus: a mech is most dangerous in the hands of a skilled pilot.

And also, with just BAB, you hit 40% of the time. If that’s intended, it means mech vs mech strikes armor more often than not. (Nothing wrong with that—just pointing out the math.)
