A discussion thread to discuss things ...

I'm enjoying the team so far, and like that we start off just chatting a bit until we inevitably are thrust into danger!

I'm resisting the temptation to post for a bit so others can get a word in. Cannot... hold out.. much... longer!

Uncanny Valerie's character is updated with level appropriate gear. She does not have uberpowerful weaponry, I figure her role is very much support. I am assuming she functions in most ways like a Starfinder android, and thus having some bio-organic matter and a complex mind to sustain and thus needs to eat and sleep. She doesn't have a lot of personal gear because she probably was sent off with a minimal amount of stuff and has only picked up or purchased a few things along the way. She still has 197 credits to spend if need be.

I threw in jump jets as an "armor" upgrade (going into the upgrade slot that she gets in her body) -- as an android magician it feels right for her to be able to have short bursts of flight.

I took off her holy symbol, as in this campaign setting, while planar/celestial (lower case c) in origin, she is not really a priest. She sort of is her own divine focus. For a superheroes campaign it doesn't feel too weird for her not to have it. However, if is problematic, I can put it back, it's not like I can't afford it.

Let me know if anything looks amiss.

I know the feeling re: damage. I do some damage, but my really cool powers don't come online til 4th (telekinetic haul to lift a few hundred lbs.) and 5th (ghetto self flight).

I'm just going to make one item swap (now that I've read up on all that are available), ditching the stabilizer for a personal upgrade to CHA. (I'd enhance DEX, but then I'll only get +1 instead of +2 @ Lv.5.)

There is certainly an opportunity for a bruiser to have an epic fight coming up. Charles may need to beat something up. The Godling and the super-spy/octopi could also come in handy.

@Tarren,
I was going to PM you a thought, but since Subatomic Size is part of the story (I think), I may as well bring it up publicly.

My original proposal was that Nissa's Subatomic duration is short (1 min/Resolve), but I was wondering if the reason for that could be because at Subatomic Size, Nissa is kinda lost in a universe made of unbreathable atoms.

This explanation allows for GM-controlled exceptions: in a stable environment, Nissa could remain in that state.

So, for example, this experiment would keep Nissa in the blood-vessel-sized device, which sustains her. In this case, duration is controlled by you, the GM.

Thoughts?

(And I'm aware I'm probably way-overthinking this, arguably worse than my character with the bungee cord.)

Crap. I am too far behind for gameplay. I'm sorry. Had to deal with leftover family issues after Thanksgiving. Good luck, everyone!

What you missed:
Posts #1 to ~30 — Hi, how are you, pleased to meet you!
Posts ~30 to ~40 — Hi heroes, we're two scientists and a military guy!
Posts ~40 to >50 — Disagreement ensues!
Posts >50 to <70 — Agreement ensues!
Post #70 — Are we ready to attempt transdimensional travel?

In short, you missed stuff, but I don't think you missed the proverbial boat.

I was actually wondering if your godling and/or the octo-person would be characters we meet as a result of the portal opening.

Some story has happened, but no one has advanced a level yet.

If the Godling wants to enter, there would be an opportunity. I invite you to keep reading the game thread and consider joining at another time. You'd probably see an opportunity calling you at some point.

The godling might find this becoming a new origin story, if desired. I could see a moment for a godling to just walk into the game thread. Given the pace this PbP has been going, I'm going to guess the opportunity would be on Wednesday.

I was thinking the godling could come late, due to being hungover, accidentally walking into one of Dionysus's wild reverlies in Rio De Janeiro a few weeks before.

My intention is for the adventures to be episodic. I'm hoping to keep up interest and pace long enough that everyone gets back safely and can decide whether to continue. This gives opportunities for new players to join. Kind of like the way story lines in comic books work.

For fun, I made a drawing of Nissa posing on the Bombshell for propaganda purposes.

IMAGE (Now in my profile!)

Honestly, when I say mote-Nissa is clothed in light, I mean that her features are indistinguishable. But for the picture, I had the light form a little backless top, skirt, and jewelry. I based her hair on the Paizo avatar, instead of with pigtails like the drawing I made about a week before discovering this campaign.

I also don’t think the real Bombshell has wings, but I do think the sign was engraved in cursive.

@Tarren,
I’ll wait for you to confirm Nissa’s back before having her fly out and tell what she saw.

I’m watching my daughters perform in the Nutcracker today, so I’ll likely check in during intermission or when they’re in the dressing room packing up costumes.

Female Halfling Solarian | HP:23, SP:21, RP:6 | AC:17e/17k | F:+4, R:+5, W:+4/+6v.Fear | Perc:+2, Init:+3

Posted during intermission, so in case there's any confusion, the acro check was more for RP than anything. The GM post implied a safe landing (which I take to mean no check necessary), so I was rolling to see if Nissa could maintain enough coordination to bail while growing and grab her own ship with her hand.

Hello, I'm TheWaskally's character submission. Please look my character profile for I'm sure I messed up the conversion from Pathfinder to Starfinder.

HP/SP: 22 (22) / 26 (27) | EAC/KAC: 17/17 | Init: +3 | Fort: +6; Ref: +6; Will: +4 | Resolve: 2 (4) | Perception: +6 Force Ward: 0 (9); regen 3 hp/min

Okay, here's what I noticed that needs changed:

*Starfinder doesn't use traits, nor favored class bonuses. Both of those mechanics are rolled into your character's theme.

*your attributes are lower than they should be. Here's a quick rundown of how you generate attributes in starfinder:

1) All stats start at 10
2) add your stat modifiers for your race (in this case, +2 to any stat)
3) add the stat benefit from your theme (you don't have a theme right now, but you should pick one)
4) you have 10 points to spend on your stats on a 1-to-1 basis

*Your health is calculated incorrectly (your HP should be 28, and your SP should be 24+(con modx3))

*Your proficiencies should be Basic Melee, Advanced Melee, Longarms, Small Arms, Light Armor, Heavy Armor, shields

*Your skills should be adjusted to reflect the fact that there are no traits or favored class bonuses. You should have 4 +Int Mod skill points per level +1 for human), and your class skills should be:

- Acrobatics, Athletics, Culture, Diplomacy, Intimidation, Mysticism, Perception, Sense Motive, Stealth, Survival

*You'll want to drop fast learner and pick a different feat (incidentally, your character doesn't even qualify for faster learner, as it requires a 13 int, but that's neither here nor there).

*As far as suggestions go, I would recommend that you switch to heavy armor and drop your dex (since you won't need it for much with Force of Brawn).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry that's a bit of a long list. Let me know if you have any questions.

@Olympian,
I'm a Starfinder newbie myself. (Knowing how PF2's character creation system works helped, though.)

I've been consulting AoN a lot.

The math works out so you get +2 for your race, +1 for theme, and another +10. In other words, you start with a 10 in everything and you end up adding 13 points.

Also note that 18 is the max stat at Lv.1-4. (Anyone with a 20 in something spent 1400 of their starting 4000 credits on a personal upgrade. You can afford one, but not two since each upgrade you buy must have a different bonus.)

When you reach levels 5, 10, 15 and 20, you can increase 4 stats. The increase is +2 to ability scores of 16 or less; +1 to ability scores 17 or more.

Olympian, there's a chance for your character to come in now. He wouldn't really know where he is or how he got there, but this is the kind of place a godling who went on a bender might find himself. If I were some celestial being hanging out with a drunk godling and was getting tired of bar-hopping with his sorry butt, I might drop him here knowing he'd forgive me and continue on my way. Interested, or do you want to wait and see?

Are we going too fast? It's quite a speed, I know, and a speed I enjoy, but I don't want it to feel like work or like anyone is being left out. I also know that combat will eventually slow things down considerably. That hasn't happened yet though. If people need things to slow down a bit, we can do that.

It's not so much the speed as the fact that a lot of things happen while I'm at work or in bed. :D I don't really want to slow things down, either, I just can't exactly get on the forums during those two times.

Yeah, I think we have a few time zones here. A lot of folks post at times I am indisposed. But it's PBP, the pace of PBP should allow for that.

I am trying to be reasonable with my posting rate--reacting if there is something to react to but not trying to get too crazy. Let me know if you have any concerns, I think it would be nice, if some players haven't posted in awhile to hold off on continuing too far before responding a whole bunch if you've already posted a few times recently.

While the thread is very active, I presume some degree of backtagging is acceptable (responding to something further upthread spoilering it if necessary to keep it separate from ongoing action). This is especially useful for just pure RP conversations--let's people take their time in a dialogue while not preventing action from continuing forward.

Every group is different, and this group seems to enjoy talking to each other more, which is great. I keep stepping on this dialogue though because I'm used to groups that are less chatty. I'll try to remember that this group enjoys the back and forth more and give more time for that.

I just noticed I goofed on my spell choices--I get 4 1st level known spells/day + connection spell. I had my connection spell on there plus only 3 more. So I've added the 4th--mystic cure. (Was tempted to do life bubble, as I think that will come in handy for all of us, but I'll hold off on my next level rather than retcon that I had it.)

Sorry... in my attempt to get a post in during lunch, I apparently missed Val’s post, then failed to post my edit: Basically, if Unferth accepts Val’s offer and he tells a story, displays his prowess, etc., then Nissa leaves him to it.

If he’s grumpy or shy or whatever, only *then* does Nissa make the offer for the purpose of saving face as posted.

I saw Unferth as likely trapped by Val--what do you want us to call Uncanny Valerie for short? The Danes are calling her Valerie the Uncanny--and needing an out.

If Nissa hadn't offered him a way out, he would have started slinging some yarn about besting a sea monster or something.

Unferth is a dick in the original too. At this point in Beowulf, he asks Beowulf something along the lines of "Isn't it true that you endangered your men just to win a swimming race, and still lost?" and Beowulf explains that he tied in the race, but slew seven sea-monsters along the way. (Or, at least, that's how I understood it.) It sounds like some pretty high boasting in the hall.

In regards to keeping a reasonable pace that gives people time to post, we won't move to the next little stage before everyone has had a chance to show off for the vikings, if you want it. King Hrothgar would certainly invite you all to share your talents.

Grendel won't pop up until the merriment has begun to die down.

The Queen of the Danes, Wealtheow, is going to invite you to arm-wrestle Theo. It is totally something she would do.

It would just be three Strength checks each ... you could make them all at once and describe the action after both of you have participated.
