I'm kinda of two minds about the virus: it's going to be simultaneously worse and not as bad as people think.
It'll be worse because of people. If people were smart, they wouldn't be doing last minute hoarding, and getting supplies would be basically the same as it was before. People are dealing with it for now, but I know that even the best parents will likely be sick of their kids before everything is said and done, and with more people out of work and not able to make money, it's adding more pressure to what can be a legitimately scary scenario to begin with.
It'll be better because I've been watching the data (thanks Johns Hopkins!) in more or less real time, and the actual number of people who are dying from the virus seem to be lower than the 3.4ish % number that is being thrownaround (which, for the record, and I know that this has been mentioned, influenza is a much deadlier virus).
We've been talking about the data we're seeing in our group chat (almost our entire office is WFH now, with only a couple of people who have to image laptops for the people we support to be able to WFH) and trying to make predictions about when we think this will blow over.
My guess (take with a grain of salt, as I'm an amateur virologist at best) is most likely june/july. I know there are a ton of companies trying to make an Vaccine for the virus, and I've heard rumors that there are some serious amounts of cash being thrown around, but making a vaccine takes time.
Hence, I'm expecting summer to be the turning point.

Today will be my second day of working from home. The situation hasn't been a huge problem for anyone in my family thus far, but I definitely see a lot of the issues it's causing for others.
There's a big chunk of my work that can't be done from home, which will start being an issue for me if things continue for several months. But mostly I'm worried for others.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
@Vrog,
I also expect that. Friends of mine (a married couple / UMass professors) study pandemics for a living, and said about the same.
@GM,
Still gonna hold the explosion; keeping photons attuned because Nissa isn’t sure the threat is neutralized. She believes Fauna is compliant (meaning she won’t harm him), but can’t tell if the creature is playing or about to take over Fauna’s brain. Both IC and OoC, I’m not sure how dangerous this creature is. I’m picturing a smallish critter, and a mix of cute and creepy—and Nissa of all people won’t underestimate a creature for being small and cute!
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
Nah. Theo's just getting the hell out of there.
Hopefully, it’s clear Nissa isn’t using Supernova where Theo and Fauna are. I imagine the creature bolts while Theo is near Fauna, putting him safely between the blast area and the dead end.
This also means, if my understanding is correct (by which I mean: GM interpretation = the correct one), his AoO would hit before Nissa’s.
Charles Wilde |
Charles in chimera form is Large, so would the creature have had to try to move through his space?
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
@Theo, I know the feeling when it comes to bad rolls.
…
You should have seen me in my “Strange Aeons Too” campaign.
One battle: kept missing with arrows.
Next battle: kept missing due to 50% miss chance.
Most recent battle: enemy had DR5. I finally grabbed a sword when a player fell and did a zero-damage crit! The crit failed on the confirm roll, but I didn’t bother editing the damage since I included the DR in my damage roll. I finally hit the enemy with 1 damage (the max I could inflict, rolling a 6 on the d6 damage die), but the only other player still standing posted 1 minute before I did, killing the enemy before my only damaging attack in three battles landed.
...
And in another game, not played in this site, I rolled four natural 20s in a single round (on Discord—actually showed a coworker just so someone besides me and the GM would see it; the odds of that are 1/160,000).
In the next battle, I went from 95 HP (full) to 9 HP from missing so much. This is a Lv.8 fighter with whirlwind and improved crit. I only needed a nat.15 to crit, and I think a nat.9 or 10 to beat the enemies’ AC to confirm crit. So with a character that has a 30% chance of rolling a crit, I was only hitting about 30% of the time.

So, if those were the evil Wonder Twins, is their dad, who created his super-powered kids in a lab and is called Professor, the villainous counterpart of THIS Mysterious Silhouetted Figure???

What's his name? Professor Utonium? I couldn't hear it. But, yes, that's exactly how Flora and Fauna were created.

Oh dear XD

I know that a good bit of this game is social not combat, but I think it's time to level up. What do you all think?
Tarren, I'd like your help leveling me up, please? Stamina Points? Hit Points? Resolve Points? All kinds of crazy $hit.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
Edited GM post for those who prefer multiple choice:
I know that a good bit of this game is social not combat, but I think it's time to level up. What do you all think?
A. Yes.
B. Yes!
C. YES!
D. All of the above.
I choose D.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
Upped all skills, fort and will abs BAB are up… forgot to up resolve.
But here’s the big change: that Stellar Revelation that Paizo invented right after we srarted the game:
Distant Burst (Su)Photon RevelationSource Character Operations Manual pg. 85
Level Required 2Your solar manifestation is an extension of yourself, and you have learned to center your power outward. Any stellar revelations (including zenith revelations) that have a radius and are centered on you can be centered anywhere within 20 feet of you. While attuned or fully attuned, they can instead be centered anywhere within 40 feet of you.
In plain English, my Super Nova can be projected 40 feet away from me!
EDIT - Upped HP/SP/RP.
RP is half level + key mod. (So we all gained 1 RP.)
Verve |
Verve's big trick this level is she can now haul around 800 lbs telekinetically, meaning she can easily lift a man off the ground.
Oh, also more WP/VP, saves, skills, and whatnot.
Charles Wilde |
Probably be tomorrow before I get to it, but I believe Charles will just take Improved Unarmed Attack as his bonus Soldier feat next level to bump his attack damage die up to a d6.

Sure. I'll look at this tomorrow and we can figure it out.

Okay, leveled up. I actually noticed that 4th level was a level he could swap his soldier bonus feat for a Chimeraborn ability, so now he has the ability to switch between his forms as a swift action.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
Okay, Theo. ....
I just bought Starfinder's Godling Legacy Class. I think I'll give it a thorough read and maybe a review.
It looks like you would add 7 to HP and 8 to SP. You would gain 4 skill points. +1 to Base Attack Bonus; +1 to FORT; and +1 to REF
And, you would get one new scion talent. Do you know what those are or would you like recommendations?
Tarren the Dungeon Master |

That feels like a superhero ability.
Have any of you seen Owen K.C. Stephen's Gammafinder stuff? It's post-apocalyptic but perfect for superheroes.
The Olympian |
Thank you, Tarren. I've seen the Modern Godling advertised. Since it's 4th level, do we get a +1 to an ability score?
I took retribution as my scion power, hope it's superhero enough.
Retribution (Su) When foes dare to strike your person, which is a vessel for the divine energies that make you a godling, you can call upon those divine energies to strike down the heathens who dare defile your physical perfection. When you are hit by a melee attack, you may make a melee attack at your full attack bonus against the attacker. Alternatively, you may cast a touch or ranged touch spell with a casting time of 1 standard action or less at the attacker.
Using this ability counts against your attacks of opportunity for the round, and you cannot use it if some condition or circumstance prevents you from making attacks of opportunity. You may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your highest ability modifier.
Charles Wilde |
I have definitely seen the Gammafinder stuff, and that is an interesting point...
@Theo Starfinder does it differently. It's at every fifth level, but it's a major bump--+2 to 4 ability scores if they're below 17, +1 otherwise. So, for example, next level Charles will probably add +1 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Con, and +2 Int.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
I guess I should ask, since we just talked about leveling-up and since a lot has happened since last time I asked, who wants to continue?
I have things that will happen to you and involve more dimension-hopping or you could decide to do something different with your superhero team.
What are your thoughts?
The Olympian |
I enjoyed the dimensional hopping.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
I’m still in!
Interests:
• character development – with LC Preston (whenever we’re on our own Earth)
• action – a dimension-hopping jump into the fray
• team – status quo is fine by me, but I’m open to any ideas others may have
Charles Wilde |
I'm still in!
Charles definitely wants to track down what PhDestruction is up to, even though he's rather ambivalent in his feelings on the whole dimension-hopping thing, at least as it relates to fictional worlds. (He's probably feeling weird about fiction in general after the whole Beowulf thing)
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
The ASoIaF (Game of Thrones) series would be really hard to read after the Fictionaut experience.
“Are you proud, Martin? They feel that!”
(Slaps black hat off bald head.)
“Yes, leave the series unfinished!”
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
Solarians with Stellar Armor can change the appearance of their armor once per level. If we go to 1938, Nissa will get a non-Valkyrie look. She’ll have whatever look until Lv.5.
I was planning to hold out until the next mission, since I thought it was pretty awesome that my valk look happened to fit the first episode. I thought I’d make my next costume fit first mission we go on at Lv.4, first at Lv.5, etc.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
Could Nissa’s armor be a shimmering gown?
I know Solarians can have metal plate, an aura or skin tight shimmering whatever—something like from Witchblade or Darkstalker’s Felicia where the nude form is covered. If the shimmer stuff can be tight on the upper body, but spread from the waist as a gown, I want a look that is reminiscent of this 1938 cigarette ad, but with Maude Lebowski’s bowling shoes.
(Sidenote: Maude’s entire outfit makes a great Solarian/Valkyrie armor. Maybe that’s the Lv.20 look?)
GM call if I can change the eyes and feathers, for a relatively subtle tell-tale sign of super powers (simultaneous with armor change, and still the same color changes and tears that resemble molten gold). If yes, feathers are a boa similar to yet another cigarette ad, not glowing but red-gold phoenix-feathers with the luminosity of a… lit cigarette. Eyes will be gold iris with pupils like a lit cigarette.
Tarren the Dungeon Master |
With time-travel games, I always say that you're provided with "period appropriate wardrobes" and let players choose, so absolutely you can have those shoes with that dress. I'm a little amused by the fact that Verve's like "hell no I'm not going to 1938" and you're like "Okay, so, what to wear ..."
I'm not sure where you'll be after 1938, but the dress seems timeless enough.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
The combo of stellar armor options and Clearweave armor makes Nissa a fun character. I actually prefer being stuck with one look.
The easy way out is to take the naked-with-aura option and wear visible clothing. For some reason I like Nissa as forcibly-clothed (except fairy mode), and yes, I think the look is timeless enough.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
About the chalice... should that go to Nissa? She has the pilot skill and actually flies the Bombshell.
I have gloves that add to piloting, but they don’t do us any good when Nissa’s microscopic.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |

Without going into detail, working on a personal project. I tried drawing Nissa with a look that’s somewhere between steampunk aviatrix and Duck Dodgers of the 24th and a Halfth Century.
(Posted while the iPad is still warm)
Her powers in this game inspired the gun’s only two settings: STUN and NUKE.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
She’s part of a team, all drawn this week—two drawn today!
(And if it’s not obvious, they were hastily cut from separate pics with backgrounds/foregrounds/lettering attached.)
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
Well, Pilot check or not, I nat.20’d on the check I did make. I will await the GM’s response to my check before having Nissa go into detail.
Also, my RP is down to 4/7 now. Will update later.
Nissa, the Subatomic Bombshell |
If my answer was unclear, I meant that Nissa probably recognizes this as being very much like Superman's origin story, just as her player might, but with some weird differences, like the child being green, and biting a Greek god, and becoming human. But, just as many of the details line up.
Mostly, I rolled for the in-game knowledge. I believe Theo is born in the 1950s, so it makes sense he would just know.
Nissa is into all the stuff a young model would have liked. I’d say +2 on your 0 to 4 scale. Maybe +4 for Wonder Woman and Batgirl, at least the DC Bombshell versions. And at some point after this mission, Nissa will read Shrinking Violet and wonder why she was not as well known as Ant Man and Wasp.
Verve |
Verve, despite being a sidekick, knows very little about that world. She knows some people in it, but she stayed out of the limelight for the most part.
