Updated with original position, taking account of the corrected rules. Unless you roll drastically badly, this fight is over.
The alchemists hedged on you using fire for their resist energy infusions, while reserving the spell immunity for ball lightning and confusion. Sadly they had no extra infusions against cold.
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
They had great defenses. Their Freedom of Movement shut down my Wall of Thorns and my character could have easily cast Ball Lightning if there were more of them.
Good thing I prepped Echolocation today. :)
Guys I say we parley. I want to finish the mission and not beat down on nameless assassins.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, Happy Holidays to all. Thank you for putting up with the rough patches and I hope to have us done in January so you can move on to your next adventure!
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
Guys I want to keep the scroll of resurrection in case we need it for the party. I definitely do not think it is wise to blow it on an evil npc mook so he can do more evil.
Also if Hamish is hell bent on whacking the Assassin I am alright with it. Just do it now while he is still blind. Ok? :)
@Grandmaster TOZ - Would you be open to GMing more seeker tier games after this one? Ideally I would love to get to play my 16th level characters but even continuing on with these characters would be great (like Tomb of the Iron Medusa or equivalent).
Grandmaster TOZ |
My schedule is not immediately open, but down the line is possible. The only problem is the much longer time frame of modules on PbP, which tends to lead to incompletion.
I don't really expect you to have an opportunity to use the scroll given the casting time. It's really there to fix the death attack if he gets it off.
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
Sure but better to have the scroll in your back pocket in case something else goes sideways latter in the adventure. :)
I don't think I really care for their line of narrative reasoning here. I am glad that we did not have to use it on Hamish this time.
In terms of modules. I guess picking one that is very straight forward and a little skimpy would work better considering it is PbP. I do get your point.
Grandmaster TOZ |
It's better than having one player sit out the rest of the game because they can't come back from a death attack. I'd rather Z's tactics have been different, but at this level it's laughably easy to avoid. Especially if you talk to the looter teams and learn of Z's presence before entering the Repository.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Counting three votes to accept the deal. If no one objects I will update tonight or tomorrow.
Yuri Twobeards |
Fine with me to accept the deal.

I'd be interested in continuing with Yuri after this finishes - he'll be at level 14 and I have a pile of replays now (as we all probably do). If TOZ doesn't have the bandwidth right now we could possibly do a GM rotation amongst ourselves, though personally I can't take on another GM table until later this spring.
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
I am very curious to know about Torch's involvement here. Is he a villain or simply just the jerk that we have all learned to love or hate? Time will tell.
Edit - Typically I would roll a sense motive for my character but I am deciding if I want to or not. Perhaps they should rename the scenario Putting out the Torch instead of Passing the Torch. ;)
Omrax the Bold |
Similar thoughts here. So just rolled sense motive to see if can glean anything
Yuri Twobeards |
Didn't he offer it to us? As part of the price for letting him go?
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
@Kasimir - I have the Resist Energy, Communal prepared. Do you want me to cast it now or wait? Also what element? Generally I choose Fire but Electricity could be a valid option as well considering the storm.
What is the game plan? Are we going to go from inside or fly to the top? We have the Eagles so people that are air walking, small or not great flyers can benefit.
Ideas?
Kasimir vonVang |
I marked off that I cast communal resist once, but it’s not on the tracking sheet. *sigh* I’ll go back through the thread when I can.
Between us, I think we want to do fire and lightning, they’re the most common.
Fly to the top?
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
@Kasimir - The duration of the scrolls of Death Ward is only 7 minutes so do we think that combat will happen immediately? I don't know so I asking your opinion.
I don't remember you casting Resist Energy, Communal yet but I will look through the thread myself when I am more alert.
Also the duration of my Shield of Faith, extended is still good (13/26 minutes remaining) as it was cast 22 minutes in. How about redirecting the spell to the Paladin? He needs it the most IMO.
@Hamish - Total wind Speed is actually 45 MPH as shown in the slides. The GM is only rolling a d20 to show the current wind speed. This prevents using Air Walk effectively.
Grandmaster TOZ |
You might have Speakers Notes hidden. Once you guys figure out your approach and have buffs updated, we'll go ahead.
Omrax the Bold |
Fine with it on Yuri. Omrax already has decent saves and many immunities. His deathless armor will also help.
Yuri Twobeards |
So do we have resist energy for both fire and electricity? Or only one of them?
I'm not sure we ever clarified whether or not we can dim door into the tower or not. If not, we should probably wait until we are closer before casting death ward, since it's only 1 minute/level.
Speaking of minute/level spells, Hamish cast Enlarge Person on Yuri when we entered the room with the fog. Is it still active or has it expired? If it's expired, Yuri offers a pearl of power (I) to Hamish for him to recast it, unless being large size will prevent him from being able to move with the group to the tower (if we are relying on the eagles that might make him too large for them to carry - but perhaps he can air walk if he's large? and it all might be moot if we are using dim door... GM, any guidance?).
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
@Yuri - You currently have resistance 30 from both Fire and Electricity.
Assuming that the Gull is now size Huge perhaps you can ride him (get the appropriate hat from Hamish)? It would be possible to cast Overland Flight on your character as well but your Fly skill would be incredibly poor considering the wind, armor,Large Size etc. If you had to make a check it would be scary bad.
I think that we should keep the Dimension Door scroll as we might actually need it for a plot related reason. Generally at this level you would have at least two players who have it either prepared or as a spell known but we are lacking a traditional arcane caster in the party (no Wizard,Sorcerer,Bard or Magus).
Grandmaster TOZ |
I don’t see the party on the map slide, while we also haven’t heard from Bombshell in over a week.
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
Good point. I added four giant eagles (ok enlarged hawks but it was the best I could find) and my character as an Air Elemental to the board. Whisper is travelling in his protective case in my character's backpack.
As for Bombshell I guess we can give him some time. Officially the holidays are over but realistically it is still the holidays until next week.
People add your figures to the slide please and board an eagle if you like.
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
It is Ride for you and fly for your mount.
However you generally do not need to make ride checks unless you take damage or want to do special ride maneuvers. You will generally have to keep one hand on the eagle unless you succeed at a DC 5 ride check.
You are also riding bareback so add 5 to all ride checks. You can also have the eagle carry you in a claw. No rolls required.
Note that the mount will move on your turn using its actions but may need to make its own fly checks (at +8 Fly). Again assuming nothing fancy (check Fly skill) there is no check required. Fancy includes hovering, moving less than 1/2 movement etc. The good thing is that you get to move without any of your own actions. You also have Air Walk up as a backup so falling is not really a problem.
Omrax the Bold |
Added Omrax on an Eagle. Should be ready to go. Will potentially have short buffs once we are closer to entry.
Driving the remainder of our trip home tomorrow (rain and traffic through Atlanta were a mess)
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
@Kasimir - The giant eagles understand Auran and have an Int of 10. Out of combat you can just tell it where to go by pointing or speaking to it. In combat you will need to use the ride skill as you are considered to be mounted and it goes on your initiative. Generally just riding requires no checks as long as you keep one hand on the mount.
The GM might disagree but that is my take on it.
Grandmaster TOZ |
I’m usually more interested in getting class skill bonuses in Climb and Swim for those rare emergencies that Ride, have to admit.
If you’re not using the Ride skill, the eagles are going to have separate initiatives and will have to complete their turns before or after your PCs turns without readied action weirdness. Probably much less headspace to use the Ride rules or dismount.
Mage of the Wyrmkin |
A good riding ability really is for pet classes so they can ride their pet and get a fun +4 AC cover bonus whenever they want (Ride DC 15 check). At low levels it allows flight with Mauler familiars or Roc AC. Overall a great skill but extremely niche. Only my Druids know how to ride.
However weird things happen in PFS like Druids with UMD and Clerics with ride. The skills do come up.
Omrax the Bold |
Omrax is using his mighty +1 Ride skill for as much effect as possible. :)
Yuri Twobeards |
Sorry, I've been traveling and only able to check in intermittently, so it's possible that I've missed important stuff. Is Yuri still Large (either because the earlier cast from Hamish when we first entered the room with all the mist has not yet expired, or because Hamish has recast it on him (Yuri had offered a pearl of power for that purpose))? If he can ride on the Gull (now Huge, I think?) then it would be great to be Large heading in to this next thing. Otherwise, if he needs to ride an Eagle then it would be better for him to be his usual Medium size. I've placed his icon on the map slide, Large and on the Gull, but will revise that depending on the answer to these questions. Also, it may be that if he's Large he can simply Air Walk himself?
