Just realized that a quest grants 2 days of Downtime. It doesn't look like this can be used to Earn Income, because that requires a minimum of 8 days, and days cannot be "stockpiled" from adventure to adventure.
So I guess that leaves us only with Crafting? And you need to buy a Formula Book and Artisan's Tools to craft, right? Then, since Crafting requires that you spend the first 4 days of a block of Downtime preparing before attempting your check to Craft, I guess this 1d20 ⇒ 20 is of no use =(
Thorax will purchase a formula picture-book and artisan's tools and spend 2 of 4 days crafting a set of Thieve's Tools (Infiltrator).

Are you sure Earn Income requires a minimum of 8 days? The guide says: Player Basics wrote: For each 8 day unit of Downtime you spend (including units where you complete multiple activities, such as spending 7 days retraining and then 1 day Earning Income), you attempt one check to Earn Income, using the result to calculate your total earnings for that block of Downtime. so presumably if you have fewer than 8 days available you can still Earn Income (and just earn less because you're working fewer days).

We don't get an 8 day unit to spend, though, and the 2 days can't be "stockpiled".
Also I may have been incorrect about the Formula Book. Since the tools are a Common item, I think I just need a Crafting Book.

I guess that's a reasonable interpretation. It feels like it should say "For each 8 day unit (or fraction thereof)" or something like that, because it would be really weird if Crafting is the only way to use downtime from quests.

Well, the entire Games Day was pushed back two weeks, because scenarios didn't drop for GMs; consequently, the new 'official' start date is September 9th. I have been told that I am not allowed to start early :-/

Question for you, then. Apparently nobody knows for sure whether Quests grant the opportunity to Earn Income. The Guide currently doesn't allow for it (one interpretation), but several GMs who were present at GenCon say that you can (the other interpretation).
How would you rule it, and if you believe that you can Earn Income after a Quest, can I use the 20 that I rolled earlier?
If you have the requisite number of DT available, sure.

That's the debate. Whether two days is "requisite".
For the record, I don't think it is, but enough people argue that it is that I'm not sure what the intention is.

At PacifiCon this weekend one of my Starfinder tables didn't go off, so I sat down to a session of #1-00: Origin of the Open Road and applied that Chronicle to this character. Here is my updated sign-in:

My GM was very insightful on the whole Earned Income debate. They suggested I stick with Crafting, because you save more money on the item you're making than what you would have made with Earn Income.
For example, with Earn Income, I would have made a few copper pieces per day, but with crafting I save 5sp/day. I rolled a successful Crafting check to make my Thieves Tools, and saved 3gp. For my next Downtime I'll end up saving 4gp, and will just keep going until I've saved 25gp (half the cost of the Thieves Tools).

Quick question: should we be rolling for all four NPCs at once, or focusing on one in particular and seeing how that goes before moving on?
Also, would the rest of the group know what Thorax discovered about how best to influence the NPCs?
Heh. Well, technically, for story-flow purposes, it would be better if they were done individually, but I was happy to roll with what Thorax did.

Sorry my my lack of checking in. I had an 8hr meeting at work and took critical mental damage in the process.
Heal and Harm are 2 of my three level 1 known spells. I think disruptive weapon could be rather helpful if we see undead, but so can heal.
I would vote for Heal as it's helpful against taking damage too instead of just beneficial vs undead.
Unfortunately, the PF2 scenarios aren't on the PbP Gameday reporting sheet yet (I have made a post asking for clarification on why), so I can't report this game.
In the interim, would people be interested in another game? Say, 1-03: Escaping the Grave? I swear that there will be some actual combat in that one ;-)

Quests are being released individually now (one per month, I believe is the intended schedule), not as packs of four :-/

He is encumbered if he has to carry his Shortbow. Can someone carry his Climbing Kit for this mission? It's 1 Bulk. Otherwise, he'll leave his Shortbow at home as well.

It is interesting to see how different tables vary in their approaches - the last time I ran this, the first person to act 'Leeroy Jenkins'ed' the encounter, charging forward; they were promptly swarmed by all of the enemies, and the rest of the party had to fight hard to stop them being eaten by the horse...
