Timtenzekil Tengentrail |
"I'm gonna go say hi." comes the answer. Sliding down the wall, he sidles into the room with the strange men. "So. Hi. My name's Timtenzekil, but there are some what call me...Tim." He approximates a grin with vaguely tooth shaped rocks.
Readied action to throw Slowing Mud all over them if they attack. Fort save DC19.

Warpac: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 darkvision 60 ft.
Timtenzekil is glad he is able to Earthglide, for in his normal form it would have been a tight squeeze getting through that tunnel.
The walls of this breathtaking cavern glitter with clear crystals. To the north are a few small tables stacked with supplies, while a field cot sits to the southeast. Additional folded bedrolls lie nearby, and a large chair next to a small writing desk rests before the wall opposite the only entrance.
There is a woman standing beside the desk who straightens up as Timtenzekil enters. It looks like she was quickly writing something down.
“Greetings, Tim! My name is Abtaroh Vorenic. My impulsive guard Elbris” she gestures towards the Cultist “seems to have made a poor impression for which I apologize.”
“I was just in the process of writing out an invitation, but it seems that is not necessary.”
“What pray tell brings you here to visit?”
Picture of her added to Slide 3.
Timtenzekil Tengentrail |
"Investigative work." Tim responds, stepping out of the wall and folding his earthen arms behind him. "Missing persons, strange portents. Tha rest o' my companions will be 'ere in a minute, fell afoul o' your defenses. They're a bit more well-spoken than an enforcer the likes o' me."
GM Bret |
Timtenzekil moves out of your sight. Most of you can hear him saying hello to someone and them replying.

Warpac |
"Anyone care to let down a rope from up there?" he calls out.
GM Bret |
Mongo quickly follows Melody across the bridge, then finds he is too big to fit comfortably through the tunnel. He has no space to get past Melody, and even moving through it is a tight squeeze!
Adjusted your position. You are Squeezed and all movement is halved.
Just after Warpac calls out for a rope, you hear another noise come from the bottom of the pit.

What does Warpac see? Can I roll a knowledge roll Trying to decide whether to fight it out or just take the fly potion and get out of there (if it will let him).
GM Bret |
You originally saw a scythe dripping with slime come slicing towards you.
Now you see animate slime in a large pool gathering up to strike you with pseudopods. It still has brown and orange coloration. You would guess it is an ooze rather than a slime, it covers a 10’ x 10’ area and looks like it has reach.
Warpac |
"Well, what have we got here? Someone up there know what this thing is?"
Warpac casts a shield of faith and activates sacred armor as a swift action and goes on all out defense.
Current AC) 35, flat-footed 33, touch 19
GM Bret |
Warpac: Sorry, could you please step me through those actions. Seems like you spent too many by my understanding.
Total Defense is a Standard Action normally.
Sacred Armor can be done with Sacred Weapon in which case it is free. Otherwise isn’t it a swift?
Casting a spell is a Standard Action or a Swift Action if you use a fervor.
I may have something wrong, but either you used two Swift actions or two Standard actions.
GM Bret |
Was hoping to catch Warpac right a way, seems that didn’t happen. Moving on, but I would still like an answer to the above question.
Abtaroh looks towards the tunnel as everyone hears the screeching of adamantine scraping against the tunnel walls. “Sorry about the narrow corridors.”
Moving over to the table with supplies, she asks “Seems you are willing to talk. Would you like some tea? How about your companions?”
Waving at the supplies, she says “I do have to apologize, we don’t have all the proper settings out here in the field.”
She seems pleasant enough.
The man just stands off to the side, nervously watching Timtenzekil.
Bolded may act.

They look down and try to see what they can see. Warpac, everything okay? Do you want rope? Tycho, being deaf, would not have been able to hear Warpac's call for rope earlier, but would have surmised that rope would be a good idea.

What was I thinking. I also was not aware that the thing was right on top of me when I cast the spell. So let's just change that to a swift action to cast shield of faith and a standard action to do the full defense thing. He will not have the sacred armor going yet and his AC will be one less than quoted..
GM Bret |
Tycho moves to the end of the bridge taking out some rope as he looks down. He can see Warpac in a defensive stance below him.

Seeing no active threat in the room and hearing Warpac's call for help, Mongo moves back toward the bridge. When he sees the scene before him, he reaches out and takes the end of the rope from Tycho. Assuming Tycho is willing, Mongo is probably a better option to anchor it than the slight illusionist. I'm never quite sure whether that takes an action; if not then he will ready to pull Warpac up once he's grabbed the rope.
Melody Mersenne |
Melody delays to figure out what to do.
GM Bret |
I would say it should take an action to tie off a rope. It used to be defined back when Use Rope was a skill.
Mongo goes back and ties off the rope for Warpac.
Timtenzekil is in the middle of a discussion, so I assume he will not do anything that affects the combat between Warpac and the ooze.
The ooze strikes at Warpac, but misses. He can hear the sizzle of the acid as it slimes the rock wall.
slam: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Slam damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 = 11
Acid damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
As it tries to slam Warpac, Theodric’s spell targets what he can see of the creature.
To quickly move through this, I’m going to assume no one is going to start hostilities with Elbris the Cultist and Abtaroh. We will drop out of melee rounds as soon as the situation between Warpac and Axe is resolved.

Grab the rope and hold on tight, Warpac! Mongo, throw the rope down and get ready to pull when I say "go!"
Tycho readies to cast a spell, once Warpac has gripped the rope Mongo is holding.
DC 24 will save to disbelieve; DC 22 reflex save to not fall in. If they disbelieve the spell still has a 20% chance of occurring anyway, because shadows are partially real.
If the creature falls: Go!
Warpac |
Warpac activates sacred armor as a swift actions and latches onto the rope, remaining on full defense.
"Ready! This thing looks hungry. Er... Acts hungry."
GM Bret |
Warpac grabs the rope with one hand and gives the signal toTycho. Tycho creates a pit at the bottom of the pit.
Will: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
Reflex: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
Falling plus spikes: 5d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 3, 1) + (6, 2) = 29
It violently splashes against the floor. Those who believe the illusion see it plummet into a spiked pit. Those who don’t are very confused about how it took so much damage.
Warpac: Since it might matter, please give me a Will save to see if you believe the illusion. Also, is your free hand the one with the weapon or the shield?
Bolded may act.

definitely the weapon. He usually does not walk around with it out since he can draw it for free when he moves and he likes to start of a fight with a move and a spell and you cannot do the spell with a weapon in one hand and a shield in the other.
GM Bret |
Mongo pulls Warpac up using the rope.
Theodric’s Summon completes and there is a very short battle before the ooze squashes it. Theodric does during that time get a good view of the creature. The creature seems content to stay in the pit.
Unless someone objects, we will move out of combat.
Meanwhile in the crystal cavern Abtaroh is using making tea.
Looking to Timtenzekil, she asks “Would you mind if I cheat and use magic to heat it? I fear out here in the field I only have the one blend of tea.”
Looking slightly embarrassed, she says “I hadn’t thought there would be an occasion to entertain any guests.”
Theodric Milan |
Theodric's brave eagle provides a bit of distraction to help get Warpac out of the pit before poofing back to wherever it came from.
"You okay Warpac?" Theodric asks as he checks over his companion for any lingering acid burns.
Mongo DePon |
"Up ya go!" Mongo hauls on the rope until Warpac is to the surface, then hands Tycho back their rope.
Melody Mersenne |
Once it's established that Warpac is all right, Melody moves in to talk to the new acquaintances.
"Oh, whatever you have is fine! We're used to making do on the road. But please, tell us about yourselves. Who are you? What are you doing here?"
Timtenzekil Tengentrail |
Looking to Timtenzekil, she asks “Would you mind if I cheat and use magic to heat it? I fear out here in the field I only have the one blend of tea.”
Looking slightly embarrassed, she says “I hadn’t thought there would be an occasion to entertain any guests.”
"Yer warnin' is appreciated." Tim nods. "I know a bit about spells, be warned, so no funny business."
GM Bret |
Just as Timtenzekil gives her permission, Melody joins those in the cavern.
Looking towards the halfling, Abtaroh says “Pleased to meet you. I am Abtaroh Vorenic.”
She then starts back on the tea, only to a moment later glare at the man also there until he answers. “Elbris.”
Pretty easy to tell who needs work on their people skills!
She says a quick spell over the cups of tea.
She then straightens and takes her own cup.
One of the cups lifts itself and floats over to Timtenzekil. Once he has taken it, a different cup floats over to Melody.
As others enter, Abtaroh exchanges names and offers tea to them as well. If any of you have weapons out, she does request that you sheath them.
As the fifth person enters, she says “My goodness! Just how many of you are there?”
Mongo DePon |
Mongo accepts the tea with a nod, the cup comically small in his large hands. "Um...thanks." He seems like he's about to say something more, but decides better of it. Drink your tea and let that talkers do the talking.
Warpac |
"You okay Warpac?" Theodric asks as he checks over his companion for any lingering acid burns.
"Wasn't even scratched. Thanks for saving me the use of a fly potion. Dang things are expensive."
Waqrpac brings up the rear after giving the ooze a last look, wondering if they feed it regularly and what.
Deep in thought he doesn't notice the tea until it almost hits him in the face. He gingerly takes it out of the air and sets it down.
"Mind if I cast a little cantrip. I hope you won't be offended but I always check my food and drink before imbibing."
Provided he is given the go-ahead he casts detect poion on it before drinking. Otherwise he does not drink.
A sense motive will show that he is telling the truth. He does always cast detect poison on things before consuming.
Unaware that the party has trickeld in he wonders, Can't the fellow count? Or does Mango confuse him?

"Mind if I cast a little cantrip. I hope you won't be offended but I always check my food and drink before imbibing."
“Hmm?” Abtaroh says, looking over to Warpac. Then with a dismissive wave she replies “Oh, no problem at all! I know many who have at various times felt the need for a taste tester or used magic in that way!”
A sense motive will show that he is telling the truth. He does always cast detect poison on things before consuming.

Theodric decides to join the tea party, nodding politely while leaving mango on the far side of the pit, on guard on the off chance the ooze starts making its way up.
If offered Theodric will drink the tea provided "Your hospitality is greatly appreciated. Please let me replenish your stores twice fold what you have given us freely."
Theodric purchased 12.5 lbs of ceremonial tea (1gp worth) about a dozen or so adventures ago. Considering it takes about 2grams to make a cup, I imagine I've got plenty although admit to not tracking my use.

GM Bret |
Dang! I had forgotten you were in Cultist form....
As Tycho enters, Abtaroh gives them a strange look. While she is still trying to figure out what is happening, Tycho changes into Leeara.
No tea for you, Tycho! :)
“Well, that is quite the talent! I fear you may have gotten the wrong impression though.” Abtaroh says. “I am not a bad woman.”
“I am curious though, were any of my minions there with her? I’m missing a couple...one of whom they were disguised as.” She points at ‘Leeara’ aka Tycho as she adds that last bit.
....or we could just roll for Initiative. I very nearly did with that entrance.
The One Known as Tycho |
Tycho is about to happily say “I killed them!” but decides to wait and see what their friends want to do here. They just smile inanely instead...
Mongo DePon |
Mongo, puzzled, scratches his head. Does she mean the ones we found dead?
GM Bret |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
“Why certainly, I would be glad to explain!”
She plays the monologue card.
“It all started with a vision I received from The Emissary from Beyond! Our family has been waiting generations for such a vision, and it was I the Emissary chose!” She seems quite proud of this.
“The visions guided me and my followers here to Dustpawn. While here, we have been gathering the materials to allow others to join in a new age. With the substance we create, we make the people better...” Pointing to Tycho, she says “If that is what the girl looks like now she is well on her way to a new and better life!”
With a gleam in her eye she says “Surely you can see the improvements in her! The changes seem to affect each person differently, but all are improved!”
“When The Emissary arrives, we will be able to spread this enlightenment everywhere!”
Warpac |
Warpac looks grimly and stubbornly at the nutty professor.
"I like my body. It is a sturdy example of dwarven excellence. You cannot improve upon what the gods designed. And from what I saw, your transformed test subjects are NOT what I want to become. Did you ask them before you started the transformation?"
