The One Known as Tycho |
Confusion effect: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Tycho shifts form, becoming the inkeeper Dalviss.
HA! This is for feeding me that awful stew I cooked!
Dalviss revenges themself upon themself with a dagger to the leg. piercing: 1d8 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
Theodric Milan |
prescience: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Theodric looks to Tycho as he backs off "Are you okay?"
Theodric slips his wand of obscuring mist into his hand as he back pedals from Tycho, hesitating before filling the room with fog.
ready to obscuring mist if Tycho tries to take an aggressive action.
Warpac |
I was rather hoping Mongo would take him down.
With a mumbled apology, Warpac starts taking the poor blind fellow to pieces with his axe.
To hit Dwarven Double Waraxe, haste, uinspired, prayer: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 1 + 2 + 2 = 24

Timtenzekil Tengentrail |
Seeing Tycho acting strangely, Timtenzekil reaches out to restrain them. "I've seen this afore, no good comes o' it."
Grapple on Tycho, Haste, Inspire, Prayer: 1d20 + 13 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 13 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 21
Warpac |
I assume these attacks are against the staggered Abtaroh?
With his first strike, Warpac hits Abtaroh and knocks her unconscious.
Tell me if you want to continue hitting her after she falls unconscious.
Correct, and no Warpac does not want to butcher her.
GM Bret |
You can easily bind the two cultists.
Checking his equipment, you find Elbris has potion of cure moderate wounds, potion of glibness, scroll of disguise self, scroll of invisibility, scroll of fireball, scroll of phantom steed, wand of magic missile (CL 5th, 10 charges), mwk dagger, amulet of natural armor +1, 11 gold and a spellbook.
His spellbook has the following spells:
phantom steed, vampiric touch, arcane lock, fog cloud, invisibility, misdirection, scorching ray, summon monster II, charm person (DC 13), grease, Identify, hold portal, mage armor, summon monster I and all cantrips from CRB.
Abtaroh has +1 human bane bolts (10), potions of cure moderate wounds (2), wand of mirror image (10 charges), a toxin (4 doses), dagger, light crossbow with 10 normal bolts, amulet of natural armor +1, belt of mighty constitution +2, efficient quiver, headband of alluring charisma +2, 250 pp, 172 gp
Room contents still to come.
Warpac |
None of the loot interests Warpac. He either has the slot filled or cannot use the item effectively. As always,
"Stick whatever you don't want in my bag here. Plenty of room... touchy fellow, wasn't he. Hopefully he will spill the beans about this emissary."
The One Known as Tycho |
Nothing jumps out at Tycho, but they will hold any leftover wands/scrolls from the cleric list; they also have strong UMD.
Tycho shifts back into Leeara, but continues to speak in Dalviss's voice.
Scrambled the old grey matter more usual haha! I think I am better…
As they tap their wounded leg with a wand, they look to the others in the group. Do you feel like you just ate some of Dalviss' stew when you exert yourself?
CLW (Wand): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Mongo DePon |
Mongo considers for a moment before replying. "Didn't think much of it in the heat o' battle and all, but I guess I did feel a bit queasy when I ran her over just then. Bappin' her with the sword wasn't so bad, though."
Theodric Milan |
Theodric will take the wand of mirror image. At a later time when convenient he'll copy the following into his spell book:
90gp Phantom Steed
40gp Arcane Lock
40gp Fog Cloud
40gp Invisibility
40gp Summon Monster II
250gp (take 10 spellcraft is enough to copy them, even if sickened)
GM Bret |
Those of you interested in rocks spend a short time examining the natural crystals in this chamber. The crystals do not look like they were ever mined. While beautiful, the crystals by themselves are relatively worthless rock crystals.
The tables to the north hold a number of alchemical and magical supplies. There is a full alchemist’s lab and 4,500 gp in miscellaneous magical supplies and ingredients useful for crafting wondrous items.
You find another 5 doses of the toxin that Abtaroh had with her. While checking for magic, you notice that the toxin is magical. Some of the toxin is still in powdered form while the rest is a sticky paste suitable for use on a weapon.
There are also three more magical spheres here. Each radiates a moderate magical aura.
The small writing desk contains a journal written in Aklo. There appear to be extensive notes and you recognize some alchemical symbols mixed in with the text. You estimate it would take a normal reader a few hours to go through the journal assuming they knew the language.
The inside back cover of the journal contains a map of the region. There is a location marked on it in Aklo.
Melody Mersenne |
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Knowledge (geography): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
"Why, look at this! It's everything you need to distill magical toxins. And we have more planets! This is Aucturn, this is Triaxus, and this one is us! It's Golarian!"
Warpac |
"That's intereseting, but why? Why magical maps of these planets? Can you tell what they are for? And can anyone figure out what these poisons do? Since I happen to be among those that have been poisoned, I'm curious if it is the same thing or similar."
Speaking of which, are we felling any effects? Does Warpac's detect poison cantrip still detect poison on any of the party members? Do his shoulders itch like he is growing wings?
"What do you say we feed the toxins to that ooze? Mix it in with a little food and see what happens!"
GM Bret |
Speaking of which, are we felling any effects? Does Warpac's detect poison cantrip still detect poison on any of the party members? Do his shoulders itch like he is growing wings?
You can do the Wisdom check to try and identify the poison via Detect Poison, use Craft Alchemy or Heal to try to find out more based on what you see, find a way to read the journal written in Aklo and spend a few hours going through that material, or some other method that I may not have anticipated to get more information.
Detect Poison still detects something in Mongo, Tycho, Theodric, and Warpac. It also detects in the magical toxins.
If Warpac’s shoulders itch or sprout wings, it isn’t because of anything done on my part. How good are you at transformation magic?
Also, no one has tried the Knowledge Arcana or Spellcraft from Detect Magic on the spheres or toxin.
Might want to gather what you already know or suspect in the player notes.
Melody Mersenne |
I think Tycho and Theodric had better spellcraft, but Melody will try with her wand of identify if they don't get it.
Warpac |
Using his detect poison and good old fashioned priest know how, Warpac tries to figure out the poison.
heal to figure out poison effects: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Warpac is no expert, but he does dabble in spellcraft and gives understanding the toxin from a magical point of view his best shot.
spellcraft toxins: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
And while he is at it he figures he should give the spheres a second look
spellcraft spheres: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
The One Known as Tycho |
Tycho holds up their wand of Identify… but too late. Just use Tycho's wand. That's what it's there for!
Tycho tries their hand at these items, with the knowledge that they were difficult to identify before i.e. not taking 10…
Spellcraft, Detect Magic, Guidance, Identify, spheres: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
Spellcraft, Detect Magic, Guidance, Identify, toxin: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
If we still haven't ID'd these things Tycho will lend the wand to Theodric, whose the best at Spellcraft in this group.
GM Bret |
Looking over the equipment, materials and poison samples Warpac thinks that the poisons include a magical curse in them. The sticky paste is made by mixing the powder with blood and reagents.
He does not recognize what the primary ingredient is, but knows it would be challenging to treat. It is very persistent and can affect anyone that isn’t immune to both poisons and curses. Once the curse has completely taken hold, it would be nearly impossible to cure the afflicted. He suspects that the sickness some have felt is a symptom of the magical toxin taking hold.
Once the curse has completed, he doesn’t think the poison would be detected any longer.
It takes separate checks for each sphere. In this case, which sphere you identified didn’t matter because it was a failure.
Warpac attempts to identify one of the spheres, but can’t figure it out.
GM Bret |
Which of the three spheres were you trying to idenitfy there, Tycho?
When Tycho examines the poison using his wand, he confirms that the toxin includes a curse in it, The sickness and confusion he has felt is a minor curse caused by a more dilute version of this poison. He thinks it can also cause the victims to be ill-tempered and susceptible to further effects. He can not tell at this time what those further effects are.
The One Known as Tycho |
ahh, they're all different! My bad. How about Sphere 1. I'll roll for the other two was well.
Spellcraft, Detect Magic, Guidance, Identify, Sphere 2: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
Spellcraft, Detect Magic, Guidance, Identify, Sphere 3: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
GM Bret |
Tycho is able to identify all three of the spheres.
The one representing Aucturn can be triggered for Confusion at caster level 11, can hold two charges, there is some way to recharge it, and it currently does not have any charges remaining.
The one representing Golarian can be triggered for Resilient Sphere at caster level 11, can hold a single charge, there is some way to recharge it, and it currently does not have any charges remaining.
The one representing Triaxus can be triggered for Teleport at caster level 11, can hold a single charge, there is some way to recharge it, and it currently does not have any charges remaining.
There appears to be a theme here with the four spheres. You suspect whatever recharges them will do it for all four of the devices.
Timtenzekil Tengentrail |
"What do you say we feed the toxins to that ooze? Mix it in with a little food and see what happens!"
"No expert, but I'd imagine it does as little ta it as it does ta me." Tim opines. Gliding back into the wall as the team works, he watches with the patience of stone. "So we've got poisonous curses, transmutations o' humanoid folk, an' planetary symbology? Am I understandin' right?"
Mongo DePon |
"So, um...what do we do about this cursed poison? Find a temple? Tough it out?"
The One Known as Tycho |
Tycho is trying to juggle the spheres. Should we ask Abtaroh?
dexterity: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 The little planets fall to the floor, bouncing and rolling about.
Tycho is fascinated by the spheres and seems to forget about the poison and curse. They also try rubbing the spheres together, singing them a lullaby, they spitting on them and then polishing them, pricking their finger with a fishook and dribbling blood on them, and casting Light on one of them.
Theodric Milan |
Theodric adds "If we can find a written copy of remove curse given some time I can cast it myself."
Theodric looks to Warpac for his healing abilities as well.
The One Known as Tycho |
If we can find a written copy of remove curse given some time I can cast it myself.
Tycho pauses as they bleed a finger. A copy of remove curse? For study? Here.
Tycho reaches into their haversack and hands Theodric their scroll of remove curse before dribbling more bodily fluid onto the sphere of Aucturn.
Theodric Milan |
Theodric pulls out a pinch of clotting herbs from his bag and hands it to Tycho in exchange for the scroll.
I can learn remove curse, although the scroll isn't necessarily the most efficient way. Warpac can potentially memorize remove disease assuming we need the pair.
GM Bret |
Looking through the mundane equipment, you realize they have enough bedrolls for eleven people. Based on the placement of other items, one of those belongs to Abtaroh. There is also about a month’s worth of food supplies here, but only about one days worth of water. They have enough containers for a couple of days worth of water, but only enough is stored for one day — the additional containers are empty.
The One Known as Tycho |
There was another branch of the cave, shall we explore?
Warpac |
"We should. It would be ironic if the cure for the poison was stored next door and we never even took a look. Besides, what is the first word of our motto?"
Warpac heads on over to the other cave after making sure the captives are well secured.
Melody Mersenne |
"Yes, let's see what's over there!" Melody has regained some of her normal exuberance.

As you get to the sharp turn in the tunnel, the temperature drops suddenly as a clammy breeze wafts up from the branching tunnels around this chamber.
It looks like you don’t have Speak with Master because of prestige class not advancing Familiars abilities. Correct me if you have something more than Empathic Link.
Warpac |
"More company and more bodies. Ready yourselves and everyone we bump into seems quick to anger."
And with that Warpac casts Bull's Strength on himself (unless we are already in init in which case he may do other things).
GM Bret |
As Warpac makes his pronouncement, Theodric’s danger sense activates. He doesn’t see a threat, but he has that feeling he associates with an attempted ambush.
