Warpac |
Warpac hates undead and particularly incorporeal ones. He activates his sacred weapon as a swift action, granting it ghost touch. He finds he is unable to activate the sacred armor or the second bonus to his sacred weapon because of the level drain. He lashes out with his axe as he feels his life slipping away.
To hit Dwarven Double Waraxe: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 - 2 = 18
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Iterative to hit Dwarven Double Waraxe: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 11 - 2 - 5 = 17
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
GM Bret |
Warpac: It is only spells and things bases directly on class level that are reduced. You don’t lose class features. You can activate your armor and weapon at the same time.
On the other hand, it was a surprise round so only a single action. In writing this, I realized that I also had flubbed that. I will fix that below.
Lastly, Red is inside a wall. You can’t attack it unless you ready an action.
I will assume you used your class abilities on your weapon and armor during the surprise round.
Warpac sees the undead approach and gets ready to fight incorporeal creatures.
Minor RetCon: They moved during the surprise round, now the attacks happen.
Red and Green attack Warpac and Mongo,
Bolded may act.
Round 1:
Red 10 temp HP in the wall
Green 10 temp HP
Melody
Warpac 5 damage 2 negative levels
Timtenzekil
Tycho
Mongo 3 damage 2 negative levels
Penny
Round 2:
Theodric
The One Known as Tycho |
Tycho pulls out their scroll of Anti-incorporeal shell and activates it.
Come inside!
Warpac |
I will assume you used your class abilities on your weapon and armor during the surprise round.
Actually, no. I do not get a swift on a surprise round, so instead he will do a divine favor in the surprise round and do the sacred stuff as a swift on his normal round adding ghost touch and vicious. On his normal round he will pound them with an additional +3 to hit and damage and an extra 2d6 vicious.
Combat adjustments:
To hit Dwarven Double Waraxe: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 - 2 + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 3 = 21
vicious damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
vicious feedback: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Iterative to hit Dwarven Double Waraxe: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 11 - 2 - 5 + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 3 = 16
vicious damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
vicious feedback: 1d6 ⇒ 6
OK. I might not get vicious as I'm not sure if the second ability is allowed witht he level drain, and I may need to ready an action to attack and only get the first attack when the spectre leaves the wall.
Warpac |
Ninja'd me. Consider it a readied attack and I should only get the first one.
GM Bret |
Tycho uses a spell to keep the undead away from him. You can see the edge of a shimmering field stretched out 10’ around him.
Warpac gets ready to hit the next spectre that comes in his reach!
Bolded may act.
Round 1:
Red 10 temp HP in the wall
Green 10 temp HP
Melody
Warpac 5 damage 2 negative levels readied attack
Timtenzekil
Tycho
Mongo 3 damage 2 negative levels
Penny
Round 2:
Theodric
Mongo DePon |
"Ugh." Mongo's shoulders slump as some of his vitality is drained away. Realizing he's in a bad spot between the two creatures, he steps to the side and attacks the exposed one.
+1 adamantine longsword vs. green, Power Attack, 2 neg levels: 1d20 + 15 - 3 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 15 - 3 - 2 = 15
Damage, Power Attack: 1d8 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 6 = 17
+1 adamantine longsword (iterative) vs. green, Power Attack, 2 neg levels: 1d20 + 10 - 3 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 - 3 - 2 = 19
Damage, Power Attack: 1d8 + 7 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 6 = 17
Swift action for Armored Vigor: 4 temp hp. Attacks potentially affected by what Melody does.
Melody Mersenne |
Melody starts up a familiar cheer. ”We’ve beaten ghosts before; we’ll beat these ones, too!” She does a little twirl as she touches Warpac. ”You’ve got this!”
Start up a bardic performance, cast heroism on Warpac, and five foot step away!
Timtenzekil Tengentrail |
"Penny, guard them!" Timtenzekil barks, pointing to Tycho. Melding with the wall, he circles around the tunnel, emerging on the far side of the deathly passage. Forming a sphere of ice, he chucks it at Mongo's dance partner, but sends it directly into the wall with a earthen curse in Terran.
Ranged Touch on Green: 1d20 ⇒ 2 Not even looking up the bonuses, can't even be close.
GM Bret |
Melody gives Warpac a little extra boost and starts up her cheer.
Will give the bonus on his attack. Also gave it to Mongo.
Mongo hits Green twice.
Timtenzekil shows that they aren’t the only ones able to move through solid stone. Unfortunately his spell missed.
Penny goes to guard Tycho.
Bolded may act.
Round 1:
Inspire Courage +2
Red 10 temp HP in the wall
Green 8 damage 0 temp HP
Melody
Warpac 5 damage 2 negative levels Readied Attack
Timtenzekil
Tycho
Mongo 3 damage 2 negative levels 4 temp HP
Penny
Round 2:
Theodric
Theodric Milan |
Theodric draws forth a rod and bobs and weaves as he fires a pair of empowered fiery rays point blank into the visible spectre.
casting defensively: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
The ranged attacks still provoke, am fighting defensively, giving me an incorporeal touch AC of 23
fighting defensivly rays into melee (touch): 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 = 23
fire damage: 4d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 5) + 2 = 22 Empowered/Incorporeal= 16 damage
fighting defensivly rays into melee (touch): 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 = 16
fire damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 3) = 13 Empowered/Incorporeal= 9 damage
Then the knife flies into the alcove opposite Mongo and stabs into the ghost.
stabbity: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 2 = 29
force damage: 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + (5, 3) = 9
GM Bret |
Theodric casts his spell successfully but feels sickened as he does.
Missed it, but Warpac and Tycho were also sickened after their actions. That is two actions that caused Sickened for Warpac and Theodric and one for Tycho.
As Theodric sends the bolts of fire at the spectre it makes a pathetic attempt to strike back. Not even close!
Incorporeal Touch: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Looks like the Bardic Performance was figured into the attacks.
The first ray hits, but the second barely misses. The dagger also strikes true.
Red flails again at Warpac. As he sees the hand come out, Warpac hits it in spite of the queezy feeling he has.
The spectre strikes at the wrong spot!
Incorporeal Touch: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5 Would have hit if not for concealment. The divine armor doesn’t help because it enhances the armor it ignores.
Blind, 51+ hits: 1d100 ⇒ 8
Blind Fight: 1d100 ⇒ 30
Green yells out “Get out of wall you fool! We got trespassers ta got rid of!” It then turns to the one using the fancy knife and claws at Theodric.
Incorporeal Touch: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
“Git out!” You can nearly see the spittle flying as Green shouts this. Evidently he is too mad to hit his target.
Bolded may act.
Round 2:
Inspire Courage +2
Red 21 damage 0 temp HP in the wall
Green 33 damage 0 temp HP
Melody
Timtenzekil sickened until start of their turn
Tycho
Mongo 3 damage 2 negative levels
Penny
Round 3:
Theodric sickened until their next turn
Warpac 12 damage 4 negative levels sickened until the start of their next turn
Warpac |
Warpac has 12 damage and 4 negative levels? He only took 5 damage and 2 negative levels in the first attack and the second attack missed. Or did I miss something? Did the extra damage come from the vicious feedback? The math does not add up if that is the case. Is the vicious active? Will his DR/adamantine help against the damage if he is hit?
Theodric Milan |
Despite feeling sickened Theodric continues his assault, carefully dodging the spectres' touches.
Sickened/courage cancel out.
Defensive Magic Dagger vs Green: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 13 - 4 = 25
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 halved to 2
The floating force knife follows up with another stab while flanking with Mongo.
stabbity: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 11 + 2 = 28
force damage: 1d4 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + (6, 1) = 11
Incorporeal Touch AC 23 again.
Theodric then tumbles away from the ghost, trusting Tycho's call.
acrobatics vs green: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31
With 35 movement I've got enough to get adjacent to Tycho after tumbling the first square.
GM Bret |

Sorry, that was a mistake on my part. I will fix it in next update.
GM Bret |
Sickened stops at the beginning of your turn.
Theodric hits with both weapons and tumbles away. He does not feel sickened after this.
Bolded may act.
Round 2:
Inspire Courage +2
Red 21 damage 0 temp HP in the wall
Green 46 damage 0 temp HP
Melody
Timtenzekil sickened until start of their turn
Tycho
Mongo 3 damage 2 negative levels
Penny
Round 3:
Theodric
Warpac 7 damage 2 negative levels sickened until the start of their next turn
Melody Mersenne |
"You can do it! Double-time!"
Melody casts haste on the three combatants in with the spirits (Warpac, Mongo, and Tim).
She also continues her performance.
I have gallant inspiration! If someone gets at least 14 on an attack roll and misses, Melody will use gallant inspiration to add 2d4 to their roll.
Warpac |
Warpac decides to attack defensively as a readied action. He activates bane on the dang spectres using his bane baldric as a swift action. Should have remembered that last round! I forget to use that a lot.
+11/1d10+4d6+13 Power Attack with Dwarven Double Waraxe [1d10; crit x3; dmg: S] (+6[BAB] +3[str] +1[wpn foc] +1[enh] -2[pwa] +3[divine favor] +2[heroism] +2[inspired] +1[haste] -2[negative levels] +2[bane] -4[fighting defensively] -2[sickened] / 1d10 +2d6[vicious] +2d6[bane] +3[str] +4[pwa] +1[enh] +3[divine favor] +2[inspired] +2[bane] -2[sickened])
AC is 15 vs. touch (haste and fighting defensively)
Deperately trying to avoid getting zeroed to death.
The One Known as Tycho |
Tycho finishes casting the spell from the scroll.
They then move closer to the action, keeping Theodric and Penny inside the shell of safety while offering haven to the dwarf.
Not too worried about the animals here and would like line of sight to drop a spiritual weapon next round.
Theodric Milan |
Sorry to keep messing up the sickened timing. I think I've finally got it. That said I'm sure I can find a few new ingenious ways to get it wrong before we are done.
GM Bret |
Melody increases the tempo!
I think you need line of sight for the gallant inspiration. Please correct me if I am wrong about that.
Warpac gets ready to do massive damage to Red when it shows itself. He does feel sick again.
Tycho finishes their spell and moves closer.
Mango comforts Penny.
Bolded may act.
Round 2:
Inspire Courage +2
Red 21 damage 0 temp HP in the wall
Green 46 damage 0 temp HP
Melody
Timtenzekil sickened until start of their turn
Tycho
Mongo 3 damage 2 negative levels
Penny
Round 3:
Theodric
Warpac 7 damage 2 negative levels sickened until the start of their next turn, readied attack
Melody Mersenne |
Fair point. I'd still like to establish the condition, even if it's unlikely I'll be able to see such an attack this round.
Penny Owlbear |
Penny waddles forward, keeping Tycho close by. If anything threatening pops out, she bites it!
Readied Bite: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 = 16
Mongo DePon |
"You should stay dead." Mongo continues slashing at the spectral miner before him, feeling the power of both Melody's song and her magic.
+1 adamantine longsword, Power Attack, haste, IC, 2 neg. levels: 1d20 + 15 - 3 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 15 - 3 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 15

Warpac |
@Tycho
Is prayer active? It says so in your tag line but I know how easy it is to miss cleaning that up.
GM Bret |
Penny is so frightened by the presence of the spectres that she refuses to move forward.
It requires a Handle Animal check to make any animal get within 30’ of a spectre.
Moved her so she is 30’ away.
Mongo takes out Green with his first sword swing.
What do you want to do with the rest of your round?
“You shoulda sta...*Urk*” Green’s reply is cut off in the middle.
Mongo may want to use their move action since Green is down.
GM Bret |
His enemy down, Mongo moves over towards Tycho.
Red comes out of the wall, calling out “You alright, Phillio?”
As it comes out, Warpac is there waiting with his axe. He chops through it and then seems a little confused as to what to do next.
Bolded may act.
Round 3:
Inspire Courage +2
Red 56 damage 0 temp HP died with his brother
Green 56 damage 0 temp HP
Melody
Timtenzekil
Tycho
Mongo 3 damage 2 negative levels
Penny
Round 4:
Theodric
Warpac 7 damage 2 negative levels, confused
The One Known as Tycho |
Oh… sorry, Warpac. No Prayer. I forgot to update my profile!
Tycho dangles an old chain in the air, readying an action to cast Barbed chains to trip the confused dwarf should he come near.
Trip: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Trip: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Trip: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Just read the post in hangouts…
Knowledge Arcana about Warpac's condition: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Melody Mersenne |
Melody tries to figure out what’s going on with Warpac.
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Theodric Milan |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
sense motive: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Theodric remains on his guard inside the sphere for now, ready to acid splash any incorporeal creatures who show up.
Theodric chants, almost trance like "From undeath to death, the spiral shall be restored. Let any who still linger come and have their spirits unburdened of this world."
Theodric readies to acid splash any further incorporeal creatures who appear.
acid splash - sickened: 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 2 - 2 = 23
[ooc]Likely 8 less due to melee and cover if not more.Should trigger the dagger attack though.
stab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
If it can find a flanking position +2 to hit and
sneak attack damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8[/ooc]
Melody Mersenne |
Realizing that Warpac may not be in his right mind, Melody casts a spell. ”Be at peace, my friend. The creatures are gone.”
DC 18 Will save, calm emotions. Tim is in the area too, but no one else. I’m not sure whether you can just intentionally fail.
Robo Bret |
1d100 ⇒ 98 On act normally he could have...
Will, strong soul, negative levels: 1d20 + 11 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 11 + 4 - 2 = 30 Strong willed too...
Mongo is closer...
Warpac moves towards Mongo only to be tripped by Tycho’s spell.
From the ground, he swings at Mongo, but misses.
To hit Dwarven Double Waraxe, prone: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 11 - 4 = 13
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Vicious feedback damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
He then comes to his senses.
Combat over
GM Bret |
Investigating the bodies at the end of the tunnel, you find both of the bodies lie slumped against the wall at the westernmost end of this branch of the mines—they each feature hideous mutations and wounds consistent with horrific torture. The bodies appear to have been looted, leaving only their clothing.
You recognize that these are the bodies of the people who became the spectres.
Mongo DePon |
"That's not right."
The One Known as Tycho |
In their normal voice, Tycho muses, I'm thinking Abtaroh isn't as nice as she appears… which isn't at all. Then, in Leeara's voice, they growl: Mean lady!
They look around for clues on or near the bodies. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
I will help bury these sad miners, and perhaps Theodric or Tycho can say a prayer. They pull out a traveler's any-tool. Huh. Tycho actually doesn't own my favorite cheap item. Nevertheless, they will help bury these miners.
Mongo DePon |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Mongo, remembering his long and storied career as a digger on Pathfinder sites before his field commission, will gladly dig graves. Though if he can't find any abandoned mining equipment around then he may have to use his sword or something, as I apparently didn't buy him a freaking shovel, despite his backstory.
Timtenzekil Tengentrail |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Not sure if it works, but Tim can try taking them down into the earth glide and leaving them there. I'm pretty sure the game crashes if I do it in combat, but bodies shouldn't be an issue.
GM Bret |
Undefined behavior what happens if you drop something while Earth Gliding.
Tycho doesn’t find anything of importance on the two bodies.
There are shovels and picks around the mine, no problems there.
Customs vary, but normally some sort of prayer is said over the bodies once they are laid to rest. It would be difficult to do that if Timtenzekil just drops the bodies in the middle of the rock or earth. It certainly wouldn’t be a very dignified burial.
Mongo DePon |
Mongo grabs some mining tools and begins digging, his experience at the menial task evident in his efficiency.
Theodric Milan |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Theodric nods, "I believe a proper burial and funerary rites should prevent this from happening again."
Theodric pulls out several tiny packets of whippoorwill bone dust and sprinkles it in the graves before they are filled.

Let their Day of Bones be today
Let the Lady of Graves keep their secrets
Let us trouble them no more."
Warpac |

Warpac shakes with a bit of frustraton and panic as he considers what might have happened after he lost control.
"Whatever is going on with me, I am going to have to take it easy until we figure it out. I can't afford to go rogue on you all."
Melody Mersenne |
Outside the mine seems better.
