OK I've modified the basic crunch for Durona to fit the campaign, and redone her background as well. Here she is (updates to languages and gear will be done if she's picked, I left them alone for now)

Link to Durona, the seducer witch: Durona
And her familiar, Ava: Ava the Thrush

And here's the

Background:

Born to an Varisian acolyte of Calistria and a disguised green hag, Durona was originally born in Irrisen. Her hag mother quickly tired of having a child in tow while she went about her travels, and abandoned her changeling daughter at her father's temple near Riddleport.

As Durona left childhood, her innate skills in charming and seducing others began to show themselves, and she was viewed as having a very promising future as a Callistrian priestess or sacred prostitute. Her father began to notice her penchant for using her charms for very selfish reasons, and figured out her true heritage on her mother's side.

Thinking that she would be persecuted as a hag's daughter, Durona's father quickly snuck her out of the temple, equipped her as best he could, and sent her on her way. She travelled south through her teens, seducing and charming any target of power that she could in order to have a pampered life among people she could control.

After being chased out of several towns for impropriety or suspicion of manipulating nobility, she realized that she needed to start over and take a lower profile if she was to really be happy.

Arriving in Sandpoint, Durona met Ameiko, and saw in her family history and her popularity a way to stay in someone else's shadow while still manipulating those around her for her own gain. She quickly befriended Ameiko, using all of her charms to convince Ameiko of her loyalty and friendship. She has since been helping at the Rusty Dragon, getting to know as many people in Sandpoint as possible, building her web of relationships in the shadows, all while letting Ameiko take the front in public relations.

This relationship suits her perfectly for now, and in order to keep it going she would help her friend out in any way possible. Over time, despite her initial intentions, her friendship with Ameiko has become more real than just a cover, although she still does have her own personal agenda. She is not the strongest in combat, but her skills at diplomacy, intimidation, bluffing, and sense motive are beyond par.

I took the Best Friend: Ameiko trait once I figured out how to fit it in her background.

oyzar wrote:
I'm either going without an archtype or picking spirit summoner (life). There doesn't seem to be a healer yet.

And as a side note: (If picked) I'm more than happy to swap around hexes and be more of a seducer/healer vs a seducer/debuffer if noone wants to play a healing class.

Oh, FWIW, I submitted a Samurai (Ronin), but I didn't realize there was need for a healer. I am absolutely happy to resubmit a healer, as a cleric or oracle of some kind. So do let me know if that's a preference or of more benefit to the group.

Thanks!

Here is oyzar's summoner. With the life spirit he'll be able to fill in for healing as well. Please feel free to comment if there are anything you wonder about or if there is something you would like me to change to better fit in with the game.

Liberty's Edge

I have an idea, or two, but one requires GM opinion.

A particularly fuzzy couple of feats:

I was aiming for a Shelyn-devotee Swashbuckler taking the Bladed Brush and Slashing Grace to buckle swashes using a glaive. However, by RAW it's uncertain whether Bladed Brush actually allows someone to pick up Slashing Grace, as the glaive is not properly a one-handed slashing weapon, it's just treated that way when wielded. It looks like RAI intended them to work together, but the wording is confusing.

Sapiens wrote:

** spoiler omitted **

Note that even if the GM doesn't allow this, the Swashbuckler Whirling Dervish archetype works with Bladed Brush, though then you would have to wait until 4th level to get dex to damage.

For your consideration: Rix

Background:
Rix thought it was funny how his perception of Sandpoint had changed over the years. When he had been little, it had all felt so huge. He remembered walking down Festival Street with his parents and gawking at the bunting that had been put up for the Swallowtail Festival. The rows of houses and shops leading up to Market Street has seemed so grand and the festival itself at the cathedral had been almost overwhelming. Now in his early twenties, it felt cramped and confined. For Desna’s sake, he could walk from one side of town to the other in less than five minutes! None of the shops held any mystery that has one seemed so exciting held any mystery, for he had long explored every nook and cranny, even climbing up the Cathedral roof no longer held the allure it once had.

Apart from some of the unpleasantness of a few years back, the only thing remotely exciting had been Aunty Mvashti’s stories, she’d known some real corkers. He missed her, she wasn’t his real Aunt, although his parents has always treated her as part of the extended family. The funeral took place several months ago, how could he forget? The entire town had turned out and to cap it all his childhood sweetheart Liz had dumped him and eloped with the butcher's son. Rix spent many evenings after drowning his sorrows in the Rusty Dragon before Ameiko explained that, no he wouldn’t find the answer at the bottom of one of her flagons although of course she was happy for the custom.

Of late Rix has increasingly felt that something was about to change, he could smell it in the air. Studying his father’s maps he was amazed by how wide the world is with numerous continents, some with vast inland seas and impossibly high mountains, others virgin jungle surrounded by trackless seas. He’d heard so many things, and read some of the pathfinder chronicles, he longed to see what was out there, to set foot in foreign and exotic lands! He felt prepared, his father had taught him swordplay and his mother had inducted him into the mysteries of the secret art. All he needed was some friends to travel with…

High Concept:
I’m imagining Rix as a swashbuckling adventurer, combining cunning swordplay with magic. If Eroll Flynn and Gandalf had loved each other very much, Rix might have been the result! I’m intending to play him as a fairly defensive character, likely stocking up on Mirror Images and the like to make up for his low AC. With luck he’ll be reposting and redirecting blows left and right, which should be entertaining to write posts for.

Silver Crusade

Character submission below. I'll create an alias if I'm selected

Nikka Eversong is a female halfling druid (Feyspeaker, Worldwalker) who has been raised largely by Koya.

If there are any questions or issues please let me know.

History:

Nikka was born in Sandpoint, the only child of a young couple. Sixteen years ago, when Nikka was 6 years old tragedy struck.

The details of that tragedy are unclear to this day.

What is known is that one day the family went on a picnic to a nearby glade. A glade that had been used by countless others for countless picnics. And they never returned.

A search for the lost family was instigated and the bodies of the two elder Eversongs were found. Dead with no mark upon them. The body of Nikka wasn't found, nor was any track of her. She was, reluctantly, given up for lost.

9 months and 10 days later, Nikka wandered back into Sandpoint. Unhurt, unharmed, apparently unchanged. She remembered the picnic. She remembered falling asleep. She woke up and returned to town looking for her parents. To her, it was still the day of the picnic.

Koya Mvashti stepped up to adopt the young halfling girl and she has been her dutiful daughter ever since.

Despite respecting Desna, she has given her life to the Green Faith and trained under a druid who wandered for some time with Koya's caravan. But something, quite likely that missing year, has changed her and she treats the natural world in a way unknown to any she has met.

On her final initiation ceremony as a druid she befriended the young Fire Cougar Jakur. A fire cougar that, himself, has obviously been touched by the Fey

Personality:

In some respects Nikka is a fairly stereotypical Varisian Halfling. She is happy, good natured, considerate and compassionate. Always willing to lend a hand with whatever chores are going on she became the pet of the entire Caravan.

She absolutely ADORES animals and has a natural way with them. Her abilities around animals are sufficient to earn her a position on whatever caravan she would wish to join. Jakur is her mischievous younger brother. Her dumb, animalistic younger brother :-). She is not so deluded as to think him more than he is.

But she also likes people too. She is amused by their foibles, she loves to talk to them and find out what interests and drives them.

She loves the wandering life and will very eagerly join the caravan to the north. Partly to help her mother, partly for the joy of wandering. But, also, partly because she has heard stories of the Spirit World to be found in far off Minkai and would love to see and talk to them.

She is a non violent person and will try and resolve issues through diplomacy and tact if possible. She is too soft natured to take life herself and, only in the direst circumstances will she take up arms.

However, she is no fool and knows the world is a dangerous place. She is quite happy to let Jakur do any violence that is necessary.

She knows that people are going to be afraid around Jajur and so has trained him to do some basic tricks. Its hard to be afraid of a young Fire Cougar that is rolling on its back asking for tummy rubs. Even one with a dark green band in its fur

Although she very rarely talks of it she is still very much affected by the death of her parents and the lost 9 months of time. She desperately wants to know what happened. She just has no idea how to go about finding out (she has already consulted any sages that she has come in contact with. Other than a theory that she went to The First World they know little)

Appearance:

Nikka is a beautiful young halfling woman. Somewhat vain about her appearance she is also deeply practical and doesn't hesitate to wear armour and shield when the situation demands it.

Jakur has learned to live with saddlebags attached to a harness and ribbons strewn in his hair.

Relationships:

Non mechanically, she looks up to Koya as a mother and sees Sandru as a fairly aloof elder brother. Although she knows both Ameiko and Shalelu neither has really impacted on her life too much at this point

Mechanically, she has a 8 in her relationship with Koya and a 4 in her relationships with the others. That seems wrong :-(. But who am I to argue :-)

Party Role:

She is built to be either the primary party face or a very good back up for the party face.

She is definitely a support character. Her primary contribution to combat will be Jakur but, with the entirety of the druid spell list to draw upon, she will be quite flexible in helping in a great many circumstances

I plan on spending quite a few feats on Wild Empathy. She will definitely try to belly rub and befriend most non sapients that the group encounters.

Yeah the only iffy part is slashing grace specifies one hand or light, whereas the other lets it act as if . I'll research popular opinion.

:|aa well, I ran it once a while back, but we're far enough removed now that I could probably play it and only remember the big things like that ameiko is important and that the caravan rules totally suuuuuck.

I'm feeling a rogue.

So I'm curious about a couple of feats I found that predate the shifter class.

Nimble striker and claw pounce; as written these feats are meant to be for catfolk but can shifters take them as well?

Also can player characters take monster feats like improved natural weapons?

Ameiko, Koya, Shalelu, they're all important. I think there might be another person too but those are the ones I remember.

Hey, no dissing my "brother" Sandu :-)

Not trying to diss, it's just been a long while since I played this. Also when I played...

VERY MUCH A SPOILER:
We murdered all the non-essential NPCs.

RESPONSE TO VERY MUCH A SPOILER:
Well that seems counter-productive. Even the non-essential ones can be manipulated and used as gophers, slaves, cannon fodder, or anything else. I'm not a fan of wasting potentially useful minions :P

That might be my Chaotic Neutralness coming out though. I may be out for myself and my friends only, but wanton destruction seems wasteful.

Still working out the possibilities here. My main desire was just playing a CHA based witch who can act as party face, but I realized I have a lot of options. Main crunch doesn't change much, but I can swap out my mother's heritage and 1st level feat to act as debuffer, healer, or backup melee/improving my face skills even more depending on what is needed for the party. Sorry to keep bombarding this thread but this campaign is the most exciting PbP I've seen in a while. I'm really liking the idea of a full AP vs just one-shot scenarios on my PFS characters.

FURTHER SPOILING:
My character was CN and the only non-evil. I lamented the murder of Koya, didn't much care about the others. I kept Shalelu imprisoned and we had to have the main NPC for her part in it, but the rest? Murdered. I made sure they properly buried Koya. Probably would've killed Shalelu but she was cute until I got Katiyana.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That's why I like the idea of a full AP. With a good GM you have so many options to actually play your characters throughout their growth instead of just having to work with a new group and a single small story every 1/3 of a level. Allows for so much more continuity and creativity.

I used to have that with weekly face to face table games but the rest of my group either moved or changed schedules a while ago and we haven't found good replacements. Hence the move to PbP

Barring any errata stating you can take racial feats if not the race, the catfolk feats are out. Improved Natural Attack however is totally a thing. I don't believe there's a requirement you be a monster. Link seems to say "Natural Attack, BAB +4", so I see no reason to say no.

Why wait? Work is slow lately and shenanigans help make the day go by! I always welcome a bit of a distraction grins slyly

Okay, gonna do this. The BASICEST OF THE BASICS:

Character name: Monica

Race: Human

Class: Unchained rogue (scout)

Blurb: First, two notes: I'm taking Student Survivalist as a trait, connecting her to Shalelu. Also, she's going to be a finesse skillmonkey, I'm thinking like 16 dex/14 int to deal with Knowing And Doing Things(tm)

I'll make an actual character sheet for her if you're interested/if selected, but basically Monica is an orphan girl who was left fending for herself in Sandpoint. She was a thief, up until Shalelu caught her in the middle of trying (and failing spectacularly) to steal food. Rather than turn her in, Shalelu taught her to forage and hunt instead. She's CN in that way most teenagers are, but she has a lot of respect for the woman who gave her a way to fend for herself. Nowadays, she mostly works as a locksmith's apprentice--both to pop other people's locks, and to test his. He figures if she can break through, it's so bad that he can't sell it.

As for me... Like.

I mean, anything I could say is overshadowed by me being that guy who made the screamy barbarian meme on the paizo forums. What you see is basically exactly what you get: I'm pretty serious about being in character, pretty much able to come up with off the wall ideas that somehow stick, and pretty likely to try and be funny when dramatically apropos. I figure RPing just isn't as fun without the occasional terrible pun.

theasl wrote:
Hmm. I've had one character sitting around for a while: Takota, an exiled Shoanti (human) caravan guard. Mechanically a divine tracker ranger who worships Gorum, heading for Thunder and Fang (semi-complete sheet here). I've got some thinking to do on background specifics and personality, though.

I think I'm done with this:

background, description, personality (not in that order):
Tall and well-built, with tan skin and a bald head, Takota's Shoanti heritage is evident even though he's abandoned most of the traditional ways of his people. The last outward vestiges of his former life are his signature weapons, the earth breaker and klar central to the Thunder and Fang style, and his elaborate spirestalker tattoos from his Shundar-Quah upbringing.

Takota can be guarded, especially when around strangers or when he is asked about his past or the Shoanti. Around those he is familiar with, such as Sandru, he is much more relaxed, displaying a playful and mischievous attitude. However, he's never fully comfortable unless he's in the middle of a melee, crunching skulls with his giant hammer.

Takota was born into the Shoanti Shundar-Quah, and, having a strong connection to Gorum, quickly rose in their ranks as a formidable warrior. However, at some point in his rise, he was abruptly exiled from his clan, condemned to never return to the Shoanti lands, supposedly due to his involvement in a dispute between other Shoanti quahs that turned bloody. Abandoning his clan-given name and leaving the harsh Storval Plateau for the relative safety and comfort of coastal Varisian civilization, Takota nevertheless clung to whatever bits of his heritage he could salvage, the most obvious being his massive spiked hammer and lizard-skull shield: the traditional Shoanti earth breaker and klar.

When he came to Sandpoint, Takota knew how to fight and little else. Despite this - or perhaps, because of this - he quickly caught the eye of Sandru Vishki, who hired him to help guard his caravan. During the time he spent with Sandru and the caravan, Takota picked up some useful survival skills, but the Shoanti was disappointed at the lack of action he faced. Wishing to further hone his martial skill, Takota decided to leave the caravan and seek out a different lifestyle, and so he finds himself back in Sandpoint, where he first arrived after his exile, looking to start a new journey...

Sheet should be done as well, I'll convert it to an alias if picked. Thanks!

Dot for interest. Thinking an oracle of some sort.

Grand Lodge

Still working out equipment but the rest is here.

Ryn is a gregarious fellow and tries to find interesting people to travel with when given the chance because it breaks up the monotony of the day to day. Here where being an oracle is accepted this goes more better than other places he has been.

Appearance/Backstory:

Ryn Lye is short stalky half-elf. So mismatched are his features that he has been accused of being half goblin dog. One blue one brown eye, a mess of tangled curly hair, his beard is patchy and unshaved. His posture is poor and little effort is put in to his clothing.

Rye is neither as bright nor a graceful the elves and half elves of his conclave he is a lumbering oddity. His fate was sealed the day he was born, which was the day his great grandfather, the previous lorekeeper, died.

The elves say that when his grandfather died his spirit and the spirit of the past lore keepers were bound to him. This altered the course of his like in several ways. First, Ryn was plagued by spirits beyond his control. This made studying magic and history very difficult for him. The strange occurrences that followed him we unlike those of his predecessors and pushed him towards the out skirts of society. As Ryn grew he found a second well off spiritual energy within himself. It was the will of battle itself. Again, this was unlike the previous five lorekeepers. There had not been a warrior guardian of knowledge in centuries. The last was an ancient elf Glynis who served to inspired Ryn to take control of his power. He did his best to fill the role of seer and protector of tradition. At best he preformed adequately. His mother was smart and his father graceful and they provided as much guidance as they could.

Half-elves live in small community that can protect themselves, but the lorekeeper’s job is keep the stories for all of them. His job is also to remind the elves and half-elves of the elder’s tales like those of their parents’ parents’ who joined the ranks of the Shining Crusade to drive Tar-Baphon’s armies from the banks of Lake Encarthan. The lorekeepers often travel between towns, to collect tales from these places. From there they move on to broader regions looking for isolated individuals that are scattered throughout nations.

Remma'Mor is the latest incarnation of a person that was originally a slave to the Tein-Shu dynasty thousands of years ago, taught in the arts of assassination and interrogation she was challenged as one of the secret police to route out a grave corruption that slowly killed the empire. assigned to a family she has served continually every first born child committing Seppuku when the that Heir gives birth to be reborn as the same age as the next Heir to the house. only having flashes of insight she serves as a trusted friend and confidant knowing that the time will come one day that the noble family will claim their place but not much more. worshiping the God Yaezhing of harsh justice she serves as a unknown assassin and protector willing to take any measures necessary to protect her charge. typically only the father or mother of the first born knows her true purpose because she confesses only before her death.

Okay, so what I like to do is give a character description and background for applications to games. Doing all of the math tends to be the long part of the character creation process. I can come up with a rough character idea over the course of a day, I can't do pinpoint math in my head and keep all of the numbers organized over the course of a day, and doing all of that math for a game I might not even get into is a waste of time, I can use the character concept later, but the math suddenly becomes a waste if I don't make the cut. The same thing can be said for a character profile that may never actually see use.

With all that being said here's my submission for Shasyli Vyraelys a chaotic neutral sorceress follower of Calistria and Nocticula. Campaign trait: Student Survivalist of Shalelu.

Shasyli Vyraelys:
Born to a family of Nocticula cultists Shasyli was meant to be the pinnacle of a magic experiment to become a messiah of Nocticula worship, with charm, beauty, and grace capable of swaying lords and ladies wherever she went. The experiment almost worked. Shasyli has grown into a woman of charm, beauty, and grace just as intended, however, it killed everyone during the ritual and all of her beauty may very well be natural and have nothing to do with magic.

Whatever the case Shasyli was found and rescued from a death of unintended abandonment. Left alone in the world she was eventually pawned off to Sandpoint where she spent much of her childhood. She would occasionally be visited by the elf ranger Shalelu, who offered to take her on camping trips and teach her some useful survival skills. Shasyli always went when she could, but she never knew why Shalelu offered these trips to her, although she suspected it was because Shalelu was the one who first found her as a baby. Not that she ever asked but it would explain her elven name.

Eventually Shasyli started making her own excursions from Sandpoint first to Magnimar then to other towns and settlements throughout Varisia. Eventually, Shasyli found her way to Riddleport where she found work at a brothel that acted as a temple of worship to Calistria and Nocticula. She took to prostitution and the dual faith easily and with great success.

Shortly after joining the brothel Shasyli was ordered back to Sandpoint, both to expand their business and the worship of Calistria and Nocticula in the steadily growing settlement. Now she needs to find ways to gain enough gold to open a brothel discreetly.

Shasyli is a curvaceous woman with well-tanned skin with chocolate brown hair that almost seems to flow from her head. Her choice of clothing is actually fairly conservative, a long-sleeved tunic and a long skirts with dancing sandals.

While Shasyli choice of clothing may make her seem like an ordinary woman who just so happens to be beautiful and works as a dancer it’s all actually a well-thought-out ensemble. Her hair is intentionally styled with the flowing appearance in mind in order to draw the eyes of anyone who looks at it down to her body. Her choice of shirts specifically chosen to be slightly form-fitting in order to entice others with the promise of what's underneath. Her long skirts deliberately chosen to twist and turn to captivate her audience, or playmate, as she dances.

hey ScorchedOne, you missed me. a couple posts up from your latest list.

Heh three magi... Funny how that kind of thing happens in some recruitments.

So...I like to really flesh out my characters to try and RP them as well as possible. Due to that I took some time to build a full background and personality for "Durona" ... and in the process her name changed.

Durona is now Natali Souco, aka Natali Proca, but she goes by the name Kapenia now that she has a new life in Sandpoint. Crunch isn't changing much (just her mother's hag type) but the rest has been improved greatly in my mind.

She is currently built as party face primarily and debuffer second, but can easily become face/heals, face/buffer, or extreme face/backup melee depending on party composition and needs. There's also a chance that she might multiclass into Lotus Geisha Bard or go to Enchanting Courtesan prestige class due to her past and personality.

New link to crunch: Kapenia

New background:

Spoiler:
After a blood hag living in Riddleport gave birth to the child of Remus Proca, a Calistrian temple guard, she moved on to pick up a new life and abandoned the child with Remus. As such, Natali Proca never knew her ancestry and was raised with the Calistrian courtesans as her surrogate mothers. As she grew, her mother's heritage began to show itself and her skills in charming and seducing others began to show and she was viewed as having a promising future as either a Callistrian priestess or sacred prostitute. Her father, being in closer contact with her, also noticed the other facet of her heritage, her ability to hide her intentions, which were often purely selfish and manipulative.

After looking into what he knew of her mother, Remus became sure that Natali was a Veil May, the changeling spawn of a blood hag. If this became common knowledge, she would be persecuted both in Riddleport and the temple itself, where hags were reviled. Deciding that the lesser hardship for Natali would be for her to leave, he explained the situation to her, equipped her as best he could, and sent her on her way. Feeling abandoned, Natali took the surname of Souco (after soucouyant, the Varisian word for blood hag) and travelled south.

Now known as Natali Souco, she took after her mother moved from town to town throughout her teens, seducing and manipulating anyone in power in order to live a comfortable life in each location for as long as she could. Being young and immature, she was not careful in her travels, and after being chased out of several towns for impropriety or suspicion of manipulating nobility, she realized that she needed to start over and take a lower profile if she was to really be happy.

Arriving in Sandpoint in her early twenties, Natali took the name Kapenia. A kapenia is a treasured Varisian family heritage scarf, and Kapenia's story was that she was an abandoned child who knew neither of her parents, her heritage, or even her name, and as such she was the beginning of her own scarf. In Sandpoint, her sad story earned her way into the community, where she met Ameiko Kaijitsu. She saw Ameiko's status as business owner and member of a well known family as a boon, deciding to befriend her and stay in her shadow while building a web of relationships and consorts throughout town. After convincing Ameiko of her friendship and loyalty, she began helping at the Rusty Dragon, a perfect place to begin building her place in town.

Over time, despite her initial intentions, she began to view Ameiko as a true friend as opposed to just a means to an end, and they have become fast friends over the years. Although Kapenia still has her own personal agenda, she will do anything to help her first real friend, the only person she has had true feelings for who hasn't abandoned or betrayed her.

And, appearance/personality/motives:

Spoiler:
Kapenia is a tall, slender woman of seemingly human heritage with long platinum blonde hair and purplish-blue eyes. The only signs of her Veil May heritage are her bloodshot eyes and tendency to bruise easily, which she hides as well as she can through a combination of herbal eye drops and by staying away from violent physical altercations.

Having been raised in Varisia, she believes in the power of colors, and usually wears outfits of blue (the color of health, youth, and beauty) with decorative splashes of red (the color of lust). Her other often used color is yellow, to show her devotion to Calistria.

She commonly wears a toned down courtesan's outfit of a light, low cut blouse and flowing floor length skirt, with a corset to accentuate her figure. She also has a full courtesan's kit of makeup, accessories, perfumes, and multiple outfits of varying allure, so she is able to change her appearance easily to appear as an attractive peasant girl, a sensual prostitute, or anything in between as it suits her needs.

As a Veil May, Kapenia is able to expertly change her personality, temperament, and social graces as needed to take on whatever persona will best get her what she wants in any situation. She is manipulative and scheming, using her skills to persuade and seduce anyone that she feels will build up her web of relationships in town and make her life more comfortable. The only person that she shows her true self to, a shy woman who rarely feels at home, and never manipulated, is her friend Ameiko.

Kapenia has always been drawn to performance, and is skilled in dance. Her heritage has began to show in ways other than social, and since the onset of her powers she has began to fear the persecution her father warned her of. Due to this she takes the persona of an alluring, persuasive barmaid and dancer with some useful skills, hiding her arcane powers whenever possible.

Hey just wanted to jump in an offer this submission. I've played a little bit of a Jade regent game in person 3-4 years ago, we never finished book one but I wanted to be transparent with you that I have a small amount of experience though barely any significant memories.

Here is Sunishi, a Human Male Ninja from Ting-Min with a bit of an Amnesiac background.

Here is his full character and I'll spoiler the background. I took the campaign trait Rescued and tweaked it a bit to make it about Ameiko, I just kept the Shalelu benefit, if you aren't happy with that let me know. I just thought it made for a more intertwined background.

He is a pretty standard Ninja, not going for any tricks or shenanigans that make him OP -- not that you really can with the Ninja xD --. He'll be a secondary front line fighter, as typical for a rogue-ish figure. Other than that it'll be all about those skills of deception.

Thank you for considering my applicant and I look forward to hopefully gaming with you.

Background:
Sunishi has been in Sandpoint now for a few years, a capable and attractive rogue he arrived under the cover of a storm. The ship he was aboard had shipwrecked during a terrible fall storm and he survived by floating aboard a few pieces of timber. When he washed ashore outside Sandpoint he was clinging to life, bareful alive. Ameiko found him, likely astonished by the fact he was Tien, she helped nurse him back to life. Any of his personal belongings are likely lost at Sea, his only possession was the Katana he had strapped to himself with rope, securing it tightly.
Grateful for being saved he was unable to really explain anything about himself. The experience at Sea had taken something from him, something that the years had yet to restore. His memories. He has his skills which feel almost second nature and his name but really little else. He’s stuck around Sandpoint, not really knowing why he was coming to the Inner Sea in the first place.

Tall, with the lightly tanned skinned of the Tien-Min people, his brown eyes and brown hair make him unassuming enough among his own people. Though his exotic nature and mysterious background has made him something of a favorite among the local girls his age. He hasn’t really expressed interest in any of them making him all the more desired.

What Sunishi doesn’t remember and maybe never will is that he is a Ninja from Tien-Min, stolen at birth and trained to be an assassin. His original mission was to investigate rumors of Kaijitsu’s hiding in the Inner Sea Region. It was to be his first major mission on his own. Now inexplicably drawn to his target he has no idea he has even found what he was looking for. Only a slightly fond feeling for Ameiko that he attributes to being another Tien-Xia in an unfamiliar land.

Nikka, Halfling Druid

I'm being pedantic but Halfling FeyTouched druid. The archetype changes the class a LOT (at least as much as some of the other archetypes change their classes). He is much more support/skills/face oriented than one expects from a druid.

Nimble striker and claw pounce; as written these feats are meant to be for catfolk but can shifters take them as well?

Also can player characters take monster feats like improved natural weapons?

Barring any errata stating you can take racial feats if not the race, the catfolk feats are out. Improved Natural Attack however is totally a thing. I don't believe there's a requirement you be a monster. Link seems to say "Natural Attack, BAB +4", so I see no reason to say no.

I'm playing a Shifter as the only primary combatant in a Rise game right now, and the restriction we're working with is if it is available to a natural weapons Ranger, then it is available to the Shifter, because, yeah, normally PCs don't get to take monster feats. That's why they aren't general or combat feats in the first place.

And Tiger Pounce has had us get up to the first really badly weighted fight (above the clock tower) before anything really hurt us.

Also, Shifter's Focus ROCKS. Probably my favorite trick at this point is to start a charging dive as a bird and pounce at the end as a tiger. Just a really cool visual.

But, more on topic. I have a Varisian Unchained Rogue I really like, that just hasn't gotten into a game that's survived. Originally built for Rise, actually (the group I'm in now [exactly 4 players] agreed we needed to cover the 4 basic roles, and then everybody else showed up "needing" to be a rogue, an arcane, or a healer. So I put my Varisian Rogue aside and went with the Shifter.), but easily adapted, I think, since it still starts in Sandpoint.

Frees up a character concept I really enjoy, though. Let me rework him for your rules, and I'l post as him "shortly".

hustonj, here.

I've reworked the crunch on Gudada so many times now it is almost just a cut'n'paste activity.

Taking out the references to the Festival that opens Rise and replacing it with some (actually reasonable) ties to Koya and Shandu went quicker than I expected. Probably because I left the stuff about the recent unpleasantness in place. Oh, yeah. Need to add a couple of years to 'Dada's age as part of this rework . . ..

I hope those present can appreciate how the mechanics build an active caravan participant, and not just an adventuring skill monkey. There is overlap, though, I admit.

Question for the ScorchedOne: Edit: Found the rule, again. Nevermind.

Seems I am late to the party. I literally joined the site yesterday, and would like to get involved so I can learn more about the game world by people who know a whole lot more than me. I only have one character option, and it's simple because I prefer simplicity to complication every time. Juno Rainmaker is a half-orc Fighter/Barbarian whose mother was the orc, a warchief's daughter turned bandit raider and her father is a Kal Drogo-esque Barbarian built like a bear. He too, was a Raider, and the only one "awesome" enough to defeat Juno's mother in a fight...

Welcome to the forums. Selection hasn't happened yet so there's time. The GM is looking for a bit more than the above but there should be plenty of time to write what's needed.

Its worth reading Painlord's PbP guide. Also it usually takes a few attempts to get picked, if you consider there are only 4-5 slots available for most games but they often get 10-15 applications.

Or, y'know, 20+.

Speaking of 20+, is there anything interesting or fun we can do to try and increase our chances? Just dropping a character in and waiting is fine, but wondering if RP in the recruitment thread or some kind of other interaction/activity would be beneficial. Kapenia is really looking forward to the possibility of increasing her influence outside of Sandpoint and maybe bringing word of Calistria to the people of other regions who don't know of her glorious domains of lust and vengeance.

I keep getting the urge to post in this thread but figured I'd ask before ScorchedOne gets irritated by too much non-recruitment activity.

I don't tend to get irritated by much. I do plan to have a prompt for some further development of character, rapport, see what happens. Been reading the book and trying to come up with something. All I have so far is something regarding the "Sandpoint Devil"

Some game ads take the first responders, others take the most interesting character builds, others take the most interesting character write-ups, etc. Others aren't ads at all, but are really just "gathering places" for people that were selected before the ad went up.

Expect to be passed over, and it is easier to keep looking. Expect to be selected, and every time you are passed over can become depressing. The numbers say you are going to get passed over far more often than selected. They just do.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hahahahahahahaha...20+, yeah...

And then you join a game that's already in progress, wait two months to get your character introduced, make six posts, and then someone else drops and the GM scraps it all.

PbP is actually short for Pathfinder but Painful.

This is good advice. Expecting to be selected can just bring you down if (when) you're not. I like to combat this with doing short PFS campaigns with 2-3 other characters while continuing to submit my favorite char ideas to the larger/longer campaigns. That way if I am continuously not selected I still have some gameplay to keep my morale up :) Don't put all your energy into one campaign, PbP can end up being hit or miss depending on how you approach it.

Another option if you're really invested in one character is to submit it to all campaigns that interest you, as long as they have staggered selection dates. That way you maximize your chances, and if you're selected for one just remove yourself from the ones that haven't finished mustering yet.

Grand Lodge

I have found playing PFS pbp invaluable.
- It let's me play regularly in this formatt.
- It let's me test run characters so when I find an AP I have a good idea of what I wan to play.
- It let's me experience far more going and player styles hopefully making me a much better player. You have to treat being a good player as a skill to develope.
- Seeing different players and GMs different organizational techniques will give you a much bigger tool box for playing and gm.

Ha ain't that the truth! It's not all bad, games that last longer than 3 months tend to stay the course in my experience, so if you're persistent you can find some gems.

Fortunately, I like creating characters :-). I have to believe that I'll have a CHANCE of playing the character before creating one but I enjoy the mini game of just creating a character.

If I didn't, I'd never have lasted long enough to get into the games that I HAVE gotten into.

For what tiny bit its worth, create the character that you want to play. Glance at the submissions so far and maybe improve your odds a little if there is an unfilled niche that you WANT to play. But if you're not excited about your character it will probably show and probably cause it to NOT be chosen. I know that the characters I liked the most are most likely to be chosen (no guarantee at all, of course, but statistically they do better).

But yeah, its a numbers game. Most characters will NOT be selectted

Edit: And yes, be prepared for the fact that MOST games fail in the first few months. Being selected is only the first hurdle :-)

It is, indeed, doubly annoying to go through an involved selection only to have the game fail quickly either as a player or one of those not selected.

One would think people understand the commitment required to run an AP before they sign up, yet it happens all too often.

Of the four or five AP and campaigns I've been involved in, only one didnt fizzle and fade in a few months.

Ive been on here for a couple years now and have yet to join a game that lasts longer than a couple months before falling apart 'sigh', fingers crossed.
