No, whenever you have downtime.

I thought you could only level at session end?

Generally you can level any time you "make camp" and you have the XP to spend.

At the end of session we go and look at bonds, alignments and the "3 group questions" to get an additional XP boost, but it's pretty common to earn your XP through 6- rolls, so you'll often have people level in the middle of a session during a camp.

You can get away with that in DW because leveling is so fast. ;)

Ok, I'll level up soon!

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

I added a new bond with Bathilda: Bathilda and I appear to have seen far too much of each other.

Female Ousider (human) Barbarian 3 HP: 23/23 | Base Damage: d10 | Armor: 1 | Str: +2, Dex: +1, Con: +1, Int: -1, Wis: 0, Cha: 0 | XP: 3

Brilliant! I love it. Adding new bonds now. GM, jsut so I understand it right, do we get XP if a bond changes? Also, did we get XP for the three questions? I have not yet marked it due to being unsure if we all agreed that we did answer yes to all three questions, or if it was only two.

I will let everyone know when we have an End of Session move, it doesn't trigger every time we camp. When the End of Session move triggers is when you get XP from the 3 questions; you can resolve Bonds and mark new ones whenever the Bonds change due to events, or if you talk it out with someone during downtime.

Female Ousider (human) Barbarian 3 HP: 23/23 | Base Damage: d10 | Armor: 1 | Str: +2, Dex: +1, Con: +1, Int: -1, Wis: 0, Cha: 0 | XP: 3

Okay, but I still wanted to know what the verdict form the last End of Session was. Did we say yes to all three or was it decided that the arrows didn't qualify as unique loot. I just wanted to know because I haven't marked the XP from that yet, since I didn't know if we got to mark two or three XP.

Oh, I'm sorry, it was absolutely yes to all three. Archepex's arrows are sick-nasty.

I'm tempted to take God Midst the Wastes because the cleric level scales with my own, but I don't want to step on MykMyk's toes.

Reference: God Amidst the Wastes
Dedicate yourself to a deity (name a new one or choose one that’s already been established). You gain the commune and cast a spell cleric moves. When you select this move, treat yourself as a cleric of level 1 for using spells. Every time you gain a level thereafter, increase your effective cleric level by 1.

I can't see Archepex dedicating himself to a dwarven god. Maybe Archepex should admit that the Lord of Stars really impressed him during that ambush? I don't know. Still thinking.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

God Amidst the Wastes has to be in the top ten for best move names.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Bonds:

I'm resolving: I'm worried about Dhice's ability to survive.

I'm adding:

1) Dhice's power is extraordinary, perhaps I can use it to my advantage.
2) The Speaker is the only person who understands me.

I can't speak for Myk-Myk, but I don't think you'd be stepping on his toes much by taking that Advanced Move. It would not play out the same way as his cleric moves.

If he has no objections I'll pick that one

Archepex, your thought about worshipping the Lord of Stars got me thinking... what if you worshipped another god known by those from the wilds who over time starts to look like it might be an alternate persona of the Lord of Stars?

Not trying to be pushy here, just the kind of thing I'd be spit-balling with you if we were all sitting around a table together.

Invisible, All-Seeing Elven Ranger 4 | HP 21/21 |Armor:2 | XP:5 | Str:9(0) Dex:18(+3) Con:13(0) Int:12(0) Wis:16(+2) Cha: 8(-1) Spells: (Rote) Guidance, Sanctify, Light | Lvl 1: Magic Weapon, Bless, CLW

I was actually thinking of a wild good of the sky and birds as that's more my style. Could totally be an alternate personality out aspect of the Lord of Stars. Good idea.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Is Gerda entering the mine with us? I couldn't tell if she left with Helga.

She's not with you. You didn't see her leave, but she must have followed Helga away.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Moosh, should I assume that I didn't enter the mine entrance without a plan and fail that trap expert?

No, that failed Trap Expert roll was for the final trap on the side-path, not the traps within the mine. You haven't had a chance to enter the mineshaft proper yet.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Ok. I had posted here about Morley, in his dazed state after hitting the trap, stumbling into the mine entrance and rolling another failed trap expert roll. I'll ignore that post and remove the XP I marked for it.

Oh crap, sorry man. I totally missed that you wrote that. I do that sometimes, just remind me in the future if it looks like I overlooked something. Yeah retcon it for now, if you don't mind.

Morley is catching up fast in xp with his trap rolls!

I love the 6- XP mechanic in DW,it makes every result on every roll fun.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

I really wanted to succeed on that one! But failure is a reward all its own.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Just realized I acted while thinking the cart entered the mine and disappeared. Are the cart and its occupants still sitting outside the mine?

Wow, these forums go down a LOT. At least they have in the last couple weeks.

Female Ousider (human) Barbarian 3 HP: 23/23 | Base Damage: d10 | Armor: 1 | Str: +2, Dex: +1, Con: +1, Int: -1, Wis: 0, Cha: 0 | XP: 3

It happens intermittently. It's more likely to happen when sales and big events are going on as well as when they update the store or the website's software.

@ Morley: As a player, I feel for you. Bathilda, though, has no such feelings.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Really looking forward to giving Bathilda a nice big hug. :)

Female Ousider (human) Barbarian 3 HP: 23/23 | Base Damage: d10 | Armor: 1 | Str: +2, Dex: +1, Con: +1, Int: -1, Wis: 0, Cha: 0 | XP: 3

You really want Bathilda to kill the poor guy? She's a berserker, but she does not like smelling like death, or anything foul really.

Human Channeler 5 | Attunement: Air| XP 7 | S-1 D 0 C+3 I+1 W+1 (*0) C+1 | HP 28 /28 | Armor 1 (temp: 0) | Elemental Control: 3 | Defend:0

I actually really enjoy rolling 6- in DW, unless I'm on death's door and I'm actually looking at character death. In other circumstances, the 6- just makes things more interesting.

So I'm the opposite of Bathidla: as a player I'm a little envious of Morley's failures, but as a character Dhice is sympathetic.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

Bathilda, I like the tension between our characters. Just want to make sure that we stay on good terms as players.

I think we will need to resolve our bonds for the worse!

Hey im back from halloween, hopefully i can catch up some.

Also Moosh can you tell me what in the world a STAR-Shaker is? its from the Move called Hellfire from Above. There also is the Move called Consort of Shadows.

Female Ousider (human) Barbarian 3 HP: 23/23 | Base Damage: d10 | Armor: 1 | Str: +2, Dex: +1, Con: +1, Int: -1, Wis: 0, Cha: 0 | XP: 3

Oh don't worry, I'm more than happy with how things are going. It's rare that I get even annoyed with another player here, so no worries there. As for resolving our bonds, well. I wonder how bad things will get before the rest of the party puts their foot down? Morley has won a little respect from Bathilda though. Those were better reasons than she was prepared for.

Human Channeler 5 | Attunement: Air| XP 7 | S-1 D 0 C+3 I+1 W+1 (*0) C+1 | HP 28 /28 | Armor 1 (temp: 0) | Elemental Control: 3 | Defend:0

I almost thought Bathilda was going to kick the puppy there. Maybe if Morley's reasons weren't better than she was expecting to hear...?

Chiming in to agree that the dynamic between Morley and Bathilda's interesting. I like good RP.

Have I done this right? Also, I'm not sure how to create characters, or make profiles. Help?
EDIT: Found it!

Sounds good Emma! You can be with the party this whole time; just be mindful of the fact that you've been fighting alongside these people for 6 months or so. You'll want to read what their characters are like and come up with some Bonds, is my recommendation.

Thanks. However, I enjoy playing the outsider coming into a group. Perhaps I could meet them somewhere?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Third on the Corpse Pit.

Ew. No. Additionally, that sounds a little too much like sneaking around, and I'm a paladin. Perhaps I'm already in the mine? And rather out of my depth, perhaps. (Geddit?)

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

We are going in to rescue people. You can definitely be in there.

I think we've done all we can out here, I'll Morley our way in the mine. Shouldn't be too long before we show up where you are.

Wow 4 armor, that is epic! I know who I'm hiding behind.

Mykmyk what spells do you have access to? Edit: Nevermind, I didn't realize how priests work.

I have a hilarious idea involving the word 'rescue'. Sure, I'm tied up somewhere, with a quite a few disappointed villagers with me.

Female Human Intimidating Paladin | Lvl 3 | HP: 24/25 | Armor: 5 | XP: 2 | STR +2 | DEX 0 | CON +1 | INT -1 | WIS 0 | CHA +1

Dhice, Muppy is amazing. Can we keep him?

Until I have to dismiss him or lose control, yes. Although technically he doesn't have to disappear when I lose control. He could easily become a fixture if Mooshy obliges.

He's already making me laugh, that's for sure.

Male Human Thief | Lvl 1.09 | HP: -1/18 | Armor: 1 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT -1 | WIS 1 | CHA 1

I added some new bonds so I have one with everyone:

Rickard's ways are strange and confusing.
I have heard of Hjalmar's exploits and am suitable impressed.
Mykmyk showed me true insights into the path I must follow.
