Backstory:
Emma awoke from the nightmare to find blood on her hands and burning across her face. Father was drunk, and had hit Mother. He shouldn’t have done that. He shouldn’t have. When she awoke from the red darkness, his skull was split open and his brains watered the shag-pile carpet. Mother had suffered a similar fate as she tried to protect her useless, worthless, abusive husband from their monstrous daughter.

Posses were sent to track down the ‘bandits’. They never found them. Kindly old ladies tried to calm the sobbing girl. They never managed it. 8-year-old Emma knew that if they learned of the truth of her parents death, she would burn for it. So, she cried and wailed and spouted nonsense about bandits-skaven-ghosts-blood-dragons. Of course they trusted her.

They tried to tame the child with dolls and dresses. She mutilated the dolls and tore the dresses and cut her hair and fought with the boys. They laughed at her behind well-meaning platitudes as she trained for hours with a wooden sword, winced sympathetically at the silvery scar that tore her face in half. She sweated in the sun, froze in the winter and grew strong.

When she broke the nose of the mayor’s sun for having the temerity to hold her hand and call her pretty, she knew she would have to leave.

She did.

She now does her best to burn out corruption wherever she can find it. The most evil thing that she needs to kill is herself, but she can’t face that darkness yet
