Oh great. Salsa just volunteered to torture me. Don't you have enough fun giving Olivius PTSD? :P

It's so fun to send you to the brink of death multiple times...

Are you talking about the nightmare or Krosk? Or maybe even Goberto? ;P

As you claimed. Flavors. And no good flavors either.
Goberto wasn't bad. I kinda like him. The other two...
Are you offering to torture all of us, or just my poor fragile psyche?

Oh all of you, of course. I'm a equal opportunist after all.

Quick question on races: are elves still long lived or are they naturey humans with pointy ears?

Long lives, infrequent birthrates. They age and die, but it takes approximately three human/dwarf lifetimes to equal a typical elven one. Elves also mature much more slowly than the younger races. Culturally, generally pretty isolationist, but with a warmth that softens their xenophobia.

So dwarves and humans have equivalent life expectancy?

Generally, dwarves are known to have firmer constitutions, and dwarf life expectancy is somewhat longer as a result of that, but overall, equivalent.

Greetings all, Olaeus the necromancer here to aid souls in passing the Black Gates.

Hello everyone. Moosh told me there was an opening, and I decided to take on the role of Morley, the lazy human thief that took the brunt of Wicks' anger over the whole Skaven ambush affair. To be fair, it wasn't really his fault now was it?

Hey guys! Welcome!

Mooshy, has anyone actually officially dropped out?

Well, for bonds I get the following:
• Death desires the soul of _______, but I have my own plans.
• ______ would kill me if he/she knew my true purpose.
• _______ is the only one who can be trusted with my secrets.
• I have seen a vision of _______’s death, and I must prevent it.
• The shade of ________’s parent told me a family secret.

So I'm thinking that Mykmyk can minister to the company's living and wounded, and the company necromancer can tend to the dead. I even have my own shovel!

Bathilda could work for the first two. For one thing, I'm sure Olaeus is wondering how she hasn't pickled herself considering the amount of alcohol she drinks. Also, the resident barbarian has a bit of distrust of magic save the heal-y kind. She's been patched up enough to be very thankful to divine healers.

Not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to help. :)

I can heal too! Sort of. Well, transferring health from one to another. It's not pleasant though.

As for what style of necromancer, Orlaeus is Good; which asks him to usher the dying to peace beyond the Black Gates. So he's spooky and hangs out with the undead, but he won't be sacrificing innocents or shady stuff like that. He's basically a mortician with pets.

Hahaha, I love that a new player jumped right into the skin of one of my NPCs. That's great. Welcome to my new arrivals! Dhice, I don't think anyone's dropped out officially, but we haven't heard from our resident Shifter in awhile. I don't think we will be seeing much more from him, unfortunately.

Morley's current bonds:

Bonds:
Archepex suspects me of a crime I didn't commit.
I don't think Grigor approves of my lifestyle.
I worry about the ability of Dhice to survive.

I think Bathilda might have a bond with Morley, based on that past misunderstanding.

Morley- Ya. You totally stole food from the company you cretin.

Bond: Morley is a coward and a theif who needs to learn to provide for himself

Moosh, rules question for you: Is Max Load calculated using your Strength score or your STR modifier?

I've calculated it in the past using MOD, but that felt rather punishing and I like giving out fun loot. Plus I've added Salvage which isn't part of the main ruleset. Go ahead and add your strength SCORE to your load, not mod.

ahh, Strength score eh? That changes things significantly for me!

Morley that bond with Dhice is classic. He doesn't exactly radiate "survival skills" to look at him!

Yeah, I see the argument for using MOD, but this is a fantasy game. I want to load you guys up with loot where possible.

That first fight didn't instill any confidence!

Also, "a soothing balm (0 weight) that feels nice on your emanation point" may be the greatest inventory entry that I have ever seen.

Morley's backstory:

Morley is a war orphan, who spent his toddler years at the McGree Orphanage, with no knowledge of his ancestry. At age five he left the orphanage and lived on the streets of various cities, sometimes stowing away in caravans to stay ahead of the local constables. By necessity he took to a life of petty theft to survive, until a local apothecary took pity on him. From age ten Morley lived and worked in the apothecary shop. Often, late at night after the apothecary had gone to sleep, Morley would sneak down to the store floor, pick the lock, disable the alarm traps set by the apothecary, and study the texts on poisons, enthralled by the possibility of leveling the playing field against the brutes that he had struggled against during his formative years.

At age 14, he began using Oil of Tagit to allow him to sleep without night terrors. At age 16, he required such a large dose to sleep that he abandoned the apothecary and joined a local thieves' den to pay for his habit. He worked as a breaker, picking locks, disabling traps, and relieving the more fortunate of their valuables.

At age 18, he and his cohort were arrested after being set up by their fixer, Syllix the Grey. Awaiting execution, Morley received a visit from an odd halfling, who offered him his freedom in exchange for three years' service as a scout and breaker.

Morley accepted without hesitation, and together, the human and halfling rode out of town past the gallows set up for his crew. Morley never looked back.

His drug use makes him unreliable, but he is a quick study despite his lack of a formal education. He successfully begged, bribed, or otherwise convinced Locrian to teach him the blade and Archepex to teach him the bow, until a recent series of misunderstandings set the others against him. Those incidents with Bathilda were particularly damning. How could he tell her that he had actually thought he was in his own tent without explaining his addiction?

Despite these setbacks, he means to prove himself to the others, especially Grigor, who gave him the most valuable piece of advice he has ever received: "Nobody cares if the dead man fought with honor."

Ah, well, to Bathilda, you tried to rob her then tried to get a peek while trying to rob her. That puts you pretty firmly in her bad books.

Hey Morley, how about this as a bond?
• The shade of Morley’s parent told me a family secret.

I dont see why not, maybe we can have philosophical discussions on death.

I'm enjoying the black sheep role. Does anyone have a positive relationship with Morley?

The quartermaster, probably.

I don't see any reason Orlaeus wouldn't have a good relationship with Morley. You should always befriend the cook.

Bathilda did you take the Skaven grenades that Dhice offered to you a while back? At my d4 class damage I don't ever see myself using them, but they'd be much more deadly in your hands.

>Bathilda: great!

>Mooshy: I have a rough idea of what happened to Dhice in Grigor's raid that got Elise killed, but I've only hinted at it in the Gameplay thread, and I'm happy to leave it all open-ended. "Play to find out what happens" and all that. I'd probably adapt it to play off whatever you throw at us in the mines.

Alternatively, I can tell you what I have in mind and you can riff off it as you bring the mines to life. Do you have a preference?

Give me what you've got for the backstory already, and we'll make up the rest as we go.

Human Channeler 5 | Attunement: Air| XP 7 | S-1 D 0 C+3 I+1 W+1 (*0) C+1 | HP 28 /28 | Armor 1 (temp: 0) | Elemental Control: 3 | Defend:0

OK, if you recall, Dhice snuck in behind Grigor and his sister Elise (who Dhice had a crush on) as they attacked a Skaven stronghold that had taken over a long forgotten cult's underground base.

I imagine that Dhice got separated from the Dragoons (he was trying to sneak along behind unnoticed) and ended up wandering the dark corridors alone. He became disoriented, probably dehydrated and a bit panicky. His first raw, forceful Channeling episodes happened in those corridors (very different from the subtle stone working he did before).

Eventually he stumbled into a deeper section where the Skaven had some prisoners, probably people Dhice knew from the Dragoons. The Skaven would've been torturing them in unspeakable ways, and they would have toyed with the young unarmed human. "Choose which of your friends will have his eyeballs eaten out next, puny human!" "Should we remove Garrick's thumbs or Johnston's?"

Dhice remembers basically none of this, and certainly doesn't remember how he got out, except that afterwards his forearms were ripped open and half the complex collapsed. The nightmares are flashbacks to his confrontation with the Skaven torturers.

Obviously I'm expecting that trying to save/retrieve some prisoners from the Skaven in a mine is going to trigger some particular scenes to come blazing back to Dhice's mind. Probably at the worst possible moment!

Okay, so here's a list of new bonds + changes to old ones.

  • Mykmyk knows his stuff. I can't hide when I'm hurt from him.
  • Archepex has seen me at my weakest and most vulnerable and did not show scorn nor pity. I can trust and confide in him.
  • Olaeus is hiding something. I do not trust him, nor his motives.
  • Morley has tried to steal from me and has invaded my privacy. I will need to keep my eyes on him.
  • There is something wrong with Dhice. I must be wary with him about.

I need to work on the wording, but I think I got the gist of it.

  • Human Channeler 5 | Attunement: Air| XP 7 | S-1 D 0 C+3 I+1 W+1 (*0) C+1 | HP 28 /28 | Armor 1 (temp: 0) | Elemental Control: 3 | Defend:0

This is mine with Bathilda, which of course is just perfectly set up for some interesting events: "Bathilda must think I'm practically an enemy, I will find a way to convince her otherwise. "

I thought you could only level at session end?
