After consideration, I've decided to finally dot for interest. I'd like to submit Bruden Runehammer, Dwarven Wizard. He'll be Conjuration or abjuration school Pact Wizard with Valet Familiar, focused on crafting. He'll be investing in at least the big few crafting feats, Scroll, Wondrous Item, Arms and Armor, and possibly Construct and maybe Ring for fun. I'm very interested in making custom items, weapons and armor for each individual in the party, and will tailor them specifically to their alignment and possibly class and add extra abilities that meet their specific needs. Bruden is a repurposed old Avatar, but the name is good for a dwarf and I have too many unused avatars and that bothers me a little.

I prefer character death to mean something. It's okay if it happens randomly, but it is much better for it to have purpose. We're crafting a story, and the best stories will have twists and turns. But heroes are heroes for a reason and I don't see any reason to throw out weeks of work because of a couple bad rolls of the dice unless such a death is memorable. Winning at roleplaying is when you're able to recall the exploits of your character years later. Random deaths rarely make for memorable experiences.

I have no map preference. We did theater of the mind in my homegroup for years, and eventually started using figurines (lego) to get a better feel for what was happening, and now we use the full pathfinder grid. I feel comfortable with any of it.

Bruden has made a Ioun Wyrd Valet familiar out of his unborn son when his wife died about ten years previous to the festival. His ultimate goal is to give his son his life that he would have had if he came to term. I'm guessing that will take a proper wish, and would require a ritual on top. But that's his retirement plan, and he's recently started working on getting to that goal.

I'll show you the crunch I've worked up when it's finished.

Here's my submission, Kent Atherton. He'll need to change up his stats some, as I used a feat from the original version as a trait when I last submitted him for this adventure path. I'll choose a new trait and get him ready to play. I'll have a little extra money to spend, so I'll do that as well, some time later today.

Character Death: I'd obviously rather not, but I understand that stuff happens and sometimes characters die. I'll deal with it, and make a new character.

Later Selection: Sure, I'd be down to join in later.

Maps: I prefer Roll20, typically. I'm used to it from DMing/playing on here.

Kent has been living in Sandpoint for several years now. For most of his life, Kent lived and worked on his father's farm. However, his older brother was slated to inherit the property, so he was instead apprenticed to a blacksmith at age 16. Several years later, after he had completed his training, he moved to Sandpoint to open up his own smithy. He hasn't had tremendous success, although he's done well enough for himself the past few years. He often passes his time getting into friendly bouts of fisticuffs in the tavern, and while fairly gruff is a kind enough sort of man. His social skills leave something to be desired, but what he lacks in politeness he makes up for in loyalty and being really, really good at punching.

I submit Amanda Valdemor

fluff:
Amanda Valdemor Grew up in Magnamar and was expected to join the ranks of her house as a minor functionary of the family. Of course then she found god, and beer. Deciding to dedicate herself to Shelyn she moved to Sandpoint after realizing she was not traditionally talented with art. So she began to bre beer for the locals as her own special form of worship. Rather than focusing on visual beauty she instead focused on the beauty of taste, and her beer was a practical application of art. Though a novice at the arts of magic she remembers her apprenticeship where there were 2 clerics having a faux battle, in which one would cast spell after spell and the other would trivialize the whole affair by counterspelling. This made the event rather disappointing to most as there was no flash or bang, but Amanda saw the mastery and the event is something she has pondered ever since.

Hi! I am new to PbP, and still fairly fresh in Pathfinder. I've played a few campaigns that fizzled out after a couple of sessions, and with work and life, this seems like an easier way to keep up with a good campaign. I am more about the story than optimizing the numbers, and would like to submit Tsakua Chain-Breaker.
Character Death: Death is a part of life. It happens. Won't seek it out, and if it can somehow be meaningful, that's better.
Maps: Whatever's easiest.

Backstory:
Born into a world that considered him a sorry accident, Tsakua never knew parents beyond the slavers that lashed their whips across his back. Year after year, for 18 years, Tsakua was bought and sold in the slave-pits of Nidal, shipped from one master to the next, with no hope in sight but death itself.
Hope arrived in the form of a group of adventurers. Upon sacking the plantation Tsakua was held, they proclaimed the slaves free of their bonds.
Leaving the plantation, and the life of a slave behind, Tsakua set out for Belkzen, hoping to find respite among those whose heritage he shared. As he wandered through Pangolais, the sound of whips caught his ear. Following the sound, he saw two men lining up dozens of slaves, preparing to send them to their new owner.
Tsakua walked towards the men, almost hypnotized by the jingling sound of the chains that shackled the slaves together. The slavers took little notice as he approached, recognizing him only when Tsakua grasped a portion of the chains in his hand. His clothing in rags, Tsakua knew they would recognize the scars of an escaped slave, but he had made his choice.
"You have a weak link in this chain," he growled. "Masters, might I mend this for you?" Unsure and off-guard, the slavers nodded their consent.
Years of hard labor had left Tsakua with great strength. Grasping the chain on both sides of the weakness, he pulled with all his might. The slavers moved to get behind Tsakua, eager to get a new slave for no expense. Just as they were about to attack, the snap of the weak chain breaking stopped them. When he turned and spoke, Tsakua's gravelly voice was barely audible.
"Masters, a mistake has been made. Would you like me to fix it?" Faced by the towering half-orc, one slaver ran for the city guard, while the other attacked. The one that ran lived to tell the tale of a rogue slave breaking the chains that held their profits.
Hunted and on the run, Tsakua made a deal with a traveling circus caravan, to work in exchange for being smuggled away from those who would harm him.
In the circus, Tsakua found an acceptance of a sort. The circus strongman, Felix, took Tsakua under his wing and taught him some basic tumbling and some principles of fighting. As the circus moved from town to town, Tsakua began challenging local champions in fights, and gained a reputation for being hard to hit and harder to take a hit from. For once, Tsakua knew happiness.
Unfortunately, even this had to end. While traveling through a hamlet in Varisia, Tsakua witnessed a local lord beating a slave that had slipped and splashed a few droplets of mud on the lord's fine cloak. Ignoring the irate lord, Tsakua gently picked up and wiped the mud from the slave. Furious, the lord moved to strike, only to miss the quick footed half-orc. Turning and striking, Tsakua struck the lord in the jaw, breaking it and sending the silly man tumbling into the mud.
Knowing the wrath of an embarrassed noble is worse than that of a dead one, the circus quickly left town and headed for Sandpoint.
Upon arrival, Tsakua jumped off the caravan, and went to unload the wagon, only to be stopped by the circus master.
"'Ere, we're not gettin' off 'ere lad, this one's just for you." His confusion must have showed on his face, because the circus master went on, "We can't be 'avin with that sort of thing, y'know? We're a fam'ly, and got to look out fer one another, can't be 'avin lords chasin' us about the countryside. Why don't you stay here in Sandpoint, and we'll come back after things cool off in a month or two?"
That was more than 5 months ago. Since then, Tsakua hasn't interacted much with the residents of Sandpoint, choosing to live on the outskirts, working occasionally when a heavy load needs lifting or a rowdy drunk needs tossing out of a tavern. Softspoken, avoiding the restrictions of society, and living alone, Tsakua is still searching for his purpose in life.

Statistics:
Male Half-Orc Brawler 1
Str 17, Dex 16, Con 15, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 8

Appearance and Personality:

Soft-spoken and quiet, Tsakua does his best to avoid speaking too much to the townfolk, and only comes to Sandpoint when he is low on supplies. Most of the townfolk avoid the tall, wild looking half-orc, and give him a wide berth. Tsakua didn't have much when the circus left him behind, and with even less now, he hopes for an opportunity to earn some coin and leave this town behind.

Umm, more statistics would be good. What are your traits, what are your feats, what is your gear etc, etc.

The rest of it is in his Profile.

Ah.

Took another look at the character creation guidelines and realized that I didn't have a campaign trait, so I changed Desperate Focus to Friends and Enemies, as that was the only one that really fit my character storyline-wise.

I'm still waiting for an answer on the rogue, because the only trait I see that really works is the theater and that would go better with a bard. Maybe I'll just multi class a bit, I was working for a more normal life, a bard would make use of lots of the same skills.

Oh, if Vandra and Jeaux do make it into the campaign, I ask that the front-line fighters help keep things away from me as they are both extra crunchy with 5 and 2 hp respectively.

Eh screw it, I'll build a bard and rogue version of her, stat's don't really need to change for that.

5Hp and 2 Hp? Dude... A Cat eats em both for dinner! Damn! Haha

DarkestHeart wrote:

I have a -1 to Con mods, and even if I didn't, at +0 I'd only have 6 hp, and unfortunately Familiars always have half of the master's hp rounded down, otherwise Jeaux would have more than Vandra lol

So... That whole "Character Death" question...? Very real for you huh? Haha

Honestly, in the homebrew campaigns I'm in, my characters tend to get killed off because I'm the most flexible gamer at the table and different things tend to be needed. In an evil campaign I was in a while back, I went through a Catfolk Sorcerer with the Vampire bloodline, a Were-Crocodile Dwarf Blackblade Magus, a Half-Drow Bard/Master of Disguise, and a Catfolk Sniper-style Rogue. Character deaths are nothing new to me, though this is the first time I've ever made a character with such low hp.

I hope not, I like the concept of this character and I wanna see how far I can take him.

I hope if you make it in here, that somebody is a dedicated healer.

EDIT: Take out the you part, I hope there's a dedicated healer period.

I know what you mean, healers are always useful. Made a Priest (3pp class) with the Merciful Healer Cleric Archetype. Literally, pretty much the only thing he could do was heal and be the Knowledge character since Priests get the Knowledge domain for free.

Hmm, I like 3pp stuff. My favorite producer right now is Interjection games, I have multiple intriguing classes, one is a plague based buff/debuffer. And given plague you can imagine some of the other things it does. Also a construct maker, a brewmaster, which is the gentleman's barbarian, and an herbalist who gains all their power from nature's mounty.

I like some 3pp stuff. Dreamscarred Press is always a fav for me (love the half-giant race and Aegis class), and I've got some Kobold Press and Super Genius books that are good.

I liked Mongoose's Encyclopedia Arcane series. So many great options. My favorite was the cross breeding book, which if you don't know allowed you to do the kind of arcane experiments that might have spawned the Owlbear.

Sounds pretty sweet. Might look into getting that for an alchemist I think about making from time to time that is into genetics.

Well if Amanda gets in while she isn't a dedicated healer per say she can fill the role of healer, and could heal in battle if need be. Not really her specialty though.

Crunch-lite

Maria still has a ways to go. Equipment, her beginning feats and a trait, other than that I think I'm good, and yes, I'm aware it's a lot for a first level character. My brain just doesn't want to work.

EDIT: Could I save my +1 to save DC for Eager performer for when I have a class with a spell or apply it to a spell like ability by taking magical talent as a trait?

Also the GM said no evil alignments.

I forgot in my post, but I am okay with character death, it happens. I don't mind however you want to do the maps. If I am not selected I would be willing to join later, but I won't keep track of the game if I don't get in in all likelihood, so you would need to message me. Goals in Amanda's Immediate future mostly include mastering the brewing business. Also setting up her own brewery would be nice.

Did you take into account applying bonuses and negs from being a child? Also, thank you for bringing the evil to my attention, that's supposed to be on neutral.

Also, Treasurefox, would you consider lifting the campaign trait restriction if the character is good but doesn't fit with the current options, I feel that the only one that would really work is getting a bunch of poison but I was hoping to be a new arrival.

I made this little guy for a RotRL game a while back. Didn't get it. Mechanically, he's set, but I need to rewrite his original background since I deleted it in a reconstruction. Basically, a stealth and trap based kobold sorcerer who can double as team rogue thanks to his bloodline and stealth bonuses.

Wolfgang Rolf wrote:

I would like to apply for your recruitment thread with this character. In regards to your applications and expectation sections.

Character Death: It's something that happens, would I be happy with it? Not entirely but if it happens I'll simply have to accept it and make a new character. I'll be honest though I am hoping it won't, cause I really want to take my character to the very end of this adventure path.

Joining Later: If you haven't gone past the first book than yes.

Maps and Combat: I prefer Roll20, I can live with the other two.

Character's Life so Far: Karl's life has mostly been tragic for the most part; He started out as nothing but a selfish thug who only cared for himself but that later changed, he wanted more out of life, he wanted to be better, which is something of a recurring theme in his tale. No matter how high he soared, he'd always come crashing down, but his persistence has kept him going so far, and it is the only thing about him that doesn't seem to be running out...that and his sarcasm. Revenge is also something he's become quite familiar with; for a good part of his adult life he'd be pursuing his own vendetta, but shortly after he resolved he ended up saddled with seeking revenge for someone else. At this point in his life he isn't thinking about any clear goals, his one motivation that he won't even admit to himself is to shatter the lowly expectation that people around him assigned to him so early in life, to be better...whether that means to just not be the ruffian he used to be in his youth or become something more than just a sword for hire isn't something he's figured out quite yet.

Posting Expectation: I can easily post multiple times per day.

At first when I saw your back story I was like TL;DR, but then I started reading and before I knew it I was really enjoying myself. It was a really good read, I hope I get to play alongside the character.

Alright, I redid the math on Maria and ended up coming up at 21 points spent, so let me walk you through the character as is and see if it works now, because apparently I'm being stupid or I can't math today.

character starting stats are Str 8 Dex 12 Con 8 Int 10 Wis 8 Cha 12 (because I applied my 2 to charisma)My finished stats are str 10 dex 16 con 10 int 15 wis 9 (this is where I think I fixed it) cha 15. Does this seem right or do I need to sleep?

I always thought that you didn't apply any racial/age modifiers until after using point-buy?

I. g$&#+%mit, research time. This is the first time someone said yes to young character. So I need to check.

Okay, either way seems to work Deko, but the math is so much easier doing the point buy then adding the modifiers, so thanks, now I'm sure it's fixed.

It's good now (I didn't realize you were young at first). but just so you know it doesn't work if you apply modifiers first then do the point buy. Lets say you have a penalty to a stat and you want to put 5 points into it if you do point buy first it goes like this

10 +4(5points)-2 = 12

However if you do point buy second it goes like this:

10-2 = 8 +5(5points) = 13

Not the same numbers. Point buy always comes first.

*scratches head* Then why did it work out when I did it that way? F!@! it, I'm calling it a mystery of life and moving the heck on.

Why did you add +5 in the second equation?

Korak The Boisterous wrote:

Yes that's perfectly fine. Thanks for asking!

You had a question before about rogues and bards, yes? I can't seem to find it. What was your question?

I'm okay with that as long as you can come up with a good reason as to why your character is in Sandpoint (and ideally would like to stay there for a little while).

My question was to the people to find who had a Rogue, campaign trait works better for a bard and my character concept works equally well with a bard or Rogue. If nobody has a rogue I can run that, otherwise, bard works better with campaign trait.

So far you're the only rogue ^^

Staying is easy enough, I've purposely run from my previous life looking for a new place, seeing the merchant families, I'm thinking I stowed away in a caravan.

If you finally decide for rogue, I Guess you will choose the unchained, right?

Just to remind that the GM is allowing them.

Character death: No one wants to see their character die, but the enjoyment comes from being put in situations that are "threatening." If death happens I'm okay with it.
Joining later: I'm okay with joining later, as long as it isn't 3/4 of the way through kind of ordeal. Would like to see the new PC integrated in with wit rather than just "Oh hey I'm the new guy, let's go kill things."
Maps: Prefer Google or imagination, only because I have never used Roll20, and never attempted to access it from work.

Character Short Bio:
Alexander grew up admiring everything his father did. He loved the gleam that would come off his dad's armor after it was freshly shined, the intimidating look that came across his face when he was hidden behind his tower shield, and most importantly how safe Alexander felt with his father nearby. As far as Alexander was concerned, there was no one better in this world to have as a father. Alexander would often help his father with donning his armor prior to him heading to his guard post and wonder what adventures his dad would get into during the day.

Many children eventually grow out of this stage, or some of the admiration diminishes, but not for Alexander. At the age of thirteen, he began training to join the town militia himself. His father was recently promoted to captain of the guard, and Alexander dreamt of being one of the soldiers under his father's command. Training continued for many years, until eventually Alexander became part of the militia himself. It was an event that Alexander will never forget as his own father was the one to give him his sword and shield and welcome him. By this time, Alexander was approaching his nineteenth birthday. On the eve of this day, Alexander was assigned his first night at post; however, a night spent celebrating with friends would soon turn into one he wishes he could forget.

Alexander failed to arrive for duty as was expected of him. His father took it upon himself to stand in place. That was the night the giants came out of the forests. Everyone had heard tales of these creatures living nearby, but none had ever seen one. The town was unprepared and caught unaware. Many men died that night, but the only one that mattered to Alexander was his father. Eventually he would find his dad, crushed under the trunk of tree, barely clinging to life. The last words his father spoke to him were simply "I love you son." It was already heart-wrenching for Alexander dealing with his father's loss, and it only worsened when his mother arrived. She knew Alexander was supposed to be on watch. Alexander could never shake the feeling that he had disappointed his family. That night he packed his things and left town, hoping to find a traveling caravan he could work for as protection. All Alexander hopes is to one day return home, and hopefully restore some honor to his family.

Sorry, Azzerix should be LN. He kinda treads the line between LN and LE, but he's not so much evil as he is selfish and demanding. (And really, when you look as good as he does and have such fantastic power, what's not to find lovable?)

Also... I find it's a bit challenging to make a backstory for this little guy. I mean... he's just a kobold trying to find a new suitable home for his tribe, and thinks Sandpoint would make a good one. It's why he's there! The fact the locals don't like goblins is icing on the cake. I think this is just one of those characters whose fun comes from the personality, not the backstory... which makes it hard, because I'd like him to have a stronger reason for being in town.

This. Half the fun of playing a kobold is they could get squished at any time. Which is what makes it thrilling and incredibly satisfying when they succeed. Against all odds, you triumph... and isn't that what being the hero is about? (I mean, that and treasure?)

I looked at your stats, and oh boy I'd really recommend that con score, I realize you are going for the challenge of playing a squishy kobold, but you've got 6hp, you gunn die boay.

I was debating that one. It was between that or a 13 WIS. I'll take your advice and put it back into CON.
