Alandrian Verium |
"Aye, Gunderson. I assumed he was an older Smith. I apologize for the mistake. And I am glad you got everything under control. You do good work round the town. Everyone is happy with your works! Ali grinned.
"Well this is Master Tsakua, and that is Maria, Vandra, Vandras mother and Mary. I do not know who the hooded man is, nor the large Ulfen gentleman. And Azerie is back there, you see?"
Alandrian Verium |
"Oh, sorry Tsakua. I was just using it in the Master and Apprentice sort of way. I figure, what with me sharing your campsite for the next night, that I would watch you and learn what you do and how you do it. You must be good at what you do, the Butcher seems to think so, so does the Blacksmith. Well... One of the Blacksmiths. I'm sure present company would agree too, but I don't wanna start speaking for anyone else, that's how people get angry, or so I'm told!" He nodded, finishing his dinner before standing up.
"Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. I can see why Maria likes intestines now. They are meaty!" He bowed again before running off down to the nearest stream, to wash off the container and utensil.
Okay I think I am getting slowly more and more in to who Ali is. He is kind of gullible, polite and happy, despite everything that has gone on in his life. He looks for the good in everyone and just wants to learn whatever he can, from whoever he can!
Torvald Ragnir |
With some effort, the big man rises to his feet, his staff aiding his steps as he limps toward those gathered to eat. In one hand he clutches a skin that sloshes with his uneven steps.
"Hail t'e party," he grumbles roughly, raising the skin in a half-greeting and sizing up the group. The boy was clearly no leader, and the sot clearly had no presence of mind. The man tossed the skin to the green one. "Fine Ulfen mead there. Ye'll not see its like here, I figger."
He leans on his staff, weight off his left leg, and strokes his heavy beard. "Ye folk're seekin' a smith? Did I hear ye? I'm doin' th' same."
A moment passes before he offers once more in his rough voice, "Torvald," and taps himself once on the chest with a thick finger.
Azerienzal |
Azerie stepped away from the tree and shook his head. "Nay not looking for a Smith, Kent is a Smith. The only thing we are looking for now is companionship and conversation. Greetings Torvald, of the Land of the Linnorms." The tall, heavily muscled bear-esq creature saluted the man and turned once more, to continue his hushed conversation with the Wallaby.
Kent Atherton |
"Like the furry one said, not lookin' for a smith, friend. I run a smithy not far from here, but I've closed for the night." Kent tilts his head back and guzzles down the last of his drink. "Think I might have to call it here on the drink, for tonight anyway. What're you needin' a smith for, anyhow? Need some repairs done? I'd be happy to help you in the mornin', but for now I'm afraid I'm half as likely to smash my hand as to work any iron."
"He's a companion to young Alan here. Name's... Azurrenzal? Somethin' like that."
Torvald Ragnir |
Torvald shakes his head, beard rustling slightly at the motion, and studies the sot once more. "Nay repairs - jes' truths I be seekin'. So yer a smith, ye say - have ye peered inta t'e flames? Ha'e ye seen what lies w'in 'em? Or do ye jes' beat yer metal until yer sweatin' an' yer arms're weary?"
His eyes are intense, his demeanor grave, and he has clearly brushed all unnecessary information for a moment.
Kent Atherton |
"Can't say I have the truth's your lookin' for, friend. Those flames don't hold nothin' for me but heat. My Pa used to say I was the brightest of me and my brothers, but I don't know much in that way of things." Kent looks the Ulfen man in the eyes, and even in his drunkenness can see there are questions haunting him. He drops his mug to the ground, sizing up the newcomer. "It's just not in my nature, I s'pose. I shape the steel, but that's all I do. Name's Kent, by the way." With that, Kent extends a hand towards the Ulfen man, a large, rural smile on his face.
Korak The Boisterous |
After her meal she starts juggling the silverware and plate out of boredom. I know what you mean Alandrian, I hadn't figured exactly how big a part of her entertaining would be. So far I'm alrready working her feat progression just from this little bit of roleplay, throw anything, catch off guard, improved weapon mastery, precise shot,
Azerienzal |
Azeri took the mead with a nod of thanks, before looking at Tsakua. He gestures, with his eyes, at the Ulfen man, tapping his chest slightly, before gesturing to the Blacksmith and pointing discreetly towards Tsakua, the implication holding that, if a fight broke out, they would pull the ones he had indicated apart. Azeri smiled and took a drink of Mead. "Thank you for looking after Ali for me!"
It is turning out to be a useful experiment alright. And it sure is passing the time!
Torvald Ragnir |
Torvald nods again, subdued, but grasps Kent's arm just above the wrist in an Ulfen handshake. "T'e fires o' t'e forge hold mysteries... nay, nay, steel holds t'e mysteries. But ye canna find t'e steel wit'out t'e flames burnin'. Mayhap ye'll feel th' flames one day an' learn. I do no' know if ye should pray fer it'r ward yerself from it." He shrugs his great shoulders and changes the topic.
"Ye've outlanders an' outlanders t' spare." A glance from the talking... or thinking, at least, animals to the green man. "An' ye, I expect yer a livin' hill spirit or leastwise some o' tha' kin?"
Korak The Boisterous |
Maria stops her juggling and puts her stuff down before gruffly spitting out an apology for the knife incident. I really hope Treasurefox likes my throwing trap toys idea and will allow it. I've also found some interesting magic items that will go with the concept. Marionette Crux anyone?
Alandrian Verium |
Ali grinned when Maria apologized and took his seat again, taking out his crossbow and beginning the process of checking it over, once again, tightening some bolts here and there and inspecting the trigger. 'Everyone is getting along, that is good. Today is a good day!' He thought, sending a contented feeling with it, towards Azerie.
I think the trap toys sound cool. And that Magic Item is freaking sweet!
Korak The Boisterous |
I'm going to need to pick up toy making as a profession just to keep my puppets in good repair. Not to mention however else I end up using toys. Gonna need some marbles and jacks.
Tsakua |
"Nothin' such. Tsakua Chain-Breaker, or Tsakua, to friends. Welcome to our camp." Tsakua hefts a final log onto the dying embers, then says, "If you've nowhere else to stay, our fire is yours."
everyone has such great characters. love the interaction between them and how well they play off of each other. if i don't make it, i'll definitely follow the campaign with interest.
DM TreasureFox |
Well... Today I found over 100 new messages in this recruitment thread. Awesome.
Unfortunately, while I do absolutely love the roleplay going on, I have to ask that we seriously reduce the amount. The reason behind this is because it's hard for me to sort through to find applications and questions. What's more is I'd rather not have new applicants scared off because they think everyone is practically chosen already. In the end I can only choose 5 people at maximum, and despite who I may or may not like so far, I want to give everyone a fair chance.
About wordcasting: I have decided that players can apply with characters who use wordcasting. They will be treated fairly and without prejudice.
About traps and contraptions: I will allow this only if it can be found in non-3pp material that is easy to access. I understand your love for traps, having created a kobold rogue named Koro who was also a trapmaker. Total coward though.
Vandra Geaux |
Vandra Geaux wrote:** spoiler omitted **I'd like you to use the Celestial template, please. I think it would be neat roleplaying a celestial blessing upon Mrs. Mother-In-Wallaby.
Like I said, no problem at all, just thought I'd ask. If I do get in the campaign, I'd like to figure out some way to roleplay the blessing.
And I do apologize for starting the impromptu roleplaying, was just trying to get a little feel for the character and it kinda spiraled out of control.
Bruden |
Hey, this is Oterisk. Bruden's Alias is done, and should have all the relevant data.
I usually post every day, and sometimes several times a day. I will have a vacation coming up on the 26th, and I'll be gone for about ten days. I don't know if I'll be able to post or not. If you want to dump me in after I get back I'd be fine with that.
Thanks for your consideration.
DarkestHeart |
I saw that! *High fives* Awesome. Maria is turning in to a pretty damn cool little character. Haha Also being kids is turning out to be pretty funny.
Tsakua is a great character. I hope both of you all get picked, even if I don't. Ill watch and root for you all and if there is drop outs, hopefully get their spot.
Korak The Boisterous |
Just remember, the personality in there was me being crazy and isn't her real personality. She will definitely play up looking innocent, but what you saw there was more akin to Harley Quinn than Maria. She was raised in a gang, she is actually a decently serious character though I will occasionally throw in fits of immaturity.
Azzerix Wyrmclaw |
To my potential kobold minion, might I suggest the Snare Setter rogue archetype? Ranger traps are pretty easy to understand and you start with them at level one! Granted, you lose Sneak Attack for a couple levels, but you gain it later and can apply them to sneak attacks! And you can learn quite a few as you level up.
DM TreasureFox |
Halflings and GentleOrcs, I am beginning to work through the applications! BUT DO NOT FRET!! There is still plenty of time to submit / make changes to your characters. Recruitment will close tomorrow night and I'm fairly lenient with late applications.
I would just like to say thank you to all who have submitted a character so far. Although I do not read adventure paths that I don't plan on running, Rise of the Runelords is by far my favorite. The characters that you have submitted are full of life and creativity, and I am very excited to work with you in creating a fun and exciting story together.
So I wish you all the very best luck, and for those who haven't applied yet Get On It!! :)
DM TreasureFox |
Here is a list of everyone I have seen submit a character for this game. If you don't see your character, please contact me ASAP. For those who have created multiple characters, I have put your second character directly under your first character. Hopefully that made sense.

Sorry for being late to the party. Been, and still am, traveling for work. Got most of the crunch and fluff taken care of and will finish the remaining when I have time.

Character Death: I'm comfortable with it. I've killed characters off as a DM before, so I know how it goes.
Waiting on standby: Yes, I would be interested in joining later.
Combat: I usually use description/mind theater in my games, but think google docs and roll20 can be really helpful in tricky tactical situations.
Posting: Assuming I don't have to make another last minute flight across the country, I should be able to post in the morning and/or evening without problem. With shorter combat posts, twice a day should be doable. For RP, more likely 1 depending on how much thinking/typing is required.
Tians are a fairly small minority in Varisia, though considerably more common there than elsewhere. Like most such groups, they tend to stick together and form small enclaves. The Kaijitsus were a prominent family in Magnimar, and thus a de facto leader in the Tian community, before helping found the town of Sandpoint. With the success of the Sandpoint Glassworks, several Tian families followed the wealthy family to the growing community. And where the people of Tian Xia go, the Kitsune travel among them.
Growing up in Sandpoint with only occasional contact with Kitsune outside his immediate family, Hiro passes easily as a human, and generally thinks of himself as one. True, he and his family can transform into a anthropomorphic fox creatures, but everyone has their little quirks. As a result of living primarily as a human, Hiro's magical abilities have shifted a little. Instead of the single human form most can adopt, his talents allow him to take the form of anyone.
He uses this talent to indulge the fox's need for mischief. Several of Sandpoint's more hen-pecked husbands have stumbled home to a scowling wife who only hours before sent them off to the tavern with an exasperated but indulgent smile. Or so they say.
Most of the time though, Hiro confines himself to the local theater and taverns. Where he has established himself as a promising yarn-spinner with a particular knack for imitations. Sometimes you'd swear it really was Mayor Deverin herself up on the stage. Ameiko, owner of the Rusty Dragon, is Hiro's idol. From a noble family, with her own successful business, and a mysterious past as an adventurer, she is the perfect target of youthful infatuation.
None of this has endeared Hiro to the patriarch of the Kaijitsu family, the Tsukino family's employer, who has started to make less subtle suggestions that their son might want to seek his fortunes elsewhere. Perhaps another industry, in another city. On another continent. He would be pleased to write a very fine letter recommending Hiro as a journeyman glassblower.
And so the Swallowtail festival finds Hiro with a number of choices to make...

Well, at least we had fun doing that impromptu roleplaying, and I know I liked it. I hope we all have a good chance of getting into this campaign. Anyway, I think I should mention I live in California, so I am in the Pacific Standard Zone, so I do not know if it helps, but I hope it does.
Thanks for mentioning, but I don't mind having players in different time zones. I'm known to post in the dead of night just as much as posting in the afternoon.
