Probably a good idea, if I get in, I think we'll have our quota for squishy

Why did you add +5 in the second equation?

from 8 to 9 1 point, from 9 to 10 one point, from 10 to 11 one point, from 11 to 12 one point, from 12 to 13 1 point. Five points.

Wow, 6 hp? My wizard and familiar wish they had that kind of health.

I think I will reiterate: You gunn die boay

Yeah but you only added 4 and took away 2 in the first equation so why would you take away two then add 5 instead of 4 in the second equation? Just to make the numbers not match? Explain your process is what I mean.

Updated profile with background skills, traits and familiar stats.

"This Swallowtail Festival sure is gonna be a good one, huh Azeri?" A young boy sits idly atop a crate, watching the town set up for the Festival to come.

Here is the Profile for Ali. And...

Here is the profile for Azeri

The large Bear like creature that stood nearby, stacking boxes and helping out with the preparations, turned and regarded the boy. He frowned, resting one hand on his hip and gesturing towards him. "Aye lad, it will be. But shouldn't you be working? We need to get all of this done before the Festival starts!" He shook his head and turned back to his work.

'The Cub... Always getting distracted!'

I think they are both complete. If I am missing something, I can't see it.

Any idea when this is supposed to start?

well, not until at least the 11th as iirc that's the end of recruitment

Hi, I'm John and am submitting Cleo as a potential. I've never done a play by post with anyone I didn't know so this would be a new experience. I've been playing for a long time though, also am familiar with rise of the runelords up to the start of the second chapter. Lastly I'm a horrible speller, so please forgive me utterly failed attempts at times.

Application other then stats (which are included in profile)
Death is part of roleplaying and is always a potential. So don't mind. Also I'd be fine with starting later.

Gotta say, love Cleo. I have never seen an RP character with that much damn family.

I figured halflings have a lot in common with bunnies at times.

I've enjoyed reading all of you all's stories, so even if I didn't get in this was a worthy endeavor.

Okay it's how point buy works, it depends strongly on where you start.

10 to 11 one point, 11 to 12 one point, 12 to 13 one point, 13 to 14 two points. 10 to 14 five points. Minus 2 = 12. Racial modifiers are not part of point buy they just give a flat bonus penalty to the stat after the point buy.

-edit- if that isn't clear tell me and I'll explain the whole thing top to bottom.

Incidentally if anybody wants to know my f'ed up stat generation method, I now know what I did.

@Hogey No. I know how the point buy system works, I just implied things in my head that made the negatives work out in my head. I see what you did.

@Korak Sure, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Yes, where did it go wrong?

it's not a matter of where it went wrong, it's a matter of how my f'ed up one works when (kinda) starting with the negs and bonuses. I apply them first, but knowing where I want to go and being somewhat intelligent, I start at ten and count up to -2 or +2 of where I want to be, bam, overly complicated but working stat generation.

Treasure fox, almost done, and will link when I am, but the rules for young characters suggest only 1 trait because they don't have as much background, what's your preference?

Liberty's Edge

I see a lot of good submissions. I will better withdraw while I am ahead. Good luck and have fun!

Good luck on your vigilante game Corsario.

Just need your ruling on traits but other than that here's the crunch.

DM TreasureFox wrote:
And Korak, I think it'd be best to wave aside the stat changes and class restrictions. Just use your best judgement as to what would be suitable.

I'd say you are safe to take the two traits from what is implied there Korak.

hmm, good point

Edit: Okay final version should be up in a few minutes once I figure out why it's being weird.

maria is 12 and arrived in Sandpoint a few days ago, thanks to the Swallowtail festival her attempts to reinvent herself as an entertainer are going well. The locals have somewhat accepted her, she snuck her way from caravan to caravan sneaking out for food and such at night before arriving here. As she ran from her past and considered what to do she bought accoutrements appropriate to being an entertainer and depending upon flow of game will multiclass into bard or VMC into bard. Okay, link above is finished version.

Go with 2 traits. Preferably 1 of them being a campaign trait if possible.

Excellent work guys! I'm really liking how this is going.

To answer when we start the game, I'm aiming for Sunday the 12th. That's tentative though. Worst case scenario, we start on Monday the 13th.

Oh by the way, for the 13 year old summoner, adult is 15, not 14, and without knowing the time range of the adventure path you may not reach adulthood if you wanted to.

Ah, so you put the age adjustments in too early and forgot about them when adjusting Maria to be the Maria you want. Makes sense, and probably a very very common mistake.

Not that it means anything but for some reason your character sheet generator thing there lists precocious youth twice in feats & special abilities.

My alias has been created for my character. Both crunch and biography are in there as well.

Alexander is quite the wall. Cleo will happily stand behind him as the rain of dung descends on the poor town of Sandpoint.

That was my intent behind Alexander. Big immovable object. As we level, his offensive prowess will fall off a little bit, but surprisingly, it isn't too terribly bad at the moment.

Just so you know that it's a fallacy that all you need is defense to be a tank. Enemies need to feel that you are threatening in order to care enough to deal with you first. If not they just go past you and aim for the squishies.

As I said though, I got enough offense right now to get them to focus on me. I didn't say he wouldn't be offensive at all, just he's not going to be the guy to walk in and slay the enemies without his allies there.

Sometimes looks would be enough to draw attention. He would probably look much more threatening than the average squishy. Definitely looks more threatening than a less than 3 foot halfling girl.

Precocious youth is a feat that can be taken multiple times, it removes negs from being a young character and once they age into adult can be swapped for either iron will great fortitude or lightning reflexes. And I didn't forget to take the age adjustments into account, I just f$*+ed up somewhere while doing it.

Huh. I thought it was 14. Okay I will change that. Thanks man.

Just looking out. My character choices are not others character choices, besides, does it matter? I did it for a bit of challenge and I like to stay within established rules were possible, weren't you just being flavorful?

Yeah the young age for me it totally just for fluff. He is meant to be a kid with a big demon teddy bear.

Helgarr will definitely be trying to prove herself on the front lines - hopefully she will look threatening enough ;)

Or harmless enough, if Alexander is around - at least until the last moment.

I look forward to seeming harmless as well. Mostly cause I hope to make somebody s!$* themselves in fear when I use intimidate to pull off creepy kid when I threaten to eat their intestines in place of my morning sausage.

Helgarr is a very strong woman, I'd be threatened just being near her. Heck, her sword is probably three times Cleo's height.

And the thought of a creepy kid acting like her breakfast is intestines is awesome.

Vandra will seem harmless, mostly because he is atm, up until all the bad guys start fighting imaginary foes and all his allies start getting beefier than they normally are.

Really wish he could get the Animal Growth spell earlier than as a 5th level spell.

Yes, well, just remember, she's a damned good liar. and she's built around convincing people and stealing from them. She's not a cannibal, she's just good at convincing people of things. Or at least I hope she is, that's the problem with dice.

Character Death: I like the idea that it is a possibility. This keeps players actions in check and in character. I feel if there is a real possibility of death then we will have to consider our actions much more carefully.

Joining Later: I am interested in joining the initial group however I wouldn't be opposed to joining later.

Maps and Combat: I prefer Theater of the mind, but i can use whatever the group decides.

Character's Life so Far: Ral’Zek grew up on the streets, not fully fitting in anywhere. Orphaned at a young age after a terrible house fire (that as a child he accidentally set), he quickly realized that to survive he may have to do some rather unsavory things.
Eventually falling in with the wrong crowd, he became a “gun for hire”. Offering his services to any of the gangs that could afford his explosive power. Always making sure though to make it clear to his clients that he would never use his talents against non gang related people, thus sparing other children of the fate that he had unwittingly chosen.

This Drew the attention of various pirate groups and brought in some decent coin. His unwillingness to attack merchant vessels quickly became a sore spot in his new clients and his eagerness to blow away pirate ships rubbed of his crew mates the wrong way. Leaving, before his companions realized how much he looked down on them. Now, coming into his own as a man Ral is off to find the source of his powers. An explanation to his talents that have also served as his curse.

Posting Expectation: I can easily post multiple times per day.

Thank you for reminding me about the last part of the application, Ral'zek.

Posting Expectation: Can a few times a day.

I never put that on mine either...

Posting Expectation: Multiple times a day.

Same, multiple times a day.

Can't remember if I did or not, but I can post a few times during the workweek, mostly in the early a.m. and anytime after 5:30 CST. Weekends I can post pretty much all day unless I gotta go somewhere.

Grand Lodge

This is DekoTheBarbarian. Made an alias for Vandra that I'll use for this forum (and hopefully the game nudge nudge wink wink).

Hmm word casting eh? Is the GM okay with that? It's not considered part of the core rules.

Yeah posting expectations: well depend heavily on the day, but at least once per day. Most day's I'll be able to post multiple times.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hogeyhead, why are you auditing everybody else's characters? You pointed out my mistake yes, but you started to one guy about the fallacy of him needing defense to be a tank, You're now on this guy about whether or not he can use wordcasting, which is ONLY the job of the GM. You're offering unwarranted suggestions on the Kobold's character and talking about how he's going to die.

If nobody else has a problem with him I'm sorry for dragging you into this, it's just getting a bit annoying to me.
